Title: Is there any other alternative?
Post by: Cantsay on June 12, 2022, 08:14:18 AM
I wanted to create a new topic in Archival so that I can use it to practice some of the post formatting syntax I have been learning in the forum but it seems like newbies ain't allowed in there ( cause I don't see "new post" button).
Please is there any alternative?

Because each time I make a post I see so many buttons and I'm curious to find out what each of them does so please help me out.

Are you sure you can’t create a thread there? Going over a few of the threads there, I’ve seen a few that were recently created by newbie accounts (such as this one (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5386717.0)), although they may have been move there from another board. If you can’t create a topic in Archival, and since it’s for testing porposed, perhaps you could create it in off-topic (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=9.0) and then move it to Archival.

As far as I know, only Serious Discussion boards prohibit "Newbie" rank from creating a new post.

But as an alternative for testing, you can use SCEditor[1] to study how BBCode works. Although it is not as similar to the forum editor, you can still practice the fundamentals, particularly text formatting.

What's wrong with using the 'Preview' button beside the 'Post' button? The thread/post doesn't need to be live for you to see what it looks like.

@OP you must click a wrong board, it's either serious discussion or ivory tower. In archival board anyone can post including a brand new account.

Perhaps he want to save his work, so he prefer to post. He can still view his work through draft, but draft is limited for 100 items and 7 days only.

Up to 100 drafts are kept. Drafts are deleted after 7 days.

I wanted to create the thread so that whenever I want to try out something new like this help I found: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=help;page=post#bbcref

And don't forget that I'm still a newbie and still have a lot to learn. Everyone has their own effective way of learning as for me I believe in putting to test what one is learning or has learnt

What ETFbitcoin said. There's like a dozen other ways on how you can save your work.

You're free to test things out without posting the thread lol. Like I said, try using the Preview button. It literally solves what you want to do without posting the thread. It doesn't limit you at all.

It's not really reliable for saving your work though. I expect you'll lose some draft if you frequently click "Preview" button.

I'm not sure about on mobile but you can hit control+s after pressing preview on PC browsers and they'll save everything for you. Maybe a screenshot and a copy and paste is best for mobile (you can then import that into notes).

I think the limit for posting in archival was hero member accounts plus, not sure if it's still the same (it's likely mods moved anything for people under that rank).

I don't think that their is a restrictions of any account irrespective the ranking level not to create a thread in any section of this forum, except a situation whereby you are restricted from board you post because of a commitment that happened between you and the entire people who is posting there due to unreasonable post or thread created. For my long stays in the community i haven't noticed or experienced restrictions of creating topic before.

Ok, you're right.

On this thread they asked a similar question, and Jr. Member was suggested as the minimum rank to create a topic there:  Restrictions on Archival Topic Creation (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5156667.msg51540129#msg51540129).

This other thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5278385.msg55267856#msg55267856), has multiple multiple opinions on the required rank, amongst which I found a post of mine (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5278385.msg55268347#msg55268347) believing Jr. Member was the minimum rank based on @Maggiordomo’s bot account posting there with that rank.

Copper Members can post there it seems (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5278385.msg55275487#msg55275487).

I haven't seen any official response that certifies Jr. Member as the minimum rank, so if a Jr. Member swings by here and wants to give it a go in Archival at creating a topic, we'd like to hear back on whether he succeded or not.

I guess I will have to stick with the preview then.

Thanks for your help.
