Title: [Merit]Submit an APPLICATION For a CHANCE To EARN MERITS!
Post by: nakamura12 on October 26, 2022, 04:50:06 PM
I know that celebrating my birthday here in Bitcointalk forum is off-topic to start with. So, to make this thread belong in Beginners & Help. I decided to give or reward smerit (I won't tell the total of smerits I currently have) to Newbies up to Member rank. This thread is kinda a remembrance of some sort that I reach Hero Member rank and It's almost 1 year since I became a Hero Member (I celebrate ranking up to Hero Member on November 14, 2021 and I am also celebrating my birthday). Since there is an occasion, I would like to reward merit to those who deserves it. To receive or earn a merit from me is very simple and easy, all you have to do is follow the rules and format when you submit your entry. I will check post history of each participant.

Rules:
    • Accounts that are created after this thread is posted are not eligible to join.
    • Entry submitted that didn't use the format I provided won't earn a single merit.
    • Only Newbies, Jr. Members and Members, Full Members and Sr. Members are eligible to join/participate.
    • Only one entry can be submitted per week. (Depends if I still have smerit left next week)
    • I have the rights to change/add new rules.

Format:
Code:
Username: Nakamura12
Profile Link: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1726595
Rank: Hero Member

UPDATE: 6 SMERITS LEFT

This thread will be Self-moderated. If you submitted your entry more than once then other will be deleted.

I'm glad about your progress here on the forum. I don't want to ruin your business here, but...
You should know, everyone can check your profile on BPIP https://bpip.org/Profile?id=1726595 and determine that you have earned a total of 582 merits so far while you sent 267. with simple math, you had a total (582/2) 291 sMerit to spend. when we subtract those you have already spent (291-267) we arrive at the result that you have about 24 sMerit remainings. maybe even less if your profile is not completely updated yet.

maybe we'll agree that it's not too much of an amount to start this kind of initiative, there are already several similar threads but started by members who are merit sources and who constantly have a significantly larger amount of sMerit.
For example, [Merit] Help newbies and those who have a little left to the next rank (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5275032.0)

btw. happy birthday to you and be well.  ;)

This is good mate. I join others to celebrate your birthday with Love. But for the merit you are promising the three categories of Ranks for each week it  might not be achievable because from the calculation above you only have 24 Smerits left then how many applicants do you think will apply for this your promised. Unless you are expecting merit sources to bail you out. That not withstanding. I wish you all the best. Happy one year birthday.

Yes I do only have 24 smerits left. I did not create this thread just to send 24 smerits per week but to find a forum user who post high quality that did not get merited so, this is why I said that it may take longer before all of my smerits are sent. If you didn't get my point, let's say that last week I only found 5 worthy forum users to send merit then that means I still have more smerits left to reward this week. That's what I mean.

maybe we'll agree that it's not too much of an amount to start this kind of initiative, there are already several similar threads but started by members who are merit sources and who constantly have a significantly larger amount of sMerit.

Thank you very much. Anyway, I do have 24 smerits left and I agree with you that the amount of smerits I have is not too much for this thread but as you have known, there's no point in keeping smerits to myself. I haven't earned much merits myself that's why I decided to do this even though I didn't have much smerits to reward. Let's just say, congratulations to lucky 24.

Seriously? 5 worthy members of the forum ;D? You highly appreciate your merits. I'll tell you a little secret, and advise you to keep it simple. Why hoard? I doubt that all this time when you accumulated your merit, you did not come across good posts. In addition, you yourself rarely receive merit, and this also says something.
This whole circus would be suitable for someone who regularly receives merit and scatters merit after him.
Go to people with an open heart, don't be greedy, and it will come back to you a hundredfold.

PS, You found 5, but gave one. :) ???

Good that you are giving away merits as celebration on your birthday to low rank members but there are certain things which I should say about this particular thread of yours:

As said by @examplens above you only have 24 smerits to send across the forum and it would help 24 members in this thread if you dedicate all to them but can rise if you earn more by the time but what criteria you follow for the merits to be given? Like you are going to review all their post or simply reward anyone who reply here?

With the limited amount of smerits you have at this time you can simply dedicate them to some useful post on the forum as you will find lot of them here in this B&H board only instead of this thread and doing all the efforts as it will help you lot and no worries of hoarding the smerits with you.

With these unclear sets of rule you will see lot of newbies just spamming up the thread in hope of one merit only to rank upto junior rank member only so I think you should find the other approach in my opinion.

Great initiative and happy birthday dude. But it seems the merit you hold will be indeed less to a lot of users might go here to join your contest. Especially this post might get spam by a lot of newbies that will strive to receive merits from you. Why not find a similar thread and distirbute your remaining merits on their post. I think some have long time thread like this, like LoyceV and some merit sources which have a lot of smerits.

Happy birthday, congratulations on your one year as a legendary member in the forum. I love your inspiration to assist newbies to members rank on the forum today by giving out merits to them as your birthday gift. Birthday gift should be enough to meet up with the number of applications or let me say guests.

24 smerits is a small number for all three ranks in the forum, if all the mentioned rank applied don't you think that you will have more than 24 good post that is worth meriting. Maybe you didn't prepare for this act ever since,it just thought of it not quite long if not you would have kept more smerits to be more generous

That's good and it'll surely help those new members who didn't spot by merit sources.  But just make sure that they're worth it or deserved to have.
It might this was your plan why you're hoarding merit and as above said, you've 24 smerits to spend which I think it's good if you spread to all of them, 1 user 1 smerit.  In our local, you didn't have the plan to distribute there?  ;)

BTW, happy birthday, just take a break and give time to yourself.

Title: Re: [Merit]It's almost 1 year being a Hero Member (Also Celebrating My Birthday)
Post by: nakamura12 on October 27, 2022, 04:40:25 PM
It is a small number and you guys are right but it's all I have so that's why I will distribute what I have left. Actually, they can just participate anytime they want as long as the rank is within rhe required rank. I checked their post history and that's the time I will decide if I give or not. So far, there are few months old account with less post and the others are more on bounty reports. As what lovesmayfamilis said, I did encounter some forum users with good posts but I keep all smerits that I have for this celebration purpose. Honestly, I would like to give them merits but I decided to give lower rank a chance to earn merit. I don't get why it is unclear when the rules is you can only submit once to give others a chance to earn instead of sending to the same person.

Once again, 24 smerits is not making three ranks to rank up but a range which I will  accept or to give merit. In short, newbies, jr. members and member ranks have a chance to receive a merit from me if I think they deserve it.

Let me just say that this thread is a bit like or a bit the same as Report Unmerited Good post to merit sources but only newbies, jr. member and member ranks are eligible to join. Due to limited smerits, only giving 1 per user and those who already received can submit again next week for others to have a chance getting merit. Hope you guys get what I am trying to do. Anyway, thank you very much.

Mate. This is unachievable promise. Every newbie deserves to receive merit because at that stage or level let us assume that they are novice. So they ask questions. And if you really want to reward them with merit, you do it from the question. I can vividly remember my first two merits, it was from my question as a newbie.

So at the newbie level you can merit  a thread that the user try to explain something to encourage him in the forum not to give up on Bitcoin. And the newbie will be very happy. Therefore, if you are waiting for deserve newbie to merited I will say all deserve it and not all. What I mean, all the active, consistent ones that have spend 4-5 months in the forum deserve it.

You said per week. That is persistent reward in every week. Are you a merit source? Don't start a project that you can't complete.

I wish you all the best. Happy 1 year birthday.

You clearly miss my point here buddy.  It's already friday in forum's time zone which means next week is coming and those who I already merited can submit an entry again. I didn't say that I will give merit every week because I am not a merit source. I am only planning to send all smerits I have until all are sent. Also, it's not that I am celebrating being a hero member for almost 1 year but you can say that too but for this time it's the day I was born. There's no project to start with.

If you are not satisfied with answer or my point then I think this will suffice.

THIS IS A MERIT GIVEAWAY (Limited by 24 smerits in total)
    20 Smerits left.

While I want to congratulate OP on their birthday, let me quickly remind them that every year we add to our age is a reminder that we're slowly drawing close to our exit point (our graves). I know there are people who don't like being reminded of this sad fact. Well, that's just by the way.

OP, is there a way you can woo certain merit sources to your thread so as to argument your lean merit. 24 or 20 merit is hardly anything to raise a thread for. That's just my humble take.

Thanks but most of your post are weekly report for bounty campaigns which is not what I was looking for. I would like to send 1 but if I did then I am most likely to be supporting forum users who joined bounty campaigns and only posting bounty reports but if you did post just like this one then I will consider sending merit.

No worries. I don't really mind being reminded of it as it is fact and all of us will soon be going there even some didn't take long (bad incident). You are right that it's very small and I respect that but this is merely a giveaway where I can give merits to those who post here that I think they deserve it (if I think they are - using my own criteria for that matter). There's no point in hoarding smerits right? Then why not give. It is also all that I can send since I am not a merit source or a person who is good at contributing to the forum many many times to receive lots of merits to also share the smerits.

What happens next the moment you have exhausted your 24smerits to low-rank members of the forum? Will you lock the thread or keep it open for the continuity of meriting low-rank members, each time you have smerits?

A year's journey in this forum as a hero member till now is worth celebrating. Celebrating in this manner is commendable. I hope by this next year, you will celebrate your birthday as a legendary member of this forum

That's a good question. I will lock the thread but I would still send my smerits to low ranking members and also to higher ones. As of now, I still have 17 smerits left and if there's still not much participants then I will start including full members and sr. members in here so I can now spent all my smerits. As what lovesmayfamilis said that there are other forum members who are good posters that we may come across.

OP, I see that you are attracted to the small position of the source of merit ;D. In fact, this is a pleasant experience when you realize that you can help someone. But be careful. Some beginners are very cunning; they will write you a lot of praise in order to win you over and get one single merit, and after that, they will boldly go churn out bounty reports. I don't think it's helpful. It's promoting spam.
A lot of people before you were interested in helping, but after they realized that they were just being used You have already seen candidates who sing beautiful songs to you, but they have not read that you are celebrating. But soon you yourself will understand that noble deeds here on the forum often end in disappointment. However, I will add more merits to your case.

Congratulations on your birthday. But I wanna ask you a simple question.

This is a good initiative thread nakamura12, nice to give back to the community,
regarding "hoarding" sMerit - they will all be spent eventually and ita always good
to have "a few in the pocket" so to speak. Its nice to come across a post and have
the merit to reward ranther than the other way around.

nakamura12 can lock and unlock the thread as required.

FULL MEMBER RANKS CAN JOIN NOW. DIDN'T SEE DO MANY NEWBIES, JR. MEMBER AND MEMBER submitting their entry. As of now, still have 19 smerits to distribute. No point in hoarding smerits so that's the other reason why this thread is created. ENTRY still the same. Username or forum name, profile link and rank.

This is much more accurate as what I want to explain as I think he knows what I meant by that. I don't know if marykeller will check this thread again to read this. Anyway, thanks aoluain for the additional smerit to give. Since it's already another week and now I decided to include full member ranks as of now and merits will be given is 1-2 merits per. Reason for that is to let others have their try to get it from me.

It's so civil of you to include full member to the list of low rank members you are sending your smerit to. Happy birthday to you once more. Grow more in wisdom.

If that the case let me be the first to apply as a full member. Maybe I will be lucky enough to receive a merit from you as a full member ;D

Congratulation dear and happy birthday buddy, sorry its coming late i know how stressful it is to ranked up and not just only ranking up but as well being a Hero member is what everyone truly desired to have coupled with this period of time, keep the good job going and keep the forum clean as well.

Hoard merits is not a good idea besides it doesn't promotes or add any value him.

Thank you guys for the belated greetings though my day is already days behind which you guys know it is on October 26 but I really appreciate the greetings even if it's late. Since there's not much applicants in this thread even though I already included Full member rank to be eligible to participate in this giveaway. As of today, I just saw a sr. member who submitted an application even though sr. member are not allowed to join so, this time I decided to include or to let sr. members participate in this giveaway then I can finally send all my smerits. Although, this thread might be locked by me after all my smerits are sent or I won't lock the thread as to let other participants to submit an application even though I don't have smerits left but don't worry, once I have smerits again then I will surely come back to this thread to give merits to those I haven't merited yet. Check OP which I will update it later.

Hoard merits is not a good idea besides it doesn't promotes or add any value him.
Actually, hoarding smerits is not a bad idea in my own opinion especially for those who are not merit sources. Honestly, I am hoarding smerits for this purpose. I wouldn't be able to do this if I didn't hoard smerits but if you only hoard smerits and do nothing then I lt is a bad idea or not a good idea. There's nothing wrong with hoarding smerits as it doesn't affect people like making them lose their crypto or their security but if you are hoarding smerits then there's nothing you will get or you can get benefit from it. As what you can read after checking how many smerits you have then I know you have seen or read it in this forum that "There is no point in hoarding sMerit; keeping it yourself does not benefit you".

Once again, there's nothing wrong in hoarding smerits if you have a plan (for occasions, contest and more) which In my case is to start this thread to send the smerits as a reward after hoarding smerits.

Good luck

Thanks for the reminder Shamm. Anyway, I would also like to thank those who merited me in this thread especially lovesmayfamilis and Shamm because it means a lot to me and because of that I now have more than 24 smerits to reward the participants.

    <.....>
It's because there's not much of participants that join here and it is also the reason why I started sending 1-2 merits per participant instead of only 1 so that other participants have a chance to earn merit. The reason for giving only 1 merit is for me to be able to give merit to a total of 24 forum users which is why only 1 merit per person. By the way, thanks for the merits you sent and now I have another extra smerits to reward and for that I will also check some of your post and see if you deserve to get merit. After all, each of us have our own criteria in giving merit.

You didn't have much discussions with other forum users with different topics and base on your post history, you are most likely in games and round board and in gambling not that I don't want you to post there since it's your account. I only wanted to see other post that are in different boards that's all. Anyway, I can only send 1 merit and see if it will be different than before and also as an inspiration to be contribute more in this forum.

I don't know how long I didn't spend my time in bitcointalk to post, help, giving opinion, advices or join any discussion  but all that time is I only watch and read different threads here in this forum. I saw this thread of yours and there's only few people who submitted their application even if you already change the rank that are eligible to submit and application which is up to sr rank member. So this time, I will post here and see if I deserve a merit or two. I was wondering if you still have smerits left because you didn't post in your thread that you have run out of smerits.

I have checked your post history and I right you haven't posted for quite some time. I do have smerits left and I was waiting for more participants to submit their application for a chance to earn merit but sadly, no one posted here to submit an application until this thread is buried. I was surprised that you bump this thread and there is a reason why I didn't post if I have smerits left or not and also no post about running out of smerits. I will only post sooner or later when I don't have smerits left and lock this thread which is to avoid someone bumping this thread when I don't have smerits to reward. This will be bump and unlock in the future once I hoard enough smerits to reward. By the way, since you bump this and participate then I was thinking to change the thread title.

Here's two merits for you. I hope it will motivate you starting from this day on.

It seems that there other users who's online but only watching, reading and did not make a single post. We are a bit the same in my point of view because you didn't make any post but the difference is that you are online while am not. It is because I am focusing on my study as a college student. Well, an inactive forum user back to life. I have a hard time making a decision if I will reward you merits or not because of that reason. The second is, your account might be an alt account of someone or I may be wrong about it. Well, I decided to give you a chance and I will be checking your account to see if you will be online in this forum even though just for a little bit of time because I do understand why you are inactive for so long due to being college student and must focus on studying.

6 Smerits left until this thread will be LOCKED.

I won't cut it short by thanking you, you're not really a hero member, you're actually a real hero.  This incentive of yours is important and effective mainly for those who are in lower ranks.  Many have become junior members from newbies, many have been promoted from junior members to members after receiving your merit.  That's why we always need true heroes like you in our bitcoin forum.  Finally, I wish you a happy and prosperous life overall.

Thank you for those very kind words coming from you. I really appreciate it. Maybe some people will think that it got into my head that I am a real hero. I wouldn't say that I am the only hero here as I am going to say that we are all heroes in our own way and even you are also a hero. Why?, even though I'm no hero but you said it yourself and that's what makes you a hero too. A hero who comfort other people and give good messages and motivate othe people. As I have said earlier, you can be a hero in your own way.

Op made this thread on his own initiative to celebrate his success in upgrading to Hero members as well as sharing happiness with forum users coinciding with beautiful moments in his life (birthdays). Op is not a merit source, his remaining sMerit is very limited, he will gain additional sMerit if his Merit gain increases.
The Op initiative can encourage other contributors who have more sMerits to help anyone who is eligible for sMerit. Op has never promised to give total merit to users who are entitled to receive it, at least Op sincere intentions can help anyone cut the distance to a higher rank.
