Title: Anyone using Gate here ?
Post by: Len Saldua on July 19, 2022, 06:55:50 AM
Just spent a good couple of hours signing up and doing my KYC at Gate.io, only to have a frustrating experience. The interface is a mess, all I wanted to do was buy some damn token, so I did a trial buy on the Spot Trading section using "Limit Order" . I wanted to buy some POLIS tokens so I looked for the right pair ( POLIS/USDT ) and using some tiny USDT funds I had there I hit the "Buy" button. Nearly 12 hours later my order is still "pending" I check my Funds Overview and I only see the Tether Icon, there's no POLIS token there or anywhere ! Also my ticket has not been answered ! WTF !! All this trouble to buy one damn token ? Am I supposed to wait 48 hours or something ? What is this ? Not impressed ! >:(

Such anoying and dull platform as well to me, I don't like using them either. I was using Gate.io as of 2020 but had a terrible experience with them as of that time ,then I had to dump them and use other user friendly platforms, though I don't know if there's any changes they've made so far in order to improve their platform. I suggest you should go try out this platforms when you're dealing with any centralized exchanges when carrying out your Cryptocurrency transaction, I do think they're better in my opinion. Check out the list below

FTX,
Binance,
Kucoin.

Perhaps it has something to do with the specified price in the Limit Order?

I am not using Gate but I am certain that using Limit Order has little to no difference compared to Binance. In Binance, there is a certain price limit you can set based on the Market Price of the asset. This means that you can't just open a buy order of $50 per coin when it is currently at a price of $75.

In other words, you can't make a trade when the price you set is not close enough to the market price.

What token do you want to buy? It can be a shit token. Which means the token may not have a good limit order price and if you use the market order, it can be a loss if you buy it as people are not demanding for the coin and make its market price to be very low than what appears on the market. Be careful when buying shit coins, you can buy at loss.

Or what limit order price did you use. For example, if you want to buy bitcoin and its price is at $22000, a limit order at 19990 will not make the order filled unless bitcoin fall back to or below that price.

I checked Coinmarketcap now, Gate.io 24 hours trading volume is $1,573,557,595.23. You can check that using this link: https://coinmarketcap.com/exchanges/gate-io

The problem is not from Gate.io, there is something you are not getting right.

I have not encountered such problems on this exchange. This exchange is used by me to buy new coins, of which there are a lot on this exchange, because unlike others, Gate.io conducts a free listing. Most likely, the problem is that you have incorrectly set the price of the limit order. Since POLICE has a low trading volume, you had to take this fact into account when opening a purchase order.

Is it the Star Atlas DAO(POLIS)?
There's FTX and Kraken that you should have used more than them.

FTX,
Binance,
Kucoin.
That token he's longing to buy isn't on the other two but only FTX if it's the Star Atlas DAO(Polis) that he's wanting to buy.

Am I supposed to wait 48 hours or something ? What is this ? Not impressed ! >:(
Contact Gate.io's support, they're the only one that can speed up your buy.

In addition about those above users who already pointed out,

You need to do you own research first before using any services, is there any reason why you're choose Gate.io instead of FTX or Kraken? because Gate.io is a shit exchange and shouldn't be used if your shitcoins doesn't only listed on that's exchanges.

Don't get tricked with exchanges has fake trading volume e.g. MEXC, CoinTiger etc.

Using CMC you'll find out the reading volume which exchange platform has a higher volume.
https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/star-atlas-polis/markets/

I think the best pick is the FTX exchange platform here, it has a high volume percentage and also high liquidity.  That's also a good exchange compared to Gate.io.  I have been using this exchange since 3 years ago when they don't have a heavy restriction regarding KYC but when they have an upgrade of their KYC, I stopped using them.

Contact Gate.io's support, they're the only one that can speed up your buy.
That's good advice and I tend to agree with this.

If this was because you used a Limit order (which exists with almost every single exchange in the first place), then LOL. I'm guessing you're used to using the "swap" feature of some exchanges? Sure is convenient, but as far as I know you're paying for more fees.

Are you really sure that your order is already fulfilled because there's a high possibility that it's still open order since you used limit order and not market order if you want instantly purchased POLIS token based on the current liquidity in the market.

I'm using gate before to buy newly listed token that is not listed yet on top tier exchange and I never encounter this same problem. In fact it's my first time to see this issue on limit order. Maybe the price that you set is too low while the price never reach that price level even 48hrs.  ::)

Quite a good read. Nice !

Okay so I went back to Gate and still no POLIS in my Account. And by the way, only Gate and possibly FTX have this token ( Star Atlas DAO ) that's why I went with Gate ( KYC on FTX is a bit more thorough )
I guess I am not familiar with the "Limit Order" feature on Gate. In KuCoin, there is a Limit Order feature, which mostly I would never use, using the "Market Order" feature instead ( buy at whatever the current market price is ). Why doesn't Gate have this feature ? I don't even remember setting a specific price, as I've honestly never placed a limit order before, nor do I want to use this in the future after my awful experience, but just out of curiosity I went and looked at the set "Price" on Gate.  It's clearly $0.53. Price is now $0.58 but 24 hours ago when I set the order it would have been below $0.53 . So what gives ? Why didn't the order execute ? I still got nothing on my account, and even my Tether is gone now because it's assumed I want to go through with that order. So basically I lost my Tether and never got the POLIS token I wanted. Yes I can probably recover the Tether USDT by cancelling the order, but I sure as hell don't want to try another order now !!
Drives me nuts because I also want to buy Enjinstarter, which is also only available on Gate !

I'm thinking I will never figure out why this didn't work. Gate responded to my ticket but they closed the Ticket and marked it as "solved" not even giving me a chance to respond, even now !! And when you do respond, they give you a limit of 120 words or something which is absurd. My previous comment here was about 600 words, and I didn't even go into too much detail !!

Why not try the "Buy Now" option using a market order, I think it will execute orders directly.
As it will execute at the highest price and therefore the price may be higher than the average prices, but this is better than waiting for a long time.

If the "market order" option does not work, you should contact the support team although I think it will.

I don't know, but I will never buy a token listed on one or two platforms.

I'm pretty sure I did click on the Buy token option. Anyway. I just noticed there is another feature on Gate... the Flash Swap. Tried it just now... but the tokens I want are not available using this.
I did cancel the Limit Order though... so I got my Tether back. Not sure how to do it right but it seems spot trading in pairs is the only way to get that particular token.

I don't think they have a market order shortcut as well... if you wanna do that, just place a buy order higher than the current market price. Say market price is $1, place it at $1.5. Don't worry, you won't be buying at a higher price because the better order will be matched for you which is at the current market price.

There is Star Atlas DAO (POLIS) https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/star-atlas-polis/markets/ and its listed on Gate.io and there is also another POLIS. Careful which one you would buy.

I have tried gate when I was trading ZERO as it was first listed in gate when it started, I hurriedly register to buy, they being KYC right away.  DAO is becoming a good investment but its still an altcoin.

Not sure I follow. But I tried Limit Order again before reading your post. If this doesn't work I will try what you suggested. Also contacted Gate again.

Tiny amount as you can see, I don't really care about the token anymore... I want to make this work so that next time there is an opening I can use Gate.

If you want the buy order to be executed immediately, increase your buy price. As you can see on the screenshot, the cheapest POLIS that's being sold is $0.5799. Place your buy price at the cheapest sell price or higher.

It's clearly $0.53. Price is now $0.58 but 24 hours ago when I set the order it would have been below $0.53 .
Maybe you just read the chart in a different place, I don't see the price history of the POLIS ever touching back $0.53 after going to $0.58.

I still got nothing on my account, and even my Tether is gone now because it's assumed I want to go through with that order. So basically I lost my Tether and never got the POLIS token I wanted.
Your USDT just changed status to "in order", it doesn't really go away. Try to check the balance overview.

I don't know how much you want to trade with that coin. You seem like the typical trader who welcomes KYC policies. You should be able to choose an exchange that has a better trading volume.

Okay... so this is a bit like "bidding" for the token ? The higher your bid, the higher your chance of getting it sooner ? But that means in times of high volatility you may end up paying a much higher price than the current market value...

Actually, I am almost exclusively using DEXs these days... Gate happened to have 2 of the tokens I could not find anywhere else, so I signed up with them. I could have signed up with FTX but their KYC is a bit trickier to get past, whereas with Gate the sign up process including KYC only took about 2 hours.

Finally got it ! Took me three attempts but it seems the order went through ! Never used "Limit Order" before... I guess you learn something new every day ! Following some advice on this thread I raised the price, from $0.61 ( current market price ) to $0.63. It worked !

I mean, yes — by buying you're literally bidding.

But that means in times of high volatility you may end up paying a much higher price than the current market value...
See the red numbers on the right on your screenshot? Those are the sell offers. You can literally see the price of the tokens being sold by people.

No, because you have placed an order based on the limit price. Volatility means the price movement is more massive than usual due to the high volume of orders.

Congrats on your successful trading using the new order method, LOL.
There are actually several more order methods on spot market that can help you execute orders under certain conditions such as OCO and Stop-limit, especially when you are not monitoring the market.
