Title: Would you be interested in a telegram bot that notifies you about btctalk forum?
Post by: edgycorner on June 17, 2022, 07:37:55 PM
If a telegram bot notifies you about changes on the forum according to your preference, for example: new topics on a board, your username mentions, new campaigns & bounties, replies on your post, and a few more similar options.

Would you be interested in such a bot?

if yes, then do you think it will be worth paying for? A small fee (like 2 USD for each month of usage) with a range of customizable options.

I am planning to provide this project (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5146905) as a service. Not sure if it will be worth the time  ???

Your opinion on this will be appreciated  :)

I think these are already done for bots other users have made or by the forum's own features (eg notify) so you'd just be adding to that. Selling forum data as well as this might be something more people look at soon though (eg for new projects to see the things new coins are offering and what seems to be a basic requirement to attract larger communities - eg by similarities).

The campaigns and bounties thing hasn't really been done though and might be one to look at but I don't think there's a huge demand for it as a lot of campaigns/bounties can be found by watching other people's signatures change.

Why not try something new, such as a Trust list notification? I'd like to be notified when someone adds or removes me from their trust list!

Receiving notifications from a specific group of users, such as I enjoy having a good discussion with some users on the gambling board. Is there a way for someone to add such usernames to your bot and receive notifications whenever such users post on the gambling board? Can we get such bot for $2?  :)

That's something I would love to see, too. We already have bots for mentions and merits that work pretty well, but having something new would be a great addition. This idea is very nice and I am quite glad you suggested it.

Having such kind of preference is good but it will be kinda tiring to be receiving buzzing telegram notifications of different kinda new posts, new campaigns and bounties that are irrelevant. Considering the number of posts been made In a day in this forum, someone might end up having hundreds of notifications from Btt, which will be unnecessary or so excessive for him or her to start going through.

An idea: accept payments through Lightning. You (potentially) earn a bit of money passively, and you get people to actually try using Lightning wallets.

As for will people use it, there's only one way to find out I guess. :P

There are some Telegram bots with some information of users in the forum. You should check it and consider what your bot can provide differently.
  • [TELEGRAM BOT] Merit, Trust List, etc. [INFORMATION] (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5224339.0)
  • [TELEGRAM] Yet Another BitcoinTalk Notification BOT (merits, mentions, topics,+) (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5248878.0)
  • [β] BPIP Extension: user info & extra features add-on/extension, Firefox/Chrome (not a Telegram bot, it's for reference) (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5224821.0)
  • List of Bitcointalk.org Userscripts/ Add-ons (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5148488.0)

My suggestion goes to
  • Trust list
  • Trust feedback
  • Flag
  • DT Strength
  • Bot notifications for any change with trust list, trust feedback, flag

References with some works from LoyceV
  • DT1-strength of 211 users in 113 weeks (weekly updates) (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5254436.20)
  • Complete overview of users on DT1 and DT2 and their ratings (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5139250.0)

Do forum members who aren't interested in bounties and altcoins and only focus on Bitcoin even use Telegram? Maybe some, but I don't really see it as a platform where Bitcoin advocates go. Can someone recommend at least 3 Telegram groups/channels with professional and non-retard like style of communication where people are discussing Bitcoin? Maybe I am missing something.
With retard-like I mean "when moon", "when lambo", "when new exchange", memes, lols, hodl, and similar type of crap.

What I am trying to say is, does it have to be Telegram? I prefer LoyceV's notification bot because I can look at it when I want to when it comes to mentions and quotes. No Telegram buzzing in the background.

<…>
As far as I’m aware, Trust list settings are only obtainable through the weekly Trust File (https://www.bitcointalk.org/trust.txt.xz), so we can’t get any more frequent updates that that (which is already covered by @LoyceV’s solution, although it can obviously coexist with other implementations).

<…>
One thing to consider for the OP is that trust related items are likely to have a narrower prospective target audience for the use of the bot that merit, post and notification feature related functions.

Very insightful opinions.
I would just be combining GreatArkansas's bot (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5224339.0) and TryNinja's bot (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5248878.0). That would be frivolous and futile. Their bots are perfect at fulfilling their intended purposes.
As for the trust list tracker, I will look more into it later on and maybe I can contribute somethig new.

Thank you, everyone.
