What do y'all think?

I don't know what other peoples think.

Will BTC price movement continue to have the same effect on its price in 10 years? 20 years maybe?

The BTC price movement will continue to affect altcoins' price if its dominance doesn't fall under 20%. I am not sure how long bitcoin dominance will be over 20%. But, I am sure that ten years can decrease a maximum of 10%.

Let's hear some expert opinions.

I am not an expert, BTW.

Effects in which regard? Bitcoin has been taking lead over all other crypto but I don't think it will by any means determine their fate in succeeding as a currency as well, but base on the present situation of what we can see, bitcoin prize is not the determinant to altcoins price but it influence can alter little changes in their speculations

I personally believe that BTC will still influence altcoin price in that timeframe, but to what degree will depend on bitcoin's dominance on the market. Since I currently don't see altcoins that can even remotely endanger that I think that bitcoin will set up the pace for years to come.

Little changes? If bitcoin suddenly drop by 50%, rest assured that huge majority of altcoins would go down by 90-99% and would seal their fate as many of them don't have any utility at all. We've seen it back in 2018 and it would be the same thing all over again.

Well Bitcoin is a big gun in the crypto space; it take a while for someone like me to start realizing that there other coins or tokens here apart from Bitcoin... And I want to believe there is always anl impact Bitcoin has generally on the market whenever it rises/fall.. So Bitcoin can be a major determinant here!

Effects in which regard?

Effect in the sense that:
1.  When the price of BTC went to the 60k region, Solana moved to $240+ then when BTC regress back to the 30k region, Solana dropped massively to $80+

2. When the price of BTC went to the 60k region, ETH moved to $4k+ then when BTC regress back to the 30k region, ETH dropped massively to $2k+

3. When the price of BTC went to the 60k region, Algo moved to $2+ then when BTC regress back to the 30k region, Algo dropped massively to $0.8

These are few of the effect BTC has on alts. Hope you now understand what i mean by 'effect'

As long as Bitcoin dominate the crytpto space it will indeed have a strong effect no altcoins. Maybe if ETH takes over BTC things might change but then it will be ETH that is going to affect altcoin prices. The most dominant crypto will always have that kind of effect on alts in the end. Whether it is BTC, ETH or DOGE it doesn't matter. There will always be a lich king.

Yes definitely.

Altcoins are basically alternative coins used instead of Bitcoins. Many new altcoins with the various algorithms, and consensus with additional features such as lower fees, high-speed transaction confirmations, etc.

All altcoins are initially evaluated in Bitcoin. Which then can be evaluated in other coins according to Bitcoins price in fiat globally on CEX and DEX.

As Bitcoin is the prime currency and the higher price of Bitcoin limits small equity users from accessing it. Altcoins are the better solution for small-scale users to invest in to receive higher ROI.

It's going to stay the same until(and if) the market matures sometime in the future. Though stablecoins like USDT definitely have sucked a good amount of liquidity from the BTC trading pairs, BTC is still mostly at the top when it comes to trading volume(with Tether reigning).

In my opinion in the next 20 years bitcoin will still be the main thing for other altcoin price movements.
Even though you are not sure I still believe that the movement of bitcoin will continue to have a big impact on other altcoins because bitcoin is like a tiger among other altcoins.

It will only happen if Bitcoin's dominance is falling deeper than ever. Because they are the world's most popular and top-used cryptocurrency in terms of market capitalization, most of the altcoins (with the exception of stablecoins) are being influenced by Bitcoin's price movement since the beginning. Not even ETH can take over BTC because it focuses more on the Dapps rather than being an alternative payment system alone due to the exorbitant gas fees.

Yes, Bitcoin will be the major driving force in the cryptocurrency market in the next 20years and more. The reason is not that it is the first crypto we have in the market and the reason is that Bitcoin is the true decentralized and no censorship coin. Thats the major reason why a lot of crypto enthusiasts have more confidence in it than all crypto we have in the market.

Title: Re: Will Bitcoin continue to have the same effect on alts?

Most likely yes, because alts are just knock-off Bitcoin that use marketing to divert investors from Bitcoin to them. For all their existence, alts have struggled to be independent, meaning they failed to actually deliver something useful - and I don't see how it's going to change, I only see how alts just get better marketing, because the people behind them got crazy rich, so now they can do multi-million PR stunts.

So, when you see a new altcoin and it advertises its unique and ground-breaking features, ask a simple question - do ordinary people on the streets want those features? Or is it only interesting to a bunch of crypto bros who want to get rich quick?

Bitcoin and altcoins aren't in the same market yet most of their price follows Bitcoin price movement. Have you ever wonder about why is that happening despite of the price and market difference? If you can't answer your own question then we can't answer your question too if you want a different answers. :P

So the answer would be we don't know and why's that? It's because most traders tend to switch to altcoins if the Bitcoin market would make a move but it's not applicable to all altcoins since there are some that are worthy that's why most of them follows the Bitcoin price.

In 10 years probably at least 80% of the alt coins we have now will be long gone. I wanted to say 90% but I din't want to exaggerate. Also in 10 years bitcoin's volatility should be way less than today, so I still think that the whole market will be influenced by bitcoin movements, but I don't think we'll see -40% movements.

Even if you said 99% I don't think you would exaggerate. The vast majority of altcoins have no use at all and are either scams or childish money making schemes. I think even some Bitcoin forks are more useful than the 99% of alt coins out there.

I think the correlation of bitcoin price movement with the altcoin market will continue. It has already become like the backbone of the crypto market. Bitcoin has a primary influence on altcoins, and also serves as a kind of hedge for crypto investors. For example, when bitcoin goes down, altcoins go down in value, when the price of bitcoin corrects, many investors pour their liquidity into altcoins. When bitcoin has a major price crash, it pulls the altcoin market with it.

This direct interaction mechanism will continue. It is also worth considering that on cryptocurrency exchanges, altcoins are traded in tandem with bitcoin. This also imposes a certain imprint on the correlation of bitcoin market with altcoins.

Altcoins have less real use cases than bitcoin so probably, bitcoin will always take the lead and keep dominating the market. And as long as bitcoin dominates and makes the most expensive price, altcoins will always be influenced with bitcoin. However, the market is still very uncertain in the next 10 or 20 years, if an altcoin surpasses the status of bitcoin, then that altcoin will create an effect to bitcoin.

Without any doubts. Bitcoin gives all directions on this market. It's called the king of crypto universe for a good reason: for being the original cryptocurrency among all, which gave origin to the whole crypto market we see right now, with more than 2.01$ trillion dollars marketcap.

If it wasn't for bitcoin, this market probably wouldn't even exist or on the best hypothesis, marketcap would be much inferior, indicating without bitcoin, crypto market becomes unreliable for investors.

I still think that there will be a significant impact from bitcoin for the alts after so many years. The price of most alts that has grown up together with bitcoin will also be in line with it.
What are you thinking right now? Are you going to invest to those altcoins that has the potential to grow together with bitcoin? If that's what's on your mind, still do not forget to have bitcoin.

I think that it will have an impact on the market as a whole and through it on altcoins. The more altcoins there are and the more mature the market becomes, the less of an impact it will be, but you can expect alts to react negatively to any problems bitcoin might face. One reason for that is regulations and laws are made mainly for bitcoin. Politicians by saying bitcoin mean the whole crypto market. If Bitcoin is banned somewhere, don't expect alts to become legal.

seriously these topics need to be richer in terms of content. but to answer your question:

yes, even if 10 or 20 years pass, altcoins will continue to be dependent on bitcoin, and whenever the price of bitcoin increases a lot, then the price of altcoins in relation to bitcoin will fall a lot and will only recover when the price of bitcoin becomes stagnant

this scenario will not change even if years pass, even if it is 10 or 20 years

BTC could be at $1 million in two decades so it could remain as the main price driver of altcoins. Let's keep in mind that we're witnessing a shift in the global financial structure with BTC more and more involved. It's not hard to think that more companies will convert some of their assets to BTC to fight fiat inflation brought by pandemics and coflicts among countries.

Bitcoin is the king of other alcoins, the movement of bitcoin is very influential with alcoins until 10 years or 20 years later it will be like that unless there is a project that can be developed and and investors are interested in the project, the price of the coin has no effect on the movement of bitcoin.

Just a little drop from bitcoin and there is huge drop in altcoins, bitcoin is currently at $40k+ from almost $45k last week, the effect will always continue on altcoins

Not to be called an expert but I think Bitcoin will still be the main thing in crypto space unless the so-called flippening wherein Ethereum was already at the top or its market cap exceeded Bitcoin or another altcoin made it. For now, let's presume that even for a decade or two, these altcoins will still follow the trajectory of Bitcoin.

Do you mean the effect of price?. The future is still unpredictable but bitcoin is still at the top of the market so bitcoin will still have an impact on the value of altcoins. It all depends on the movement of bitcoin, in the red market sometimes there are a few green altcoins but very few. It is just a short term pump, in the long term it all depends on the volatility of bitcoin.

We are not experts, let alone me personally. However, dealing with the Bitcoin growth phenomenon cannot be taken lightly. The reason is quite simple and we can see it with the naked eye without needing to identify it in depth. Look at adoption, look at government attention to Bitcoin and also note that every country is now very interested in Bitcoin and making it an alternative payment. Where to put such trust is very difficult, but Bitcoin can do it even before it reaches its first 20 years. The huge contribution, interest, and resilience of the value that continues to show price increases every year has given us a place to accommodate how Bitcoin has a good share in the future compared to paper money.

Bitcoin has an important role in the crypto market and is also a reference for the market. that's why altcoin prices often follow Bitcoin prices. So I think as long as Bitcoin holds full crypto dominance then it will have an effect on altcoins. although not all altcoins are like that most of them follow the Bitcoin market where when the price goes up or down it will always follow. if it is said whether altcoins can hold on to themselves without being affected by Bitcoin or not then the answer will be difficult because basically, Bitcoin is a priority and dominance for crypto so that its movement becomes dominant and has an effect on other cryptos.

Over the past years, so many projects have been developed and most of those are quite good enough but is there a change the way those coins move or the whole altcoin market moves? No, but they are still the same that depends on bitcoin. Price of other coins don't have an effect with bitcoin because they are smaller than in bitcoin.

We don't know what is going happen on the next 10 to 20 years but the only way to feel a change is when bitcoin dominance got lowered but I am not really sure if that's going to happen since we can see that most of the support are all in to bitcoin. Altcoins on the other hand are just a secondary pick.

Although not all, but the majority of Altcoins at this time follow the movement of BTC. Although not all there are some coins that can not be betahan and abandoned by the community so that the price is getting down even delisting from the exchange. There were some coins that went up so great during ATH in 2018 but after BTC went down they went back down and even until ATH This year they couldn't afford to go back to ATH before. So you certainly have to remain selective in owning altcoins. Because I have experienced two periods of halving and the cycle is almost the same as this.

Bitcoin is the end goal.

Most alts are just a side step to try to get more Bitcoin in the end, or fiat for some of their creators.

In the end, alts will come and go, but Bitcoin will still be there. That means that alts will move with Bitcoin.

I personally don’t think so. I think within that amount of time (ten- twenty years) many if not most of these alts that are around today will be dying by the wayside. I think in ten years time only the most legitimate alts will be around which in my opinion will be pretty different than bitcoin, meaning they won’t be competitors, at least for the most part, kind of like Ethereum.

if to compare the price between the movement of bitcoin and the Alt price this will have an effect. every bitcoin increase that occurs altcoins always follow it, although not all altcoins follow an uptrend, but if it is assumed that almost 90% of altcoins experience a much greater increase as before.

every bitcoin price increase, Alt will also uptrend. I don't know if there are so many open buys in Alt, so every increase in bitcoin alt goes up too. or altcoins that are forced by the market to follow an uptrend to keep up with bitcoin. if this happens, then every altcoin will depend on the price of BTC.

I am not an expert, but the comment about the influence between BTC and Alts from the past to the present is what we have seen. The future for this relationship to not affect each other is also very difficult. I don't have as many assumptions as many people, but considering what is going on, BTC dominates the crypto market, only if altcoins maintain stability. Given that the market is stable and nearly everyone understands this market, we can expect a healthy environment that is not too much affected by the volatility of the parties.

The movement of BTC will affect altcoins, and we have seen this all along.
But maybe every year, the movement will never be the same because there are several factors, such as adoption, which will also be different.
Like this year, after hitting a high price peak, btc fell again but fell slowly until it touched $38k, if I'm not mistaken.
It's better if we wait for what will happen in the next 10 or 20 years later.

For now btc price movement has a great influence on that of alts a lot, simply because the alts are mostly pegged to btc perhaps, but so far this is how it has been and may probably will be in years to come until there is some changes where alts can perform independently from btc (am not sure if it will be possible).
Right now even alts like eth, bnb with strong utility and great demand are also affected by btc price movement, it would have been that btc price performance does not affect these coins since there is a great demand for them, but this has not been the case.

The market of altcoins is well connected to the bitcoin, so there is nothing to think about the effects over altcoins. Whenever there is positive move in the market, the same happens with the altcoins. The price have been struggling to stay above $40k. This have made $40k to be resistance zone which needs to be crossed to reach the next major resistance zone of $43. Only then the bullish move will continue, if not once again altcoins gonna drop gradually.

Not an expert of course, but alts had been known to follow the price of Bitcoin at any time. From the looks of it, investor would invest in Bitcoin first before buying alts for obvious reasons that Bitcoin dominates the market.
It will be in that kind of scenario most of the time, unless something took over Bitcoin which unlikely will happen any day in terms of its price.

No one knows on what would happen in 10-20 years time in speaking with price correlation in between alts and bitcoin which is the main coin of this market. We cant really just
deny that Bitcoin is the trend setter that whenever its state is on bearish then all coins in the market would definitely follow which is something a very normal condition or situation
that we are seeing for years in the existence of this market which most likely we would be seeing the same situation on upcoming years or future years to come
but lets see if some alts withstood whatever Bitcoin movement would might be.

It depends. If bitcoin still dominates the market after 10 or 20 years, then its always expected that altcoins are still bound to follow bitcoin's path. Whatever the price of bitcoin, altcoins will be greatly influenced and benefit from it. If bitcoin price drops more, altcoins prices are expected to drop more deeply than bitcoin. However, no one holds the future of bitcoin and crypto space, maybe by that time a new powerful altcoin will be able to replace bitcoin's position. In that case, bitcoin will surely be affected by the leading altcoin.

changes and developments in cryptocurrency in the future no one knows for sure, everything will experience a shift according to its development. I think if bitcoin is in this position, the effect will remain the same, which is the parent for other altcoins, but if there is a coin that is more dominant than bitcoin later, the influence of bitcoin will certainly fade. but I think with the current level of trust in bitcoin, of course for the next 20 years or even the next 10 years bitcoin will still be the king of cryptocurrencies, considering 10 years is not a long time, and bitcoin is still predicted to always print its new ath with the increasing number of bitcoiners around the world

Bitcoin Being the king of the crypto universe has always influenced the price fluctuations of altcoins and is expected to do the same in the future. Altcoins are used way less than bitcoins and bitcoins have always dominated and are expected to dominate altcoins.

Why do you have to compare Bitcoin to all altcoins?Bitcoin should be compared to every altcoin in particular, not all altcoins simultaneously.
An altcoin will become "independent" from Bitcoin when it gets enough trust and authority and there are enough people, who are willing to HODL this altcoin in times of a bear market.
For instance, when the market does down,a hardcore Bitcoiner says to himself "I'm just gonna HODL my Bitcoins, the price will eventually hit another ATH".
But when the market goes down,an altcoin trader says to himself "Things are going bad,so I have to sell my altcoins ASAP,because their price might hit the absolute bottom"
That's why the altcoins don't carry the same weight as Bitcoin Core.

I'm not an expert here and besides, experts can't even tell. However, there are possibilities to see a huge change in the market 10-20 years from now and withstand the thing that altcoins make have their own way to survive without relying upon Bitcoin anymore.

As people have begun to learn more about crypto and developers continue to discover ways how to become independent most likely, we gonna see different market trends somewhat in the future. In fact, we have noticed it already at this time, some projects went the opposite direction to Bitcoin.

bitcoin ever scored its highest price in 2021 after 2019 saw its lowest price point. Judging from the price comparison between 3 years, Altcoins seem to always follow the price of bitcoin. I also don't know why every time the price of bitcoin goes up, altcoins always go up. and speaking of the next 10 to 20 years this will also happen to altcoins, the price increase is only different in percentage only.

I agree with this. We have seen bitcoin go up in cycles so far and we could see that again. I do not know if it will be the same period or not but I know that it will definitely happen again, maybe in 3 years, maybe in 2, maybe in 5 but I know that it will break ATH and go up.

I cannot talk about all altcoins, some of them will crash, or already crashed and they will not recover, we had that in 2017 as well many things that looked high, even top 20, ended up crashing and never recovering. Look at bch and bsv for example, they were both top 10 coins and nowhere to be found right now, many people lost money there. But I know that bitcoin will be safe and will go up.

bitcoin is an off chain exchange system.

It has been superceeded by on chain exchange systems. Bitcoin will always be the first but will never again be the best cryptographic economic system

ETH is almost sure to replace btc in total mcap because of this, and one day a different system will replace eth.

When people compare bitcoin and altcoins. They don't really realize what they want.
Bitcoin is the main asset in the crypto market and is an irreplaceable leader.
The altcois took on the task of creating new spaces to diversify our investments such as: NFT, GameFi, DeFi, exchanges and more services to satisfy the demand that the banks did not give us.
But in the end bitcoin will continue to lead the market because it is the most trusted asset because it is seen as digital gold.

I'd say it Becoming Possible but NOT ALL.
10-20 years from now, I'm expecting too many changes to happen in the market but can't just rid of the influence of Bitcoin on the crypto market and their connection still firm. Well, we can't just disclose by any chance and besides, some of the altcoins now are now hyping their own even though the price of Bitcoin is declining. We can see it on the CMC.

But anyway, I wasn't worried much if this going to happen, we'd been supposed to be glad as altcoins had stood their own.

Altcoins have existed since bitcoin came in, they have been a collective against a one man army of bitcoin. The reason why altcoins rose to a significant portion of the market share is a difference in public opinion and use cases. This is the example of democracy in the crypto sector, everyone is free to choose what they use.

Since majority of altcoins are bought and sold with bitcoin, it tends to influence the price. Trading them against fiat is still not that convenient, although attempts have been made to incorporate the same into merchants. So in my opinion, unless a new coin becomes something even more useful than what bitcoin has been, it will continue to have an effect on altcoin prices.

I remember the early days when I joined crypto and there was just bitcoin and something called "namecoin" if I am not wrong, there were few others too but they were nothing, the only one that mattered was namecoin, then ltc became a big thing, then eth did, and xrp did alright all throughout those periods as well. It is just a weird thing that people think altcoins are a new thing.

Sure, bitcoin had like 70%+ dominance at one point so if you think that you are going to get that again, you are not, even 50% is a hard thing nowadays, but at the very least we know that bitcoin is still the biggest and will stay like that for sure, while altcoins will just keep on changing places.

Speaking of dominance? No, you cant precisely tell that it would really be a solid indication because funds could be pull off into the market without tending to switch to altcoins which basically means that it could really

still able to stand  off whenever Bitcoin is on a decreasing state or plummeting but cant really deny that Bitcoin is the main trend setter and this one really creates that kind of action
where it is really that understandable and basing off with real experience and engagement then we most likely say that it would really be on that way.

The cryptocurrency market moves as a monolithic, and the crypto market moves in correlation with all the other markets. Bitcoin isn't intertwined with alts which would not allow for individual variance, but if Bitcoin tanks (or rises) so do the other major crypto's with reasonably high market caps. You can look at the stock market for evidence of this, there's the winners and losers, but the seismic changes generally occurs with events that transcend different markets - ie the war in Ukraine, you collectively saw a dip in all major markets and nearly all crypto currencies took a momentary dip in synchronization.

Bitcoin may not influence all alts but mostly its trend is followed by top alts. Definitely, those pump and dump coins, meme tokens or substandard projects won't follow bitcoin's market performance. But as we have seen up until now, most top alts such as ETH, LTC, XRP, SOL are following bitcoin's market behavior. Though we can't always rely on bitcoin because sometimes if there is new development with the project, they tend to have their own movement.

Generally, the price of altcoins sometimes depend on the price of BTC. Since most of these altcoins derive their existence from BTC as the latter is considered the first cryptocurrency, it follows that whenever its price drops, then the prices of altcoins drop.

Though this may be the case, there are certain cases where the price of some altcoins are generally unaffected while the price of BTC significantly changed. I remember that XRP and ETH's price continued to rise while the price of BTC dropped during the last quarter of 2019.

You're referring to pump and dumps? I don't know if I'd consider momentary crypto pumping schemes to be inclusive of the monolithic market. Maybe they are, I haven't been bothered to compare the price charts. Larger world events have an effect on all markets, including the crypto market. Bitcoin is inclusive in that crypto market, and as a result Bitcoin moving in price, most altcoins follow. I don't see any reason why this pattern would be disruptive considering this applies to literally every market there is.

Most altcoins do follow where bitcoin is going, it can't be separated from bitcoin as a reference for some people in buying altcoins. Evidently this has been the case for a long time and I think it will continue to do so. I think it's also not about market cap dominance etc. it's a move that comes naturally to what's going on with bitcoin, or should I say with everyone referring to bitcoin before they buy altcoins.

We don't know how long or will bitcoin price movement will always or will continue to have the same effect on altcoins because we would not know also if altcoins in future can stand alone without bitcoin influence. So far, for now we can say that bitcoin has a great effect on altcoins price and that is always shown to every price fluctuations of bitcoin, I am not sure if it is safe to say that most altcoins are dependable on the pumping and dumping of bitcoin price but that is what can be seen at the crypto market today.

I do not completely agree with what you said, although often related, it is not uncommon for bitcoin and altcoin prices to be inversely proportional in the market, as happened some time ago when the altcoin season occurred wasn't the bitcoin price going down at that time?
At that time I saw that when bitcoin was the crypto asset with the largest bearis, it turned out that altcoins could actually experience bulls in the market, and I think this was because many investors began to let go of bitcoin and switch to altcoins when bitcoin crashed due to negative sentiment which happend , so I don't think altcoins and bitcoin will always cohesive in the market.

The whole crypto market depends upon the bitcoin movement and this will continue like this. 90% of the altcoins move with the bitcoin movement while the rest 10% of the altcoins sometimes move independently because of very low liquidity.
If you are a trader or investment, just keep in mind that bitcoin movements determine the movement of altcoins.

I think if we can remember that BTC is the world most trusted cryptocurrency token, because it is decentralized, so it gives us control over our wealth. This reason has given BTC the trust it has in the world today, and it is the coin that have the control of the entire crypto market, so even more than 20 years to come BTC price will keep controlling the altcoin price.

I have to say that there is really nothing that could be breaking alts from bitcoin anytime soon. It was around the early 2018 period that saw the altcoin increases because bitcoin increased very late into 2017 and that meant if the increase happened afterwards that impacted alts during 2018. It will be very similar again, during the 2021 period we ended up with something good in bitcoin and afterwards, it ended up with alts following that and increasing. ETH even kept up a bit longer because of all the nft and play to earn stuff and so forth. That is why I believe that whenever bitcoin goes up a lot, that will cause alts to follow up later on as well for sure.

I think this is a good question, so far and for as far back as it can go, Bitcoin has virtually controlled Crypto-currency and that includes affecting the price of Bitcoin. Would this continue in the future? I would say No, infact this theory is currently affecting some coins and not others, recently I have seen some coins go up even when Bitcoin was dropping, Some coins aren’t based or influenced by the price of Bitcoin although many coins are still, but in the future I think we would see more and more coins going price independent to Bitcoin.

Altcoins do not last for longer time so more probably, 10 or 20 years from now, there will be new launched altcoins that will certainly replace those old ones. But i believe bitcoin will be staying for good. Its the most centralized coin ever and people stick to it because people find their freedom investing in a high promising coin without the interruption of any group or entity. Bitcoin is the king of crypto and as long as it keeps dominating the crypto market, it will always bring the same effect to altcoins.

If we pay attention to the bitcoin btc/... pairs on the exchange it stands to reason that the price of altcoins will also fall if the price of btc falls.
Many times we complain when we find ourselves in that situation, but when we make a profit when the price of bitcoin rises, we are more reserved.
When the price of bitcoin falls, it is a good time to buy either bitcoin or the altcoin of our choice.

Certainly, Bitcoin is the master of cryptocurrencies without a competitor, so it will continue to affect the movement of the entire market, including alternative currencies, not only for 20 years, but most likely for the next 100 years, this is my opinion of course according to the many indicators that we see on the ground, Bitcoin It is the reason all these cryptocurrencies exist and is the mainstay of the market so we will see the impact of Bitcoin lasting for a century at least.

This has been a thing in the past and you would be right. However, these days if you put fiat into your local crypto exchange, you could buy many many different coins with it and not just bitcoin. Back in the day you would have to buy bitcoin first, then you would have to buy other things, these days it is not like that at all.

I personally believe that we should be focusing more about the fact that bitcoin is at the top and most people consider it as the best thing, and that is why I believe that it is still one of the greatest assets because it is at the top. Being powerful generates power, I know it makes no sense for some people, but if you reach like 40 billion dollars worth of wealth, then have zero, you are not the same as someone who always had zero. Same goes for bitcoin, since it is already at the top, this is a cause to be at the top all by itself.

It's natural that the little ones follow the big ones and the big ones will definitely affect the small ones.

Without a doubt I think that things are going to remain the same regardless of how much time it passes, and the reason is simple, bitcoin is the only asset in this market in which people trust, the rest of the coins we have here are for the most part only good to speculate with.

Also when we consider the market dominance of bitcoin and how high it is then any movement of bitcoin no matter how small will affect the rest of the market, as it is simply impossible to ignore the movements of bitcoin especially when you are holding an asset that is many times weaker and that has a high correlation with bitcoin.

All cryptocurrencies run on Bitcoin.

What do you mean?

If Bitcoin had not been created, there would be no such thing as cryptocurrency today

If there is no Bitcoin definitely some name will come up.  Cryptocurrency as stated:

Quote
a digital currency in which transactions are verified and records maintained by a decentralized system using cryptography, rather than by a centralized authority.

So basically, Bitcoin is under the cryptocurrency category but not the other way around.

As long as this bitcoin exists, the cryptocurrency bitcoin will be like a king.10 years 20 years however all markets will be established depending on Bitcoin. The altcoin section will rely on this bitcoin.

I am not sure of that.  Remember the "only permanent in this world is change" so I won't won't be surprise if other crypto will take over the seat of Bitcoin but for now, let us enjoy Bitcoin being the king of crypto.

Saying that, even though Bitcoin has a great effect on other cryptocurrencies, there are times when some crypto breaks out from the effect of Bitcoin fluctuation.  As you can see, oftentimes we see some altcoin value increasing while BTC price decrease or vice versa.  I think many altcoin developers and marketers make use of the BTC price crash as an excuse for their incompetence.  So in my opinion there will be a time where Bitcoin won't continue to have the same effects on alt.

But if a new altcoin will come to overtake the position of bitcoin right now, then bitcoin will lose its power to create significant impact into altcoins. Everything depends on the market situation by that time. But for now, bitcoin will always be the king of crypto so it really has the power to leave an effect to altcoins.

Showing off dominance rate then you could see that Bitcoin would be still the king but we cant really remove the fact or possible things to happen for it to be replacen. We cant deny
that there are several coins in the market which does have better properties than with Bitcoin but still sitting below into rankings but actually does have potential.Demand would be
always the key and the reason on why coins been sitting on particular ranks. For now Bitcoin would be holding the top or peak spot but we cant be sure in upcoming years to come.
Speaking with effects on trends or movements then it do sometimes correlates sometimes not.

In theory it is possible for bitcoin to lose its position as the most dominant coin in the market but in practice this is something that is going to be incredibly difficult to actually happen.

Many argue that the technology of their favorite coin is better than the one we have on bitcoin and that is why their coin will eventually reach to the top, however even if that was true the strength of a currency is not only determined by its technology but by the trust people have in it, and when it comes to that it is obvious that bitcoin does not have any rival that is even close to have as much trust from the community as bitcoin does.

Bitcoin has already proven its stance in the midst of other coins. Over the years no coin has been able to compete edge to edge with bitcoin even with much technological advancement. It has been dominance for a long time now, and its dominancy will continue to affect the price of other coins even in several years to come. I will say this that “bitcoin is the master of all other crypto currencies”.

bitcoin will forever affect other alt values because all cryptocurrencies are based on the value of bitcoin, although there are very few coins that experience an increase when bitcoin is experiencing a decline

Not all the time but most likely it would really be always the trend setter on which if the price is declining or lets say bitcoin is on bearish mode then its impossible that we are seeing the alt market to sustain on being bullish.Lets just always presume and treat up that it would be always looking for prices to be correlated to each other and bitcoin would be the main trend setter.
We dont know if one day alts would be really that independent and that would really be depending if these coins or projects would be totally established.

if bitcoin still remains as king, then it will continue. the question now is that will bitcoin be displaced from the top spot. i dont think this will happen anytime soon. so for a long time bitcoin will continue to lead and have same effect on alt. but each project will develop individually based on how much effort is put into it on the long run.
I dont think the question of being a king or queen or pauper. It is about which one has the maximum use and acceptance or popularity in public. Because ultimately these are currencies and they can be spend - which ever has been here for the longest time gets the first-mover advantage.

There have been so many projects that tried to compete with what bitcoin has done and the few that managed to stand their ground are the top 10 coins out there. Beyond that you are looking into shitcoins which are snowballing and have no future unless they make a breakthrough, chances of which again are pretty slim.

So eventually it boils down to BTC dominating the market. It is not a bad thing, at least it is the only coin what censorship-resistance decentralized in a proper manner.

Exactly.  In any event, the value of bitcoin is important not only as a utility but also as a store of value.  Bitcoin and alt have a simple correlation that some people really don't realize.  Altcoins may explode depending on the trend of consensus consolidation with bitcoin.  Therefore, in any case, bitcoin should be available in the allocated portfolio.
So eventually it boils down to BTC dominating the market. It is not a bad thing, at least it is the only coin what censorship-resistance decentralized in a proper manner.

Some people think this is unfair but in reality, bitcoin is guaranteeing the best for the entire market.  My view bitcoin is on the right track, bitcoin will always be the driving force for the whole market.

I'm not an expert, but I believe bitcoin has a significant impact on altcoins because it is widely used by investors politicians, holders, etc. Since the beginning of time, most altcoins have been influenced by Bitcoin's price movement, so it is possible that it may have the same effect on both the bitcoin and altcoin prices. Although there is the possibility of a significant change in the market 10-20 years from now, it is reasonable to believe that with the current level of trust in bitcoin, bitcoin will continue to be the king of cryptocurrencies for the next ten years.

it will always have the same effect coz bitcoin is still the main thing and still have massive market cap in the market since 2011, and infact no one can reach such level even ethereum until now, which is reason everytime bitcoin is fluctuating they're very affected as well. And that's why they are called altcoins coz they're alternatives only, it means without bitcoin they didn't exist also.

The decline in Bitcoin has an impact on altcoin because investors use Bitcoin as their financial leverage in crypto, so the assumptions that occur will clearly have a big impact on the price of altcoins. Plus Bitcoin as the peak of investment in crypto has an important role in how the altcoin itself can be stable in the market.

It is hard to guess but however, but I would believe that Bitcoin dominance will still remain even in 10 - 20 years from now because I believe as other crypto projects ALTS develop, Bitcoin would too and possibly more adoption and because I don't see any Alts overcoming Bitcoin anytime some.

Thirteen years of cryptocurrency existence is still too short to draw any final global conclusions. Cryptocurrency continues to evolve and will continue to do so for a long time, because we know that it is not yet perfect and has many difficulties and disadvantages when using it. Therefore, the current position of absolutely all coins and tokens is temporary. In addition, the instability of the position of the cryptocurrency is due to its nature, because prices are formed solely on the basis of the ratio of supply and demand. We cannot be sure that the demand for any cryptocurrency, including bitcoin, will not fall. The fall in demand is directly reflected in the price and capitalization, and hence in dominance. Everything can and will change in this market.

Rather than taking 10 and 20 years of market movements, it is good to have the current market situation into discussion. In the last five hours the price of bitcoin have crashed drastically over $3000. The price which was found around $39600 have now come down to $36700. There is no strong reason upon which the price have fallen, and the top altcoins were following the same crash. This time on an average of around 5% decline in the price have happened.

Bitcoin Being the king of the crypto universe has always influenced the price fluctuations of altcoins and is expected to do the same in the future. Altcoins are used way less than bitcoins and bitcoins have always dominated and are expected to dominate altcoins.
Bitcoin will continue to have the same effect on alts as long as it's the number 01 pair in all trading markets. It's still bigger than USDT and some few stable coins who gained a great position over other alts if we can consider USDT as an altcoin as well.

This will have an effect on the BTC price in the long term, the more altcoins the more people need to purchase BTC as they want altcoins, so altcoins are also contributed to the BTC price that keeps increasing due to the demand.  Speaking of USDT, just only diversifying asset but people love to store coin that is highly volatile like BTC.

Actually 20 years is very long period of time, the new traders are short term investors. We can able to see of 10-40% increase in bitcoin price every year. All the altcoin price impacts was done by the bitcoin price movements. When the price of bitcoin was increased, the price of the most of the alts price will be increased.Based on this, the moment of the bitcoin was happened.

20 years is like forever here when it comes to crypto market. Even experts can just give their prediction but not precise one. Also, the movement of alts depends on the dev team themselves, how they will develop the project to survive long-term. As we have seen, very few can survive 5 years onwards. Most of them are abandoned after few months or so. Only top alts can follow the trend of BTC.

Bitcoin as the general trading pair to altcoin will make it effect on the entire market statist and that will remain for a long time to come, so you will need to work yourself around that fact, Bitcoin controls the position of the altcoin market and any time there is a significant price change in Bitcoin market the same will robe on altcoin since their running on the same market chain.

I do agree with it, I think that bitcoin will keep being the top coin but I just do not believe that it will have such a top heavy crypto market. I believe that bitcoin will be barely 20% in the future, maybe lower, and eth will be under 10% as well, and everything else will be smaller portion at the top and bigger portion at the bottom.

First the top 100 will grow and top 10 will drop, afterwards we will have even top 500 going up while top 100 goes down. So by 10-20 years passes, we are going to see plenty of coins mean something in the crypto market and have some worth, instead of just 3-5 coins cover majority of the coin markets easily.

well it's like you said for now and maybe in the future altcoins will continue to follow the movement of bitcoin. as for reversal coins such as hedge, ethhedge, xrphedge and others. they are coins that go against the flow also actually follow bitcoin but in a reverse flow. like bitcoin goes down then they go up and if bitcoin goes up then they go down. and when I see the news and the movement of btc that will go down, I buy some of these countercurrent coins. so I can still make my daily profit. but not recommended for the medium and long term. countercurrent coins are only good for daily or short term trading. because the price of bitcoin can suddenly rise which will make countercurrent coins fall suddenly.

Whenever there is decline in the market, the same gets followed by the altcoins. As bitcoin is the reference source for every altcoin this is common. Just now the price of bitcoin have dropped down to $31k, almost every altcoins are in red. Even the very few altcoins that had positive growth have started to fall off. For now users who missed the opportunity to sell can just hold, because we don't know to what extent it fall and from which point it bounces back.

I don’t consider myself an expert on cryptocurrencies, however, having observed for several years that altcoins are rigidly tied to BTC, I believe that no matter how much time passes 10 or 20 years, altcoins will also be tied to BTC and it will affect their price. One of the reasons, in my opinion, is that Bitcoin is the main cryptocurrency, and all the rest came from it, which means that they are initially tied to BTC, which allows it to influence them. To get rid of this influence, it is probably necessary that altcoins stop trading in pairs with BTC. However, this is just my guess and is unlikely to happen.

The market always have the similar pattern. If it goes down, it drags (almost) everything else with it.

Even with more options to buy altcoins compared to a few years back, BTC still took a nosedive.

the current bitcoin price movement again provides evidence that its price actually affects the price of altcoins. when the price of bitcoin dropped to the $30k to $31k range, almost all the altcoin assets I owned fell in price. in fact, the decline was by a large percentage, even when the altcoin was still in the development stage. however, I am increasingly believing that no crypto will ever be able to replace bitcoin. I firmly believe that almost everyone feels the same way when they see the price of bitcoin go up, or down. it really gives great effect to altcoins.

I strongly believe this will still be the case even about 20 years from now because most Alts are still paired to Bitcoin and even the ones that are not still cant decouple from the Bitcoins price effect especially when the market is in a downtrend. Anytime an Alts price moves way different from the effects of Bitcoin is if there is some sort of major news about that project and it is even for a while.

The decline in bitcoin did have a big impact on altcoins, almost all altcoins, especially those at the top, experienced a decline as well. this is proof of bitcoin's might as a leader of the altcoins. Let's just wait for the bitcoin season to arrive until the altcoin season will continue to rise. although it has a greater increase than bitcoin but if there is a decrease, the altcoin will also decrease by a larger percentage as well, By being seen as the safest coin in cryptocurrency, bitcoin is one of the mandatory investments if we want to diversify into altcoins

and I think a lot of people are doing the same thing.

This proves the power of bitcoin

In this case it is certainly true and indeed sometimes we also have to look in this direction because altcoins are always rotating in bitcoin as a place of circulation but on the other hand it is possible for Alt there are other additions such as looking at some of the projects they will develop as an added power there .
for now regarding the price it doesn't seem like it will be too good if you look at the movements of the last few hours but if we are willing to pay in installments then there is no harm in buying from now

I cannot see a reason why it would have any other reason to be different. I mean it has been bitcoin and alts moving altogether so far and that will be the case for a long time as well, I am guessing that the best case for all of us would be that they would maybe slow it down for a while and the difference wouldn't be same in the amount but the direction? That way while bitcoin goes 5% up, eth could go up 20% up type of deal, but that would be the biggest difference.

Aside from that, the movement will always be the same if one goes down then all go down and that type of connection is a very hard one to crack and doubt it would ever change.

because I know that altcoins will always follow bitcoin. so even though I will buy altcoins but I still analyze bitcoin first. like before, I prepared money to buy automatic coins. then I saw the potential for a decline in bitcoin again, so I canceled my intention to buy matic before bitcoin went down. so after bitcoin dropped to $29,000, I immediately went in to buy matic which decreased by 24%/24 hours due to bitcoin's decline which fell to about 8%/24 hours.
and I think a lot of people are doing the same thing.

This proves the power of bitcoin
In this case it is certainly true and indeed sometimes we also have to look in this direction because altcoins are always rotating in bitcoin as a place of circulation but on the other hand it is possible for Alt there are other additions such as looking at some of the projects they will develop as an added power there .
for now regarding the price it doesn't seem like it will be too good if you look at the movements of the last few hours but if we are willing to pay in installments then there is no harm in buying from now
yeah that's right. the best strategy now is installments (DCA). because you see the movement of BTC which is likely to continue to fall in the next few days. because the current support has been broken.

then we can see the decline in altcoins is getting sharper. never buy with all the money in the current situation. because the potential for bitcoin to continue to fall is still visible although some rejection reflections are seen but if the bitcoin accumulation area is penetrated then there is a high possibility that the decline will continue.

What do y'all think? Will BTC price movement continue to have the same effect on alts price in like 10 years? 20 years maybe? Let's hear some expert opinions.

As long as bitcoin remains at the top of the market, bitcoin will continue to dominate and the movement of bitcoin will affect most altcoins.
Without bitcoin, the cryptocurrency probably wouldn't exist. So no matter how good altcoins are, no matter how advanced the technology is, they can't replace bitcoin. Bitcoin is unique and the creator of the cryptocurrency market.

Yea unfortunately the entire market still follows bitcoin. Although bitcoins dominance as a whole has decreased over the years. More so because so many other coins and sidechains have appeared in the market sucking up market cap. Whats interesting is how stocks started to drop an dump first and crypto seemed to follow. Id love to see some real good analysts views on that. And even some charts showing similarities of say the Dow or S&P 500 compared to BTC.

This then goes into inflation here in the states, the war in Ukraine, Supply chain shortages and others related to covid. Gas and diesel prices rising again and so high. Housing market is over inflated as well. Its a recipe for disaster. An usually when all goes down the Alts get hit the hardest unfortunately. What always boggled me was coins like XRP or even ethereum and how they still follow BTC yet are completely different and on their own chains. Usually back in the early days BTC would rise alts would sink and then BTC would dump and people would flood BTC money and gains into the alts. Now it just seems to all follow suit of BTC. Just my 2 cents! Hope you enjoyed.

But what is being asked is about the same effect of what bitcoin does now and in the future , because the dominance of this coin keeps in handling the number 1 rank in this market.

But things may change in the future when those altcoins goes up against the dominance of bitcoins.

remember that Bitcoin is not the first cryptocurrency created though Bitcoin made it to the top and brings crypto into this level from 13 years ago.

Their support was broken a few hours ago and now they have the potential to continue their decline in a more severe direction.
I'm not going to talk about altcoins now because it's like slaughter and blood (red color) is everywhere :D
It's important not to look at the market in the near future because if you keep watching, you will panic more.

The market is showing the supremacy of bitcoin and no one can control that. Even the most successful altcoins cannot skip the bloody bath that the market is having which has started by bitcoin.

altcoins will continue to influence altcoins so far i have known 5 years of bitcoin and as long as i know bitcoin other altcoins are always following the movement of bitcoin and i believe it will last forever. do you have thoughts like me. .?

Yes, bitcoin will continue to remain the king among other cryptocurrencies, because whenever bitcoin price is decreasing in the market altcoins price will be decreasing in the market too. The price of bitcoin dropped down to $28,000 few days ago that is making other investors worry about altcoins price that is following the same step with bitcoin price to start decreasing in the market. I think  nothing will change that influence bitcoin price has because their team are fully ready to make bitcoin to remain the king among other cryptocurrencies forever.

Bitcoin will continue to influence the movement of altcoins forever. Because Bitcoin is the spear and has the biggest marketcap. We say that Bitcoin is the mother of all coins and its every movement will always affect the price of altcoins.
the current bitcoin price movement again provides evidence that its price actually affects the price of altcoins. when the price of bitcoin dropped to the $30k to $31k range, almost all the altcoin assets I owned fell in price. in fact, the decline was by a large percentage, even when the altcoin was still in the development stage. however, I am increasingly believing that no crypto will ever be able to replace bitcoin. I firmly believe that almost everyone feels the same way when they see the price of bitcoin go up, or down. it really gives great effect to altcoins.

This effect will continue as long as Bitcoin and altcoins exist. No matter how big an altcoin is, for example, ETH and BNB will fall in price when BTC experiences a decline in price. This will continue at any time because Bitcoin and altcoins are crypto (the same commodity, namely crypto) so they will continue to be related, example: different if Bitcoin is gold and altcoin is oil or other commodities, maybe the price of bitcoin will not affect other altcoins.

I would guess that the reason for it wasn't "just" bitcoin. I mean of course when bitcoin drops then all other altcoins drop as well and that makes sense and majority of the reason why this happened. But, at the same time there is a whole situation where people and Tera all got together and selling all they have and buying up Tera as well. If you believe that Tera will be pegged to 1 dollar again and their token will be close to 10 dollars again or even more, then you are going to end up with buying more of it.

I mean they say their ust is pegged to 1 dollar and it was under 30 cents for a while I saw that, which means you could 3x quickly if they recover. Hence why there are so many who are selling their alts and buying UST from tera right now.

The future is unpredictable but I would love to know which coin you suggest is likely to replace bitcoin dominance in the future. Just like gold, I don't think there will be a metal that can replace gold in the future.

In my opinion I think ,yes. Because bitcoin is known as the mother coin and bitcoin is always influence others altcoin. I didn't think that there will be any coin in 10 years who can be beat bitcoin and have the same effect what does btc. BTC price movements is connected to the hearts of Cryptocurrency so it will always effect on the others coin

Bitcoin has a dominant role in the overall development of cryptocurrencies. just like this time where there was a decline in bitcoin, other altcoins also experienced a decline. and until whenever I think it will remain the same, because the name bitcoin is ingrained in cryptocurrency, so everyone makes an analogy for cryptocurrency as bitcoin. and I don't think anyone can stop it even if it's the government

Bitcoin is controlling almost all altcoins for now, so if you want to buy any coin make sure you analyze bitcoin first because if bitcoin dump its going to affect other altcoins and if bitcoin pump other altcoins will also pump, but I believe with time bitcoin won't be controlling the market again, seriously it's might take time but later bitcon pump and dump won't really be having impact on other altcoins.

we don't know what will happen to bitcoin in the future. a possibility is always there whether it is a small possibility or a large possibility. but seeing the movement now I see bitcoin is getting stronger. and for now there are no altcoins that have shown their strength or progress significantly. only ethereum is still strong showing its existence that does not budge hand in hand with bitcoin. like mom and dad.

It is basically all connected to each other, it is not just bitcoin connected to the market but market is connected to bitcoin as well. Just to give an example, something happened with Luna yesterday, right? It all impacted Luna so much that it dropped 99% so far and I do not see it changing anytime soon, Luna is gone.

But, that impacted bitcoin as well and it impacted all of the market as a whole. Which is a proof that it is not just that bitcoin goes down causing alts to go down, it is also alts like Luna could change the market if they are big enough as well. I hope that we do not see this connection hurting us any further and allows us to profit soon.

Nobody knows what will happen with the price connection between altcoins and bitcoin in 10-20 years. Although I am not an expert, alts have been known to track the price of Bitcoin at any given time. Whatever bitcoin's price is, altcoins will be impacted and profit from it. However, I believe that in the future, additional currencies will become price independent of Bitcoin.

If you bought on spot and held on to it then sold when btc went up to 31k, then congrats on the profits. Too bad though, not everyone in this industry thinks the same. If that wasn't the case, more people would have studied at least the required basic knowledge to predict potential price destination. Which could've made it easier for most of the investors to buy at the right times and sell on the right times as well.

But yes, the way bitcoin takes all the whole market with it when it goes up or down shows how dominant it is. Although, this may or may not last forever. One thing I am sure of though is that it'll be impossible for me to witness it if it does happen.

Of course it will ,simply because most of the crypto users are affiliated to what goes around bitcoin, so any impact on btc will influence how they treat their altcoin holdings whether to sell when btc is bearish or buy more alts should bitcoin look bullish. But all in all what king bitcoin does, the altcoins ride the wave...simple as that!

What would be the real effect on that?  altcoin will have their movement and same as Bitcoin , though of course investors are relying in Bitcoin to support altcoins? yet in the future when the currencies are adopted surely they will have their own act , and bitcoin will no longer make any effect as their function will be promoted from all over and in all aspects  .

well the dominance of bitcoin is still clear and continues to be seen. even i'm not sure if this will end. because considering that people are increasingly trusting bitcoin especially after seeing the disaster that befell Terra Luna (altcoin). trust to invest in bitcoin is increasing. and people are becoming more careful with altcoins. because even the top 10 like terra luna can collapse. so that I myself have become more invested in bitcoin whose strength is clear.
