Hi!

Not only them should start looking to Bitcoin but every community too.

For example, I think that each Solidarity Economy communities must have its own Bitcoin/Litecoin Mining Rig. So, instead of creating a "social coin", they will use Bitcoins!

Best!

Thiago,

I really like your thinking. It's sort of a "self-sustainable" economy via the "social coin" very interesting idea.  Each community is its own Silo. Great suggestion!

Thanks!

Excellent, I wish them well. Now, if only the rest of the movement would take note and see that you can achieve what you want buy participating in the free market much easier than just sitting aroung whining about how unfair life is.

From the article
Quote
Founders initially want to start with 500 members and grow to 2,000 members, two branches and $7 million in capital assets by the end of next year. They say branch staffing will add 60 part-time jobs to the local economy, and the entire enterprise will create a total of 1,000 jobs in the city. Organizers also pledge to help residents by offering microloans of $5,000 or less and subsidized student loans at lower-than-average rates.

So, they think they can create a sustainable business that will offer better benefits to customers?
Isn't the free market beautiful?

They have a facebook. Maybe bitcoiners should go there to contact them?

It would be great if they could open a physical location in SF for bitcoin/USD exchange.

This is an important first step if bitcoin is ever going to work for remittances.

SF is among the most logical places in the world to operate that service.
