Title: power supply for GPU rig
Post by: jeemomart on July 26, 2022, 12:44:39 PM
Hi,

can anyone explain how many 3060ti cards i can run in one 2000W power supply? this also included Motherboard.

If i want to run 8x3060ti, how many total power supply watts i need? which PS brand is more stable and less noise in the fan?

regards

less noise? 8x GPU's make more noise than any PSU, so noise doesn't matter in my opinion :D
2000W is enough for 12x 3060ti.
Brands: Corsair, Evga and Seasonic only or server power supplies. Avoid Bequiet - in 25 years of being a pc nerd, all newly bought bequiet power supplies have died.

https://www.newegg.com/evga-supernova-1600-p-220-pp-1600-x1-1600-w/p/N82E16817438232?

279 decent platinum psu. 1600 watt

you can set all gpus to 125 watts 8 x 125 = 1000 and another 100 for fans and mobo

means 1100 of 1600.

so 8 gpus  could work. and do about 57-61 mh each.

that psu can be registered and then will have a 10 year warranty.

also evga.com may have it for lower cost than 270

Watch out for those 2000W "mining" PSUs, they're garbage. There's no such thing as a mining PSU, it's just marketing.
Most quality ATX PSUs top out at 1600W, for anything bigger you need a server PSU.

With 9 PCI-e of this GPU, would be easy to mount and maintain 8 RTX 3060ti without splitters or 2PSU adapter
10 year warranty same as Corsair, nothing to complain.

And will be using less than 80% of PSU - Platinum haha

I wish stores here in have some piece to sell, but there's only 1000w here maximum

I consider the power consumption of each video card from the wall is 150 watts and the power consumption of the motherboard with the processor is 100 watts.
A 1600 watt gold or platinum power supply would be a good choice. But if new coins for dual mining appear, and the video card consumes 30-40 watts more, then this power will not be enough.

8 x 119 watt is 952 watt at making like 59-60 Mhsh and not 60-61 Mhsh,I think it is better to save 1Mhsh and keep the rig running cooler and stable.I have measured also at the wall and I saw that a Rtx 3060 ti plus the board and other things was like 220-230 watt which means the card is like 115-120 watt,so for the board and cards you can run them at 1062 watt all 8 of them, and as such even a 1300 Platinum Corsair Psu would do the job but the best is to use 1500-1600 PSU top brand and 94% Platinum rated in order to be safe and keep the rig operating for as much time as possible.Nice choice going with the 3060 ti as this is for me the most efficient card out there so far.
