Some gamblers keep their gambling activities secrete from people they have close relationship with. Having it in mind that if these people know they are gamblers,it might bring down their reputation or make them look wasteful. I hide my gambling activities from my Mom the reason is that she hates gamblers and calls them irresponsible people from her own perspective.

Personally, to be sincere now, I used to see gamblers as irresponsible people indeed, I used to see them as wasteful people and peeps without a future since to me, it seems they waste lot of money gambling and even when they win, it is never evident in them, I believed all until until I started gambling myself,.

And today, I hide my gambling activities from my wife, this is because she's a kind of person that will joy with you when you bring some thing to the table, but when you loose money no matter how small, it becomes a problem for her, she will start reminding you the better thing you would have done with that money.... This is why I keep my gambling activities away from her, and thanks to online casinos that have come and made gambling way more easier,  now I gamble from the comfort of my home, I don't have to go out anymore and be queried like a kid when I don't come back home on time.

I also keep my gambling activities from my pastor, and church members, no special reason though but I feel that if my pastors or any member of my church knows I gamble, they might take me unserious and wasteful, just the same way I used to think gamblers are, until I started gambling.

I hide my gambling activities from my wife the reason is that she told me  gamblers don't care about otger peoples welfare that much because the money gamblers are using to gamble if you ask them for help ,they prefer gambling than helping someone in need at the moment. I have tried to convince her this depends on the individual but she insisted that she has witnessed it twice from different people.
I also hide it from my church members I don't know why but I feel it should be a secret in other for them to know am someone that can be relied on in carrying out the church activities with trusting

I hide my gambling activities from my boss and workmates. I think it may affect my professional relationship with them if they know I am a gambler. They may think differently of me if they know I am a gambler, which could lead to affecting my status in my work.

I do not hide it from family, loved ones, and friends. I think they are a good source of support if I need them. They can also be a control group if ever I am overdoing my gambling activities.

No, I am not such a gambler. I hide gambling from no one, but there are some people I do not disclose it to because it is not necessary for them to know about it, like my dad and mum. But if they know, I am not concerned and I work for my money myself now.

I think just like any addiction, we hide it to our love ones. And If I remember, there were similar threads in the past, like if the person holds a public office but he was a gambler, what he should do? And I think the members here are split, whether to hide or it's better to just stop gambling but it's hard to do.

Or if you are being hire by companies to manage funds or funds of others, I think that's one thing for sure that you need to hide from your employer because of the sensitive nature of your job as you might be tempted to steal just to continue with your gambling activity.

If you're working in a financial department you may lose your chance to get promoted because employers have a high standard for their people in the high position you are out of candidates if they know that you gamble.

I dont need to hide everything even if i do gamble because its none others business on how should i be spending my money.I do have my own work and i dont have my own family which means
i could still play whenever or whatever i want but on the time if i do have family then i might really be considering on stopping and better to make those money on good use or building up for a better future
together with my kids but for now then i would just cherish out on being single or dont have any responsibilities.Although im not really that much spending up too much with my
money on gambling.I do play for fun and dont go beyond with your limits or border line then you should really be just fine.

I don't hide my activities gambling from anyone in particular presently, but try to keep it private from people generally as much as it is possible. If I had kids, I will hide my gambling activities from them, Not because it is the worst thing to do, but because I will not want them to follow my example and begin gambling at an early age.

I think you should hide your gambling activities from your children because it can trigger something negative in your child when they are going into adolescence. I also do that where the gambling I do is not known to my family because I don't want to deal with them about the gambling I am involved in although this does not have a bad impact if they find out that gambling is a bad thing if my wife and children know it. therefore I gamble always looking for a quiet place and usually do it when I go out of town.

Because some people may have different opinions and minds about gambling because some other people still consider that gambling only has disadvantages and is very harmful to do. That is why many people decide to hide as gamblers, even in their very close relations. This is normal.

All of my family, except my couple. Because I always share with her what I am doing. With this, she can also control me I am too addicted to it even I am out of control.

When you are already a family man then it would really be just right that you should not let your kids do able to see you do gamble.We know that everything that their parents would be doing is something that they would really be following which means that you should really not able to make other family members to see on what you are doing specially when you do gamble.We are aware on what are the things that it could

If there are persons that I don't want to keep my gambling secret, that is my children. Obviously, I don't want to influence them to be a gambler when they grow up. Even during the time that I worked, there are some of my office mates that know that I go to casino or even bet on cockfighting (but not my boss).

Being a gambler of course in some places is still something that is viewed negatively.
In some places including mine, gambling is still considered a futile and negative activity.

I'm quite open with gambling but that's because I only ever play the freebie games on offer and make small amounts over time. Probably the worst enemy of gambling companies, I manage to pull in a few hundred a year through taking advantage of all the various promotions and free bets that are available every day consistently. I let them know what is my activity and I can manage everything I show them that I can control myself from addiction and I am not irresponsible with all things. There is a benefit of letting anyone know when you gamble because when you are in the addiction stage, there is someone will warn you and try to stop you if they will see you are in the worst condition. So there is no reason of hiding if you are a gambler as long as you are financially free and you gamble your own money, just go for it because it is good to gamble without hiding.

i can agree if it is within your family only. but for other people outside your home, better not to divulge anything that from time to time, you gamble. as we can't control what others may feel or think about your gambling, even if you're just gambling for fun or to let the time pass, better not to disclose such activities to avoid possible misconception on what you're doing.

I don't really care what other people say but I don't share my gambling activities on social media just for the reason of not boasting my profits.
I mean, why should I? I'd rather keep it to myself and that way you can avoid people saying bad things to you or those who act like they really know you and want a share of it.  ;D
My wife knows I am gambling though, but she also knows that I don't go way far as hurting our budget for the month or taking a part of our savings.

I don't have to hide my gambling activity from anyone, because I gamble with my own money, so it's not other people's business what I do with my own funds. If they see me in a bad manner because I like gambling, it's also none of my business, so let it be. I believe that if someone hides something from someone close to them, it is because they are doing something wrong or because the relationship these people have is not working very well.
If you're playing occasionally and spending little money on it, I don't see it as a serious problem.

Thankfully I live in a country where it’s pretty normal for someone of my age to be gambling.  Here in the United States gambling had become very popular with its mass spread legalization across the whole country.  Everywhere you turn there’s a gambling ad on TV, the radio, a billboard sign etc. So personally I could care less who knows that I gamble, it’s not a big deal nor is it anyone’s business but my own.

Higher-ups in my company I guess? Or anyone that has some sort of business-esque type of relationship. Gambling, as much as we all like it (or hate), has a negative connotation after all. I don't particularly mind my family or friends knowing, if our relationship goes sour then just goes to show how brittle it is in the first place, but businesses are another thing.

Reputation is something you have to keep up most of the time, and showing a blemish can really ruin your entire career history, making it harder to get opportunities. If you were known to be one in the first place then all is good, but if you kept it hidden and kept up a pretty stellar performance, you'd want to avoid letting them know you're an avid fan of gambling.

Nope, I'm fine if my friends, parents etc know if I'm a gambler, why should I not to disclose it to my close relatives? I'm just being honest and it's up to them if they want to become my friend or my wife after then. Your close relatives need to know anything about you, because if you hide it and then they know it because of your carelessness, you will have a problem. As long as you live in where a country don't ban gambling, it will be fine.

When we talk about gambling, casinos, or betting, people's first impression is that you are losing a lot of money, in debt, and addicted to it. I think it's because this is the news they usually see on TV about gambling. The reputation of a gambler is very unpleasant to those who don't understand it and only know the negative aspects of it. I use to hide my gambling activities from some brothers and sisters in church and my cousin that also a Brother in faith because it is prohibited to gamble at any cost , but nowadays that I leaved the congregation ? Everyone except for my fellow players simply because other people has nothing to do with this activity. If they will know, they would either assume things from me and make impressions on them such as I don't handle my money well. Some people might ask for things such as why, how and the likes which would cost me time explaining. The more you limit something, the better. Only gamblers would understand what you are doing in this industry.

In my end, it is just an insult to explain myself from others because in the first place I'm not required to do so. People will just throw judgements right off the bat. Although there will be people who'll understand this activity, but seeking for them would be a different kind of story.

There is a negative image of gamblers surely. It is because of number of reasons and society does not consider these people as decent people. One of the reasons I can think behind this is movies where these people are show as bad people meeting bad results at the end of their life.

But we should not judge a person based on gambling. There is something like responsible gambling. Or some people can be doing this for fun only and they do not really interested in only the winnings from gambling. At least, the person involved in gambling is not doing any harm to other person in this activity. He is keeping himself engaged and treating it as a relaxing or leisure activity. Now there are also some people who are professional gamblers. For them, winning is important because gambling might be their only source of income. Gambling participation frequently can't change your mindset, because i believe that gambling is something you desire to do, from my understanding, it's not really fair to associate your children in gambling or making a gamblling as daily source of income from my my view, what i believe in gambling is that it can make you to addicted in it, and secondly gambling can make you also to have a double load because your generating income is divided, but one thing i can never do, is that to disregard someone who is a Gambler because of activeness in gambling.

The bad experiences my neighbors had had required me to keep my gambling activities a secret from them. At that time my neighbor had an argument with his wife because he was caught playing gambling, because he felt that his wife's restrictions on his activities made him commit domestic violence.

I too hid my gambling from my parents. especially now that I'm married, if they find out then surely me and my partner will be furiously scolded because they really hate it (all types of gambling activities).

This depends on what kind of people are you because if you are a nobody, no one really cares about it seriously unless when you are in a place where gambling is considered like a drug or alcohol. But even if they know it, I don't think they will do anything about it because maybe it's my responsibility to gamble. I never said anything about the gambling activities that I did to my family, only my forum friends understood that I was a gambler  ;D. I don't want they are thinking if that all my income is from gambling. Because so far, I don't give them the money from my gambling winning. I cant explain why, but the meaning of a word gambler has sort of a negative context behind it. No one boast that he is a gambler; parents arent very proud that their kids are gamblers (whos your son? a lawyer? marvellous, and your daughter? a dentist? brilliant. my son is a gambler 8)) The only people I dont want to find out that I am gambler, I gamble are my employers. I'm not hiding my gambling activities from the people around me but I don't broadcast it and just silently enjoy my gambling journey. People will always have a bad perspective about gambling. If my churchmates and colleagues who are close-minded would know that I'm gambling, they will definitely judge me the wrong way. I beg to differ on this case where you stated gambling is not doing any harm to other persons, because, if you are one who has a family or kids to look after, it would be quite terrible to go about gambling all for your selfish reasons not giving any credence to your family name or stigma that is associated with this. Gambling while single is quite better than if one has a family he/she is looking after, no matter how justifiable the case may be. A married couple or persons can gamble however but it must be an agreement case. Or unless where one earns a living by gambling radically, then it is okay.

Gambling for me is an individual social practice, hiding gambling activities as far as I know it all happens depending on the area where the gambler lives, in this case it has the category and situation of gambling activities in that area.

If you are a chronic gambler then maybe yes. They will hate you or will talk things to other people about this habit of yours but addict gamblers doesn't really pay attention to that. They would only care more about their happiness. No one can stop them unless it comes to the point that they are being forced to do so.

It is mostly for this reason that many of us keep gambling activities away from friends and family members.
The odd part is that, from my own personal experience, if you bring money home and you are asked where you got it from, and you tell them you won it from betting, they are happy and congratulating you and are even happy you did whatever you did (gamble or bet) to win the money..

but then on the other hand, keep gambling or betting and keep loosing the money, and open up to the family or even friends who dont gamble, and you instantly become the black sheep amongst them, more reason why i prefer to keep all my activities to myself , both the winning and loses, though its different for friends i gamble with.

I used to hide it from my family because they tend to overthink and it might just stress them out as they know how bad gambling can become. Now I still hide it but not as much since my friends know that I gamble and sometimes we exchange gambling stories. I just don't see that many positive things if I suddenly tell them that I gamble so might as well keep my gambling activities to myself.

Better to make yourself in private when it comes to gambling.It cant really be denied that most of us would be always be having that negative impressions or thoughts in towards gambling.

We do really indeed overthink that someone is completely that an addicted person once they had touched gambling which is really a very wrong idea for someone to believe on.

So if you dont really like that kind of hassle thing or mind boggling then it would be better if you do keep into yourself about on things that what you are doing.

The only person that I don't want to know my gambling history/activities is perhaps the young ones in the family. I just don't want them to think that it's cool to gamble and set a bad example that they might replicate in the future. Usually, young kids will always see adults as their role model no matter what the adults are doing, and IMO that's something that will always be a double-edged sword that needs to be checked always. Apart from them, I don't care whoever knows about  my gambling habits. I have the money to fund whatever I'm doing, and I'm not using money  that's not mine in order to get my gambling fill.

I would hide my gambling habits from my parents, siblings and probably children (when I have one). I won't Dare to hide from my dude; that guy's an ass. He gambles 247 and though, he wins many more times, I'm trying hard to dilute the mindset of winning big in him, with these common logic,: that gamblers ain't wealthy people, that I haven't seen any rich gambler (I mean getting rich with the money won from staking bets) etc .. but I'll shock you to your marrows that there's no live match that takes me unawares and I could even book you games if you want 'em. Who do I think I hide gambling from? I think is my mom. My mom is the type of mother that I don't to see or hear that you spent your earn hard money on gambling. She keeps telling us her children that gamblers don't save money or take care of their families well. There is this adage she normally says "earning and spending money immediately doesn't make a fortune". Gambling can't make you rich, it takes the ones you have. Desist from gambling

I belong to a religious group that frowns at gambling. Although gambling is not prohibited but most people in my religious group sees it as a manifestation of greed and selfishness. That is why I would always hide my gambling life from them. I would also ensure that my students in school never perceive that I gamble. This because they are underage and might start gambling if the know that I engage in it. My children at home must also be shielded from my gambling life because they are also too young to know that part of me. That is always why I prepare online games because it helps you to keep your gambling life secret.

Maybe depends on the person's profession. There are jobs that are sensitive and if those persons involved are caught gambling, they will face heavy punishment. Here in our country, police officers are not allowed to do gambling even off-duty. That is prohibited in their line of service.

In my case, I don't see a big reason why should I hide my gambling activity.

As long as I stay responsible and disciplined even when I gamble, everything should be fine.

It doesn't matter who they are as long as I am in peace and doesn't have trouble of having an anxiety that always thinking that what if he/she/they know that I'm a gambler. Nah, just accept it already that if someone found out your bad side you still can face them head on. But if you are ashamed to get caught, then don't do gambling simple as that.

If you can risk your money to gamble then you can risk your peace of mind too. Be forward to everything you do and stop holding back yourself you might not enjoy what you are doing. Be proud! Besides, there's nothing to be ashame if you are casually gambling and not a heavy gambler.

I don't gamble that much and I consider myself a social gambler. The reason behind this is I try to control myself whenever I gamble so as much as possible I try my best to stay away from it or limit gambling as much as I can because of bad gambling habits. I have a bad habit of chasing after my losses and most of the time I lose all my funds or go beyond my limit when gambling. My wife is aware that I gamble, but I never disclose how much money I gamble with whenever I bet. I don't feel ashamed or even hide the fact that I gamble to anyone since I don't really find it an issue as long as you are not a problem gambler.

For me they are everyone now - I don't want to tell anyone what I am doing. Want to keep it private.

Privacy is safe but boring if you are not sharing your thoughts with others. I don't know if you are not a talkative person, but I am, and it is very boring if I don't have someone I trust to whom I would tell my experience as a gambler, though this is where the right people are that you can tell. I only have a few online friends with whom I share my gambling experience. My family and relatives don't know that I do this. It is best if you have a friend who is also a gambler that you can talk with; though it isn't necessary, it is good for our feelings and minds.

Every person is different but I am not very inclined to share every single piece of information about my life to everyone I know, when it comes to my gambling I do not really tell anyone and not because I am afraid or embarrassed about it, but simply because I do not feel like it, people these days seem to want to know every single thing about you and I do not feel comfortable with that so I make sure to give them hints that I am not going to answer all the personal questions they may ask me.

That is why people should gamble only with money they can afford to lose and that won't be missed by the gambler later. If you have to repair something in your house or acquire a new furniture, of course you should use your money for those purposes instead of gambling, because life quality and comfort come first, but there isn't any problem if after spending on what your family is lacking you use some spare money to gamble just to have some fun. After all, everyone deserves to have their personal and private relaxing moment doing what they enjoy sometimes.

It's only natural that your wife and mother are against gambling because they must have known what the consequences of playing gambling could be for you or your family. But even so, some people continue to gamble secretly without anyone knowing, including their wives or mothers. Maybe that's fine with them and as long as they can keep themselves from losing too much, they can still do it. But you should not play gambling too often, especially if it can later make your wife or mother suspicious of the activities you do if you are alone.

Luckily, I have not met any hate as a regular gambler. I do always want people to gamble according to their means. I know a lot of regular gamblers that are gambling just for the sake of gambling. They looked happy and excited every time they gamble but they never realized that they are gambling above their means. I heard stories from my old community that people end up selling their phones, bikes, motorcycles, and even cars and many lost their savings which took them years to fill. So I can understand the times when wives and parents especially mothers hate gambling. People need to be more educated on the real purpose of gambling. It is a form of entertainment and not a quick way to become rich.

I have the right to keep my gambling activities a secret. My parents know I am a casual gambler and they’re not against about it. Even my wife knows too. But when it comes to my children, i don’t want them to know that I am a gambler because gambling for them brings negativity in life. You do have a responsibility to your family, but if you spend a small percentage of the family budget, you shouldn't have a bad thing happen to you.

My wife knows that I gamble and she understands it, because I have learned to fully control my emotions and actions when I gamble. I don't spend a lot of money and if I have money problems I just stop gambling for a while.

I mean; even if i were a gambler, why should I hide 'em skills? Why should I pretend? People choose things over anything, - but yes, that's just their choice. People's stigma against gamblers is still labeled as a bad person, I don't know what it's like in other places but at least in my place it's like that because there are still many people who think that gamblers are the image of bad people and have no future and still think that gamblers are bad people. gambling as something that is actually taboo to do in public there is even a law.
So indeed with this I personally clearly keep it a secret from people unless that person is the same gambler as me.

There are people who are really that secretive when it comes to things that they are doing specially with gambling which is highly frowned upon as a bad thing because people been seeing about that addiction

Definitely my children since I don’t want them to get into gambling and think that it will create them a bright future. Although I know they may still get into gambling when they reach a mature age but as much as possible, I don’t want myself to be the first to influence them on that. I hide my gambling activities from my parents not because they are going to do anything or consider me irresponsible but I do it out of respect for them. I don't want my family to know that I'm into gambling. I've lost big and I was into debt out of gambling. I've managed with some other reason. If my family come to know that I was into gambling, surely they'll understand that the loss of mine have happened through gambling. This could lead to unwanted talks and might create problems. It need time to settle all my debts and once after that I'm free to expose myself to anyone.

My family members know I gamble sometimes, I let my close people know about my gambling activities. I think this is the right way because they need to know what I am doing if anything happens to me. If you become addicted to gambling, you need other people. You can help yourself, it is impossible.
Sometimes you don't realize that you are addicted to gambling, your close people realize it and probably remind you. If no one knows your gambling activities, who will remind you when you are gambling in the wrong way? You need others, that why human is a social creatures.

I do like to keep my private life as much as possible private, which doesn't mean that will lie about my gambling habits. When it comes to strangers I will not tell on my own that I like to gamble a lot, but if the topic ever comes up in a conversation I try to be honest as much as possible. With my friends and family it's a different story, they know about my passion ever since it started. Actually it was one of my best friends who brought me into Poker more than 10 years ago and since then we have played a lot together. Switching into other casino games over the years was the natural evolution and I tell my friends about any bigger winnings or losses. With my family I am not going into too much detail, they know I like to gamble and they are fine with it. For me there is a big difference between actively hiding my gambling habit and not oversharing it. Only at work I feel uncomfortable talking about gambling, I will only talk to my colleagues about it during a beer after work, but never at my job and not to my boss directly. I feel like this could lead to negative consequences.  

What I choose to do with my money and how I spend the money I work so hard for are entirely up to me. Society has different ways of portraying gamblers, typically as someone who are being influenced and addicted, which they disapprove of as a bad habit. However, when they learn you've hit the jackpot, the same people who are close to you will want to be even closer.

There are many reasons why people want to keep their finances and gambling private, but for me, it is simply because I don't want to risk being judged or appearing to be an addicted gambler when I'm not, we all have various ways that we choose to live our lives regardless of how others perceive or see them.

There's a way i wanted to privately present myself before people around me not to know everything that concerns me, the perspective people will take a look on me when they discover i gamble is as an unserious person who waste money on gambling but they wouldn't understand the same benefits i got from this, my mother will turn bad at me in discovering i gamble because she would have thought that i could have gone higher than where i am currently if not for gambling that has been taking away money from me.

I don't hide it from anyone and I don't tell anyone that I am a gambler. I gambler online and no one will know unless I tell you about it. If I should hide from anyone, I will hide it from people that thinks that all gamblers are addicted.
Addiction is bad no matter whatever you are addicted to. That is what people should fight against, no fighting not to gamble. There should be control and moderation in whatever we do.

That's basically the reality these days. When we tell it to people that we're gamblers, they'll have that eyes looked upon us from top to bottom as if we've done a serious crime against humanity. I guess we just have to bear with that conception that they have on their minds about people and gambling as there's no way to change it.

I also hid that I was a gambler from my friends and mother but the prophet? I don't think you will be able to hide that from him, if you are a Muslim all you can do is ask for forgiveness with the prayers you say every day. If he is a Muslim, it is better for him not to gamble and to leave gambling immediately because it is Haram according to Islamic law.

Usually, in the mainstream media, gambling is really a taboo topic. And being a gambler is not something to be proud of because of the negative connotations that come along with it such as branding gamblers as lazy, irresponsible, selfish, addicts, and have no self-control. The discrimination once people knew you are a gambler is really overwhelming which is why most gamblers prefer to keep it hidden instead of being bashed and hated by many by showing the skeletons on their closet.

If you have a close-minded loved ones, it will be really hard to come out that you are a gambler because you'll just be criticized. That's why I totally understand why some people do not tell their partners that they are gambling. While this is somehow show me a negative side which is lack of being open in communication and transparency, I can't really put all the blame on you.

Hiding it from your fellow church members could be a good option to do on your end because people who worship are sometimes the most judgmental people you'll ever met. They have certain standards and one of those is to display "holiness" attitude that should not involve any type of vices. You might be the subject of their gossip if ever they'll know about your gambling ways, so be always on your guard.

I don’t really hide from anyone, because in my inner circle I know mathematics better than anyone, and if the conversation comes about gambling, I will talk about it in the language of mathematics. Accordingly, I am not afraid of being attacked by someone.

I didn't come to a point that I hide myself from being a gambler. It's ok for me to tell anyone that I'm a gambler but I don't like showing it off to everyone especially to strangers given that they might do bad things to me, It's just a precaution to myself and it is better to just stay low-key. I really don’t have the intention to hide as a gambler since I don’t gamble to earn a living, but in my workplace seems that gamblers are not well accepted so I chose to stay silent. I don’t want to ruin my reputation either from my workmates that’s why I never open to them about gambling. However, my family knows that I am a gambler and they don’t hate that idea. But in my workplace, maybe I’ll still keep it as a secret to avoid future issues.

The people around us including our family and colleagues will not understand why we gamble since they can't wear our own shoes. They are not open to the idea of having gambling as a source of entertainment and a comfort zone for players like us so it may not be our intention to keep it but to avoid arguments and judgment, we better not discuss it with them and stay silent about our gambling life. I have been a gambler since 6 years ago.
I have never hidden my gambling activities from my family. but my gambling activities, I hide from the public.

The first reason why I don't hide my gambling activities from my family is because whatever I do will never be banned by my family. Most importantly my family just wants me to gamble knowing the limits of the rules. I mean if I gamble I have to use cold money and if I lose, don't carelessly use hot money or money that is used for daily needs. and on the other hand I betting my wife supports it too

The second reason why I hide my gambling activities from the public is because in my country gambling is prohibited and is considered a violation of state law. I realize that gambling is the right of every human being, which is done without anyone being able to prohibit it. but on the other hand I have to appear to comply with the law to continue gambling

The one point you have mentioned about using cold money is very good but I like the other important point which is not disclosing your activities to the public.
One should live a private life - this is the best approach.

Something that is quite good because your family understands about it and you are also aware of limiting your gambling by not letting the emotion of risking everything in gambling be one of the things that might be accepted. As long as you give what your family wants from a financial perspective, maybe this isn't too much of a problem.
As for the actual public, I still feel that gambling is one of our privacy, there are many reasons underlying this and of course the stigma and things that are still taboo are quite strong reasons.

I am in the opposite situation. :) I don't hide it from my family, but I hide it from my coworkers because there is always a need for seriousness between me and them. Actually, I'm not really a gambler. I only bet on sports events and only on matches that I am very confident about for small amounts and I am not addicted to it because I can leave it whenever I want. So I don't have too many problems with this issue...

Nope, I am not a gambler perse but occasionally, I would try and test out my luck to see if I would win tonight's game or chance. The reason perhaps on why you do not want anyone or your family members to know that you gamble is due to your frequency of playing the game.

If you are someone who occasionally gambles and playing for fun, most likely, you will not be as shy as you mentioned. But one factor on why you would like to keep it a secret is to avoid influencing the younger generation in the family on why you gamble. This might fuel their curiosity, thereby influencing others in this very dangerous activity.

I only hide my gambling activity to my kids as I don't want them to think that it's fine to gamble since that is what adults do. So everytime I gamble, I kept it secret and make sure they're not around to see what i'm doing. It's not a good influence to them and they can't understand yet even I explain.

But this is not the case when it comes to my husband as i'm open with him, in fact he's watching me sometimes when I gamble before going to bed. It's because he's aware that it's only my way to entertain myself and i'm not a compulsive gambler.

I don't talk about my gambling activities. However i have gambling friends and we discuss with them how we can make this business better. My family's approach to gambling is negative. Because they see gambling as an addiction and say that they isolate people from normal life. Actually they are right. Because with gambling, my antisociality increased and my focus was only on gambling. Do it for fun not addiction. Stay with love.

If you were able to hide it from your parents namely your mother and your father and your siblings and you are now married you are still hiding it from your wife. Will it not be better to let your wife know if necessary and then let her know that you only gamble with your bonus. Which means you don't spend high amount of money in gambling. Some understanding women will not stop you but they will only advise you to stick to the small portion that is for gambling and they will always be there to check you if you want to spend above your budget

yes I will tell my wife if I win the bet and usually sometimes I buy a gift for her, if she asks where the money comes from I just say from my salary bonus, lol

Regardless of the context of the Op thread above. I can understand what you are saying, but providing understanding to children at an early age is very necessary, in this context it applies to all things not only related to gambling. I have a son, but sometimes he tries to find out what his parents are doing. I mean here, sometimes children see, pay attention, or ask what we are doing, especially in terms of gambling activities. there are a lot of ads on social media, be it youtube, whatever it is. children can get information from anywhere without our knowledge. the importance of providing education and understanding for children at an early age.

However, if we speak in the context of Op. I think gambling has now become part of the entertainment of modern society which cannot be separated, especially online casinos. no matter how hard we try to keep it from our family, the public, or in this case protect our reputation. in the end, everyone wouldn't care as long as it didn't harm them. as long as we can keep it just part of the fun, responsible and understanding entertainment, I don't mind if people find out that I love to gamble.

That is the attitude that I have... I know gambling are wrong in many people's opinion... but I enjoy it... so why should I care what they think? I am not using their money.... so why should they care?

There are actually some countries where gambling is seen as a very dirty act, and anyone  found involving I'm such activities is seen as very irresponsible for some factors best known to them.
I personally love gambling and I also gamble most times but with money I'm willing to loss but there is something I hate which is addictive gambling and that act drives me crazy because those set of people can go any length to gamble even selling of properties.

I wouldn't want my family know I gamble and my community at large because there is a reputation maintained by my family and it wouldn't be nice seeing me gambling and that's one reason I love online casinos.

I don't think there's anything to hide from anyone as long as our gambling activities don't harm others and are within normal limits. and I have my own limits in gambling. because I have always been accustomed to managing finances carefully. and give special rations for pleasure. this was done so as not to affect my financial condition. If we can still gamble while maintaining our own economic quality then I don't think other people will be able to lecture us.

But in some countries people who gamble are still considered bad. so we are forced to not be open with this. we are more closed to certain people. But it depends on what kind of gambling is being played. because even in my country gambling such as the lottery is considered normal. even minors, such as at the elementary school level, are familiar with it (2000s era). due to traders who introduced it to children at school during recess. I think Indonesians know this (those born in the 90s). I mean the classic lottery type. but for now the school has banned traders who introduce this type of gambling game.

Sharing some of our problems to other people does help us because they can give us tips or encourage us to not give up. I believe that many of us here were once addicted in gambling and we are shy to tell it to others but we are lucky that we overcome it on our own. If you think you can't do it yourself then don't be afraid to seek help. We shouldn't worry because I am very sure that we are not going to be hated or scolded.

It's unlikely that we won't know if we are addicted already or not. The truth is we know it when it happened but we only act like we are blind and continue doing it because we started liking it already. If we are curious if what is our gambling status, we can do some tests online or simply research if what are the signs of gambling addiction.

I think I don't have any specific people on my list that I want to hide my gambling activities from, be it my own family, relatives or friends. I just don't feel the urge that they have to know nor share to them that I gamble because why would they need to know, right? Surely, I won't be getting some praises if they'll know and I'll just hear some words that I don't wanna hear, so, it's best for them if they don't know.

The important thing is that I'm able to keep my boundaries when it comes to gambling, I just love to bet on said games or fights while watching them, that's all.

My parents also know that I often bet on football but not with my co-workers and college friends because it will damage the reputation I have there. there are some of my college friends who are also my co-workers, if they know I like to play soccer betting then I'm sure they will pass it on to other friends and my boss will definitely know about it, a bad reputation will make me have no career advancement in the company.

Well, mainly my parents. Even though I am married and left my parent’s house long years ago, even though they are an old retired couple in a town now whereas I am working hard in a city, even if everything looks like I am just a grown man making my own decisions and my parents have no say in any of that, I still wouldn't want my father to know about it.

For two reasons mainly, one is intellectual and the second is financial. Intellectual because my father is a smart guy who reads a lot of books and would be disappointed in me if he knew that I was gambling against house edge, something 100% guaranteed to make me lose money, that is stupid but we like it. Financial because.. well you lose, that is the financial reason.

There are a million reasons why people will think bad of you, and by the way, the "do the right thing and you'll be thought well" system doesn't work. Some people want to hide that they are playing gambling because others perspective is really quite different from them like gamblers are just spending money to seek fun instead using those to other way like getting a daily needs, and also another factor is possibility of asking money to them think that all gamblers already have a huge amount of money.

Also it is ideal for hiding playing gambling for safety, of course; if they find out that you are playing gambling, some people might do bad intentions for you.

I have long ignored people's expectations and assumptions.   I know myself better than anyone does.  So I don't care if they say bad words about me and my gambling activity.  If you live to please everyone then you will never live in peace since we all know that we cannot please everyone.  Besides our parents and family will always understand us no matter what happens, so we should not keep our gambling activities secret from them, as long as we are doing fine and do not show any signs of addiction, I believe they will trust us more regarding this matter.

In my very society it is odd addressing a female as a gambler. It comes with so much stigmatisation and  dissociation so for me everyone who cares to associate with me don't have to know i gamble not even my closest friend. People are nosey all the time. It's best that nothing they know about your gambling. The ones they look at the most are your outside appearance or the things you own. One that I heard from a judgemental friend was that he noticed the 2 worn-out tires I have yet I gambled $25 that day. I get it that he must have been concerned but the way he said it was something to observe.

They will look at you and criticize you. I am sure that every time you pass by your judgemental friend, he will always say, "I am sure he will gamble again; he is very addicted to it. See his physical appearance? He is not taking a bath; that is how addicted he is." I also heard this from a friend (though I am not the one they are referring to because we also have a friend who is very into gambling). They do not think they can hurt people, and that person is not doing anything to them.

Being able to not give a damn about other people's opinion and perspective of you will really make a huge difference. Knowing that you are just minding your own business and not really disturbing other people nor stepping their rights is already enough to keep you unbothered of their unsolicited statements. It's just so funny that most people do not know how to mind their own business and to not be involved in someone else's life they aren't included to begin  with.

It's also good to know that you are being open about helping them to know more about gambling, if they will ask. Spreading awareness and imparting the knowledge you know to them will definitely help them to be more open-minded and perhaps they might have change of heart in gambling if ever gambling is already in bad light with them.

First because it's frowned upon, and I'm not going to bother to take away the bad reputation, and second because they are activities that involve money. If I were to tell people that I have Bitcoin, maybe word would spread among criminals and I could face a $5 wrench attack, even though I am not a multi-millionaire. Some people may argue that it is better to be as honest as possible with your friends and family members but this is not true, there are many people that have outdated worldviews and that think very negatively about gambling, even if you just spend a few dollars in the activity, so why bother explaining to them what you are doing and then having a huge fight with them, when you can just keep quiet about your gambling and they are never going to find out about it.

And hopefully, you can really keep it to yourself because, in my opinion, as tightly as we keep a secret, it will be known by the people closest to us. So be careful when gambling and you should gamble when you are alone and always control yourself so you don't use a lot of money to avoid too many losses. yes, you are right that many factors are reasons for someone to hide their gambling activities. whether it's because it obeys the rules of the country that prohibit it. or because it is in a Muslim area which strictly prohibits gambling. and of course when we are open to gambling then our reputation can be bad. Environmental factors are indeed the determining factor. maybe my environment is only filled with people who are indifferent to one another. so that we are busy with our own affairs and do not really care about our neighbors.

They have a chance of different perspectives people seeing gamblers has tons of money because they can play a lot of games and some how people seeing them as desperate to earn money if your family knows that you are playing gambling still ideal to share to them because sometimes there's a not good profitable day and of course, it is really affecting your emotions while they are around and they know what might happen to you and still you can open to your family, but if they ignore that activity still you are the one responsible handling those risk management in playing gambling. Playing gambling not always giving a good time but also a hard time so quite better make your self ready for circumstances.

My family is aware of the fact that I occasionally gamble, and I also tell my close friends of my gambling habits. They need to know what I'm doing in case something were to happen to me, thus I believe this is the right thing to do. I think it is unnecessary for my colleagues and friends that not too close to know that I am into gamble. I also don't want my colleagues to have a negative impression of my habits because some people think that gambling is bad and I don't want to argue with them, it's a waste of time and effort.

I think this information should be hidden from everyone (except probably the family so that in case of problems with addiction they can help you) and especially from the tax office, hahaha. I just want to say that when we become gamblers, don't forget about our obligations to our families, in this case finances. I don't really keep it a secret, I just don't talk about it but if someone close to me would open up the topic the I would surely join.
I am not ashamed of being a gambler in the past , it is part of my life and I didn't borrow money to gamble so for me there is nothing to be ashamed of.

I have started keeping my personal life secret because of some bad experiences in life. Now I like speaking less.
And i don't discussion my secret with other people. i have lost so many of my friends - and I don't feel like connecting with them ever again.

Sad to say but closest people to me don't have a clue, and i rather keep it that way. I am pretty sure that they go all judgy on how i can't manage my life, and that would be because of gambling. I would need to assure everyone one by one that i have it under control and i have a system i follow that keeps me safe and not spending all my money. I agree that we must be honest, no need to be ashamed of our gambling activity if we use our money to gamble. We are also not harming anyone. It is different if we take loan money to gamble, or we use the money for basic necessities/primary needs and our family gets in trouble because the money ran out. If we do this, we must be ashamed of our gambling habit. So, as long as we gamble in a proper way, we don't need to be ashamed and don't need to keep it secret.

I will feel free to let people who does not see gambling as a bad thing know I play bet. But I will always keep it a secret to those who don't fancy gamble. Their is no need showing up a life style to people who will make you feel as you are irresponsible.

There’s no need actually to hide your gambling activities if your country is gambling friendly. In fact, people are even invited to gamble in legit casinos. But for some countries that have not accepted gambling completely, and that the people are still sensitive when it comes to gambling, of course I would have to hide my gambler’s identity so that the people will not think of me badly. Although gambling is not illegal, I don't think it makes sense to buzz it in such a way, even though it's not illegal.

The first thing I would like to emphasize is that I would never want my religious master to find out about this habit of mine. Because I respect him and I would never want to talk about such things in front of him.

After that I will always want to hide these things from my younger siblings and parents. Because if children see these things, they will also want to practice secretly which may put them at risk at an immature age.
