 The Bitcoin academy, which is the brain child of Twitter and Cash App founder, Jack Dorsey and world renowned musician, Jay-Z also known as Shawn Carter was launched in 2022 with the aim of eliminating illiteracy, empowering the public with knowledge of Bitcoin and also the benefits one can get when it's applied financially.
 
 Jay-Z has decided to take Bitcoin to his hood as he grew up in New York and partnering with Dorsey, they've been able to make residents at the Marcy Houses and this initiative is in conjunction with the @cryptoplug3 and @BlkBTCBillions
 
Dorsey believes this act could inspire people to understand how powerful a financial tool they have in their hands to help them understand financial freedom..
 The aim of funding the program is not only to understand or educate them about Bitcoin, but also teach them the importance of relating it to their economy.

 This initiative which started in June 22, 2022 was to run for at least three months to end on Sept 7th but with promises to spread to other parts of the neighborhood as it was initially exclusive to residents of the Marcy Houses complex.
And to cap it off, the educational initiative ended with a gift of $1000 in Bitcoin to the participants and these where received through the Cash App and muun wallet. Way to go, Jay and Jack!!

Absolutely great initiative, it is important to spread the word of btc to as many people as possible, especially the usability aspect of btc not just the price speculative part.
It is important to try change the narrative and the mindset of most new comers coming in with the sole purpose of making money within a short period. Btc is more than just an asset to hold for certain period and sell off, the earlier people start getting it that btc is payment option which can serve them well the better and perhaps the less the speculation and volatility.
In addition, more btc pioneers should introduce similar initiative to help spread and promote btc far and wide.

I really like seeing things like this. People with money / BTC doing good things with it and promoting it and educating people about it.
Now, I also fully understand that part of it is that if BTC does well they also do well, but there are other big name people in the crypto world that you can tell are just in it to make a buck and run.

This shows how to promote it for the long term.

The character of the initiative relates to Jay-Z as he has lived part of his life in the Marcy Houses, but it is nice to see some of the educational initiatives.
The link did not indicate the number of people who benefited from these lessons and whether it was related to the economy or Bitcoin in general, and it was not set free for all.

All Jack Dorsey did was send money withing Cash App

This type of deal also happened with Ukraine as well, they opened up a crypto account and send the address via twitter and people donated 100+ million dollars to them. With that in mind, I doubt that it would be anything different, it is actually quite true and reasonable because it is how the money exchanges hand.

What I really want to point out that, you could be anywhere in the whole world, and help these people because it is bitcoin, doesn't require you to be in the same nation as them. Most people couldn't send like 5 bucks for example, it is small amount but when you consider 5 million people all sending 5 bucks, that would be a big amount eventually.

I guess there will be more participants when the people close to the location sees that there's a giveaway like around $1k worth of bitcoin.

But this is a noble move for these two because they're helping in spreading the word about bitcoin and using the resources that they have. I think that this should be for most of those enthusiasts that have the capacity in doing it.

They're just doing this out of their kindness and helping to spread the word and with the reason of minimizing illiteracy.

I also commend this kind of initiative from them, at least they are doing something good for others.
The truth is, there are more people that can afford to do this kind of activity, but they prefer not to.
We need more people like them, not only in btc or crypto, but hopefully, even fiat donators.
After all, we don't need much money to have a simple and contented life.
But most people want to accumulate riches as much as they want.

Jay-Z is worth billions if I'm not mistaken, so yeah, good initiative for people with huge money and not just being a philanthropist, but using BTC to spread awareness about it and targetting the less fortunate people in America.

Of course, they might have some narrative behind, specially Jack Dorsey, but you can't removed it from them by helping and educating them on what bitcoin and crypto can bring to them in the future if they will just know how to manage it. And this is just the first step.

This is really amazing initiative taken by Dorsey and being bitcoin optimist he is always trying to develop new ways to promote its adoption which is good.These educational steps for the community awareness and uplifting of the people with some sort of charities as well is really nice and appreciated move and we need these kinds of things.

People who have billions are trying to help many but not all of them so it's a great thing on Jay-Z part as well and moreover people will come to know about financial freedom also through bitcoin.

Such a great cause which will really help the needy. A really great cause & kudos to Dorsey & Jay-Z for having the conviction & heart to do something like this.

There are seemingly still some good people left on this earth.

Anything for a good education courses about bitcoin is good. And to add that Jack Dorsey and Jay-Z is sponsoring it? much better.

And I think more will be interested if they hear and understand financial freedom. And maybe they can set themselves as an example on how to get it, but this time it will be through the help of bitcoin and hopefully someone will appreciate and will used the knowledge and the money they got and invest on it.

Those people that can afford to do the same and not prefer to do it, they have the rights to reject sort of activities because they're not obliged to.

They have no obligation about spreading information and that's why they are focusing in other things. And that's why for people like Jack and Jay Z and the others that are unnoticed doing such activities, it's really a noble thing to have this way of giving back to the people.

Jayz is a highly influential and wealthy person especially in the music industry,so taking Bitcoin education to his hood will be embrace by his people. I love his initiative,if Bitcoin awareness can be spread to people by everyone who knows its importance, then in no time the whole world will all be in the crypto ecosystem. Bitcoin education is the best way to prepare and mentor people into Bitcoin adoption as an alternative currency, and bringing this kind of innovation to the hood where Jay Z grows up is the best possible way to reach out to his immediate community. I guess some other prominent names in and around the world will take up similar initiatives to improve the knowledge and build the individual capacity of those living within and outside their immediate community. So many members here have done similar things in the past or present, and again the 1000 dollars in Bitcoin is another way to make the participants get more involved in practical terms. I was wondering if the Academy issues participants and certificates.

I believe it’s great when wealthy celebrities such as Jay-Z and Jack Dorsey give back to the community and truly show their generosity. This is also awesome that more and more companies and wealthy celebrities are doing this because it brings more awareness to the people receiving bitcoin.

As time goes by, I could see in the near future more social media companies gifting bitcoin to their users, employees, and partners.

We could say the statement they made was "you learn - you earn". I would've participated for sure.

It's a great idea, they should continue in other parts of the country as well, especially in the poor neighborhoods to show people they can make their money much safer and be part of a a new era in finances.

I agree with the previous comments in thanking them for this initiative and in thinking that the publicity they do with this gesture will be good for Bitcoin. On the downside, it is not clear to me that it will have a very good practical result. If those who receive the $1k are people of humble classes, most likely they will end up spending it soon, after switching to fiat. But better that than nothing.
