Title: What happened to BRD Wallet ?
Post by: virasog on April 06, 2022, 01:21:21 PM
I logged into my brd wallet on my android phone and it says that BRD wallet has been migrated to coinbase wallet. I cant see my funds in the BRD wallet and the only option i have is to migrate to coin base wallet. Also i search the internet and found about this Coinbase Wallet Migration (https://brd.com/brd-joins-coinbase).

I want to know if the Bread Wallet have closed and is this coinbase wallet non-custodial and safe to use  ???
I have no option but to migrate to coinbase wallet but i want to transfer my funds to more secure desktop wallet.

Coinbase acquired BRD wallet[1] a few months ago. Their wallet is safe to use but if you're only dealing with BTC then I would recommend switching to Mycelium/Electrum.

Somebody already had this issue and was discussed widely in this topic (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5391541).

Shortly:
1. BRD being non-custodial wallet, you should have access to your keys to import them somewhere else (Electrum?); and of course, from there sending the funds to a completely new wallet is even better.
2. I'm not sure to which Coinbase wallet you're directed to, they may have one custodial and one non custodial. Coinbase is basically reputable, still, I would not touch their custodial wallet (actually I'd avoid both)

I only know about the non custodial coinbase wallet? Are you referring to their web wallet https://www.coinbase.com/ to be the custodial
wallet ?
BRD wallet disappointed me by making this move. I am never comfortable with coinbase and would recommend OP to move to electrum wallet.

I've posted link to the other topic for a good reason: I cannot really tell anything new from what was already said there.
For your specific question, I'll quote from there, since it has the links:

There are two different coinbase wallets. One of them is custodial (https://www.coinbase.com/) and the other one is non-custodial (https://www.coinbase.com/wallet).
