Title: Cryptocurrency should be infused to academic systems
Post by: Bruce4 on October 17, 2022, 05:29:31 AM
Cryptocurrency should be adopted as a course of study in academic systems worldwide, from basic classes, through the higher institutions.
Cryptocurrency should be taught to little children at tender age and implemented/approved for basic transactions within academic environments to improve knowledge and usage, spread and utility of cryptocurrency to ensure safer and smarter transactions as well as to enlighten the students as kids and adults on the utility, conservation, spread and improvement of cryptocurrency.
It should also be made known that knowledge of Cryptocurrency is a form of empowerment to the young ones and adults.

Fear of being defrauded or scammed
Stories of people being ripped of their cryptocurrency through false investment links and scam websites
Lies of mining websites.

While Cryptocurrencies/ Bitcoin are being taught in schools, Privacy also shouldn't be over looked at, Children should be taught in every possible way to keep and guard those seed phase.
Childhood should be fund though, most parents wouldn't want to accept this but for the sake of the future, then they need be taught.

Academic systems are developed in such a way to provide quality education through which students can have stability in life and better career opportunities. More the skills developed thyself will help them open more doors of opportunities. For now it is too early to make cryptocurrency education mandatory. For now crypto have got majority usage as an investment and trading asset than a real currency.

With time the increasing usage of cryptocurrency and acceptance will let the kids learn of their own. Just think of the traditional currency used. No one teach them how it need to be spend and used. Everything they learn out of their parents using it, same way usage of cryptocurrencies will be learnt by them.

Sometimes learning directly on the internet is much more useful than in school.
Including cryptocurrency in academic education in schools will only add to the burden on children because there is more to learn which in the end is not very useful when they enter the world of work.

You cannot educate people on a new technology, if that technology are not clearly defined in the financial system. Some countries define Crypto currencies as a Commodity and some countries define it as a Commodity. Their regulations and laws are not even been finalized yet, so it is difficult to bring that into the education system.

The current education system are based on old school Fiat guidelines and they are not going to accept change, because those old farts are in control of those systems. (The younger generation will bring the change in the future)  ::)

Cryptography itself been exist for long time.

But specifically a course regarding the cryptocurrency / bitcoin are not really become a focus in any university .. we have witnessed that a lot high caliber university such as harvard have a blockchain technology course in their computer science curriculum. So it's been there tho.

There is another new similar topic about this: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5416732.0

Members' on bitcointalk have discussed about this in that topic and i also think in many other topics that i don't know about, some have agreed and others have disagreed with reasons they think is correct, opening another similar topic of discussion is not going to get crypto 'infused' into the academic system, if you think it should be brought into the academic system then you should start making a move in your country, write to the appropriate organizations that are in control of making that kind of change, then you can post about the effort you have made to make crypto a part of academic discipline in your country.

How about teaching basic financial literacy in public schools instead?

Most countries in the world don't give their kids and students an adequate (if any at all) teaching about money management, saving money, how money works, how to make more money, etc. and the result is that you got a bunch of unemployed broke people angry at the government for failing them, because that's what we taught them in schools (what they call "social studies").

Cryptocurrency should be adopted as a course of study in academic systems worldwide, from basic classes, through the higher institutions.

This is good and fine considering that only if government will lay their supportive hands in the process and what us the first step to this is by adopting bitcoin, else countries that can make this included in their schools curriculum have to start with the ones that have adopted bitcoin and El-Savador is a good example, they have launched this related approach and have books to educate people on bitcoin, another way that can boost the inclusion of bitcoin in schools curriculum is through the private sectors, those are the set of individuals and corporate body that make inclusion of bitcoin in their subjects of study at all academic levels.

I disagree mainly because the topic doesn't fit in the existing system. Each aspect is either too specialized or doesn't need a course in academia. For example the technical aspects (cryptography, network, database, etc.) are special topics and are already general meaning they can only be taught to programmers and some of them already are. The other aspects are general too like the economical aspect of bitcoin as a currency or altcoins are risky useless version of penny stocks.

I too disagree here! Cryptocurrency is not something very feasible for basic classes to understand. Also it's a very new technology and it is still going through that innovation phase where everything is very dynamic. The entire cryptocurrency market is not very structured yet. So trying to put in into a formal mode of education, may pass wrong information to the future generations.

However, it can be added for the higher studies as an optional subject where the students have attained some financial maturity.

We all know things about this technology and industry in general but is it really an enough reason to 'make it a course' or 'subject'? 'coz I would agree more if it will be discussed on invetment and economy related subjects as a sub-topic but nothing much. This technology is still undergoing growth procedures and developments, so I guess things would be 'wasted' a bit when its 'final phase' has been reached, right? And even if it has reached its peak, I still don't understant its relevance to academe or as a profession. Indeed, it is profitable and it has many advantages over FIAT but the mere fact inconsistency occurs and is present in this technology, we would be exposing people to risks.

Yes it could be learned, that's why it is being pushed to the academic systems but if you're aware of 'Monte Carlo Fallacy', 'innate frustrations of an individual', 'drive for revenge' and such, for sure many people would get this point.

I prefer people to join dedicated forums rather than get lessons in schools which are generally a bit "closed". Bitcoin is a new thing that requires a really competent teacher.
In addition, formal education is usually tied to policies and learning systems cannot deviate from the syllabus distributed by government educational institutions. The concern is, especially in countries where counter cryptocurrencies will only bring negative doctrine to students while teachers don't care.

I think you are in too much of a hurry. Until bitcoin is accepted by official regulators, all innovations will be in vain. In addition, information about bitcoin is becoming more and more popular, and it is possible to get full knowledge about it at any time when there is a desire. Young people can easily learn from available sources, and as you know, we are more responsible for what we have a real interest in and not for what the school curriculum obliges us to study. Allow everyone to choose whether they want to learn about bitcoin.

I think cryptocurrency has a long way to go before it can be adopted into academic curriculum. However private institutions have the liberty and flexibility to adopt cryptocurrencies into their course curriculum. Personally I think the best place to learn tech related courses are in bootcamps. It's cheaper than going to regular school to study for four years and also students in bootcamps can learn at their own pace.

I think the adoption of cryptocurrency will determine if it will be added in the academic systems.
Most countries are yet to welcome the use of cryptocurrency for payment so I believe that until cryptocurrency is generally accepted it will be difficult to be accepted as a study in academics.

I think I will rather encourage teaching basic financial education in public schools as NotATether suggested because it will go a long way in reducing the high rate of unemployment after graduation to students than teaching cryptocurrency in school when the government is yet to see the benefit of financial freedom.

Learning cryptocurrency from an early age is important so that young people understand the growing payment technology. Cryptocurrencies are currently still part of other studies and are included in the study of economics and not entirely about cryptocurrencies in detail. It also depends on how the regulations in each government are, whether they allow the use of crypto or not.
but I think, if it has to be inputted into the academic study system, there will be many positive responses that will come and of course make children's knowledge more developed about cryptocurrencies, so that it's not just some news that they know, they will know the good and bad of cryptocurrency.

From this sentence:
Cryptocurrency should be adopted as a course of study in academic systems worldwide, from basic classes, through the higher institutions.

I understand that you imply cryptocurrency, as concept, should be subject for education in an academic field. However, later you name ways one can lose money if involved in buying cryptocurrency:
Fear of being defrauded or scammed
Stories of people being ripped of their cryptocurrency through false investment links and scam websites
Lies of mining websites.

This isn't the kind of education I expected. Sure, technical aspects should be taught, but the academy isn't going to make individuals responsible. "Investing" in scams does not reveal anything other than you're financially irresponsible.

Now as for the topic: In which field should it fit? Informatics? Economy? Finance? Politics? Society? Philosophy? Bitcoin isn't just a currency.  ;)

While we wait for cryptocurrency to be included in our academic system which may take a while as crypto is still fighting for acceptance on a mainstream, we can first become academics to the young people around us and try to educate them about cryptocurrency just as some members of this forum have been doing for some time now. It takes little resources to arouse interest in people, and knowing that waiting for the people in charge of reviewing educational curriculum to add cryptocurrency to academics may mean waiting for a long time, we can start today to play our part before the government.

Economics I suppose. It's not the most interesting subject for kids but if given the most enthusiastic teacher given then the frame of reference about how BTC becomes a tool in giving people freedom, it will be interesting.

Eshops will introduce them to cryptocurrencies. Kids in the future are going to have access to crypto as it will be used in daily lives in buying stuff, I think it's not such a bad idea to introduce them to BTC.

Cryptocurrency should be taught to little children at tender age

How to make crypto sound like a cult in one simple step

Cryptocurrency should be adopted as a course of study in academic systems worldwide, from basic classes, through the higher institutions.

Why should we teach young people about a payment method at best, ponzi scheme at worst? Do we teach kids in school how to use PayPal? How to open a bank account? Why should crypto be treated differently?

Fear of being defrauded or scammed
Stories of people being ripped of their cryptocurrency through false investment links and scam websites
Lies of mining websites.

This is actually not a bad idea, it can be incorporated into some economics lessons or computer science lessons.

It all relies on the country they are, from my point of view coupled with the max spread of cryptocurrency pupils already aware of it but should be a matter of paying more attention to develop the feeling to study more about the steps involved. Lets say, you and I weren't taught about it only from information we hear around and making use of our google to search and study, so is applicable to children nowadays as parents you owes the obligation to tutor and enlighten your kids about formation of cryptocurrencies we must not wait for government or educational system to start educating our kids about cryptos. What if your country or their countries ban anything related crypto how do you think kids and pupils would get to know of it?

It's a good idea though, but I don't think it gonna be possible right now for University to start adopting and implement it in their educational system as it's still new. First of all, before this could be implemented, cryptocurrency must have been first adopted by various Government of the world and have been properly regulated by SEC or CFCT before we start talking about including cryptocurrency courses in academic curriculum or our educational system in various academic institution around the world.

It would be very difficult or impossible to have the government of a nation have it in its school curriculum through through academic calendar, a system for which they don't fully believe in or support. How is that going to happen and what will that make the government. That theuvae fighting against cryptocurrency and still, they approve it to be taught in school for a course or need to know in education. I don't see that happening with cryptocurrency yet to have a foothold in the government itself.
It would have been a nice idea anyway and some crypto enthusiast on the forum are already carrying it out remotely.

It’s certainly a good start for cryptocurrency to be adopted and included in schools curriculum and will be taught in the innocent and young minds of the students. However, we cannot expect this to happen today without the support of the government. But hopefully in the future it will as cryptocurrency courses will be a great help for students to develop their early skills about money management and financial planning and giving them more knowledge and insights about blockhain that is very relevant today and in the years to come.

Ideally, yes, conditions like this should ideally occur in all countries.
But in reality? It won't be that easy.
There are many things that make cryptocurrencies accepted or not accepted, included or not included in the educational curriculum.
This will depend on the education system in a country and basically how cryptocurrency is viewed and legalized in that country.

In fact, crypto is one of the products of the times and technological developments, and we really need to build awareness of this development. However, the problem is that crypto itself has pros and cons in each country. So if it were to be incorporated into the educational curriculum, it would create some debate and possibly block agreement as well. Unless this becomes one of the materials and is taught in general only for initial knowledge, and is not the main focus of entry into the academic system, this is still possible. However, if it has to be included in the education system or curriculum as a whole, then in my opinion it will be very difficult to happen, especially in developing or underdeveloped countries.

When you speak of kids or children, how old are you referring to? Because if you are referring to small kids as in around 7 years old, how could they even appreciate cryptocurrency? Do they really care about cryptocurrency or even money? They probably don't. Some are proposing that but I don't agree. Teach them science, math, literature, etc instead. I think crypto should be taught to high school and college students. Spare the elementary pupils.

Idk, crypto sounds like it could fit in a few subjects, if it was as a method of payment then I don't think it's needed, pretty sure my school did not teach me how to use money. If it's integrated in the system people would naturally learn of it imo. I also doubt it could be taught as an investment since there are a LOT of investments out there, never seen a school teach about those. The development side might be interesting though it's rather specific ig? It's more like a project kind instead.

I think it's not necessary, our child doesn't need to know much about cryptocurrency, it's not important. what they should know is basic, they don't need to learn calculus, physics, chemistry and etc, our child does need to learn basic mathematics; addition, multiplication and etc. So in this case, what should our child learn is Blockchain, not cryptocurrency.

I seems not to understand this very statement of yours. Do you mean "fund" i.e money or "fun" i.e to play, because if it is to play then i think it is a basic necessity of every  child to play, but when it comes to money, it is the responsibility of parents to carter for that, but that doesn't mean they can learn even while they play. And in regards to the topic in question, i think it will be more better if children are educated about the basic knowledge of blockchain technology in general and not been only specific about Bitcoin, as that will serve as an edge into exploring more into the world of cryptocurrency.

That should not be directly specified within cryptocurrency specialization, instead, those kinds of things are basic digital literacy skills.

They must be taught to use digital tools yet understand the consequences if they use them without understanding full awareness within that kind of aspects. And to note, guarding seed phrase isn't merely on privacy sector but security. Generally, not everything must be related to cryptocurrencies, there is a basic skill that is essential, which has more urgency to be taught.

Yeah! the cryptocurrencies are too complex if you put them in today in school rather it should be just enough to have a course for whoever wants to learn it. More likely the children will just gonna get bored with it because they still don't understand it well. right now, it is not befitting for schools but good for colleges and some groups that wanted to further expand the popularity of cryptocurrencies, they can conduct free seminars and make them open to all.

First of all I would like to see what is money in the books instead of how great the cryptocurrency and decentralization.

In most places even the countries with high education standard don't have finance as a basic subject in the curriculum, all they tell us we should save money, get a good degree, get a better job then enjoy your retirement with the all savings but in reality no one can have millions in their account if they work and save.

The importance of investment and how to multiply the money, etc is more mandatory than teaching about Bitcoin.

I think today's children will be smarter to keep up with the times to learn about cryptocurrencies, just like digital money which is currently widely used in my country, without formal education many people can use it. I think because it can be used legally in a country, but I think what is taught in formal education is from a business perspective, because crypto can make money if we have knowledge about it

If every society can make use of it, this will be a very welcome development. However, people have diverse perspectives and are constantly looking for a way out of situations that will not be advantageous while also being outside of their control. Do you think that the use of cryptocurrencies has already been outlawed in many nations? If so, why do you suppose that is? And now since this should be emphasized in the curriculum of schools starting at a young age, they will also perceive it as a detrimental move toward what they were initially trying to avoid.

Why should we teach young people about a payment method at best, ponzi scheme at worst? Do we teach kids in school how to use PayPal? How to open a bank account? Why should crypto be treated differently?

I agree with you, but maybe in the event that it is branded as a Ponzi scheme, not real but fictitious, a tool for criminality, etc., educating students about it in school will significantly lessen the negative connotations attached to it by many people, and we'll witness a generation free from the belief that bitcoin is not a tool for bringing harm to society.

School just cannot explain what economy is to children, for 2 main reasons. First of all, if we knew how money works, then we wouldn't go to jobs and work for money, we would let the money work for us, the moment we have even just a little bit, we would all gang up and make it work for us, we have seen a similar situation with GME and wallstreebets.

However, there is also even a bigger thing which is the fact that if we knew how money works, then the rich people at the top cannot rule us, so they need us to not understand it and think it’s too risky to get in, but not doing it is even riskier because we live a poor life. So, education on economy can't be in schools to protect their investments.

I heard that some countries already started infusing bitcoin and cryptocurrency into their education system. I read it also that Argentina and El Salvador are some of these countries. But I think there are already many new financial books that are used at school that included bitcoin and cryptocurrency in it. It may not be a course or a subject but it's becoming part of any financial books. In my country, our central bank ex-governor and our current secretary of Finance admitted how powerful cryptocurrencies are and that they will be the future.

Cryptocurrency and blockchain have been infused into the academic systems in the US and EU. Besides, some of the Universities that infused crypto and blockchain into their educational system offer online free courses. However, I never agree with the idea of cryptocurrency being adopted into the tender-age educational system.
I suggest adding C++ learning to the tender age school level which will help their brain and also serve as pre-preparation of them into the crypto and blockchain world.

According to a 2019 Coinbase report (https://www.coindesk.com/markets/2019/08/28/coinbase-study-says-56-of-top-50-universities-have-crypto-classes/), 56% of top universities in the world have crypto classes. They surveyed 735 students ages 16 and older, finding a 6 percent uptick in student interest in crypto or blockchain coursework. One interesting thing they found about the study is the percent of crypto or blockchain classes not falling under the traditional computer-science label. Coinbase said 70 percent of these classes pertained to other departments – particularly finance, economics, law or engineering. So OP, you see the Universities are already at the forefront. Some time ago, some users on this forum shared their stories of teaching school kids about cryptocurrency and bitcoin in particular. I agree that this lessons should be done in structured manner.

It is not a bad idea including blockchain technology in school curricular activities but consideration should be taken and proper evaluation be done in the age of the learner in assimilating the knowledge of blockchain.
The kids or children if you may like can not be able to comprehend the dynamics of blockchain at their tender age though kids of this generation are much smarter but age factor should be considered as well. They can be enlightened about Blockchain and be given just the basic fundamentals of it but not digressing too much if it for their easy understanding.

The adults are matured enough to understand so they can be taught about blockchain. So therefore  here comes the building and working on knowledge. It is assumed adulthood starts from 18 so at that age one can be able to assimilate what ever they are being taught in school. This would be the right age to teach blockchain to them. Looking at the school aspect of it, let's say from the secondary level would be nice to start with as that would be the best point to start with.

Technology have got big role in keeping everything advancement. The education is the core that have changed the lifestyle and living situation of the people. This way education can be effectively used on the betterment of the society. However bitcoin into educational curriculum isn't needed for the small kids. Let them play the outdoor games and find new friends. At some point there'll be need of crypto education. By that time it can be done.
I think you are off a bit about giving the details since teaching the technology or about science might not be appropriate to the kids yet and that goes the same with the cryptocurrency. Kids and adults are different although if we talk about putting the cryptocurrency subject to the school it might not be helpful with them since cryptography isn't something they wanna learn but instead if school would teach them how to invest properly or trade it might be useful. I found the idea a bit not fitting if their point was to just teach how cryptocurrency works.

No, you can't get kids from elementary school (even middle school) to learn the complexities of blockchain and cryptocurrencies. They better learn about the basics of mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, language, and communication. Not everyone has to enter or understand how Blockchain technology is; some of them have to be doctors, pilots, chefs, farmers or even athletes.

But instead of put Blockchain and cryptocurrency into the academic systems; why not recommend online courses to them? There are many websites to learn Blockchain and cryptocurrencies such as Udemy (https://www.udemy.com/), Decrypt (https://decrypt.co/learn), Blockchaininstitute (https://blockchaininstitute.com/), and others.

Look to the United States scores for math and reading comprehension- if you have not looked, they are dismal.  If they can not teach math or reading, forget about crypto.  But hey, at least the genderbread person is being crammed up everyones ass as they get dummed down.

It should also be made known that knowledge of Cryptocurrency is a form of empowerment to the young ones and adults.
Indeed, the knowledge of cryptocurrencies is an empowerment to who ever bears or acquires the knowledge, this is why I personally agree that it would bring great benefit to the society if bitcoin and blockchain can be taught in schools.

But on the other hand, there is no way Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies can be officially taught in schools without approval from the government, and for this approval to happen, regulation must happen first.
This is my thought on this, I am open to to disagreements and arguments.
