Title: The goodness of long-term investing in cryptocurrency
Post by: Mr. Magkaisa on December 04, 2022, 07:53:47 AM
Good day to all the community here in this forum, Do you want to know why cryptocurrencies are good for long-term investment? Why is it okay to invest in the long-term and what are the strategies and criteria to choose cryptos that we can invest in?

What is long term investment? (https://learn.bybit.com/investing/guide-to-long-term-crypto-investment/)
Quote
Generally, long-term investment is a form of trading strategy that seeks to profit by holding an asset for more than three years. Standard long-term investment occurs when company X holds a significant investment of company Y without having a majority of voting shares. The purchase price is considered a balance sheet item, while the short-term investment stocks are related to the company’s profit/loss. The sale of long-term investment would ordinarily be classified as other comprehensive income, not related to direct profit/loss.

1. Understand what you’re investing in.
2. Remember, the past is past
3. Watch that volatility
4. Manage your risk
5. Don’t invest more than you can afford to lose

My additional thoughts

Why is long-term investing good?

* Less Risky - Because you have only invested in the market for the long term, You just term or hold, there's nothing to get rid of and you can't opportunities will miss out on the market because they have invested, it's just you The others are in and out of crypto, so of course, if you are outside of crypto, you will miss the other opportunities here.
* More economical - Of course, if you often trade in cryptocurrency, you will spend a lot here, such as trading fees, credit card fees, and so on. If you're just in prison, you don't care about such things.
* Less stress - A lot of people invest in crypto but they are always stressed or too emotional about what is happening in cryptocurrency. Like when the value suddenly increases, it's very fun, but when the price suddenly falls or drops in the market, it's very sad and sometimes even depressed, which is a normal reaction and there's nothing wrong with it, but of course, it's also difficult you always feel that you might get sick, so to reduce stress, you should make a long-term investment, like buy and forget or buy and hold or maybe after you buy you will not have any attachment to the cryptocurrency that you will buy, no first you have to check or you should check there only once, or when you have your target you just sell there, it's that simple.
* Easy - So, because it's less stressful, this kind of investing is easier, you don't need to be an expert or a good trader. You know how to analyze, signals, charts, and more. That's why you don't need those because you will only invest once, or if you always do something simple and that is just buying buy.
* Compound Return - So if you are a long-term investor, your crypto money will also grow more if you do this method over time, especially if you stake in platforms that give you a return every week or month, or year, it seems that your crypto is increasing passively.

These are just a few of the reasons why it is good to invest in crypto when it comes to the long term. Because historically speaking, it is also good to appreciate the value of cryptocurrency like what happened with Bitcoin.

And another thing that can be done if you do long-term investment here is that if you have extra money, you can also do the DCA (Dollar Cost Averaging) style method, this is investing in crypto every week every two weeks depending on you because the purpose is only This means that your cryptocurrency investment should be consistent so that you can increase your holdings of crypto and at the same time you can avoid the volatility of the market. Many well-known investors do this.

Crypto Criteria for Long-Term Investing

1. Utility - The crypto you buy must be useful, what is it? What does that do? Is there a problem? Or what is it possible to do in the future?
2. Technology - Since crypto seems to be our future currency or otherwise it will still have a big part in our future. So we should get what before we get the crypto technology that we choose for the long term. Do you think that crypto technology can help, or will it be adopted by countries or people, or businesses?
3. Market Share - It's also important that the cryptocurrency we buy is in the top market, for example in the top 20 altcoins like that. Like many investors, it is popular and many institutions, companies, and or well-known personalities invested here.
Although in the stock market it is the same, usually those at the top of those good stocks or blue chip companies are good for long-term investing.
4. News and Updates - It's also important to know what's going on with the crypto we are going to buy, are there any updates? Upgrades? What do devs or teams do? Are the cryptos so beautiful, such things? What are the perceptions of the market or the people in that crypto, is it okay for them to use it, and do they have no issues, problems, cases, or red flags?
5. Developer and Team - Although it is also a great idea to know who is the person who maintains its team or devs. Although many cryptos are anonymous developers or teams. But if we can get to know it better then.

So, these are just a few of my criteria when it comes to long-term investing based on my views and opinions, if you have added a cape to the expansion of our knowledge here in cryptocurrency you are free to give by answering this topic.

Good day to everyone. :)

There's still a hit of risk if you go for the lower end of the amount of time you invest imo (unless you're always waiting for a profit, 3 year and 4 year timeframes can bring losses (if you buy an all time high - normally around the time bitcoin enters the news).

No altcoin will be as safe of an investment as bitcoin too.
It's also handy to use what you've invested in if you can or stay up to date on any critical news about it must in case something big happens that needs your response - but I'd d doubt that'll happen.

If we take top market as one of the criteria for long-term investment then the Luna and ftx saga will affect several investors. I do agree on long-term investment because it is the most beneficial to gain the most profit.
It is important to know and understand the project you are investing into, after what happened with Luna and ftx, it becomes even more difficult to know which project besides btc  that is worth the long-term short.
Am having trouble trusting alts this day's, the only few I can see worth the trouble are eth, bnb, the rest looks untreated imo.

The criteria you mentioned can indeed be said to be complex in starting cryptocurrency investments whose goal is to get long-term profits with some of the considerations you mentioned, but still investing in crypto has a very big risk.

What I experienced was that no matter how good Fundamentalist a crypto project is, which offers so many utilities and has a sizeable market, we never know how long the project will be used by users and what kind of management they use including financial management, historically they rise because of Hype sometimes and fades away slowly so it goes bankrupt without us noticing because we don't have time to pay attention to projects all the time.

What I fear the most is when someone hacks the project to a loss, forces them to unilaterally close and limits the liquidity of their customers.

As far as my experience in Investments goes, Bitcoin is the best of the best and history has proven that.

If you still want to invest in Altcoins, instil in yourself, you must be prepared to lose money that you believe will be rainbows in the future.

The theory is good but there is a catch! We do need to understand that the market which we talking about is highly volatile. Meaning, it’s not like general market (share and stocks) where you can see fortune five hundred companies working day and night on a product or services and thus making us realise whether it is going in the right direction or is it going in the wrong one.

Based on that assumption we can actually make decision on long term investing or short term.

For the volatile market along with the fact that we don’t even know who is behind the project or who is running the finances it’s always a risk for long term investment.

Generally, if we talk about investment whether it was long-term or short-term still it corresponds to risks. But the good thing about holding term especially if you are investing potential coin like Bitcoin it removes your stress from what you have seen in daily market changes because you know that your invested coin will grow in the future.

But why do many people make it hard and become impossible? It is because holding long-term is not their comfort, and worries still in their mind that influence their decision and weaken their courage.

I don't know what others think, but I feel that cryptocurrency is not an asset for long-term investment due to its extreme volatility. Even if we need to use it for the long term, use a very small portion of it. Cryptocurrency is mainly an asset where your position needs to be validated constantly. Get in at the right time, get out at the right time, and re-enter at the right time again. That's what should be the ideal workflow of crypto investment unless and until you have cryptos hoarded since 2009.

I always try to re-position myself in the crypto market rather than keeping my coins idle. I sell when the market is hot and high, I re-enter when it's cold. I make profit along the way!

The volatility will make them very cautious of the market especially when the bull run reaches its peak, they all wanna get out. For short-term investors, I think they get out, leave the market and wait for the prices to start claiming again.

For long-term investors, leave crypto and DCAing or buy the coins and tokens that they think had bottomed because they accumulate more of it. The investors of ETH and BTC who bought at a price of less than $5, may have more in thier holdings after every cycle.

Do you want to know why cryptocurrencies are good for long-term investment?

Remember you are talking about cryptocurrency for a longtime and not specifically on btc. For cryptocurrency I don't think there is much of a difference between short and long time investment. Take the example of ripple, it is almost like stagnant after a long while and gaining little that will see it slightly over $1. Moreover I have some shitcoins for a while now and they never increase but only decrease and some get delisted. I can only believe in bitcoin for a longtime, etheruem or binance because of the exchange.

It should be specified with bitcoin first and then choose the altcoin you think is good for the long term. But, there are many choices that you and others can say. But for me, personally, my long term investment in altcoins are Ethereum and BNB. I'm trying to hold others too but they're like just the typical lottery type of altcoins so that's okay to lose with those. And for the main choice, as per my experience, it's none other than bitcoin. People will argue about it that there are other altcoins that are more profitable than it but still, the main topic is all about investing in crypto so, choose your crypto.

I think the quoted tips for long-term investment make sense, aside from the fact that people still judge the future by the past because there's no other reasonable thing to build one's predictions on. As for the additional thoughts, I wouldn't call long-term investment 'not risky', as there's a big risk if it's an altcoin that can just crash and never come back, but considerable risk with Bitcoin as well because nothing ensure that there won't be one bear market from which it never recovers. And then on compound return, staking cryptos on a centralized platform involves a big risk which was demonstrated well by FTX. Maybe those small interest rates aren't worth it.
And overall, I'd just stick to Bitcoin to minimise the risk.

I disagree on using the long time frame to reduce the assessment on investing in crypto. Not because you are holding for a long time doesn’t mean you are investing on less risky way. We are talking about e years here which is very long and there’s a tons of opportunities to make profit using rather than wait than long for an investment that doesn’t guarantee a huge return. Many project even the old one sometimes suffers suffer a huge loss for that long period of time.

Luna is the best example here. Luna is very strong blockchain project during 2019 but still fall to current worthless value due to there CEO incompetency. If you manage to buy this coin and hold long term you will suffer both money loss and wasted time.

The long time frame is probably applicable only on Bitcoin to validate the idea of less risk on longer time frame investment due to its proven price history for a long time.

* Not Risky

Maybe a better term is "less risky". Although we do know how volatile cryptocurrencies are compared to stocks, forex, gold, and real estate, at least responsible long-term investments negate the effects of constant ups and downs in the market. But I will never call long-term cryptocurrency investing not risky. If it is not risky at all then there is no need to create tips like watching its volatility and investing only a portion we can afford to lose. If there is no risk, then we can just all-in invest all our funds allocated for long-term goals.

Cryptocurrency is indeed good for long-term investment but not all of them.  we must filter among the newly launched and old crypto projects which one is promising and has the potential.  The condition of the cryptocurrency market is still unstable so we must do our best to point out which one will stay and which one will turn scam and run away with our money.  It is quite difficult to point them out perfectly because some scam projects are too good in mimicking the good one.  While other projects, like FTX and Terra Luna, appear to be promising and stable but collapse in just a short period of time.  So I think we need to be vigilant, and updated, and know when to exit when investing in cryptocurrency even though our main goal is to hold them for the long term.

Among these cryptocurrencies, I can only see one that has proven itself several times and is really good for long-term investment and that is Bitcoin.

I disagree on using the long time frame to reduce the assessment on investing in crypto. Not because you are holding for a long time doesn’t mean you are investing on less risky way. I agree and think that most cryptocurrency is not suitable for long-term investment, but there is one that can provide us a profit when holding it long-term.  Bitcoin has proven itself to be a good investment for years of holding.  So we can just ignore all cryptocurrencies except Bitcoin for a long-term investment.

Every investment has risk especially with this technology wherein cryptocurrencies are having too volatile market value. The prices move from time to time and that includes both upward and downward direction. Long term investments might save an investor from a higher degree of worry because if you are in short term investment, you'd be more attended with every pump and dump unlikely with long term investors which are setting timeframe of when to enter or exit. But as mentioned, risks are still there. Long term investments are also prone to huge losses because you won't be pulling out your asset on a small dump, problem is there are times red marks are becoming long and continuous, so be cautious of it if you are planning to engage with long term investment.

Yes, that should be the correct term, every investment has risk involved, and so much with crypto because of it's volatility as compare to stocks and other assets. The thing with crypto though is that it's cyclical, meaning that every 4 years we might see a good returns on our investments.

And long term? it could be defined as 1 year or 4 year or 10 year hold, so it's really up to the individuals on how he/she will look at what long term investment mean.

For the criteria for altcoins, it's going to be difficult as we can see even one of the biggest FTC collapses.

As much as you decide to invest, you are also dealing with its risks. So if you chose those altcoins and meme coins over the potential bitcoin, it will only heighten the risk and increase your chance of losing. That is why if you go for long term investment, you will lessen the risk but increase the potentials of yielding higher rewards. And investing for long term with a much profitable and safest investment in crypto which is bitcoin, with 3 to 4 years of hodling, you can expect maximum profits given that long period of time.

While generally safer, it still carries risk with it, although with that time-frame you could easily bypass any such losses along the way since you will not sell during those periods anyway. Also, if you're planning to invest long-term, your buy-in on the crypto you wanted will be averaged, so that once you decided to sell all of those you'll easily get an idea whether to sell it now for less profit or keep on holding on. Risks will always be there, though time acts as a cushion to dampen the fall IMO if the crypto you invested in turned out not to be as good as you initially expected it to be.

Long term holding gives an outlook of being on the safer side, yet there's risk as mentioned. The market is completely unpredictable, which could drag the market bullish or bearish in no time. So, if we've invested at the peak then sure this is going to be high risk even at the bullish market. Based on how we react to market changes the goodness of the market can be experienced.

While I think this is a good post this is the part I do not agree with, long term investing is less risky but it still carries risk, for example if you invest in a shitcoin then it does not matter that you hold it for the long term since at some point during that time it will crash to zero, and even if you hold good assets like bitcoin or gold which will most likely never crash that hard, there is still a risk as it can take a long time to recover your initial investment, and if during that time you are forced to sell by some unforeseen circumstances then you will lose money, but other than that you did a good job with this post.

Exactly. Not all projects are worth for long-term investment or good to hold for the long term.
This is already proven over time with Bitcoin and other altcoins. Try to use an example Bitcoin versus other altcoins or new altcoin that popped few years ago, that altcoin popped few years ago are already not on the spot where it was before, while Bitcoin is still there.

Any investment corresponds to risk. Not all crypto projects are suitable for long-term holding.
Long-term holding of cryptocurrencies may only be possible with Bitcoin. Bitcoin has proven over the years to be a profitable investment, investing in it and holding it for a long time can provide us with profits.
For more altcoins, there must be more research, choose a currency with potential in the market and buy and sell at the right time, reducing investment risks and losses.

I appreciate your post, but the current state of the crypto market is very different. The effect of the FTX collapse is very influential investors on the crypto world today.

The FTX crash, which sent shockwaves through the cryptocurrency industry and made investors wary of trading in unregulated markets without understanding the risks.

Although prices have been rising slowly or stagnant over the last few months. Several major factors, including the need for increased regulation and higher transaction fees, are likely to hinder the further growth of this crypto market.

The question is whether or not investors will continue to support them during these cumulative times. If they do, we could see another spike in Bitcoin's valuation in the near future.

* Not Risky

   - I stand corrected for this you've mentioned Sir, thanks for the heads up. I just posted the wrong term for this one, anyway long term is good only if anyone are sure about the coin that will give a nice profit in the future. And the risk might only come in if you feel doubt about the coins you'd like to buy and at the end of the day you still like to invest in it.

That is why the portion of invest what we can afford to lose is very suitable for the long term in my own assessment and perception as well.

It's about investing in a currency that you actually own irrespective of how much its value could be because of the volatility. Because that's what you invest in. Not just because of the price consideration.

You investing in USD/EUR today and you might actually see its price dipper when the inflation finally runs away. And the fact that they are in a bank account or stablecoins that are on the ETH network where can be seized, that's riskier.

I would totally agree with you if you only talked about bitcoins and no other cryptocurrencies. However, if you said that altcoins are also suitable for long-term investment, I would disagree with your statement. Altcoins can also give us big profits, but they only last for a while or cannot sustain their growth. They are not like bitcoins that always recover from a drop. Many say that holding top altcoins will generate profits, but they still need to learn that, over time, the top altcoins will be replaced by newer altcoins.
Long-term investing is only true for bitcoin, not for altcoins.

From what I see in OP's topic, he only shows and explains what can be benefits and criteria if you are a class of long-term investors here in the world of crypto. And in addition to that, OP also shared based on his experience how to chosse and gave a criteria in a cryptocurrency although he did not say or specify what crypto is good for long-term investment.

There is truth in what he said in his statement and there is a point as well, it is a given that bitcoin is leading in long-term investing.
Now, when it comes to another cryptocurrency, it is not correct that others say that bitcoin is only one good for long-term investment, for me this is a wrong belief and view as a crypto enthusiast.

Because I see a lot of altcoins (alternative coins) that have the potential to be held long-term and I know that the rest of us here also know that. And all cryptocurrencies as well have an attached risk, maybe just different in the percentage level of crypto.

As long the long-term for me is good and as long as I am ready to lose the capital that I will use here, because what I look at in the long term are positive things and there is no room for negative thoughts, even knowing if there is a risk.

Good day to all the community here in this forum, Do you want to know why cryptocurrencies are good for long-term investment? Why is it okay to invest in the long-term and what are the strategies and criteria to choose cryptos that we can invest in?
Cryptocurrency also means altcoins, for me it's still risky no need to explain about all the drama that appears in altcoins but it proves that long term in cryptocurrency is very risky and I don't like it, even though the coin is listed on major exchanges it's still not a guarantee that investing long termcrypto will be safe, when investing in long term in altcoins it will be better to prepare yourself for big losses than big profits unless we can choose the right coin.

I thought being a trader is a good idea for me since I am working and I want to add my source of income. I tried to learn basic future trading and started my execution last August 2022. I gathered 40 dollars for my first try and I was so happy because I thought that it would be easy on me.

Until my beginners luck ended. I became greed and invested my 300 dollars in margin. Unfortunately, my position was liquidated. Until now, I don't know what to do to regain my losses. Luckily, I have spot position and staking assets for long term. Now I am planning to be in a long term hold than a shorter one.

I've been there in cryptocurrency for almost 5 years yet I don't have luck. Every time I hold my position, something bad happened to my life. And before, I didn't have job. But right now that I am working in abroad. I have a chance to hold for five years my cryptocurrency. Hopefully, this time I will become successful.

I agree that crypto investment is still risky whether it bee in long or short-term investment, however, some people see an opportunity of accumulating their crypto assets even if it is Bitcoin when the market is dipping rather than hodling through the season so that they can buy back at a lower price and not necessarily because of weakness. A long-term investment is good if you are the type that doesn't have time to monitor the market along with the noise that comes with it.

Even if you spend much time watching the market, long-term investing is much better than short-term, long-term investments are less risky than short-term investments. As we all know, bitcoin is unpredictable, and chart analysis will only be partially correct, not giving 100% accurate results, so short-term investments will sometimes lose. I am also a long term investor, not a trader, I still follow the news daily, and I did the right thing. Following the market closely helped me capitalize on the FTX crash, and I bought some bitcoin for $15.7k, a price that will be hard to see again in the future.

No, you can't say that because in some cases short-term investing gives more profit. Just look into hyped projects, they are meant for the short-term but as you can see, many people got involved with this even though it was risky because they are certain about earning a profit without waiting for Bullrun. Even long-term investment gives you losses but that will only happen upon investing shitcoins. If you are doing a long-term deal, make sure that you are investing the right coins, otherwise, losses are what you get in the end.

Long-term investment in cryptocurrency is actually a double-edged sword. I can attest to this with my own personal experiences. I have actually accumulated many altcoins in 2017. A number of them multiplied in price after weeks and months, but I stayed loyal to them, didn't sell, and decided to keep them for a longer term. They all seem promising. Little did I know that almost all of them are actually short-lived. Corrections happen after corrections. Eventually they all hit the bottom and weren't able to recover from there.

The lesson is not to go for long-term plans with your altcoins. Treat them as hypes or trends. Most of them are ephemeral. Bitcoin is the best choice in the end.

There is always a statement that it doesn't matter if they bought it when the price was at the highest price possible and when they hold it for 4 - 5 years the price went down and difficult to reach at that point again.
For example to people who bought it at Nov 2021 when the price was at $66.000+, they need to wait until to reach that point again to sell it with reasonable profit. People should take that into an account before doing long-term investment. Don't invest it once it reaches ATH, if you want to reduce the stress because of price drops.

To be fair, bitcoin is the best long term investment but altcoins are still good for long term investments and I won't say that there are many but very few and rare altcoins that can be invested for the long term. More realistically, look at CMC, only ETH is the only altcoin that has existed with bitcoin over the years, the remaining topcoins have all been replaced or disappeared from the market. In the case of choosing altcoins for long-term investment, I will only choose ETH and BNB, the rest is really not worth holding long-term.

Short-term investment is like trading so I don't do that anymore, it's too stressful for me. I do choose long-term investment instead but it have to be a good project to maximize the profits in the long run. Out of ten that I picked way before the dump this year, I can still say I made profits from altcoins on the top 50.
I'd rather stick with what was recommended by the rankings that add more risk in finding gems that may end up just scams or rugpull projects.

Obviously, a long-term investment should coincide with market cycles. Thus, the start of investments should be at the end of the bear market and continue until the end of the bull market. And in order to get the maximum profit, it is necessary to choose correctly not only the coin, but also the investment time.

Cryptos are really underestimated when it comes to long term investments. People shows more trust on FDs, SIPs and golds for long term investment. I mean they do it so as they don’t have complete knowledge on the cryptos. Cryptos can really be a great asset to invest for long term. And if we compare the history stats, then definitely the investors have got more than 100x profits in some years. I completely agree that the risk involved is pretty high, but guess what the returns is also high. Now we need to just analyse the risk and invest accordingly for long term in these brilliant cryptos.

It has registered tremendous growth during the past 15 years. But we need to be very choosy in picking crypto assets, Bitcoin and Ethereum are considered best investments for long term but make good research before investing in all other projects.

However, most experienced investors already knew which altcoins they would be investing in, whereas newcomers will always buy bitcoin because it is well-known and provides a guaranteed profit in the long run. If you don't want to hold a bitcoin, the top five altcoins are the best to invest in because they are safe and secure. For the time being, avoid new coins because they are not safe and usually die after a few months, unlike well-known and established coins where you can get news every day and keep track on a daily basis.

You can't say which coin will go up high in the future, because that coin may not grow to be that big, however you can share what kind of coin could go up, and that would be a lot better.

I personally have my own understanding that bitcoin-ethereum-bnb trio will always go up, but is there a guarantee to that? Of course not, so that means maybe the idea is that you should invest into already trusted coins, according to my portfolio at least, some may think otherwise and say something else. All in all, it is the idea that we should invest into, not the coin itself and that way we could make a good return for sure, it would be very profitable for all.

Otherwise i agree and you have good points but not with one of them

Why does it have to be top market? They might as well could have reached their top value or their growth rate could be very slow as they don't have much room to grow compared to small caps. The fact that something is high doesn't mean it could last several years. (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5418571.msg61196924#msg61196924)

2. Remember, the past is past
Also, what does this mean? Because it sounds like you are ignoring past somehow. We can learn from the past. That's the only thing we can learn experience from. Also from the past we usually know what kind of tech we should invest to in long term.

Every investment has its own risks, but there is quite advantage if you do it for long term because aside of reducing the risk, the returns or profits are much bigger than short term duration. But of course, if you invest in long term, make sure to invest in those coins with high potentials particular with bitcoin. Although the risk is quite bigger due to its high volatility, but we all know the volatility of bitcoin keeps us being thrilled and excited to gain higher rewards in the process.

1. Understand what you’re investing in.
----------
* Less Risky - Because you have only invested in the market for the long term, You just term or hold, there's nothing to get rid of and you can't opportunities will miss out on the market because they have invested,
These two things should be closely related. Long-term holding will be less risky when we know what we are investing. We will get very worthy holding results if we only have top coins. And here, I'm just thinking about Bitcoin. And even if I want to look at altcoins, maybe only Ethereum and BNB. For other altcoins, this will be very risky, especially after the LUNA tragedy. So, know in advance whatever we invest. Don't let us do long-term holding on shit coins which will actually result in dead coins.

Crypto Criteria for Long-Term Investing
Sometimes, scam projects or shit projects also have prepared their projects to be good enough, they may be good at all of these lists. But finally, they are worth nothing after several periods. If we are investing in the next projects, nothing will guarantee although they always promise high profits. We cannot trust them 100% because sometimes, too-good-to-be-true projects are also worrying.

and so far, this is only true for btc. when it comes to alts particularly new ones, i don't think it is good for them to consider as less risky for long-term investments, when in fact most of them have short lifespan. as we have seen, most alts decline their value few months after they were introduced in the trading market. only few or those top alts have shown strong position in the market.

When we talk about investments, whether for the long or short term, there are always dangers associated with those investments. But the advantage of holding for the long term, particularly if you are investing in a potential coin such as Bitcoin, is that it frees you from the stress caused by the daily changes in the market because you are confident that the coin in which you have invested will increase in value in the future.

Long term investment is stress free while short term investment is stressful but more profitable.

Long-term investing doesn't work with altcoins, it works better with Bitcoin.

Investing in Bitcoin guarantees profits in the long run. While altcoins can also bring us huge profits, many tokens only exist for a while. So in some cases, short-term investing in altcoins can be more profitable.

Long-term holding could have some benefits - earning a huge profit is likely possible.
But also, you can't underestimate new coins that usually just pump in short-term (x1000) which becomes the favorite of some investors.
It seems important to know how to assess a certain project to invest in because even though it was belong to the top 10 or top 20 coins in the CMC, we can't assure that holding them long-term will give huge rewards. Unless we invest in Bitcoin and Ethereum as we know the capabilities of these coins for many years.

I would also add socials to this as well. It doesn't mean just because a place has 50k followers then it equals to a successful project, of course anything with a lot of followers could still fail. However, it is also important to note that anything with no followers will definitely fail, there is no doubt about that at all. Just because a place has 50k+ followers doesn't mean it will profit you, but if it has 50 followers then it will DEFINITELY not profit you.

So, you should always check that before you invest into a project, and see if they have any or not, having none means that it's not going to be a good project and that will be a trouble for you for sure.

* Easy - So, because it's less stressful, this kind of investing is easier, you don't need to be an expert or a good trader. You know how to analyze, signals, charts, and more. That's why you don't need those because you will only invest once, or if you always do something simple and that is just buying buy.
It's easier compared to being an active trader. But it doesn't mean there's a guaranteed profit since investing for long term is also risky. That's why before you invest it's important that you know what you're doing and aware of the possible situation that can happen. Take time to learn and do a research for the coins that you would like to invest in because a good coin is unlikely to be delisted in exchanges and will not turn to zero value if it is established and has a real use case. So don't just blindly invest because it's your hard-earned money that you will put at risk.

If we want big profits then we have to be patient and make it a long term target, most people are impatient so they immediately sell assets when they see a profit of 10% or less, as long as what we hold is top ranking coins then long term holding will be profitable.

We only need to choose the right coin to invest preferably those that are only recently starting and we need to make sure that they are legit and they're actually making development and updates to give their investors satisfaction and tranquility for their heart about their investment in their project. Because holding for long is a huge challenge and only a few people are courageous enough to do that. Because when they see the temptation of hype in other coins, others will rush to migrate to those projects and sometimes they made a good decision but some of them failed because they invested in the pump-and-dump project.

I do agree with how long-term investment is better for the vast majority of people, especially new ones, if you're capable enough then taking the risks of short-term investments instead would probably prove to be the best. Not to mention that long-term investments have a different type of risk compared to short-term ones, wouldn't really call it less risky but rather there's just more time for you to manage your portfolio since it's for the long term.

I reckon you still need some semblance of being a good trader, you are still going to understand what the investment you're going for is about after all, and whether or not it would actually last that long for your investment to bear fruit.

Both long term and short term has their own advantages and disadvantages so don't just say that one of them is only better while the other is the best. The advantage of long term investing is that it allows you to earn more profit but the disadvantage of it is that it may take a long time for the price to pump. In short term investing, there's less waiting time but there's also less potential in terms of gains.

When investing we don't just buy but it's important to pick the coins properly. We can do this by analysing. A signal is also useful as it can tell us if it's now ready to sell. Last but not the least is the chart. It gives us an overview of how the coins perform.

Good day to all the community here in this forum, Do you want to know why cryptocurrencies are good for long-term investment? Why is it okay to invest in the long-term and what are the strategies and criteria to choose cryptos that we can invest in?

Thanks for your write up. That really contained a lot of information especially for people that are new to this space. I have always been the long term hodler type of crypto investor, even though i know that you can make more profit if you are actively trading, but this also automatically means that you can also make way more mistakes and the chances that you are losing your investment completely is way higher than if you just buy and hold for a longer time. I think that the current market conditions are good to invest into projects that are already established because now you get them for like 1/5th of the price that we had to pay a year ago or so.

Altcoins are just considered clones from bitcoin, so they can never survive for long term as clones are just good at the start but become obsolete later on. But with bitcoin, long term investing will prove its utility cases and will gain more users because of that. And that bitcoin long term investing will increase the chance to gain guaranteed profits especially when the market is already in bullish season.

Long-term is ideal with most but short terms are more likely with the newbies because they're at the learning stage and after experiencing it, they'll summarize and have a conclusion that long-term investments are really the best choice.
Yeah, it's not a risk-free strategy but you're able to mitigate the risk and you can mend some of your losses depending on how you'll react to the market based on what it is currently showing. Needless to say, on a personal note, long-term did me well and thought me how to become disciplined in investments.

This is a dilemma to say that long-term investment in altcoins is less risky. Because we learn from LUNA. Long-term investment may end on the dead coin. We know that many new projects are commonly shit coins. And we cannot guarantee the top altcoins will last forever or not. That is why investing for long-term periods doesn't mean that we don't do anything and just leave them in our wallets. We must also see the progress of the projects, and see the situation including if there is FUD or not. Because once we are too late to know the FUD, we may lose our money even if we have invested for a long time. Please, learn from what happened to FTX and also Luna so far.
I agree if we are doing long-term investment for Bitcoin, yeah, this is will less risky than altcoins.

Newbies due to their lack of knowledge prefer short term trading over long term investing, and they have this preference because of the higher profits they can supposedly get by trading, but what they choose to ignore is that only a very small minority of traders get those profits while the rest get losses, and it is not until they begin to lose money they realize their mistake and then they try to switch to long term investing, however after losing so much money when trading the markets it is difficult for them to hold their coins for long enough to get profits in this market.

When the market is dropping like now let's think positively, if we look at the price chart that has happened a few years ago then things like this are commonplace, in 2018 the price of ETH once reached more than $ 1000 then dropped to below $ 100 in end of 2018, and I sold all ETH when the price was around $280, now the price of ETH is also dropping and almost similar to a few years ago.

The best token suitable for long-term investment is Bitcoin, and its development history of more than ten years has proved this point. Even in a bear market, Bitcoin is still in an upward trend from its appearance to now.
The market is completely unpredictable and highly volatile. Not all cryptocurrencies are very long-term investments, and decisions about long-term or short-term investments should be made based on research on the tokens.

Yes, but to correct you, Bitcoin is not a token, it's the top crypto that's why as you have described it, the best investment. And even if we are in the bear market, you can still make money out of it. Although the best approach is to buy cheap thru DCA and hold for the next bull run.

True, not all cryptos are created the same, some are best for long term, and then there are due to pump and dump scheme in this market, it could be used for short term only. And once you make money, then rinse and repeat, look for the next crypto to pump.

Yeah, they think of the market as a short term market only so they want to extract as much as they can with as soon as possible mindset. They think that the market is going nowhere so if there's a chance that they can make money from it, they want to take the advantage of having that mindset of being short term on it.

however after losing so much money when trading the markets it is difficult for them to hold their coins for long enough to get profits in this market.
It's because they're panicking and they're still at the beginning that they need to gain more experience so, they know what's happening in the market and it's going to recover soon.

Therefore, we have to be aware of the situation that one day, the market prices will drop, that one day the price of these known coins like BTC and ETH will turn down like before. Yet, we carry the confidence that one day these coins will also turn back high. That is why many people have the courage to hold long-term and that is because they trust crypto and believe that they won't be disappointed. In fact, as you mentioned last 2018, everything is down but looked, the market hits another ATH last year. This means that the market never stays low forever but surely there is recovery.

A good project usually takes at least 2 years to enter the top or top 50, if there is a new project that has not been a year but has entered the top 50 then we must be vigilant, maybe the developer has a sponsor who continues to pump so that the time will come for them to sell all their stock that is there so it will drop.

I wish I knew this earlier. Long-term investment is a lot less stress free and things are a lot easier when we are talking about not looking at the prices every 5 minutes. People do not realize this of course, and that causes a little bit of trouble, but the reality is that the best thing we could do is long term investment.

It is both good in practice, because you do nothing but just buy and nothing else, very easy, takes 5 minutes max and then for years you do NOTHING, and easy on stress, because it could crash and you don't have to care since you won't sell now, and easy on results because price always goes up at some point, even if it crashes along the way. You basically get the best out of everything.

even though indirectly it is very risky and more stressful when every time you have to see the price of the coin you are holding.
some people also don't realize that long term investment is actually more profitable and more comfortable especially if we hold the right coin like top 10 in coinmarketcap.

to be honest, after I experienced for myself how easy it is to invest long-term and greatly minimize the risk of selling too fast and high prices when the bullish season arrives.

Long-term investment may make investors safer, but it is also vulnerable to huge losses, and risks still exist.
The market is highly volatile and any investment is risky. For long-term investors, Bitcoin is more suitable. Investing in it for the long term will increase your chances of making a profit when the market returns to a bull market.

But if it's about investing in bitcoin, I am okay with holding on to it long-term because it will surely go up high in the future. But not many can handle it well because they are still provoked by negative news, making them not think about holding it for the long term. They could be triggered to immediately sell bitcoin, especially since several cases have exploded like the FTX case yesterday. This makes bitcoin temporarily lose its stability and will crash as we see now. But this is only temporary, and bitcoin will increase again when the time comes.

Long-term investing is much more comfortable than trading or speculating, but it depends on the asset you choose to hold. I don't think holding ten top coins will make you feel comfortable, I mean investing in altcoins shouldn't be considered long-term. If you were a victim of the Luna or FTX crash, you wouldn't consider altcoins a safe long-term investment. For this market, long term investment is only correct if your portfolio is bitcoin, the rest is not suitable for long term investment.

Yes! Bitcoin is not a token it is coin because it has its own block chain, and it operates on it, whereas tokens are also digital asset but don't have their own block chain and they are issued by using existing networks.

For long term holding, Bitcoin is the best digital asset and historical track record of its performance , has proved it again and again.

I think it is not easy to identify the end of bear or bull cycle with 100% accuracy but what we have learnt from our experience that Bitcoin usually falls 80-85% from its all time high before it starts recovering, Hence we should start accumulation around that level and continue buying on every dip. This is what I think is right strategy based on historical trend of Bitcoin but it is not necessary that history always repeats itself.

Invest in Bitcoin with long term vision and relax, no need to follow current trends or watch trading screen on daily basis to see how market is performing because most of market experts think putting your money in Bitcoin is the best investment because it has increased its worth over period of time because its supply is limited, and it will shrink with every halving. Next halving is likely to happen in 2024 when Bitcoin is likely to make new ATH, as per prediction of most of market analysts.

That's why before we start investing in a project, we should research and find more information about the project to find the right one. But that also doesn't guarantee we can invest in the right project, especially if the project can't last long in the market. Only projects like bitcoin can last a long time in the market and altcoin or other projects will come and go to fill the market according to the trends that will come next.

And if you know when to get out of investing in one project, you may be able to take big profits when the price of the coin or token increases so that you can move on to another, more promising project. But always use bitcoins as your main investment because the price of bitcoins will increase in the future.

For long-term investment, you will not panic because of short-term price fluctuations. Although you may make less money than in the short term, the long term is safer than short term investing (provided you are investing in value coins, not meme coins). You can spend more time analyzing market conditions.

To do DCA requires sufficient capital strength, so financial management is needed. within the specified time, buy the crypto regularly that you want to invest. Whatever the price, I will continue to buy regularly. In general, it's like saving and investing in crypto. Long-term investment: An investment held for more than 5 years. Although few people say that they are short-term investors, there are actually many such people! In the context of long-term investment, entrepreneurs may invest in strategies, research, or some projects that have high personal returns, but shareholders expect relatively low monetary returns.

Long-term investments should coincide with the cycles that are caused by bear and bull markets. Thus, it is necessary to make investments at the end of the bear market and the beginning of the bull market, and after reaching high, it is necessary to sell your coins and wait for the start of a new cycle.

It is not easy but it is also irrelevant to try to identify the bottom of market, when you look at the charts it is very easy to think that if you bought at the bottom then not only you could maximize your profits, you will also be able to hold your coins and never face a day in which you will be losing money, but not only this is unrealistic it is also something impossible to do, so we need to create a strategy that allow us to profit from the markets without the need for such a precise prediction.

Whatever the price, I will continue to buy regularly. In general, it's like saving and investing in crypto. As long as finances are still safe, DCA will continue to be implemented until the main price target is achieved. Bitcoin is a recommended investment for the long term using the DCA strategy.

No doubt sufficient funds are needed to accumulate Bitcoins by using DCA strategy, but it is equally important to make buying only on major dips (I think 20% dip is good opportunity) because if we continue buying on every small dip, then obviously we will run out of funds quickly and miss out big buying opportunities. Hence, DCA strategy should be used wisely and with patience in bear market because we never know where the bottom is.

For long-term investment, you will not panic because of short-term price fluctuations. Although you may make less money than in the short term, the long term is safer than short term investing (provided you are investing in value coins, not meme coins). You can spend more time analyzing market conditions.

You will not panic only if you do not follow the price changes in the cryptocurrency market. If you regularly monitor the change in the value of your deposit, then you will be just as upset that it is decreasing as other traders. Now you may be upset that you could have bought more bitcoins if you hadn't done it a few months earlier.

Panicking will only hinder you to be successful in trading. Cryptocurrency is too volatile and the prices aren't constant so the drop in prices might only make you feel doubtful if you'll keep on monitoring the market from time to time. If you enter trading, you have to make sure that you're also emotionally prepared and will have enough patience until you reach your target profit. It will take a lot of patience so you really have to trust the process.

If you have the habit of panicking or short patience, Investing and trading is not for you. I believe that regularly monitoring the price change isn't wrong if you are an investor or trader. It would depend on how you manage yourself on the outcome of your monitoring. A good investor always have a good plan on their mind before putting up money on their investment, Monitoring it is a good thing in my opinion knowing that you can track what is happening to your investment and if it is going according to your plans. Panicking on a small price changes are just a newbie reaction especially we are on crypto where most of the tokens are volatile. When dips happen, True investors accumulate more and position themselves in a state where they can possibly get a profit long term.

Good investors are not born, good investors become. If you lack patience, you should start to develop it with different practices, but this does not mean that now the way to investing and trading is closed for such a person. Many habits and skills are developed over time and I strongly doubt that a person who wants to get into trading or investing needs to have the right set of skills and habits at once. There are barely 10 people out of every 1,000 newbies who already have these skills. The rest will have to develop them. So I don't agree that if I'm not good at controlling my patience right now, then investing is definitely not for me.

long term or short term investment. I think it's the same, because there are also many people who invest in crypto for the long term but instead experience losses, for example long-term investments in ftx, and so on. and many people who lose for long-term investment because of investing in the crypto.
but indeed investment can not be separated from the name of risk. So I think for a long term investment. it has to be in bitcoin while for altcoins in my opinion, ethereum, bnb, and, xrp.

It is true that long term investment is not successful in every project, that's why cherry picking is important, choose only good ones and reject bad ones. I strongly believe that investment is the art of rejection, not selection. We should filter out all bad projects to reach a good one before we decide to make investment, which requires intensive research work.

Like Ethereum which has been very successful project because of its strong use case, POLKADOT also has huge number of projects on its ecosystem which is its strong point, and it may outperform in the next bull run. I think we should also hold it for long term. DYOR

The most important thing is the main target price to be achieved, hold and stick to the main goal, and it will be more profitable.

It can also be used in another cryptocurrency that you are sure has the potential to provide good income in the future such as Ethereum, Bnb, and others like it.

For some of the altcoins, you say like ETH and BNB are the top altcoins that have the potential to improve, but it doesn't rule out that these altcoins will also crash when bitcoin crashes and will be bullish when given the opportunity to recover when the altcoin season arrives.
do everything with the right strategy and take everything into account.

Probably the biggest problem newbies have with DCA is that it is a strategy that requires a long term commitment before you see any profits, and patience is not something that is cultivated  and promoted on the young people anymore, since everyone wants everything now and if they do not get it they get mad about it, however for the few which can execute the DCA strategy then the profits will be huge once the bull market comes, and the best part is that as you practice this strategy and the months pass then the easier it becomes, so if you can maintain this for years and we pair this with the natural growth of bitcoin over the years the results you will get will be far better than any profits you can get in other markets.

When investing in cryptocurrency for the long term, it usually implies that even if you bought at the worst possible time and held for a very long time, you still made a profit each year. By simply holding long-term investments.

it depends on what cryptoqurrency you invest, i believe if you hold bitcoin in long term it will not make you lose. but if you invest in the top altcoins at least you can get profit in a certain term, it is important you need to monitor too so you don't miss the opportunity to sell.

The premise of long-term investing in altcoins is investing in valuable coins. If you invest in a coin with low value now, and after a period of time, your price does not rise, then your investment is equivalent to worthless, and it is better not to invest. Portfolios can be used for investment, so the risk is relatively small. I'm used to investing in Bitcoin for the long term because I know the value of Bitcoin will go up. I have relatively few long-term investment projects in altcoins.

It's true that it may be difficult to determine the exact market bottom, and that expecting to constantly purchase at the bottom and avoid losses is unreasonable. I do believe that we can still develop a plan that will enable us to benefit from the markets without placing an undue emphasis on timing the bottom.

For instance, we may develop a plan to purchase progressively over time rather than aiming to buy precisely at the bottom. Setting up a regular program to buy lesser quantities of coins on a weekly or monthly basis might accomplish this. In this method, we may benefit from price changes and market swings while still average out our purchase price. This method may also assist us in creating a portfolio of currencies that we feel secure owning for an extended period of time.

In the end, a smart investing strategy is building a diversified portfolio, doing independent research, and having the self-control to adhere to your course of action despite brief market changes. We can all make wise judgments and be successful investors with a well-thought-out plan and the correct mindset.

If you're talking about cryptocurrency in general, then I can say for sure that it doesn't work that way. Most altcoins, even if you hold them for a long time, will not increase their value, but on the contrary may decrease even more in price. For this reason, you should invest in time-tested coins and, first of all, in bitcoin.

Not all cryptocurrencies are suitable for long-term investment. Cryptocurrencies are volatile and carry certain risks. Long-term investment is more suitable for Bitcoin. It will increase in value over time, and holding it for the long term can reduce risk and add higher returns.

If you could invest long term with whatever you have, that is going to be pretty much something that you could always have a feeling about and I think it would be something quite difficult to handle.

I am not saying it is going to be easy or anything like that, but at the  very least we are talking about something that would be impossible to get away from if you make money once. Think about it this way, lets say you bought bitcoin at 1k and somehow managed to hold it until it is 20k, would you sell at that point? You made so much already, why not wait some more? It's harder when you first start, but eventually it gets easier and easier, and I think will be done.

I think what you are saying there is that investors will always think about their assets? Well, why not? It happens especially if someone invest in a highly volatile asset like crypto. We can't help it but worry sometimes. Much more if you risk the money that's not within your capacity but if it's only a small amount then this can be prevented.

In the example that you have given, I don't even think that someone can reach that high ($20k) if they start with $1k only but I believe many of us have sold early before we ever saw that price. That's not wrong than completely missing the selling opportunity. It only becomes wrong if you sell early and then incur a loss.

Long-term holding is really difficult for a person who has no plan to do it. Because it was not just all about saying "I will hold" but also, it really matters how we respond to the market changes, some got influenced by FUDs and sell their coins.

It was pretty easy if we have multiple sources of income as it certainly doesn't have any reason to touch our crypto investment and sell them not in perfect time. But based on your cited example, I have to sell my Bitcoin as well. Waiting for more is somewhat called it greediness because having a $19k increase is already huge money and profit that we can't just ignore.

This is the type of holders who regrets in the end. Holding long term is easier than said, It requires a decent decipline to hold for a long time what may ever happens to the original plan. Imagine for those who don't have plan who are trying to hold, These are the type of people who are gotten shaken up by the market when it suddenly dumps big time.

This is why we should rely purely on cryptocurrency given that it is mostly a volatile asset and we don't have an assurance that the income we get can feed us everyday or the means of living. Relying on it will most likely put you on many dilemma on selling it on a loss just to sustain yourself. Always stick to your plan if you are confident with it and believing on it. I've been there regretting my past moves by selling and not following my plan.

It is not easy to invest for a long time (min 3 years) according to Op. For you to invest in long term purposes means you will fulfill some conditions as;
1. You should be somewhat financially stable such that you will not have to tamper your investment when it's not ripe.
2. You should be holding the right coin, else your investment can disappear into tin air.
3. You should have a good means to save your coins so that you won't be hacked in the end.
4. You need also be patient with your investment.
If you don't fulfill some of theses criteria, you may not be successful in long term investment.

Ease of mind is one of the other things. I do not need to worry about the ups and downs, that's good. I have plenty of things in my life, work and real life problems are already taking up 7/24 of my life, sometimes I can't even sleep, my life is not doing so great right now and I am having psychological issues because of that anyway. So, that means if I add the stress of trading altcoins or doing anything about them, that would be even worse and I would feel terrible, I would basically be over the edge at that point.

Hence, having a long term investment where I don't even check the prices is great, I have zero clue how much my portfolio worths today, I literally have no clue what bitcoin worths today, haven't checked in days, that's the great thing about long term investment, it gives me freedom to ignore it.

Good day to all the community here in this forum, Do you want to know why cryptocurrencies are good for long-term investment? Why is it okay to invest in the long-term and what are the strategies and criteria to choose cryptos that we can invest in?

It is hardly possible to agree with the statement that long-term investment in cryptocurrency is very profitable. This may only be true for Bitcoin and a few top altcoins, but not for the rest of the altcoins. Probably more than 98 percent of the altcoins that I have had since 2017 now are dead and this trend, with minor deviations, continues. In addition, the frequent replacement of tokens, the transition from one platform to another, is very annoying. This means that if certain actions are not taken in time, then the cryptocurrency in our wallet will be absolutely useless.

I am also the type of guy that is investing into projects and then holding it for at least one year before i think about selling them again. The main reason for that is the fact, that i would have to pay taxes on my profits if i would have sold the tokens or coins before i had them in my wallet for at least 1 year. After i have them 1 year the profits are completely free of taxes.
Still i would have made a good amount of profit, if i would have sold a few tokens even though i did not have them for a full year yet. Even with the taxes, i would have way more money now if i had sold back in may of 2021, but of course it is always obvious now in hindsight but it was not clear that we  would go down so much back then.

That's absolutely true, as like i hold a few altcoins for the long term approximately 3-4months but when i have seen the values dropped almost 5x-7x from buy price then i was panic and sold everything with very low price, so it’s really difficult to hold for the long term investment sometimes.
