Title: Trapped funds on Bitpay wallet donation offered for help
Post by: platinumsteel2016 on July 14, 2022, 03:40:09 PM
I transferred funds to my bitpay wallet from my electrum wallet, then to my bitpay Mastercard. I have preformed this numerous of times successfully.
But this time, my funds appears to be "trapped".

I transfer funds from my electrum wallet to my bitpay wallet, then transfer funds to my bitpay Mastercard,
as usual. This time was really strange incident. When I checked to see if the funds reached my Mastercard
debit card,it states "Unsent Transaction", and list the funds that are trapped, also says "Total Locked Balance"
0.009916 BTC.
Under "Spendable Balance" it reads:
"Locked
The amount of bitcoin stored in this wallet that is allocated as inputs to your pending transaction proposals.
The amount is determined using unspent transaction outputs associated with wallet and may be more than the
actual amounts associated with your pending transaction proposals."

Transaction Hash c6e957cfb8e766c95f6799e242b2b77dde17f14cc360701f8d3156431c566e4d

I hope to hear from you reasonably soon, best regards,

This looks like the warning I get on my online banking from a debit card when I have a pending (outward) transaction. Is that where you got this message from or did it come from trying to move the funds.

Are the funds on the card also or are they stuck in another part of the account.

The transaction has been confirmed already, so IMO, if there's is anything you can do, it would be to reach out to the support.

I think that this error occurs when you try to spend from your card and you have an unconfirmed balance, meaning that you sent the bitcoin but it is waiting for confirmation.
Try it now, everything will work because the transaction has been confirmed.

unspent transaction outputs associated >> UTXO >> your TX ID.

Husires, The error message is the same.

OmegaStarScream, You're correct, the transaction has been made and the app sees it. But somehow the funds are

"locked" within the bitpay after I tried to transfer it to the card. I contacted support. Support says as soon

as they can get to me, will provide assistance...I have been waiting over a week now. This has NEVER happened

before! I have a serious headache now, what do I do??!

I'm thinking of two possibilities -

1 - Either the debit card has been frozen by Bitpay for some reason (not necessarily because of a malicious app, perhaps you made a payment to a buggy service, but it thought that it didn't receive any payment so it used standard banking protocol to raise a "fraud alert" to the bank) - you can test this by attempting a small donation to Wikimedia Foundation for example - if this is the case then you need to ask BitPay support to unlock it for you, your chances of success are higher if you have already completed KYC before this incident.
2 - Perhaps there is a minimum amount that you need to send to the debit card to top it up, and you have sent somethine less than the minimum [it's not likely, given that you have successfully made this kind of transaction before].

This was the first thing that came to my mind upon reading the original post.  Especially when seeing the amount is 0.009916 BTC.  Maybe there's a 0.01 BTC minimum deposit amount and all that is needed is another small deposit?

platinumsteel2016,
In the past have your deposits been over 0.01 BTC?  Anything else that might stand out as unusual about your transaction this time?

what do I do??!
Did you authorize a transaction immediately after you transferred it to your BitPay prepaid Mastercard? If "yes", then all you can do is wait until it gets cleared: I have a Pre-Authorization hold on funds. What can I do? (https://support.bitpay.com/hc/en-us/articles/360050100012-I-have-a-Pre-Authorization-hold-on-funds-What-can-I-do-) [refer to the second paragraph]
- You might want to also check if you've locked your card by accident!
