Title: wtf is happening?!!?
Post by: Ampix0 on December 09, 2011, 03:55:48 AM
All of the sudden I get a message that I sent one bitcoin. I start saying to myself. wtf?
then all of the sudden I have 6 more coins than i did before.
a minute later I got 6 more coins but sent 2.

Now I have had my wallet on my back up hard drive for .. a while now I kind of quite for a few months. So im clueless to what is happening here.

I can understand donations are catching up with me. But how the hell am I sending money too?

Where are these messages coming from?  The standard client doesn't send mail.  Can you post the messages here so we can get a better idea what's going on?

I only got one it was in the system tray, a balloon message. the transactions stoped.. but for a second there I was at 17 coins now I have 6 :(

I wonder if because its been so long... it just went through all my old transactions and thinks.. it just happened?

Ah, so you restored a backup and fired it up?  Yes, that's expected then - the backup starts downloading the blockchain and replaying history.  If you check the transactions they probably aren't recent.

You've only downloaded 91% of the blocks according to the bar graph at the bottom.

If you think your wallet may be compromised by a coin stealer virus or something, generate a new address and send your remaining coins there.  You can make an instant paper wallet here: https://www.bitaddress.org/  Do it on another computer if you can, print it out, and just send your coins to the public address.

What software version are you running?

im  99% confident no virus has ever been on my computer.

This computer has been completely reformatted twice since my transactions in June.

and I never downloaded any small time bs so i highly doubt it.

Two things that could be happening:

- As they pointed out above, could be a wallet stealler that has somehow got on too your computer. Might of been via USB (which is very common these days)? Rootkit wallet steallers could be possible, but it isn't likely.

- Your still catching up with the blocks. I can't explain the deductions your seeing from "today".

Here's to: address for most of the transactions:  https://blockexplorer.com/address/1KFyEbYxnBj4Nc2SagWzSGowaVtZcARcrL (https://blockexplorer.com/address/1KFyEbYxnBj4Nc2SagWzSGowaVtZcARcrL)

Note that they're all from several months ago.  Nothing new is being sent.  Googling it, it looks like it was money you spent on Blackjack.  :)

There's also the possibility that you posted your private keys publicly, and someone imported them and took your money. It may seem stupid, but I've seen it happen. Most likely, though, it's probably your own transactions from a long time ago as everyone else is saying.

That's just your client catching up with old transactions.  Is this a restore from an old backup?  What version are you running?

I'm not sure why it's showing the date as today.  Try exiting and restarting.  Also try double-clicking one of those transactions at the top and see how many confirmations it has.  If it's more than ten, you're fine, it's just old transactions posting in your restored backup.

The time stamps are when the client first saw the transaction, not the time of the block it was recorded in. Don't know why it's done like that. Everything you've done after June 8th will get todays date or later.

this sucks, there was another thread around here can't remember where, hope it gets fixed someday and we get to see the actual transaction time-stamp
