There is new scam going around crypto discords and telegram channels and it has started to pop up everywhere. The scam is pretty much where they are giving away recovery wallet phases. If you're going to import or try to recover the wallet it will say "Your ETH balance is 0 cannot send." It will ask you to pay for gas fees. People will find the wallet and will pay in ETH for the gas prices. As soon as a person deposit the amounth of ETH needed for gas price, the bot will record any of the balance changes and it will then instantly send the ether out to the thief address.

I've heard of that scam and it's like that there's a smart contract or they've programmed it that if ever that address receives an ETH for the gas fee.

It will automatically send to the hacker that have given that private key.

Do not be fooled and don't be greedy.

There's no easy money.

Who is the thief here by the way, if you ask me it is the person who is trying to import someone else's funds with their recovery phrase, thus i wouldn't mind if they turn out to be in the receiving end in their attempt to steal. If you try to steal from someone else and get robbed in the process, it is fair enough to say you can have no complaints right?

Did anyone still fall in this classic scam? How someone really stupid to believe there's an easy money in this world, no one will starve or beg for money to feed him. There's a lot type of this scam e.g. unknown exchange, investment company, cloud mining, stranger etc that ask such fee/money to unlock a prize/reward are obviously a scam.

I have already received numerous emails like this that says “Your Trust Wallet is not verified” bla, bla, bla etc. I just simply ignore and trash them for good because why would Trust Wallet do that since they are a non-custodial wallet anyway?

Always learn to have second thoughts or ask second opinion from the experienced ones rather than just getting tempted to take action without questioning at all.

Some people still fall for scams involving credit cards after years and years since credit cards were invented. No wonder there is new people in crypto space trying to make a few easy bucks.

And besides, these scamming trick was rampant in telegram groups.
You'll never have to trust someone from these two channels and not even from strangers. Honestly, these scammers will talk to you nicely and aim for you to give trust them. They help you and later on, they will scam you.

We don't just live ignorant about crypto, as we are investing in this, therefore, it was important to know how this actually works.
We don't let other people manage to do transactions on our behalf, it was advisable to do this using reputable exchanges, not strangers.

Even a newbie will easily figured out as scam since why will the owner of the wallet will send recovery seed phrase randomly via PM? Newbie that will fall victim on this kind of obvious scam doesn't deserve to be in crypto since there's a lot of more dangerous scheme than that in crypto.

We don't need to spoon feed newbies for all the basic safety tips when entering in crypto.

It’s still very identical to schemes where the scammers as people to help him withdraw a certain amount of crypto-currency stating that for some reasons especially that he/she countries doesn’t allow the transactions of crypto-currency then by that the scam, insensitive people, what we must learn or know now is that this type of scheme mostly target one area and that’s how greedy the prey is, once you not greedy and you believe in working for what you earn then this sort of scams won’t be a thing to worry about.

Well, there is no easy money anywhere and that's the idea I tend to live by. Yeah, there might be such things as luck or grace but even then, you've got to put in some effort to attract those.

When it comes to getting scammed by the means as in OP, it's very possible and for sure, it still happens. People are getting scammed by even worst schemes or techniques so classic that it's supposed to have to have completely diluted. Ignorant forks are still everywhere and needs to be given this awareness.

Although as shaddy as the scheme is, it actually hurts the evil minded and greedy once. Why would someone without being contacted try to recover a wallet address that deonst belong to him or her. It's something that ought not to happen if you believe in an honest living and keep clean.

Honestly, this isn't new to me. For a long time, I have been receiving this type of DM and mail. But I never tried to click or open this message. I know very well nothing is free in the world. So no reason to trust any random DM or mail. I just block directly such as DMs. Only a few greedy people just fall into this type of scam and expect free money. This way sometimes your device would hack as well. So be careful with this type of scam attempt.

This is actually not new if you ask people in here about it. The question is, why would you import a recovery phrase or seed phrase from someone who shared it publicly?. Isn't that stealing of whatever's in that wallet?. In my opinion, I think the owner of that wallet have some kind of program where whatever amount is deposited in that wallet and then the bot will automatically send the remaining amount to that person's wallet address. Anyway, I have seen the same situation where there's a newly sent eth in the wallet and it takes minutes more like 10-30 minutes before it got transferred to a wallet address presumably the thief.

.
I think lots of people are still falling for the scam and the only people that will fall for this scam are the newbies, most of them don't really understand what cryptocurrency is all about, they just want to join and they want to make money, they think cryptocurrency is a space where you will join then you start making money that's why they fall for all this kind of scam. We just have to be careful and also always enlighten our newbies about wallet security and cryptocurrency in general.

We should be careful for people platforms we trade with. Because people are building different of website to attract the attention of who invest in cryptocurrency for order to wiped out they financial or capital from their wallet, so those people are same set of people who do launch a sam project to extort money from people. They have seen that people is now aware of telegram fraud, they have diversified their sense of scam to another status. Every investor especially newbies who is money inquisitive, have to be conscious of the platform they can enroll with.

We got scammed because we let this happen.
This will not just addressed to newbies but also to those who are not techy individuals. Sometimes we just think that asking in a telegram group gives us the solution, well, maybe some offer seriously and are really want to help but some also has a devil intention pretending to be good. I do ask but I don't let their hand do it. Of course, we are already aware of these certain scenarios, we have to put in our mind that by any means, we become a victim of these scammers. We'd better anticipate it, rather than be sorry.

I've read this scam/scheme somewhere and newbies should be aware about it.

Why would someone take someone's private keys when they can just make one for their own. Once it is released in public there's no assurance that it was safe anymore to use. They shouldn't ignore this kind of warning and there's always a saying that not your keys not your coins but this time it's the wallet.

It's a trap that newbies should not take lightly.

As many members already pointed out, this is not a new scam technique.
It's only the technique used by scammers to publish the wallet seeds or private keys without raising suspicions which differ a bit.
I remember during the late 2017/early 2018 bounty craze, many members apply to join bounty campaigns, but instead of submitting their addresses, they intentionally submitted their private keys.

Be vigilant as always.

An old way to scam people but still working until now, it makes sense if you smell a scam then don't let this happen.
If you're a fan of collecting free give away always have a separate email address and wallet on it than your personal wallet, or much better never to join that because there's no really giving free money these days.

Sometimes our greed will put us in danger and if we're in a bounty campaign, we're prone to scam we should remember always this and stay vigilant at all times.

This modus is already aged, this kind of modus is always popping when the cryptocurrency is at its peak, especially on a bull run.
I remember before when bull season around 2017-2018, on the Ethereum network, a lot of people shared private keys and a wallet with a lot of erc20 tokens, but you need gas to send it out and that's their way to steal peoples' money.

Most people who are new to the crypto world are victims of this type of fraud. This is a common strategy for cheating people. Fraudsters have become more experienced at the moment as they try with all the fancy strategies on how to bring other people's money in their own pockets.

Anyone who got scammed through this trick is a scammer him or herself, this is a case where readiness took over someone and they start playing as a hunter, little do they know that a hunter will become the hunted.

We should be careful, there is no easy way of making money like that, greedy people always fall victim of such things.
