Title: [Open Source] Ancient Beast - turn based strategy game
Post by: DreadKnight on April 07, 2022, 10:00:51 AM
Ancient Beast (https://AncientBeast.com) is a match based eSport, played 1vs1 or 2vs2, where each player starts with a Dark Priest, able to materialize from a wide variety of units with unique stats & abilities as the match progresses, in order to defeat foes.
Materializing units costs a limited resource called Plasma, which is also used to shield the Dark Priests from enemy attacks.

Ancient Beast (https://AncientBeast.com) is free and open source, playable from the browser from pretty much any device, as it's designed to adjust and be accessible, as well as compatible with most input methods.
Even if the project will involve heavy use of NFTs in an upcoming mode, there will always be a vanilla mode that will allow people to duel freely.

While I've had an account for many years now and I've seen people talk about Ancient Beast around quite a few times, figuring out its potential for dueling for crypto (especially since it's not chance based at all!),
I'm just now posting about it around because a link to a thread around was asked of me when finally getting to list our project's utility token, XatteR (https://www.mintme.com/token/XatteR/intro/airdrop) ;-)

Some useful links:
  • AncientBeast.com (https://AncientBeast.com) - here you can play the prototype
  • GitHub (https://github.com/FreezingMoon/AncientBeast) - all project source code, feel free to star⭐
  • GitCoin (https://gitcoin.co/grants/916/ancient-beast) - we're raising some dev funds, contribute
  • OpenCollective (https://opencollective.com/ancientbeast) - sponsor project and get a banner
  • XatteR token Airdrop (https://mintme.com/token/XatteR/intro/airdrop) - get one of our tokens free
  • Official Discord (https://discord.gg/x78rKen) - become a part of the community

Older gameplay screenies (I don't have jr.member thingy yet to embed them directly *sigh*):

Hope you enjoy the project. Always looking for new investors (https://mintme.com/token/XatteR/intro/airdrop), sponsors (https://opencollective.com/ancientbeast) and new blood (https://discord.gg/x78rKen)/contributors (https://github.com/FreezingMoon/AncientBeast), it's open source after all! So hopefully you'll pitch in or get involved as you see fit ❤

Can you explain the gaming model for Ancient Beast ? Do we have to invest money in order to play the game ? As i understand this that we need to have Plasma which can be any tool to play this game and probably one have to buy this ?
I would only be interest to play this game, if i do not have to invest in the game. These days, many play to earn games are not giving the desired returns.

It's a browser based game. You play it first thing from the website.
There are also more direct links like
https://beta.ancientbeast.com and https://play.ancientbeast.com

Anyway, there's an open issue in our Github tracker so that at some point in the future we'll also have a downloadable version, similar to how Discord does things.
For now you can download the source code from Github repo and host it on your local machine (it's easy and there's a nice guide for it!), which is done often by developers contributing to the project (though nowadays many of us often use a more modern solution to get a fork set-up in the cloud with just 1 click without needing to download anything or do manual work, very convenient).

Atm, you can earn by taking part in the development process, from various 3rd party faucets, dividend program, by trading the token itself or helping with marketing and sharing stuff on social media.
This project is been in development for about 2 decades now, long before crypto and NFTs (it's easily verifiable with minimum amount of research btw).
It's not designed with greed in mind, like most projects popping up all around these days, quite the opposite, to empower smart people from all around, especially from poor countries (take a peek at what a way younger related project, Axie Infinity did for Philippine and how it influenced global economy). Quite a few BitcoinTalk users figured Ancient Beast's potential for dueling for crypto/NFT long time ago, especially since it's not luck based. One of the goals for this project is to easily allow good players to earn by playing well without investing anything (professional eSport players with sponsors).

There will always be a vanilla mode for the game that's pure (chess-like), meaning no tokens and NFTs at all, but the expansion will have way more going on, like some (MO)RPG elements so it will involve the token and NFTs in a great way, no such crap as "last person carrying a heavy bag", ever, I fully get that and resent it, sick and tired of pnd schemes and scammers (there are a dozen attempts on me each week and I got burned a lot of times investing in stocks or crypto/NFT related projects; do note that I put quite a bit of time in to get many scammers down 🔥, I'm not paid for it but I have very strong moral principles, so it's the moral thing to do). Most of the stuff will be cosmetic and the stuff that won't be cosmetic will be obtainable in multiple ways, even without spending anything at all.
Anyway, that sort of stuff is years ahead, not to worry about it now too much (though every little thing I do requires planning way ahead, but that's a big part of my job after all). This is not one of those NFT games coming out of the woodwork or appearing like mushrooms after a rain with a sole purpose of making quick profits. No pay-to-play or pay-to-win stuff (see next reply as well). Also keep in mind this is free open source and can be forked by community (it constantly is in order to try out patches).

There will always be a vanilla mode, no NFTs or tokens involved, but only match-based (chess-like). So game will always have the core pure and free.
Expansion will make use of tokens and NFTs, in a smart way, adding more gameplay elements (like city building, sieges, crafting, etc), so a great and feasible economy system is designed over the years. Plasma for example will have a cap and will be replenish-able, depending on your playstyle, if you need more, you could obtain some XatteR in various ways and stake that in your main structure (yes, there will be city building!) to generate more Plasma (if that makes sense for your playstyle). You don't have to buy XatteR, you can get it in a lot of ways, like airdrops, faucets, staking (XatteR or other crypto/tokens, we already have monthly dividend on MintMe!), contributing to the project or the ecosystem (fix issues that have bounties by coding, making drawings and 3d artwork or even create compatible assets/NFTs or merchandise to sell yourself), playing well (defeating and looting other players or even getting a sponsor) and so on. It's something that wasn't done before at this scale afaik, so when done right, it should influence a lot of other projects as well and set the bar to new heights (in a good and innovative way); there's a lot more going on with the design but this is not the place and time to reveal everything just yet, so only a glimpse :) we got a Discord server, I'm around it daily and anyone can poke me.

To be honest I HATE most games out there with a passion, one way or another, even most of the ones I constantly play. I fully want to avoid pay-to-play and pay-to-win type of crapware and build something solid, non-shady and non-vapourware that can properly scale globally. I'm playing the long term game when it comes to this project and everything is carefully thought out, tested and balanced. The more support I get and people involved into this, the better, as there are more resources and feedback to make something more polished by more points of view with a clear goal and vision in mind though from the start, because more chefs don't make the soup better, so nobody is steering this in weird directions by having power over it as I don't work under a corporation umbrella or under some weird boss, plus community can fork it to try out different things and flavors, which is all good. So idea is to make something great, scalable and sustainable that will improve situation for a lot of poor people and will also live on long before I die.

Seems threads around here can get buried super fast, my bump attempt:
I've managed to list XatteR on Nomics https://nomics.com/assets/xatter 🥳
Will be aiming for most listings soon, already submitted to coinPaprika 🪙🌶
If anyone knows nice reachable crypto listing websites, feel free to suggest!

Making constant progress, though kinda slow at times. Hopefully will manage to get some funding or fix the bottlenecks, I'm working some angles on both fronts.
October will be busy month working on the project, since it's the time of Hacktoberfest, meaning a lot of contributors to open source projects. Thanks for your interest.

Have you looked at the Stellar platform?

Trivially cheap and easy to create tokens, I use it myself: https://MakeMoney.Knotwork.com/stellar/

I've heard about Stellar as it's somewhat popular, anyway, already have a token and I find blockchains that don't work with MetaMask easy to neglect overall.
