Title: WhatsApp is down worldwide

When your WhatsApp is playing up but you went to Twitter and see that everyone else is having the same problem, nothing really feels better than that 😂😂😂

Funny enough, Facebook messenger - while both WhatsApp and FB are part of Meta - does work for me (or at least it did 1h ago, when WhatsApp didn't).

PS. This is more suitable for Off-topic

This has been the second time WhatsApp was not working worldwide that I noticed. The last that happen took over several hours before it started to work during the time and I saw many people joining Telegram. This one here only last for minutes, or maybe more, but now working properly again.

Wow 😳 I didn't notice and spend most of my time on WhatsApp. 2hem was that?

A lot of the features actually still worked as far as I'm aware as I received notifications before then and things still loaded fine from them but I wasn't online at the time to actually see it being offline.

This feels like it's quite normal for a lot of big apps and social media these days. Discord is really bad for going offline too and the fact it was only an hour of downtime is quite impressive for meta (Facebook went away for ages after the last issues they had with it).

Further proof that centralized platforms are not good. There are many more better, more secure, better encrypted p2p chat platforms.

Whatsapp is in bed with the feds, don’t use it.

Ever since Facebook bought WhatsApp, I no longer use WhatsApp as it is not secure or private to communicate. Whereas the Signal App on the other hand includes a similar interface, one-to-one chat, group chat, file transfers, photos, voice calls, and video calls which are end-to-end encrypted.

Only the people involved in the chat can view them which always give me that extra feeling of privacy. End-to-end encryption happens between the individual phones that are using the Signal App.

Even the company that operates Signal App cannot see these messages even if they wanted to.  This is because Signal created its own encryption protocol for this.

during that event I experienced it for about 3 minutes, and it returned to normal. At first I panicked and finally calmed down. I was wondering why this could happen, and it turned out that after knowing that WhatsApp had indeed been down for more than 1 hour, and I only realized it at the last seconds.
