Title: Mining in Lebanon
Post by: Mitch212 on September 05, 2022, 12:53:55 PM
Hello everyone,

I'm from Lebanon and I was thinking to start mining, I know ETH is switching soon to POS but it would still be worth it to mine ETC and Raven?

Here we got a huge electricity outage, so I was thinking to install solar panels and inverters just for the mining rig, what do you suggest me?

On top of that would you recommend me to go with GPUs or an ASIIC

thank you for taking time reading this

I don't know what is current electricity rate in your country but if you are living in an area with very cheap electricity then it would be a good choice if you buy ASIC units except if your current electricity rate is above $0.15. ASIC units are power-hungry compared to GPU mining. So it depends on your current location if you have a cheap electricity rate.

If you already decided to buy ASIC there are some cheap offers from Canaan here https://shop.canaan.io

I don't know how you plan your setup, but it may worth keeping in mind that ASICs are very noisy devices.
So if you plan to do this at "home" scale, and actually at home, ASIC may be a problematic choice.

On the altcoins mining part I cannot advise, that you may want to ask in altcoin mining sub.

its around 0.04-0.06 depends where I live but electricity is cheap, plus I wanted to install solar panels just for the rig

You are right I would stick to GPU since i can resell them easier later on if I need to, and yes its going to be in my house

And given all of that, this now belongs in the Altcoin (Mining) area (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=160.0) - not here which is only for BTC topics.

Have you calculated the cost of buying solar panels? If I'm not wrong there is a discussion in the past that generally says the solar panel is expensive and is not worth the cost to power your mining rig, since it will need a lot of panels to power one rig while also depending on the weather for the energy. Mitch212, I recommend that you wait a bit. There are approximately 7 days left before the end of Ethereum mining.
What does huge electricity outage mean? How many times a day do you have power outages and how long does it last? This is not very good for mining.

I recommend the same and I find it strange that you have problem with electricity in a place where the cost of it is cheap. If you have a 0.04 dollars energy price then whichever one you choose is going to be profitable, both ASIC-s and GPU mining rigs. For the GPU-s you will have more choices and flexibility, flexibility in the sense that you can easily move to another algorithm to mine and also to expand or shrink your rig (by adding or removing GPU-s) as you see fit for different situations you may be in.

The merge is almost here, anyone planning to build a mining rig right should stop and wait for few more days, you will be able to adjust your plans if needed, don't go and buy something that you will later regret, you should build your rig according to the results after the merge.

The sun doesn't shine 24 hours per day, even in the desert. ROI is automatically more double on the mining equipment, not including the cost
to build the solar array.
