Title: Freewallet scam
Post by: Scottduncan on May 09, 2022, 12:02:46 PM
I have been using freewallet for several months. I have made dozens of deposits. When I tried to withdraw funds, they froze my account. I have subsequently provided KYC verification information. They have refused to unlock my account or respond confirming that the information is sufficient. This has now cost me $3000. I have tried every avenue imaginable to get them to do the right thing. I am extremely frustrated. I'm considering taking legal action.

By all means, do so... Really, there are guys on this very forum that have been trying to pass freewallet's KYC procedure for years... There seem to be only 2 things that seem (or seemed) to work: drag the discussion into the public eye (like you are doing now) and threatening (and following true) with legal action.

https://cse.google.com/cse?cx=016660200577587308545%3Aesf40ml9aag&ie=UTF-8&q=freewallet+scam&sa=Google+search#gsc.tab=0&gsc.q=freewallet%20scam&gsc.page=1

Their mode of "action" seems to be more or less the same every time:
  • many people have a strong gut feeling they're paying for positive reviews, good search engine rankings,... so they can lure in new victims.
  • when a victim makes an account, they wait untill they start using it
  • then, after a while, they selectively lock bigger (but not huge) accounts and force their victims to do a ludicrous KYC procedure including translated and notarised documents and video's
  • they just keep repeating the same questions, even if a victim took the time and effort (and payed) to jump trough their KYC hoops
  • they hope that in the end, the victim thinks: "it's just $2000, i cannot hire a lawyer for that amount" and gives up

At least, that's my perception of their mode of operations

I want to end with a positive note: most people in our community are friendly, there are several honest exchanges and there are several good wallets... You just had the bad luck of picking a bad one... Whenever there's money involved, there are bad apples, and you had the bad luck of picking such a bad apple.
In hindsight: if you would have come into this forum before you started your crypto journey, and told us you'd be using freewallet, anybody with some decent background in the community would have strongly advised against this: you really need to use a non-custodial wallet, like bitcoin core, or electrum, or... well, there are at least a dozen "honest" wallets around... If you decide to stick around, please do some investigation and ask us for directions before actually going trough with anything.

Unfortunately, Freewallet (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1177176) has been scamming people for years.  It's just a matter of time before they show up here assuring you that they're taking a look at your account, and to just be patient, but don't believe a word they say.

It's been two years since I made the list below, and as you can see they've been stringing many of these people along for longer than that.

As you can see from the post above posted by DireWolfM14 that website is a scam which means there is no way to recover your money.

What you can only do is report their website on NameCheap.

Code:
Registrar Abuse Contact Email: email@namecheap.com
Registrar Abuse Contact Phone: +1.6613102107

And try to get help on SEC they can may be able to trace them or take down the domain.

I am hoping Freewallet will see this and do the right thing.

My support ticket number is 413439.

I do have an attorney i am working with and will contact their advertisers. I dont want it to be ugly but I will have my attorney send copies of my complaint to Netflix and Forbes after it goes to the SEC. If they would simply unlock my account all that would be unnecessary

Is there any downside to filing a formal complaint to SEC? Before i do so

I don't know how you ended up with freewallet, but it's the worst scam wallet you can ever think about using, and negative reviews can easily show up in google search.
Just look at some negative reviews left on their profile; https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;u=1177176

Try making a lot of noise and see if they can get ashamed to refund your money, but chances of you losing that money are close to 100%

You can see there's few thread has been solved from the quote by @DireWolfM14 above, but it's a past accusations around 2018-2020. I've remembered Elon Musk have a problem with this exchange on the last year FreeWallet.org is a scam - Elon Musk account locked by Freewallet criminals (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5316100.0). His accusation was solved quickly, this because Elon Musk has enough power to influence his followers. Since you're an average Joe, it wouldn't be easy.

Im trying to determine the best path forward.

Making noise with a lawyer is good, if you can find the right cage to rattle.  If you're in the US you can file a complaint with the FBI's Internet Crimes (https://www.ic3.gov/) division, as well as with the SEC.

Thank you. My attorney sent them a notice of our intent to pursue legal action this evening. Then we took the step of filing a formal complaint to the SEC. This complaint has now been submitted as well. Tomorrow we will add to it by submitting one to the FBI division you mentioned.

Freewallet, if you're reading this, don't pop in with "please provide more info". I've already provided it. You can unlock my account now and make it right. That's it.

Freewallet is a very bad wallet for anyone, I have never heard anything good from people about this Freewallet before, they have probably stolen people's funds and assets themselves, when you hear too less about a crypto wallet its because its not that good or its just as bad as Free wallet, stay away.
