Title: Is it really possible to quit on these reasons
Post by: Saisher on October 30, 2022, 09:55:19 PM
You can when you won a huge amount
There's a discussion here of a guy who won a huge amount but added that he is quitting gambling is it really possible, anyone here have done quitting after winning a huge amount

You can when you lose a huge amount
This is the most popular reason to quit have you done this only to come back

You can anytime you want
Do you have the power to do it anytime that you want.

You have to when you're wife tells you to
I know a lot of guys who quit gambling for good after their wives tell them to, do you know of someone, or at one time you are one of them.

Let's discuss this and thank you for participating.

In my opinion, you can quit anytime you want.
It is your will power and sheer determination that will guide you to change lifestyle.
Look for very good reason that you think can motivate you to change from your habits.
All the other individuals outside of you are just there to assist you with your change, but the main
actor of this change will be you only. If you decide to change, always remind yourself you are doing this for good.

If you are really putting yourself in the right mindset to quit, you can do it anytime. No money needed if you don't want to spend it. As long as you're sure that you don't have a gambling problem, then there's no reason why you can't have a bit of fun with it. If your gambling is causing financial problems, then it might be time to take a step back and reevaluate your relationship with the casino. That's why it's important to have fun and enjoy yourself in the process instead of trying to win big.

I think I'm familiar with the thread that you are referring and as I have said there, no, it might be difficult to quit because you win big, on the contrary, as per my experience, you wanted more and so you comeback and play.

You can when you lose a huge amount
This is the most popular reason to quit have you done this only to come back

Again, I will answer base on my experience, maybe I quit like a month or so after a huge lost. But when everything settles down, and I have a capital in my hand and totally rejuvenated, then I will go back again.

You can anytime you want
Do you have the power to do it anytime that you want.

Of course, it's all in our mind, maybe if you have enough push within you, might quit for good.

You have to when you're wife tells you to
I know a lot of guys who quit gambling for good after their wives tell them to, do you know of someone, or at one time you are one of them.

What if your wife is also a gambling?  :) it could be a very difficult situation for you and for her to stop gambling for good.

"You can when you won a huge amount"
This is not easy, rarely gamblers can do it. When winning big every gambler want more, and more. But not all people because it depends on the character too.
"You can when you lose a huge amount"
It's not that simple, even when loses huge amount at gambling, we will out of control and will try again next.
"You can anytime you want"
Honestly I can, because I doing a gambling with full awareness, but for addicts this is difficult.
"You have to when you're wife tells you to"
I don't believe this, because so far if the hobby is prevented it will be crazier.

when getting a big win a gambler is actually very difficult to stop gambling. because whatever happens as long as the gambler still has money and is tempted by something that makes him want to get into gambling again, surely he will return to gambling soon.
i say this because i myself have experienced when i got a big win from esports betting and after that i chose to stop for a few months from gambling but in fact i went back to betting tempted by the ongoing match and hoping to get a big win again (like greedy)

You can when you lose a huge amount
This is the most popular reason to quit have you done this only to come back
it's the opposite of a big win.
when gamblers have started to lose a lot of money from gambling they look restless and immediately stop not to gamble anymore. but it doesn't stop there. the gambler stops for a moment and thinks about recovering the losses from the gambling and in the end he will immediately sell the valuables he has to gamble again and return the previous losses without realizing that it will be even worse to lose more money.
(i think you better add some words "lost money and all valuables" i would prefer this)

You can anytime you want
Do you have the power to do it anytime that you want.
for this it seems difficult for some gamblers. as you said and i answered above. when a gambler gets a big win, he is even quicker to return to gambling, while a gambler who loses a lot of money will return to gambling by selling his valuables and hoping for his loss to come back.
so it's hard to say stop anytime i want before the money and valuables run out

You have to when you're wife tells you to
I know a lot of guys who quit gambling for good after their wives tell them to, do you know of someone, or at one time you are one of them.
some gamblers already have a wife and some do not have a wife. and i myself already have a wife who knows that i like to gamble.
when i gamble my wife knows what i'm doing and she doesn't want to limit my enjoyment. because my wife knows if i gamble just to fill my spare time after work.
but my wife once told me "you are free to play gambling but must know the minimum limit of money that must be bet, the minimum limit of your money runs out, immediately stop continuing tomorrow again"
so for this option i will not choose

Let's discuss this and thank you for participating.
i would choose the option "you can when you lose a big amount" but add a few words "and also all valuables"
for me the gambler will really quit after losing all his money and valuables. because if that has happened, surely the gambler will be depressed and immediately stop gambling

Very possible if you have the drive and the courage to do so. Most of the time, our only enemy agains this is ourselves and our self-control. Since gambling is one of the actovities that we always do, it will be quite hard to break it even if we use one of the mentioned triggers to stop playing because we think that it's okay to still play one last game.

I'd probably stop if I can spend weekends on an entirely different activity that will make me engaged and hooked at all times.

People do usually quit when they do experience this thing which is really just that typical. How you would be able to play if you dont have money to be spent?
Its indeed impossible for someone to quit when they are still on the verge of winning times or moments which you would be mainly thinking that you should play
even more and hoping for more winning hits which it is a typical gambler mindset where it do really pushes you or motivate you on playing even more.
YOu wont stop as long you do have the money you could pull into your pocket and this had been always the case.

Honestly, treating your gambling activity shouldn't end up on too much technicality.

It's really not necessary to quit as long as you are disciplined and responsible. Gambling is not that bad if you managed to play it right.

If quitting is really a must, then no choice but to help yourself and aggressively force yourself to stop gambling for good.

I think it is quite the opposite. Instead of quitting, you might actually get hooked to gambling. If you are a first timer, then that is a good hook. If you are an old-time gambler, it is just additional fund to gamble more. Winning a big amount is not a good deterrent to gambling.

You can when you lose a huge amount
This is the most popular reason to quit have you done this only to come back

This is possible unless you are an addicted gambler. NO number of losses can deter you from gambling. Instead of quitting, you will find more money to fund your gambling addiction. That is how addicts bankrupt their resources. But I think not so many are like this. I for sure, if accrued a very large lost will stop gambling. At least for a while.

You can anytime you want
Do you have the power to do it anytime that you want.
This is a case-to-case basis. It depends on the person if he has the will to quit gambling. Others do not have the will to control their habits or addiction. You are lucky if you are one of the people who have the will to control their gambling habits or quit it totally.

You have to when you're wife tells you to

This could help #3 especially if the wife is very supportive of you. But if she is just going to nag you about gambling, I think the result will be the opposite. Many men hate to be nagged by their wives, but some are willing to change because of their wives when properly approached, supported and guided.

Only if others will end up with the same as yours.

Unfortunately, losing a huge amount might trigger the desire to gamble more to chase the loss. That's the reality for most gamblers. The eagerness to recover that amount will just be fueled more because the loss amount is really big.

To quit gambling, there's no other way but to become dedicated to doing so.

I think the 2nd, 3rd and 4th reasons goes more than the first would ever go.
Let's look at someone like Drake most of all. He's got all that he wants from his career and by that am saying, money is hardly his problem, he has lost huge and at the same time, won huge but still, he continues to gamble. What might his purpose be?

Perhaps it's it's deal his got with stake.com to keep the gambling going or maybe he just having fun while trying out his luck.

Winning huge is hardly any reason. It might be a reason for a day to end the session and try again tomorrow, same with loses but to quit gambling, I doubt that. Most huge wins are seen as lxuky money, extra cash and so, you just want to use it as you want. What better way would that be than to try and win more. Eventually, you end up sending it right back to the house. Some addictive path gamblers take.

I think you can quit gambling at any point really, it's all in your mind.

Personally I think the best time to quit gambling is when you just won.

Everyone could quit gambling if they would want to; it is just a matter of self- discipline. Greed and money are the main factors why a gambler continues to play. Best thing to do is diversion of activity. Find something that would consume your time and eventually it would replace the hours you are spending in gambling activities. Make friends as well who are not into betting because if you will be still surrounded by people who are into it, you'll surely have a hard time to get over it.
Losing a huge amount, to some people, is enough to give up on something but there are people who will get more drive from such instance or to simply play more. Likewise with winning big time.

Out all of those options, the hardest time to quit is when you have just won I think.  From pure self will with no encouragement to walk away at this point, its all solely on the person as a personal choice.  Hence that is the strongest of the 4 in terms of will power, I would believe this person as most probable to be resolute over other options.     I would be looking for a winning streak after 1 win I'd like more to counter my prior losses so I wont or have never done this.  Surely everyone likes to think they only quit when no win is coming, that would appear smartest.

Its very hard to know which time is best to walk away or continue, the wife option I kinda disbelieve maybe a temporary quit due to forced reasoning however much you like your wife.    Being forced to quit when stumped by a big loss,  a cessation from necessity does not count imo; a few will not come back but a vast majority this is only a temporary stop when there is no choice in your decision.

Impossible for me to quit after that. There's a feeling that I like to win again that huge amount.

I will be responsible though how to spend that big money but it doesn't mean I will quit because of that. :)

You can when you lose a huge amount
This is the most popular reason to quit have you done this only to come back

Where did you read that's the most popular reason for some people to quit?

That's the other way around as once a gambler loses a huge amount, they will try to recover that loss no matter what.

You can anytime you want
Do you have the power to do it anytime that you want.

Then basically, you are not stopping to do gambling here but instead just gambling on casual. It's a good option.

You have to when you're wife tells you to
I know a lot of guys who quit gambling for good after their wives tell them to, do you know of someone, or at one time you are one of them.

Even wife will ask their husband to quit gambling, is it really can be followed?

If the gambler really determines to do gambling, he will do it regardless if his wife will stop him or not.

This is correct and only we can do it. If we are really determined to quit gambling, we must start with ourselves regardless of what are those reasons we are waiting for before quitting. There are different things that a gambler can lead in stopping gambling and we don't know the specific reason for that.

Let's always hope for the best when doing gambling as it not just as money at risks here but also our social life and relation to our families.

Those four reasons are good enough for a gambler to quit gambling, but then again it's easy to come up with different reasons based on the gambler's experience than to successfully quit gambling. Others might've failed to quit but like what TimeTeller said it comes down to you and how you're going to make it work on your end since it's always possible for anyone to successfully quit regardless of the reason and as long as they're determined to reach that goal.

Coming back again because the impulse wins. It's possible that the person who loses a huge amount is his everything.

Having something new to do or a new job opportunity I think will help more than a wife yelling to stop. The gambler will just secretly gamble, that is what will happen just like a guy having an affair.

All options compass the option "Can quit anytime you want" though? No matter the reason it's technically under the idea of "anytime" after all. It doesn't really matter how you quit, what matters is that you quit and the mindset was there already in the first place. I'm assuming the other options are there only because your mind needed an impetus to actually push the idea of quitting in of itself. Whether it be a realization, an outside influence or whatever, try to find an impetus that can force you, we all have that idea of wanting to quit gambling in the corner of our minds really, we just need a push of sorts.

I guess you don't need a reason to quit, even if you collect all the reasons that could make you quit, but if you don't want to quit and still want to play, you will keep playing. If you want to stop for no reason, you have to stop immediately without thinking of any reason and not wait for another round because if you are still waiting for one more round, you can be more tempted to continue playing. And if you're already tempted, I'm not sure you can stop after you've won or lost. Even if you call your wife to ask you to come home, you will say one more round and I will go home.

I am with the 4th choice?  ;D ;D

I love My wife , I respect her so much specially after all that I've done in the past?

sometimes we have to give our self respect as we need respect from others and our Wife is what needs it most, they only wanted a better things for all of us specially in family so I believe that with that reason? I can leave gambling for better though maybe an agreement will be best for both , family and me in regards to gambling.

I did not make a vote because I think it is none of the above for me. I doubt I will stop gambling even if I win a huge amount. The same with losing but it might force me to gamble much smaller amounts and less often as possible. I can't also stop anytime I want. That's too difficult to happen in reality. As to the last option, I don't think so.

I think the most that I can do with staying away from gambling is to gamble very seldom. I think I can do that. That's probably when I am already very busy with a lot of responsibilities like family, job, business, other more interesting hobbies, etc.

You gave clear reasons to stop gambling, as all the reasons you gave were really tangible and excusable enough to stopping gambling, But my emphasis are basically on when you make a huge winning, which is supposed to be a greenlight to you stopping gambling.
Most times it is best you take a break or sometime off, after you make a huge win, especially if you're a frequent gambler( a full time gambler) to first plan the utilization of your winnings.
I always advice people to take some time to do the things they have planned to do when they have the money whenever they have a major winning.

And secondly, a major loss is another huge greenlight to take a break from gambling even without been told.
Most times it is best we take a break to figure what the problem is whenever there is a major lose, because most time when we persistently continue playing after a major lose, we unintentionally involve in revenge betting and gambling which inturns leads to regrets and most times severe loss.

if this case is experienced by heavy gamblers who are already very addicted to gambling games. it's what keeps a person out of gambling.
even in some cases, it's very hard to get out.
1. When you get a big win, the possibility of getting out of the casino does exist, but I think it will only happen for a while. People who have been in the casino for a very long time will always be interested in playing. especially with the victory or luck that is being felt.

2. Losing a large amount, has a greater potential for us to get out of gambling. Bad experiences sometimes have a traumatizing effect on a person.

3. Not many people are used to gambling to get out at any time.

4. Some important people in our lives usually influence changing our attitudes and habits. not just on the negative. Even positive habits such as exercise sometimes have the potential to change. This factor also has great potential for us to leave the casino.

I can do all the other three but I don't think I can with this one when you reach something or won a big amount that means you are doing something right or you are having a stroke of luck there's a saying that we must strike while the iron is hot and winning huge amount is a good sign, I will not change my bankroll or my wager I will just continue playing and maybe I can repeat it next time, not easy but possible.

All gamblers are different from one another they have different reasons why they are playing, so when they are quitting all the reasons above can make gamblers stop or quit playing I think there are hundreds of reasons why gamblers quit some are not mentioned here like the pandemic many quit because of the pandemic, another one is the economic situation or losing a job or relocation to a place where there is no land-based casino or the internet signal is very weak.

Not sure if those could be possible reasons to quit. As for me, I quit or at least stop for a certain period of time to gamble is because I don't have the source of income to begin with. I lose my job and my business didn't prosper way back in 2015.

So I doubt have a choice but to completely stop gambling for many years, or until such time that I have recovered enough. Specially when I join crypto later and made some money thru investments, I was able to get back at my feet slowly. However, I'm not that addicted anymore as compare to previous years. I still play but not that much.

want to stop for any reason if there is no full intention will still come back. Even though he experienced a large loss, he still didn't realize that he was wrong in managing his finances.
The average person who stops gambling because they don't have any games anymore, or those who have won a large amount and choose to quit before the win is taken again.
If you really want to come back, maybe you will start with a minimum and already limited capital. will not be a big problem as long as gambling is done with common sense without fulfilling the greedy nature of wanting to keep winning.

The guy, who "won a huge amount, but is quitting gambling" is most likely spamming the forum with low quality threads.
I don't believe that he won anything and I don't believe that he is quitting gambling(maybe he isn't gambling at all).
Trying to quit gambling after winning a big amount of money must be extremely difficult. I'm sure that a lot more people quit gambling after losing money, rather than after winning.
Trying to quit gambling because you wife told you so seems hilarious to me. It seems that some men are total simps. ;D
Your wife having total control over your life is something you should be worried about.
No wonder that the words "life" and "wife" look so similar in the English language.

to answer the thread's title, Yes, you can, all the reasons you put are valid reasons for someone to quit gambling. but that doesn't mean everyone would think it is a good reason enough to quit gambling.

Not sure if those could be possible reasons to quit.
all of the options can be a reason for someone to quit gambling. the reason might be not enough reason for some but if it is a good enough reason for them, then good for them.

It takes a strong will to quit gambling not even huge win, huge loss even when a wife tells her hubby it takes a loving hubby to look into what his wife has advised him against. Many who stops gambling do it at their own will either when the want to. Huge win can build false confident on gamblers and that will make them feel everyday is green, it might also trigger increasing betting stakes no one can stop a gambler except themselves.

Quitting gambling because they suffered a big loss, my guess is not because of the loss but most likely because the funds have run out, maybe whales with very large funds can return to play but for gamblers on average big losses often cost money so they stop gambling until they have funds again to play.

the people who can stop gambling are those who are willing to listen to the advice of those around them. I myself am able to control myself and stop at any time from gambling when I want, besides that my partner also always reminds me when he sees me starting to lose control when gambling.
Controlling yourself in gambling is important and I really applaud someone I've seen create a topic in this gambling section where he stops gambling for a while when he wins big, that really rarely happens.

It is possible to quit for any reason whether stated there or not. What one just needs is that nudge which tells one enough is enough, then they can begin the process right from the subconscious. Often times we think we want to quit but realize we are just giving excuses in order to attract some form of self pity, maybe that makes us feel good because of the thought.
Most persons have after a very terrible experience suddenly quit gambling because their world was left hanging by a thread. No one should wish for a bad experience which can alter significantly their lives. Hence, the plea to quit while the loss now is minimal or better still never fail to regulate the urge to gamble or better put, gamble under moderation.

Well, based on my experience this is really one of the reason why I consider to stop playing again (even though it's not a huge amount). Because once you experienced it you'll be discourage to gamble again and have regrets on why you spend your money in gambling instead of spending it to more valuable things.

But of course it depends for every gamblers because this can also trigger them to play more to get back what they lost. Hence, it depends how we deal with losses and our mindset after experiencing such situation.

You can when you lose a huge amount

These first two options are basically connected to each other. If we will only stop when we win huge amount, in other words we will keep playing until we reach it. In fact the longer we play, the higher chance we will lose more money and it may lead us into the 2nd option.

You can anytime you want

Quitting anytime whenever we wish/want is the best choice. It means that we are able to control ourselves regardless what is the latest result of our gambling session.

You have to when you're wife tells you to

It is good but I dont think it is effective as it means that we are relying on other. Most of the time, when gamblers are already addicted then any advise wont affect them including wife's.

I'm not sure I could give up gambling completely after a big win. For me gambling is not a way to earn money, but just one of the entertainment, like watching a movie or meeting with friends.

But I do know one thing for sure, that I would use the money I won to improve my financial stability and in no way would I spend it on gambling in the hope to earn more. Rather, I would invest it in low-risk assets, such as real estate or bonds.

It's possible but a low percentage do quit on that reason. Why? Because after the win, the mentality would be they can afford it now.
A big winner will probably create a bank account whose purpose is for his gambling habits.

If I win huge amount of money on betting I will quit gambling completely and delete any gambling related App on my phone to avoid any temptation of going back having known the huge risk in gambling I won't take any thing for granted especially being greedy, I had personally seen a gambler who won huge amount of money and went back to gambling aiming to win more unfortunately lost almost half of his initial win, of course I will  diversify to other non risky investment whose returns might not be much but I will be very contended with whatever profits earned rather than returning to it.

It's possible, that he had made a previous target when he had won a large amount would soon stop. Depending on the mentality of each individual, Gamblers who have a winning mentality will stop gambling after taking big profits, This is very realistic in my opinion because he uses logic.

You can when you lose a huge amount

No one is a gambler who likes to lose, even those who are addicted to gambling. Luck at the gambling table is not always on your side, at certain times you have to stop because you always lose bets. Use common sense when gambling, luck may come to you when you have stopped for some time.

You can anytime you want
Do you have the power to do it anytime that you want.
Of course you can, although quitting the habit of gambling in general is very difficult for those who are already addicted to a high level, it takes a strong impulse to do it.

You have to when you're wife tells you to
I know a lot of guys who quit gambling for good after their wives tell them to, do you know of someone, or at one time you are one of them.
For those who are addicted to gambling, it takes time to leave the habit of gambling. The wife has reasons to ask her husband to stop gambling, of course he wants the best for his family. I'm not that selfish, when I have two choices I prefer family.

It is really possible to quit gambling based on the reasons you stated.

Once you bet and won a huge amount, some people might really abandon gambling because they already got what they have been aiming for. These types of people are those who know the risks about gambling, especially the risk in chasing more and more winnings. These people are also the type of people who want to safeguard their winning prize before bad thing such as consecutive losses, happen to them. I can say that these people already conditioned their mind beforehand that the moment they win big, or at least big enough to starting something, they will leave gambling. Personally, I think this is good because they know their limitations and they are setting up healthy boundary they will benefit from.

The second you mentioned is definitely one of the most common ones. I have a friend that lost $700 on gambling bet which made him quit gambling totally. A loss is really painful especially if it's really big and if you know it to yourself that it is not something that you can afford or basically just a spare money. The regret will linger as much as long as you can't accept that you were defeated and you lost. But that's okay, because eventually you'll also be okay and you'll move forward. What matters the most is that you learned your lesson, although just the hard way. You see, learning when to quit is a strong trait because some things aren't just meant for you and aren't really be good to you.

Now, this is the goal of them all. Learning to establish your boundaries and setting your thinking that you can quit whenever you want to, whatever circumstance there is, may it be continually winning or losing, or a mix of both is a good thing. If you planted it in your mind that you are only in for gambling for satisfaction and the good stuff that comes along with it, then you'll certainly be able to quit and leave whenever you want. You won't get addicted if you know when stop. Quitting gambling whenever you want doesn't necessarily equate to having whatever you want in life. Sometimes, it's the other way around. Go figure.

This is a silly one, but it happens in real life. The moment you got a partner, they will have a say in your habits and your ways. Of course, not to the extent of controlling on how you do you, but only in the extent that they'll remind you that something is not doing you good like gambling. Which is why a lot of wives tell their husbands to quit because they have other things to prioritize. Necessities always come first before luxuries. It shouldn't even be stated because it should be known already as an automatic rule once you have a family.

You can when you won a huge amount

You can when you lose a huge amount

You can anytime you want

You have to when you're wife tells you to

There are many reasons other than these to serve a point to mark a stoppage to gambling especially whenbthe health condition of a gambler isn't the type that want any rise in temper, professional position or politics appointment also can make such decision come to reality, if the wife and family had been complaining of being irresponsible because you gamble with every earnings made then you've got no option than quitting, it rare to win big and quit but you can reduce the rate at which you gambles while loosing big amounts i think should be a lesson taught on not to play with such amount tou can't afford loosing, but still not enough reason to stop gambling except if after such, the gambler was sued and jailed, in conclusion, the only determining factor to stop a gambler from gambling is self, whenever such gambler stand up to declare one day that he's no more interested in gambling else it could be a difficult thing to stop gamblers from gambling.

You can quit anytime you want as it is at our own discretion whether we continue gambling or not.

For the first choice on "Quitting after a massive loss", yes, this could be problematic if we continue gambling after losing a lot of money however there are still those who continue and were able to flip their luck or destiny, however, on the other hand, you can still keep on losing.
For the second choice on "Quitting while ahead or have won a huge amount", yes, it can also be a good choice if we can stop gambling and try to enjoy our winnings, especially huge amounts and if possible, try to invest on other things that we can focus on.
Lastly, for the last choice of "Quitting because your wife told you so", I guess it's on own discretion whether or not we should listen. However, if you think that the reason that your wife wants you to stop of the negative things it affects both of your life and I suggest you listen.

It's indeed only a matter of self-discipline to be able to quit gambling without hesitations. Unfortunately, a lot of people don't possess that. They aren't even self-aware of the bad habits they have which results to them self-sabotaging their very movement for their supposedly success. Greediness often take control of the mind of those people who don't know how and when to establish a healthy boundary they might benefit from. They don't know how to do risk management and risk assessment, which is why they often chase winnings after getting a win. Or chasing the lost money after they consecutively loss.

If someone do not have the ability to cut off gambling into his life, then the more probability he will get lost in his gambling journey. Because every gambler should know when to stop. A responsible gambler knows his limit and therefore won't push his luck in defying the boundaries he made for himself to follow. If you can't do that, then you are not a responsible gambler. Despite the ratio of winnings and losses, the moment you hit your maximum try to bet, it should be understood you'll have to quit for your own sake and for the other people around you too such as your family which can be affected by your gambling habits.

Thinking about this in the first place makes it seem like you have a problem with gambling. Who would feel like this? Imagine being able to stop your gambling cravings once you are satisfied with the current conditions that you input.

Win a huge amount = Stop
Lose a huge amount = Stop
Anytime = Stop
Wife = Stop

If you don't know the answer to that question, you may have a problem. It's time to reevaluate and see the value of money in the first place.

Winning a huge amount will not make you quit, most persons will see it as an encouragement to keep playing. It is not a common thing to hear that a person stopped gambling after they won a huge amount.

You can when you lose a huge amount
The experience that follows after loosing especially a huge amount can be depressing and can really make someone take a U-turn on their decision to keep gambling. But unless the experience is really bitter, someone who has been gambling for long will easily go back to gambling.

Yes, with all of those reasons, you really can quit if you've got all of those reasons. Another thing is when you're not in mood, you can quit because you don't feel that you can keep going on and you're just going to get more losses if you are not in mood because you'll be affected with your decision making. And about doing it at anytime, this is being forgotten by most of us that we all have the power and control to ourselves, whatever is the situation, win or lose streak, we can quit at our own will.

I think the best possible answer for me is when my wife will try to convince me to stop and never do it again or else she will file a divorce because she can't handle my addiction anymore. I need my wife more than my hobby because I can't live without her but I can find another hobby after I get rid of the old one. My wife is only one in this world and no one can replace her and no one will love me like how she's doing right now.

One can quit gambling if he wins a large sum of money if he gambles for profit. Maybe after the big win he might invest in a business and quit gambling. If one gambles above his capacity or income and experiences a big, it could be a genuine reason to quit. This is because there might be pressure from family and friends for you to shun gambling. If one is not addicted to gambling, he can leave the game anytime he wants because he is not under any influence. My wife understands that I have full control over my gambling habits, but if she senses that I going out of control and I see the need for me to stop, I would respect her decision.

My understanding is that the level of someone involved in the world of gambling is different, it's all caused by the character and nature of the individual itself, meaning that there are various ways that someone wants to gamble and wants to stop in the world of gambling.

Win big, lose big, wife to me is not one of the types of causes people want to do what they want.
Type: this
Quote
You can anytime you want
Which in my opinion is the biggest influence and factor of a person wanting to quit gambling.

Meaning: a person can start gambling when he wants and also want to stop, if someone can come at any time, of course he can stop at any time, that's human nature in general.
their wins are still curious about other/new types of games, they are likely to want to bet again, lose are also so curious that there is still a willingness to make money and want to bet again on the opportunity that exists, wife is likewise someone can still cheat or lie to the wife about the actions they want to do.

From some of my understanding and comparison, of course I will choose the reason for point three.

I gamble because I like it... when gambling becomes boring I will quit, or when I run out of funds totally! I don't hide it, my wife knows that I gamble, and sometimes she is even watching, with questions about the game and how to play it. Of course, I am spending some money on this fun, but I don't mind spending some amount I can afford to lose.

I think quitting when your wife tells you is truly loser mindset and doesn't make sense. You are individual and you should make your own decisions.
...

I guess some people are addicts and gambling is creating problems around, and they can't/don't want to see that their gambling habit is harming them and their relationships, so their wife needs to tell them, or anyone else... and they are probably doing that all the time, but (in the most cases probably) the addict doesn't want to listen and make some changes. Bottom line is that gambling can be harmful, people can make different excuses to stop gambling, and whatever "excuse" works for them should be good.

In my opinion, in a healthy family there are no "own and others" decisions, but there are right and wrong ones. If a wife sees from the outside that gambling has become a bad habit and leads to constant loss of money, and she helps her husband finish with this, then I don’t see anything wrong with that.
And by the way, I believe that you can quit gambling if you win a large amount of money - in the end, some gamblers play in the hope of winning big and if they achieve their goal, they can stop. Of course, this does not apply to those who are addicted and deceive themselves "when I win a lot I will stop."

I think most people here have the mental ability to quit whenever they want. However we should not say that lightly since there is a considerable amount of people who happen to have huge addiction problems when it comes to gambling and cannot just up and leave when they want.

Losing or winning any amount of money has shown in the past to not be relevant when it comes to wanting to feeling just another rush from the risk of losing or winning money in some gambling game. So I really doubt that will convince most people to stop. Even millionaire winners seem to always come back to gambling.

As far as wives go... Well. That might be an effective way to stop gambling when your marriage is on the line.

I don't think there's an option here that will really fit for me, but considering that these are the only available options then I'd pick the 3rd option. Of course, it is always in our hands how we handle our vices or hobby and honestly, quitting after winning or losing a huge amount? I don't think that is considered as an option for some gamblers as that's not how it really works. Maybe quitting and calling it a day is possible but for good? Obviously not.

I give my vote to "You can anytime you want" because I don't think much about gambling as a serious thing that I do, so I don't have a problem quitting gambling because of win or lose. If I have enough time to play, I will quit as soon as possible, no matter the result, as I know that if I don't quit, that will be a big mistake. I can lose more than I can imagine. I can't recover the losses. But I can also stop when I win big, which will be a big moment for me.

Thinking about this in the first place makes it seem like you have a problem with gambling. Who would feel like this? Imagine being able to stop your gambling cravings once you are satisfied with the current conditions that you input.

Win a huge amount = Stop
Lose a huge amount = Stop
Anytime = Stop
Wife = Stop

If you don't know the answer to that question, you may have a problem. It's time to reevaluate and see the value of money in the first place.
The question is more on a commonsense question whereas you yourself will know when to stop if in any case that gambling is affecting you in any negative way, especially on your financial situation.

But if you don't know how to answer that question then it is much better to immediately stop and try to evaluate yourself whether you already have any gambling problem or addiction as gambling might already affect you in a negative way and you don't even realize it.

You can when you won a huge amount

It is hard for anyone to quit when they win huge. When they win big they begin to think they have cracked the code for winning. They want to bet more. Anyone who tells you he is quitting after winning big is lying to you. He will find a way of going back to play more later.

You can when you lose a huge amount
This is the most popular reason to quit have you done this only to come back

No one quits when he has lost huge amount. They can quit when they have no more money to play but will go back when the money comes again. Gamblers see loss as a fight with the house and want to get back their revenge.

You can anytime you want

This is only one that can work. Self advice is the best advice.

You have to when you're wife tells you to

If a man's wife controls him to quit it means he does not have self control of himself. Every man should have self control and know when to quit.

it all comes back to oneself, whether the person has the intention to get rid of the addiction and do it seriously.
I used to be almost addicted to gambling because I felt it was a sign because I kept playing without losing track of time and even accepting defeats rather than wins, and I've been quitting for over a year. But I am back to playing again but time is limited and also betting capital and now I bet just for fun, and if there is a desire to bet and in my spare time. And when I bet even then I always remember the past which makes me very careful, especially in self-control.
and for another reason I have a busy job and that's also the reason I don't have much time to do it, so quitting completely is not what we imagine. But it could also be if there is a desire to limit or reduce it with the intention and also have to have a busy life and preferably have a job and add other activities, maybe this method can slowly eliminate your addiction. But it depends on your desire and goal to stop it completely or minimize betting for fun when there is only free time.

Gambling is already part of me since my school days. The good thing is I am more mature now. I know how to limit my bets and when I am busy I also do not force myself to gamble. Winning big will not change me. Although I am not betting big amounts nowadays maybe losing big might stop me just like what I did before but only to return later. I think I can stop gambling but only when I am too occupied with my life. I am not sure if a wife can change my outlook on gambling, highly unlikely.

It is really hard to find such people who quit gambling after winning big money. Maybe that gambler was forced to quit for some other reason, but it's hard to believe he quit normally. It may be that the gambler has lost so much in the past that he thinks he has recovered his losses by winning big. But I have never seen anyone who quit gambling after a big win, rather he took a break for a while.

This is funny and not really easy to do. It is in different way. It can be very easy for a husband who is losing alot to gambling to listen to the advising from the wife to quit and not gamble again  ;D He will listen to that very fast because of he is seeking help to stop and he getting the advise lol. The other husband having to make big wins steady from gambling is not easy to listen to the advise of the wife for that. What about you ? Are you going to listen to the wife to stop gambling if you have big profit from it? Lol. Difficult advise for the husband that is easy to win bet, for him this is a good business and he is having to take care of the family.

Lol will a wife advise the husband that is having constant huge profit (Profit mean money) from gambling to stop?

If you are not an addicted gambler, quiting gambling shouldn't be a problem as I can quit anytime it calls to quite.

As a gambler,if i win big, I wouldn't quit gambling because I take gambling as fun. Some persons when they win big, they will see it as an opportunity to keep on playing. They might even take it as a means of surviving. I don't think a gambler will quit gambling when he wins big.

So many persons after losing big will quit gambling, since they used the money for something important to gamble. It happened to me sometime ago, after understanding how to gamble and the rules of gambling, I started gambling again in a discipline way.

If my wife says no,I will quit immediately, we put family first before pleasure, she must have her reasons for saying that which she must tell me. My wife doesn't even know that I gamble, I have my gambling budget, which I get outside my monthly income from my working place.

Maybe some people can quit after winning a lot of money because they think that with that much money, they can use it for many things. We should do this if we get a big win instead of continuing to play because it can trigger our adrenaline and our emotions, especially if we even get a losing streak after that victory. It must be painful to see our collected money decreasing a lot. In the end, that money will run out because we are tempted to get more money.

Quitting gambling is not easy when addicted to it. You can decide to quit it today, and you find yourself playing it tomorrow. Gambling takes a whole lot of courage, self-denial and discipline to stop.

Someone whose mind is made up to quit gambling can take any of these steps.
1. Change location.
2. Occupied your mind with thoughtful events.
3. Dissociate yourself from friends who gamble and start mingling with friends who don't gamble.

Every time I win a large amount in just a rare play It took me over half a year again before playing that game again and use those winnings to make an investment to the assets

Good decision to curb oneself in gambling and make something good out of it, if we make a good winning then we must be able to have something to help serve as a remarkable reference to that great opportunity for winning big, many desires such but couldn't make it for once.

and if got a good income already that's the time i back in the playing of gambling of course it is hard to get broke in playing in crypto casino so to make an enjoyment of course I need to ready those funds incase i win good thing if i lose still okay because those are just spare money came from the assets I've made

Don't you know even the rich keep with getting richer, if you must continue that's fine but their must be a limitation to the extent at which you could stake a bet while gambling, many have been rich before but got wrecked down through gambling, without wisdom gambling can turn one upside down to be poor before realizing.

I agree, those which do not have a problem with their gambling can quit at any moment and for no reason at all, after all the tastes of people change as they become older, as an example something that you loved as a kid could be something which bothers you as an adult, so it would be natural that if you have spends years gambling that you get tired of it and simply one day you simply decide to give up the hobby and look to do something else with that time and money.

You can actually quit anytime you want because you are responsible of your own life so you have to pick choices that you think will benefit yourself and not the other people around. Although gambling is still a choice, but quitting from it is also a good choice especially if you think gambling has never been entertaining at all and all you’ve got are just losses and frustrations. Just quit and engage yourself into other profitable things like investing and trading.

I'm not really an obeying type so the last point would have the least influence over my decision but I think that it's possible to quit for all of the given reasons.

I feel like it's the hardest to quit after winning a big sum of money because such events build up your confidence. You start thinking that you're good at the game or lucky and want to keep going especially when you have free money to keep betting. It's much easier to quit when you're broke.

The second option has always worked out well for me,in fact is thanks to such a huge loss that I decided to stop gambling and only gambling a small bankroll weekly from that time on.The emotions of great sadness gets all of your soul and these emotions can only be understood by a fellow gambler who has lost the same amount.

For people who win though it is very difficult to quit because the win deceives you into thinking that you will win again and eventually you will get bust. For the wife who the f*ck cares what she thinks  ;D,this is a man's world as that song says and no I don't know the other verse that follows  ;D.

You can anytime you want
Do you have the power to do it anytime that you want.
This is it for me.
_Winning huge amount will not make me stop or quit gambling, infact, winning a huge amount of money will even encourage me to gamble even more since money is never enough.
_Losing a huge amount of money can indeed make me stop gambling but that would be for a while, i will surely come back, my stopping for a while will be to find time to heal from the shock of the loss.
_My best option and one which i know i can perfectly do is to stop or quit gambling whenever i want, and Yes, i have the will power to decide whether to gamble or not gamble - I am not addicted in any way.
_If i decide i am gambling, even my wife can not stop me, this is the kind of person i am, if my gambling is not affecting her and the children in any negative way but rather bringing value to the family, why would she ask me to stop?, if she does ask me to stop, i wont, its that simple.

I think that receiving a big win is potentially the most dangerous if you do not understand the odds involved - if you've been sports betting for years, placing the same sums of money and carefully planning your bets then you might be safe. If you are new to online casinos, somehow strike gold on a slots game and get $10,000 after a couple days of feeding in money, you might come under the illusion that it's an easy win - not freak luck and chance. It's also a bad sign if someone else is forcing you to quit, because you really need to understand and extract yourself from uncontrolled addictions without having to be told to do so by another person, or you risk slipping back into it.

I have the personal experience stopping to gambling after my wife restricted me. As my borrowing habit went beyond the limits, she found it to be disturbing our budget. I will quit when gambling causes many negative impacts in my life. It is the ultimate reason for me to quit gambling. So, when I lose a huge amount or when my wife asks me to quit, I will consider quitting gambling. However, I am always trying to limit my funds whenever I play gambling games. It is the way to prevent from losing a huge amount of money. I also ensure my wife that I only gamble in my spare time, so it won't bother the activities in real life. Well, we must be smart to manage the time for gambling and must limit the funds, it is the only way to stay in gambling for a long time.

the sense that you cant really think off clearly on things that you should gonna do.I could quit up gambling directly or on point.I dont really have that kind of addiction or impulsive emotions to play out gambling.

It is really just for fun and i dont really look something special from it and if i do tend to look for another entertainment then i could find up another activities
or things which would really divert out my attention and focus and deal with it.

I know someone who won $400k before and he lost it all, now he keep chasing same winning streaks for years. He probably lost over $100k apart from winnings, the addiction is the worst thing can happen to gambler. Knowing when you quit is good idea, it can be when gambler hits max win or winning over target limit or leaving to get rid of addiction. Even if wife asks to quit gambling, doing so is the best option to protect family meaning or connections.
It's the same mistake that any gambler made , they think they can do it for two times .. three times .. four times .. multiple times , the reality is far from that and disappoinment all over it , turning your greenlight profit into red losing streaks takes only few minutes and that is where all started .

To quit forever after a huge winning is really rare , but the last reason from op just make me laughing hard lol no way.

………..

I think there is a little misconception about gambling, addiction, the fun/entertainment and quitting it. No one should see a gambling as an act that one should seek when to quit, it is for fun and should be exercise at your convenience, if you are doing it for other reasons, then you should know that you are been addicted to it.
Gambling can make you win something good and the same time can make you loose all, this is the basic every gambler need to know before they roll a dice, if you know that, making a decision shouldn’t be difficult with a neutral player, if you win big and feel like taking a break, go ahead. If you lose and had a bad day, logout and take a fresh air or do what you like best and forget the game but don’t forget the lessons and mistakes from that day.

You have the power to quit anytime you want- the mind has absolute authority when to decide. Your actions is not totally dependent on the results, though it has a certain factor for it to influence over your decisions.

A person who is addicted to gambling will most likely continue to gamble regardless of the results he/she faces or continues to experience. But in all honesty, a person can quit anytime he/she wants especially if they feel that their addiction is overwhelmingly dangerous to the point that it clouds their judgement in making rational decisions over their personal life.

when you win a very large amount of money in the game of chance, the person needs to stop playing for a long time and when he starts playing again, the person needs to be aware that he will not win again a lot of money and that the recommended thing is that the person does not make big bets and don't chase losses, the person has to stop thinking that everything will be like in the past, making high bets will make the person addicted and lose everything that until the time comes when he will be addicted

I think it's the combination of the fact that humans are bad at probabilities and the idea that you could win a lot of money in a short amount of time that makes casinos such a massive attraction.

In the end casinos just collect most of the money, as the math predicts, and the gamblers end up in financial ruin at worst, or slightly up at best.

If you realize this, you could just gamble a bit for fun and enjoy all the perks the gambling industry has, but not spend all your money in it.

Sounds easy but hard to do. Quitting gambling requires a serious approach and dedication.

Regardless of the reason, a person itself should try to find a way not to push on gambling anymore.

Aside from that, there's actually no need to fully stop gambling but casual gambling will do and from there slowly minimize the time spent on gambling.

There's a saying from an influencer that I've followed before named Chinkee Tan said, "A happy wife, a happy life."
And I now understand that marriage is like that and being someone who just wants his life happy, you have to follow what your wife says.  :P
Well, there's nothing wrong following your wife if she wants you to stop and if she's asking you nicely then just give it to her and enjoy your moments together without arguing because both of you knows what's best for your relationship and understands the effect of too much habit.

Reasons may be varied per person on how they will quit gambling.

If the said gambler is still responsible for their other doings but having a hard time stopping gambling, they can just do gambling slowly, and later on, for sure they will now able to control themselves.

If the said gambler, on the other hand, is now in the worst condition as a gambler, they can't help themselves now and on that, their family and friends now play an important role to help these people.

If we are really involved, try not to get too deep because it can harm our finances, and we can also find it difficult to get out of gambling. This gambling business can cost a lot of money if we are not careful in managing the money to gamble. There have been many stories about the defeat of people who gamble, so we must remain vigilant so that we do not experience it. Apart from that, I agree that with a good mindset and good management, we can enjoy gambling as a way to get pleasure, but we don't lose too much money because we can stop on time.

then I will surely quit If i won Lottery jackpot , because this is something that will surely change my life for good, I only gamble because of a chance to earn big time (but of course to enjoy from stressful day)

I may be the first to take that vote but this is what I believe may happen (giving a chance to become millionaire lol)

Like the big  voted we have here? i can quit anytime I wanted because I am a type pf person that has control over gambling tough some times I can be playing longer than plans but the totality of my activities relies on my willingness to continue or stand.
so I will always gamble when I want and quit when i wanted.

You can when you won a huge amount
There's a discussion here of a guy who won a huge amount but added that he is quitting gambling is it really possible, anyone here have done quitting after winning a huge amount

When one goes to a large amount from gambling, a kind of greed works in him that he will probably win multiple time in this way and at that time it becomes very difficult for him to quite gambling.  But a really smart and intelligent person quits gambling after winning a big amount and uses that money in a good way so that it can make a significant contribution in his life.

You can when you lose a huge amount
This is the most popular reason to quit have you done this only to come back

When someone loses a large amount through gambling, he vows to quit gambling for a while.  But a real gambler can never give up gambling.  After overcoming his depression, he again back to gambling.

You have to when you're wife tells you to
I know a lot of guys who quit gambling for good after their wives tell them to, do you know of someone, or at one time you are one of them.
It is a common thing in every family that all wives prevent their husbands from gambling.  Because of this, many people quit gambling, but if someone gets completely addicted to gambling, he continues to gamble secretly after overcoming all obstacles.

If you have to wait for your partner to tell you to quit gambling, you might be doing something wrong. Gambling should be entertainment... and not something that pushes a wedge between you and your partner. You should try and limit your gambling time, if it creates issues in your relationship with your partner. (I am saying partner.. because it can be the wife or the husband in the relationship)

I will quit when it stops being fun... or if I win something significant and I am showing no control to stop when I want. Until now.. I can control it...and it is still fun.  ;D

You can anytime you want
Do you have the power to do it anytime that you want.

This would be my case, although many would also say the same and would not be able to, LMAO. For me it's entertainment, I know what I do, I know that in the long run the odds go against me, but I take what I deposit and bet as money that I spend on having fun, and when sometimes I win money, I take advantage of it to do some extra spending.

That's the right mindset, in my view.

LOL, this is very true. someone told me if he get a big win will stopped gambling before. But, he was greedy and trying to playing another game, and make him lose anything that won after few days. Till now he can't control his gambling activity. Its not easy to say stop playing gambling if he always thinking more win every day. And, because of this mindset, someone can be fooled to lose more and more. The best way always control the win, never say to stop if still want to play, because when we are saying will stop playing, and see other get a maxwin, wothout control he will playing again.

....
It didn't take an average gambler one day to gamble and win huge amount, neither did it take the same average  gambler once to lose huge amount, sometimes if we accumulate the losses it might surpass the total games won or the huge amount won and most of the times it takes a huge stake to get a huge win.

One can quit gambling after losing a huge amount if they haven't gotten so committed to gambling, maybe they gamble occasionally but as far as the gamble more often than needed it won't be easy breaking out of gambling even after a huge loss same applies to huge amount won, it takes a gambler who tried it a few times and got lucky to quit so easily compared to someone who has been there for so long. What ever an individual does more often than needed becomes a part of them unconsciously

Since I am not addicted to gambling, I can quit anytime I want to. My gambling is not a do-or-die affair, and for the record, I gamble for the fun of it, not really for the money. So I don't get emotional with it, and this does not give me any reason to leave either. Presently, I have higher records of winning with my gamblings, but the money I gamble with is so little to the extent that I don't get excited after my winning. Yet, I get fulfilled because I have fun with it.

I think wife's decision isn't the best stop me to gamble, it's true that most men will follow their wife's decisions, but if we're still not satisfy with the result and we're still want to gamble, it will not good for our mental health. It would make me to gamble in a secret place where my wife can't see I'm still gamble, actually we're already matured and we're know when to stop gambling. As long as we're not an addict, it's fine.

If it's gotten to the point where you need to hide it from your loved ones in order to play, then you should think about whether this is normal? This can be if you are too young, and you are forbidden to do this, but if we are talking about adults, then you need to decide this through dialogue. A wife can always agree, if she sees that there is no damage to the family budget, or the mental state of her husband, then there will be no problem in this.

Actually, this is the interesting part. there are many members who claim they have the power to do so whenever they want.
That's a very nice thing it seems, but I'm not sure their claims describe the actual situation.

To be honest, I'm having quite a bit of trouble myself.
a strong urge to do betting session activities, it seems more fun to fill the free time on the sidelines after activities with work. so I often make bets, at least in one week I can do three betting sessions according to the football schedule that I like.
It's hard to watch football without betting, it's like something is missing. so I'm not sure the reasons you've given can stop someone. at least, for me personally.

Falling into gambling addiction will cause you to fail in life so as much as possible, we should know when to stop especially if it's already affecting our life negatively. I'm just a small-time gambler and despite being too overwhelmed with my gameplay sometimes, I always make sure to put limits and proper control of everything. It's just a matter of self-discipline for us to be able to quit gambling whenever we want. We shouldn't wait for the worst situation to happen before we stop.

In fact, there were such stories, and even quite loud ones - I remember that even a film was announced based on such a case in the USA. Some guy (an ordinary janitor, it seems) won the jackpot and, in a few years of reckless luxury life, completely spent all the money and went back to his job as a janitor. I don’t know if it will be (or has already been made) film - a comedy or a drama, but it’s sad enough that having a chance, he didn’t change his life.

Everything you just listed down is already acceptable grounds for someone to quit gambling. That is if they are not on the verge of addiction. Multiple people who have won and lost huge amounts resorted to much more profitable ventures as a means to stay away from the dangerous hobby that is gambling, myself included. As in your case, you've had friends who actively quit gambling after being told by their significant other to do so. So from that particular statement, one could derive that as long as you have the necessary willpower and dedication to quit, you will be able to no matter how hard the gambling life pulls you back.

I remember that guy you are talking about. His story was posted in the gambling section of our forum but I think he is only lying because if you check his account it looks like he was shilling some gambling sites and then he tries to damage the reputation of other gambling sites but if I won huge amount I don't think I will quit gambling permanently.

I have some gambling problems before but I successfully overcome it and I know I can still even if I hold a big amount of money. As a problematic gambler before, I also experience to lose big but that didn't stop me from gambling either. I know that I only got carried away that time but I never repeat the same mistakes again. If we are serious about quitting then we must do it asap and don't wait for any signs because it will only mess up with your plans.

You can when you won a huge amount
It's always difficult to stop gambling after winning huge amount of money, most gamblers believe if they gamble with the money they win they can win higher gamble, so at the end they end up wasting all the money they win previously on gambling again. For example let's say a gambler gamble with $100 and win $500, after winning he will want to increase the amount which he used to gamble to maybe $200 which at the end he might lose.
You can when you lose a huge amount
Some people will definitely stop after losing huge amount of money but let me be honest with you, most people will keep on gambling because they believe the will win back all the money they lose one day which at the end they will continue losing, whenever they win you will notice that the amount lost will be more than the amount they have win.
You can anytime you want
I think people like this are just like me, people that are not addicted to gambling can easily stop gambling whenever they want but it will be difficult for people that are addicted to gambling to just stop whenever he want.
You have to when you're wife tells you to
Most people don't listen to their wife, they believe they are the head of the family, so even if wife complain, they won't still listen, they will keep on doing what they want, I believe just few will listen due to dis reason.

Those will be able to do if you can control yourself if can control your gambling activities, not controlled by the gambling itself. You can do that if you are on your full awareness of your time, money, emotion, and also risks. Many people may not be able to control their emotions and desire when gambling. The desire to do more and more gambling will be always disturbing and then lead them to be in addiction. This may be able to do, but exactly for some people, this is very difficult moreover if they have been addicted to gambling.
