Title: My curious case on GPUs with no Vram temp Post by: Outhue on April 10, 2022, 12:13:03 PM Just out of my curiosity, every GPU has VRAM right? What do you think will happen if we can all trace our GPU VRAM temp today? I'm not talking about 3070ti and 3080s I'm talking about those gpus that only display norm temp not the Vram temp, you that your gpu is displaying 68-70°C on norm temp I wonder what the Vram temp would be... Just because we cant see doesn't mean its not hurting, I could be wrong thats why I create this topic, let's have some conversations.

In the past we didn't have vram temps because we didn't need :D , now it's more common specially after mining Usually the GPUs have: AMD - 3 sensors Nvidia - can come with 1 sensor, 2 or 3, depends on the model Special edition GPUs or high end GPUs can have more sensors, like this EVGA: https://i.ibb.co/X29mfBn/sensors.png (https://ibb.co/6n26chK) But this is not the standard, to put more sensors manufacturers need to charge more for the card This concept of "norm" like you said, is not the right thing to say, we can say it depends where the sensor is, so it's common to have on the gpu and memory (vram) Title: Re: My curious case on GPUs with no Vram temp Post by: Metroid on April 10, 2022, 08:25:12 PM In the past we didn't have vram temps because we didn't need :D , This. Nvidia got very aggressive with gddr6x, amd has been implementing memory sensors for a long time in their gpus, even polaris aka rx 480 has. A better definition would be, nvidia and amd giving devs code to check their memory temp sensors, nvidia is lagging behind amd in this regard. Teamredminer can check the memory temperature of your amd gpu. Mem Temp reading is not needed for GDDR6 models, so this GPU´s don´t need a sensor for the VRAM. Almost all GDDR6x video cards need thermalpads change, the original are too bad, this is why i stop buying Nvidia cards. I'd say all, more than 90c is not acceptable for 24/7. Title: Re: My curious case on GPUs with no Vram temp Post by: legcramp on April 11, 2022, 05:55:21 PM Hope this helps, some of my RTX 3060 Ti has memory temperature readouts. About 82-86c for the sample of three cards that had the readout with fans running at 75% and core temp 55-56c.
https://i.ibb.co/BszwhFZ/3060-TIFHR.png Also, please note, the system above is sitting on the top-rack above this system below.. so the temperatures will be higher. The system below has RTX 3080s (memory temp in the 80-90s) and a few 3060 Tis (Core temp: 44c, memory temp 78c) https://i.ibb.co/9vQX1vc/3080-3060-Ti.png (https://ibb.co/sP8SNPb) So I guess to answer OP's question, if your core temp is 68-70c, you can assume your memory temp is way too high for a RTX 3060Ti/3070 card with regular GDDR6. Just tell me what AMD card use GDDR6x and the memory working at 106ºC-110ºC that make the GPU throttle, name me just 1. 1. NVIDIA The better driver supports. Less heat generation. Worse cooling pads. 2. AMD Worst driver supports . High heat generation. Better components for cooling. You can't expect everything to be perfect out of the box. |
