Hello community, I am COOLCRYPTOVATOR.  It's to notify you that I have requested theymos to change my display name due to some reason. And he approved it within a short time. Thanks, theymos for your quick response and consideration.

My current display name is The Cryptovator

I still love my old username where I was famous. But a few impersonators just forced me to change the display name. The profile link still exists the same. This thread is just for public announcement and awareness.

That's cool, honestly this third name I like to see it.

If i may, reveal my honesty about the second name @COOLCRYPTOVATOR, in my eyes a bit messy.

I'm sure with this new name, of course hope will have a positive aura for many people, especially companies and businesses, honestly it's a good name, don't change it again in the future, my assessment is the name @The Cryptovator, it's perfect for you.

How many times have you been allowed to change the name? Like YOSHIE said, I think this is your 3rd time. No matter what you change it to we all know you and your quality of work.

What are the chances you will change your name again within the next 18-24 months?  ;D

Honestly speaking do not bother those impersonators, let them do what they like. The new one is better looking, congratulations on this one.

How does this stop impersonators? Won't they just use your new nickname?

I was into dubstep before it was cool, and now I'm too old to be cool anyway.  I feel your pain.

I don't think admin will allow me anymore lol. I have changed it 2 times though but the last time was just from smaller to capital. Yes, it's the third name, but almost similar. I don't change totally since I love my username. But the current display name looks quite professional lol.

You can't. However, I would have personally took this opportunity to create the identical username as many places as I can, even if I aren't going to use them, just to try, and prevent impersonators having the exact match. You can't do anything about those that create similar usernames or places that have an identifier system, and not truly unique usernames.

It's partly the reason why I like generic usernames so I don't have to go into the effort of all that. There's thousands of Welsh's out there, and I'm fine with that.

I didn't want to spam your most recent thread, as you already created an announcement thread regarding your new name.
I was a bit shock reading that thread, then the username which I didn't recognize and then catching the signature and other profile details below it, thinking; that looks very familiar.
Cool name, cooler than your previous one in my opinion.

I'm guessing you already created matching profiles on your business pages for uniformity; it would be easier to get impersonated that way.

They are updating but slowly :D

You can't prevent them with this tactics, because they will always add just one more letter or change number and add identical image with description to look almost identical to original username.
Telegram is notorious for this, but Discord is even worse, and there you can create totally identical username with only ID is different, but you need to change settings to enable visible ID.

Yeah, I understand that, and I did allude to that being the case. However, it's probably a decent idea to at least get the matching usernames on as many platforms as possible. I mean it doesn't exactly hurt, if you have a unique username just register them you don't have to use them. Although, yeah you'll never stop others impersonating users, and unfortunately with the different characters some platforms allow, some can pretty much look undistinguishable.

Yeah sites like Discord that use the identifier system e.g #0001 are particularly bad for impersonators. The other option is to state explicitly you don't use any other platforms, however if you do use a few, that can be rather difficult to clarify then, so best to just get the matching usernames, and never use them. It's at the very least a extra step of protection, even if it doesn't solve the problem completely, it at least mitigates it slightly.

That is surprising and commendable as well from the admin, i thought this sort of request usually takes a bit of time, or even outright rejection most of the time. I guess this is your second change of name mate, if you do not mind can you tell us how long it took the admin to accept your request in the first instance and how long it took this time around.

Having said that, i think this name is much better that the previous one written in capital letters, i always prefer names written in small letters actually, it is just my personal thing anyway, but i think they look much better, at least in my eyes, i don't know for others.

Both times I got a quick response from the admin, likely I am lucky here. This time name changed over the night though it's surprising to me as well. Likely he wasn't busy luckily and I had provided some good reason to change my username. But yes, the current Display name looks good than the previous. But I still love my old display name because I become famous with that name.

Highly circumstantial I imagine. If there's a legitimate reason to change a username, and theymos agrees that, I imagine he's more inclined to do it. Although, timing could be hit, and miss. Might have just caught them at a good time. Although, most of my communication with theymos has been relatively quick. Although, I wouldn't base how quick it too this time around or my experience with theymos. If you ever wanted to change your username, you ask, and it either gets rejected or takes as long as it takes.

I've been asking myself the same damn thing--I pretty much begged Theymos (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5312089) to allow me to switch my username to Sceptical Chymist, and I was met with a concrete wall of silence except for the members who supported my request in the thread I made.  

Now I'm not saying I'm jealous, of course.  Good for OP that he can seemingly change his name at will (or at least if there's some something or other about an imposter that makes the change necessary).  I'm just perplexed as to why someone like myself, a member of 7+ years who's done a fairly decent job as a merit source--and I never asked to be one, mind you--would just be denied without even being told I was denied.

Many users who aren't (regular) visitors to this board won't know both usernames are the same person. It's going to take a while before that sinks in.

Don't you think running away from what you liked wasn't a better approach? Trust me, the same impersonators will also track you to the new name. Will you then also run when that happens again?

Hell i had never seen the above thread till now, never had the idea you actually wanted to stop being 'The Pharmacist', lol ;D. I skimmed through the replies on the thread, and from what i get you never got any answer whatsoever, well that is strange, especially for someone of your reputation. Did you ever get to give Theymos your reason for wanting to change your username? Or you didn't get the chance to since he never replied in the first place?

I am thinking the problem could have been the timing, maybe you asked at a time Theymos was prolly busy or less inclined to make any such change for users, i can't see any other reason, first you are an established user, and from my deduction you never actually had the chance to tell Theymos the reason, so the claim of 'the reason wasn't susbstantial' can't suffice. Why don't you try asking again bro? How about that, well that is if you consider it important of course.

Damn, it's already 2nd time when you changed your name. I think it's unique case. And at the same time when other users don't get chance to change their name even once.
IIRC, first time you also changed your name because of impersonators, but I'm not really sure how it will help. If they were able to impersonate you with 2 previous usernames, what will stop them from doing same with current one?

But i like your previous name than this new name. I noticed that the old name made you to be famous and currently this new one is just like start up name. The reason of changing your username, to me is good, but i understand that if somebody wants to impersonates with your name it will. Even though the name is changed twice. I like the before name than this one. Since you want to make changings you would have added " The " in the beginning of your name

Are you sure that theymos has seen your thread and he is aware of your application? If your application has a good reason to change your display name, he might allow you to change the name since you are pretty much a known person in this forum. If theymos aware of your application and still didn't let you change the username. Maybe there could be another good reason behind it. You are popular enough with this username. Maybe theymos like this username too much, so he won't change your username  ;D (kidding).

Impersonating with a previous username was pretty easy was a couple of capital 0. So I explained theymos how impersonators scam innocent users, especially on Telegram and other media. Although I can't prevent them all, I don't want to let them deceive people easily. That's how theymos convinced actually to change the display name. Somehow I was inspired by your name lol. That's why I use "The" works  ;D. However, I feel the current display name looks professional than before. But still love my old name.

I have to say this that I don't know a username could be changed or that a user could make an appeal for that to the Admin and am sure your reasons must be so convincing enough to have been granted such opportunity, well the two names looks ok to me bith the former and the new one, but we must always bears in mind that this forum is open to all who find it of a good benefits across the whole world, while some just come across it while trolling and surfing the internet, our motives, objectives amd calibre of users are entirely different.
