Title: turned gambler after investing in BTC or investor turned gambler?
Post by: bittraffic on December 13, 2022, 02:26:34 AM
This is just a question got from someone I hangout with yesterday when I introduced her to investing in BTC. She is 50+ but managed a busy small hotel and has a son who had been playing games on the computer all the time. After some discussion, I advised her to just remind the son not to gamble the BTC.

So she asked how I end up gambling online. I'm not totally a gambler at all, I started investing and somehow stray as I'm trying to win some.
She began to worry since her son is on the computer all the time and might gamble upon learning the BTC can be gambled.

Which one has a high possibility of happening, a gamer eventually becomes a gambler or an investor turns into a gambler?
But first, answer the poll which are you. Are you a gambler that become an investor or an investor that turned into a gambler?

The biggest possibility is that he can enter the gambling games to become a gambler, especially when he does not have good self-control.
But he will only become a gambler if he sees advertisements about gambling, especially when he visits his social media pages. At this time, there may have been many hidden advertisements containing gambling.
I am an investor who is also a gambler but a responsible gambler by always monitoring the amount of money I gamble with.
He should really watch over his son, who often plays games on the computer and taking him to learn to manage his hotel would be better for him so his focus would be distracted from playing games all the time.

I don't see the relation, especially with bitcoin. I think the crypto market may attract those who are already gamblers, but putting money into shitcoins hoping to hit the next 100 or 1,000x is quite similar to gambling.

Today bitcoin is more stable, despite its volatility and I think people who buy bitcoin don't have that gambler mentality in general.

In any case, I think the path is from gambler to gambling with cryptocurrencies or bitcoin, not the other way around.

First of all, check the poll you entered, it's almost the same option just a twisted sentence.
turned gambler after investing - still, an investor first (do you mean before investing?)
investor then turned a gambler - yes just the same as above.

A gamer has the highest possibility in my opinion.
Gamers usually buy premium things in the game with the expectation to get better rewards in the future. Yes, it sounds like gambling.
Unlike a purely innocent person who knows little about Bitcoin, then just invested in it, there is a possibility he/she won't even bump into gambling.
Trading, maybe, has the highest chance.

Dunno. Probably nobody can tell with confidence.

We already know many bitcoin investors or traders also put their money on crypto casinos.

Don't gamers make bets too when they're playing with peers? I'm guessing they also bet on tournaments like DOTA2 or other competitions.

Her son is not a gambler, why should she tell her son what could make him begin to gamble? She should not mention anything like that to her son and she should backup the seed phrase and have it safe in different places and delete the wallet from the computer.

She began to worry since her son is on the computer all the time and might gamble upon learning the BTC can be gambled.
Another option is for her to use a strong password to encrypt the wallet, but best not to leave the coins on the device, like I said earlier.

Anyone can start to gamble any day as they are exposed to gambling and see gambling as a way of turning $1 to $1.5 (as a way of making money) but which has more down sides.

I'd say a gamer is higher chance to become a gambler since gambling is also form of game. While investors that mostly an adult people or have a good financial management already know what is gambling, they're already mature to make a choose. As long as they're gamble with amount that they can afford to lose, it's fine.

Lol, that's what I want to say when I read the topic title, but when I read the whole post the @OP trying to say it's investor who turn become a gambler and a gamer who turn become a gambler.

Uhh OP I think the options are the same?

>Turned gambler after investing ("after")
>Investor then turned a gambler

Anyhow to answer, I was originally a gambler already before even sinking into investing in crypto, tried doing some gambles as well when I was investing but went pretty badly so I just went for DCA's a few months back.

She began to worry since her son is on the computer all the time and might gamble upon learning the BTC can be gambled.
I wouldn't think of connecting gambling to BTC really. If the said son was investing in BTC then that in itself should be a time and money sinker imo, and would probably give him enough stress that I wouldn't really consider doing anything else. I'm just baffled how a simple convo of a son using the computer all day turned into BTC and then gambling. Your average gamer joe just probably plays Dota 2/Cs:go or some variant of those really.

But even someone that is not a gamer before can see ads of gambling site and just try some simple games which could be where he would begin to play game with real money. A gamer may have a high chance to become a gambler, but anyone can become a gambler.

I knew about cryptocurrencies in 2019 but I have been gambling since 2014. Some people do not know about cryptocurrencies but they are gamblers. There are also still fiat gambling sites.

I was and remain a gambler. Even when I invest (in some alts I like) I consider that as some form of gambling... gambling is a philosophy!

Whether someone will like trading or gambling depends on many factors. People generally like to try and experiment with new things, it's important what we encounter first, whether there is someone close to us who will introduce us to and guide us through the world of investing or gambling. There are various and incredible examples, I guess each of us learns about things along the way... so I don't think there are any rules about this matter.

Even if the investor totally abandoned investing in assets only to switch in gambling. I think playing a gambling can still be called as investing. They invest money in the game or they deposit so that they have something to bet. Another thing that they invest is time and effort. In some gambling sites like bitdice, bustabit, and bitvest you can also invest on them (literally).

In investing, there is also a gambling with it or so-called risks. Old school gamers are free from the influence of gambling but the one that is exposed in gambling are the kids that play modern games in the app store and android store because most of the games there are pay to win.

Whatever the case should be, the idea is just to stay in profit.
Investing is not as easy task and same thing applies to gambling but whatever the case should be, both a gambler and an investor wantes to be happy and just make money.
I was an investor before switching to gambling but that doesn't I mean I stopped investing, I only see gambling as a way to making passive income and on the days my winnings are much, I use mist of it for some more investments while I still try to gamble responsibly.

Wait a minute, @OP. Does his son really gamble BTC or play computer games like other kids?
If his son doesn't know anything about BTC, maybe he's just playing computer games or gambling fiat instead.

His father worries too much about his son and that is normal and actually, his father can approach his son and ask what exactly his son is doing so he doesn't have to worry about it.

A person can be an investor and a gambler depending on how he treats BTC and vice versa. I am both an investor and a gambler and I am okay with that.

That same mentality will ruin their focus to get the best out of their investment because they won't find any humility in investing especially with the current situation of the market and they will gonna easily become a victim of a pump-and-dump coin. The hype will gonna ruin their plan and they cannot resist it but if they only have a strong will to keep holding their BTC without carrying about the hype of shitcoins, they could persevere until they find themselves in the same situations as most successful investors do when they were patience holding their bitcoins until the market exploded with bull runs.

My answer is, it depends on whether you are originally a gambler before investing or not. There might come a time after investing you might find yourself gambling after getting into cryptocurrency since blockchain is also used by gambling platforms and is advertised anywhere. I can't see any relationship between investing and gambling, it all depends on how you view cryptocurrency, if you treat it as an investment then you will never invest just to gamble away your money.

People learn about crypto in various ways, gambling can also be one of the reasons for it.

No, neither of them....! Both are the same, messy.

•turned gambler after investing

I remember what was said by:@Rida Morwa
• If Investing Feels Like Gambling, You're Doing It Wrong (https://seekingalpha.com/article/4535913-if-investing-feels-like-gambling-youre-doing-it-wrong)

This proverb is always embedded in memory.
Quote
Risk of ruin is a concept in gambling, insurance, and finance relating to the likelihood of losing all one's investment capital or extinguishing one's bankroll below the minimum for further play.

I have to have two options in life.
1. Investment/separate.
2. Gamble/separate.

What I mean is.
I invest with my hard-earned money, professionally I don't mix gambling money with investment money, I prefer to provide investment returns to my family, without having to involve gambling money.

My goal is to gamble only as entertainment and experience, where I have to involve money to bet, really hot money, so winning for me is not a pride as well as losing is not a cry for me, solely for pleasure for me.

Of course, these two reasons are not an option for me, except: the poll implies 'investment' or 'gambling' of course I choose both, why both, of course there are reasons for that, as I said above.

Well, I am a gambler since my younger years and BTC was not yet discovered by Satoshi at that time, so I am a gambler before I started investing.
Regarding the other question, I think a gamer has a higher chance to be a gambler first than a BTC investor. This is a fact, there are bets happening inside the game, you name it, CS, Dota, etc.. They put money at stake to make the game more entertaining and that's considered gambling.
Unlike an investor which have different paths to take, he can be a long-term, short-term investor, a trader, or would not just give a damn about gambling at all.

With today's competition in esports, it's very highly likely that gamers can be turned into easy gamblers. There's no question about that and that's a high probability so the woman should really be worried about it. How old is the son then? If he's in the teenage years, well, that's one of the stages that curiosity will tick in for these youngsters. Just tell the woman that doesn't give her BTC to her son and just keep it to herself so that she's the one managing the ins and outs of the transactions.

I go for the two options!
A gamer can become a responsible gambler for the sake of passion, time spent, and the joy of winning, but this is dependent on how the boy handles it from the start. The same goes for bitcoin investors, the bitcoin orientation you receive from the start determines whether you will remain true investors or have gambling in your gene. I'm not sure why people are afraid of gamers these days turning into addicted gamblers, I remember hanging out as a kid at a gaming house with my friends for fun, betting against each other, and my parents didn't see the big picture of us becoming gamblers at the end of the day, but today parents are afraid that their children will become gamblers.

I am neither of the two mentioned. I'd like to label myself as a risk-taker rather than a gambler.

The moment I learned about crypto, I decided to take a risk in it because who knows, it might be worth the shot. And it is. You just have to have a good self-control. Discipline is a must in investing and trading. Most especially in gambling if you're going to make it as one of your source of income. This is why it is important to know the pros and cons of risk taking and gambling in general. You must know the basics such as how to analyze and assess, how to make a strategy, and the likes to have higher chances of winning.

However, it is not really advisable to make gambling as your main source of income. It should just be your way or outlet to release stress. And if ever you really will insist to make a profit out of it, you should be ready for the consequences.

It's easier for a gamer to become a gambler because all the elements of gambling and risk that all gamers are experiencing are the same when you are gambling, they buy items and take a risk in trying to beat their opponents in the case of casino gamblers are fighting the house edge, when a gamer decides to make a transition, it will be easier because they almost have the same interface.

Quote

I am an investor before I became a gambler, but there are a lot of risks involved in gambling because you can wipe all your money in one session compared to investing you can trade or dump your investment and you still have something left.

Sometimes the ads of this forum which is mostly gambling waken up our interest to try what those offers can give to us and its just we enjoy playing that's why some of people turn to become gambler. Maybe those whales we see betting some huge money are the real gambler since maybe they find some easiest solution where they can bet some huge amount without getting flag by their banks.

I will not deny that I started as an investor and later became a gambler here in crypto gambling. But I'm not saying that it was a bad influence, that's not what I mean. I just tried it from the beginning until I got addicted to it over time.

Now, let's go back to your question, if the child is a gamer, I don't think there is a problem with that unless the child has an idea about Bitcoin and knows where his parent's bitcoin is, from the account and password, because in this matter it is possible to happen and it is also possible not if it is not a gambler.

It depends on what type of a person you are. If you are into risks, no matter what activity you were from, there is a chance that you become a gambler or an investor or both (relative to one another since we are talking about risk). On the other hand there are gamers who are not into gambling but ofcourse it is wrong to generalize. There are gamers who are putting bets on the game but I doubt it is only the money they are into but also with the game they are playing. Unlike with gambling wherein people are just into profit. We are making choices freely and if you are definitely responsible to whatever path you would be trying to engage yourself with.

I did not find a correlation between investors or gamers versus gamblers, I think you are talking about a different realm. Basically gamblers can come from any background as a result of stumbling on interesting advertisements, hearing people's experiences or they just want to try something new at first, regardless of what currency they started their first gambling with.

I don't think there's many people who start to become investor when they're mainly a gambler, because they choose gambler since they can't wait the return for long time, so they skip the process and gamble it in order to make money. Of course few people can become investor when he was a gambler, but it's after gambler already ruined his life and he want to start his life from zero. Usually it's already too late, many people are become criminal or never learn from their mistakes.

The first scenario is more likely to happen.

Remember that gambling websites have been advertised continuously in the internet. Given that the son also plays video games, it is inevitable that he will encounter some crates while he is playing. While these "crates" are not gambling in a cryptocurrency sense, it is pretty much an introduction to gambling especially if he spends money on it.

I am actually a gambler that became an investor. But before I became a gambler, I was an avid gamer and my first experience with crates is when Dota 2 introduced their crate-key system which turned me into a gambler.

First I was a gamer,I played from SNES-Super Nintendo Entertainment System up to Playstation 2,3 and lately 4,which I still do.In the moment that I was introduced to Bitcoin several years ago I immediately was looking for ways to spend it and the gambling industry was all over the place with many ads even in paid to click sites or micro earning sites so I ended up trying and I am still a gambler today.

This to say that an investor turning into a gambler has much less chances than a gamer has to become a gambler because after all gambling is just some other form of game where you can even win money.

The reason why you turned out to an occasional gambler is just because you're promoting a casino for that you need to have basic knowledge about casino and gambling works but this has no relationship with investment and BTC. Millennials are more into the online games and also there is potential to earn a lot by gaming so all we need is to have skills and management of our knowledge.

more precisely if I win big from gambling then I will become an investor for several crypto companies, because if on the other hand I have a lot of money as an investor then playing gambling it will spend my money every time, so playing gambling until you win big then becoming an investor will look wiser, BTW I think that child is just a gamer and not a gambler because true gamblers usually still have time to socialize with outsiders while people who are busy being gamers are more likely to be engrossed in their room  ;)

there is no trigger someone to become a gambler. all of them are in themselves.
a gamer or investor in my opinion is not one of the triggers for someone to become a gambler. a gamer and an investor already have their own goals. I mean a gamer's goal is to play games and an investor's goal is to invest to earn money in the future.
If we say that a gamer has a greater chance of becoming a gambler, I don't agree because there are so many gamers out there who don't become gamblers, because they only think about entertainment. although gambling is also one of entertainment but gambling is like luxury entertainment.
but if we say investors have a greater chance of becoming gamblers, that I also disagree. because investors think more about making money in the future, not thinking about making money for now. because gambling can be used to make money at any time even though the chances of winning are small.

from all my words above the conclusion is that the biggest opportunity to become a gambler is not a gamer or an investor but from himself.

for myself at first my father was a gambler and every time when I was little I found out my father gambled and when I grew up I tried to try gambling and to this day I still do it. but I was originally not a gamer or investor just an ordinary person

more precisely if I win big from gambling then I will become an investor for several crypto companies, because if on the other hand I have a lot of money as an investor then playing gambling it will spend my money every time, so playing gambling until you win big then becoming an investor will look wiser, BTW I think that child is just a gamer and not a gambler because true gamblers usually still have time to socialize with outsiders while people who are busy being gamers are more likely to be engrossed in their room  ;)

i can see that as well. most of the gamers who  stays in front of the computer 247 often just wanna sit wearing reading glass with a grade of 3.5+.
a gamer will have a set of friends a like who contributes more of their gaming experience and when exposed to BTC or crypto, they may end up playing the P2E games and not Bitcoin Casinos.

i consider myself an investor but sometimes also gamble. learned to gamble along the way.

I am none to be honest. I just simply invest and hold. Furthermore, I am a holder. This has a lot to do with my religion. I am a Muslim and gambling is prohibited in Islam.
Gambling is like an addiction, Once you get into it, you can't come out. I don't know about you guys, but I find gambling no fun at all. But as this is gambling section, don't mind my word and carry on what you are doing so far.

The gambler can turn into the investor and vice versa, it depends on the impression and passion of the person. Personally, I learned to gamble in my childhood with my classmates, but I am not addicted. I have my own style. I can play when I want to, and I do not take gambling as a source of income, but only for entertainment. At the moment I run a shop and allocate a monthly budget that I invest in encryption. And sometimes, when I feel bored, I join online gambling, enjoy some games, and chat with other gamblers in order to change the routine.

I do gamble but on a very controlled manner which does simply implies that i could really be an investor and at the same time you would really be an investor. As long you do have the money
then you could do everything you do want but since his son might be still not aware on how to save up BTC and beleiving that he could only make use of it on the time he do gamble
then he would soon realize that it wasnt really worth on wasting up those coins but instead it would be worth if those would be accumulated and save up.
Being a gambling and investor then it would be varying in towards your actions.

To answer your question I am not a gambler turned investor or and investors turned gambler. Rather I will describe myself as a gambler exploring the gambling -sphere. I am not interested in running a casino needle do I invest a lot of money into gambling. Do I take time out every month to budget very little amount of money for gambling I try out different games different casino website just two have a good time.

I've followed the poll in this thread, I also don't think the child will play BTC gambling but it's commendable for you reminding that and introducing bitcoin to that person, but it would be nice to invite the hotel owner to also adopt for example accepting bitcoin payments to stay at the hotel his small as an investment, if he collects bitcoin from lodging and the price of bitcoin increases drastically it will certainly make him rich, if I were in his position of course I would do it after being rich selling bitcoin so there is no need to be a gambler

Same way or same words which i didnt really end up on being a gambler despite of being an investor. Both are different things which if you are still on your right mind then you could really differentiate on whats investment and whats leisure on where you could really be able to deal up with according on what you are tending to engage on.If you do play gambling then prepare for the amount of money
which you would really make use on having that entertainment.if you do do look for something income or revenue for long term then this is where investment would be considered.
If you do apply yourself on being a gambler with your investment then its not considered as investment anymore but pure gambling.

Are you a gambler that become an investor or an investor that turned into a gambler?
I've been a gambler before I become an investor.

I think the latter part happens only to a few. When they know how hard to establish an investment and a business, they'll take time to think of it if it's worth to spend every buck they have for gambling.

That's why if an investor is aware of the possible drawback of a hobby through gambling and doesn't have a control of it, he/she is aware what might happen to them if they do so.

^ I did not vote for any option above because I am not a gambler, when you talk about a gambler it is frequently gamble which I am not. I am also not an investor because I did not hold a large sum of BTC in my portfolio. The reason that it is happening is that we know how to use BTC and since we wanted to double our BTC we want them to gamble, so if you are having fun only and often gamble, I may not call you a gambler. this could be a trigger to the holder to gamble their money besides, BTC is very easy to use in gambling and probably that is the reason why investors turn to gambling.

First of all, we don't have any other answer options to the polls that are included in your question. so, from these two poll options. neither represents nor is it close to the most ideal of my options, personally.
from my point of view, a person can be a gambling addict even if it is not related to bitcoin or crypto investments and all kinds of things. there are many of us who can start gambling from land-based casinos, or fiat-based online casinos before playing at crypto casinos.

In connection with this industry, bitcoin is also widely adopted by casino platforms. certainly has the potential to change the pattern of habits for actors engaged in this industry. however, we cannot give a definite conclusion. because after all, we don't have the right answers to your questions.

It depends on the perspective of the person.  Even a person that is not into games and Bitcoin turned into a gambler.  So I can say that it doesn't really matter what the person is currently doing.  Gambling is enticing and anyone can be hooked by it.

I have been gambling even before I started investing.  I got access to gambling activities when I was young, people are just playing cards everywhere in my place.  But regardless, gambling doesn't bring me to being an investor.  I think these two things have separate paths since one action does not promote another action.  Like investment doesn't promote playing in a casino and vice versa.  Whether we gamble or not is our own choice of path and is not influenced by any investment or gaming.

It all depends on one's goal and purpose in crypto. I was once just a gambler and I was influenced by my colleagues to gamble. I was using Bitcoin to bet but when the all-time high happened last 2017, I got curious and I invested in Bitcoin when the price dropped. I never thought that I would be interested in it aside from gambling. From then on, I have seen the real importance of Bitcoin and decided to save and invest in it. My purpose before was just to win Bitcoin by luck but I have switched to investment and just waiting for a good profit when the market recovers.

I've been accumulating to profit out of the bullish trend. Suddenly when the market declined the portfolio value of the holding declined. To keep the holding value stable I could've done to trade for USDT or some stable coins. Instead I started to gamble. This is where it all started and slowly I lost and to recover I started spending and now I was in a critical situation not able to invest/hold.

When we are someone who does have the knowledge about Bitcoin or crypto as a whole then we wont really be doing such foolish things for us to spend it out on something which isnt really that important.

For a young kid who do make out some gambling using up btc then it would be a common situation since he do still lack knowledge but eventually we cant really make out some conclusions yet
because we dont know if he's secretly accumulating too via playing gambling.Just like the rest of players who do make use of Bitcoin on their
gambling activity whether they are minding about investment or simply trying out to play for leisure purposes.

For the poll, i'm a bit torn between the two but I guess I started as an investor and then turned into a gambler as I remember stacking my signature campaign earnings back then before becoming a regular gambler.

On the other question, I would say the gamer is more likely to be a gambler because most games would try to sell their cosmetics in a way that's very similar to gambling.

Title: Re: turned gambler after investing in BTC or investor turned gambler?

As to the poll's question, I am neither. I mean, I didn't turn into something else. I gamble but I am also an investor at the same time. Of course, my being a gambler started earlier than my being an investor, but I didn't turn from a gambler into an investor. I am both today.

As to which is highly possible, a gamer becoming a gambler or an investor becoming a gambler, I think it's the former. Although an investor is generally a gambler in that his/her positions are risky and yet he/she takes it nevertheless, there are certain rules, strategies, indicators, and others that are to be considered. In a gamer, it is easy to just risk and expect a certain reward if successful. That's nearer to gambling in its strict sense.

For sure, it is very unlikely that a player will become an investor.

First, because a player who earns a lot of money with the game (which is rare), is usually addicted to the game and will hardly have time to do something else, such as managing a hotel.
And if he is like most people who lose more than they win, he will certainly never become an investor.

Already an investor, he can easily become a player, as he would find in games a form of entertainment for his tumultuous life, even his financial condition as an investor can be of great help to encourage him to play more and more believing that there is no risk of losing everything you own.

But I'm sure of one thing...
An investor with solid assets and lots of money, together with a gambling addict, is a combination that is unlikely to last long.

Either he will be an investor or he will be a player, I think it's impossible to be both simultaneously for a long time.

This is difficult as there is not a direct relationship between gambling and investing, some think they are similar due to the fact that in both you are taking a risk to earn money, but while in gambling everything is up to chance, when it comes to investing you have a great deal of control about what you are doing, besides even if at first you were either a gambler or an investor this does not mean you will become an investor or a gambler respectively, so I do not think the question has much merit to begin with.

I consider myself an investor turned gambler, this is because I've never for once gotten involved in online gambling until I became fully involved in crypto currency, bitcoin being the first ever crypto I bought.

I've gambled a few times offline, that is on land casinos, but I was never seriously involved, I gambled like once in every six months wagering a very minimum amount of money, but since I become an investor in cryptocurrencies, and as well discovered online gambling, I've become a more active gambler than I ever used to be.
Thanks to Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general.

Sorry to hear that.

But you've done it correctly at the beginning but just did wrong when you're spending it. Nothing wrong to gamble with your profits but not to the extent that you have to gamble all of it.

Save for yourself and no one's stopping you from having fun but you need to remember and priority yourself first before doing anything else with your money like gambling.

Unless his investment is not based on research and follows the advice of others, it is gambling because he just chooses what to invest without looking it through research. But from @OP's story, his son is not related to his desire to invest and only plays computer games.

But it's possible that gradually, his child can join in gambling if he is curious to see if his friend can win and tell him privately. With so many gambling advertisements nowadays, I think it's only a matter of time before someone can get into gambling and find the fun.

This makes sense. You can be in it initially for gambling, and turns out you want to invest in it because you've seen its value. It's good to know that you managed to turn your gambling habit into something more beneficial to you and is profitable in the long run. Although gambling once in a while as a breather isn't a bad idea as well as long as it is done in moderation and responsibly. There are many people that belongs to the choices and there are also people who would like to be excluded and label themselves using other terms.

But the main point I see in this is that regardless of how you turned to which, you should know financial literacy. You must be equipped with knowledge about risk assessment and management and you must have a strong self-discipline in order to do good in your chosen path.

unless one knows how to value money? either both has nothing to do with it , Gamblers can turn into investors same as investors can be a gambler but the main thing is that people must learn first to understand what is Money and how hard to acquire this , with that knowledge the said person will either invest? or will gamble with moderation , not like the son of that businesswoman who knows nothing about those because maybe being fed by her mother.
try to teach them first to value money and lets talk again later.

I had been a gambler since before the introduction of online gambling thus Iam a gambler turned investor meanwhile after fully diverting from betting shops to online gambling I discovered some opportunities of investing in some cryptocurrencies after doing a research, however I had limited my gambling activities to avoid addiction to fully concentrate on trading and investment opportunities because of the high returns that is guaranteed unlike gambling though it also has some risk too however it has a less risk compared to gambling especially when addicted.

Not sure who will end up, but for me still 50/50. So it's up to the individual itself, maybe there are gamers who really enjoy the games that they play and will remain like that, without any money involved. But there could be gamers that might be influence by other streamers that he/she follow and turns into a gambler.

Same with investors although we all know that investing is gambling per se, there is already risk involved but somehow you can minimized it.

So yeah, it's up to the individual and the environment that they are brought it. If they are around people who doesn't gamble then maybe they won't developed into that kind of individual.

Her son might start gambling with fiat money. There's no guarantee that he will start gambling with BTC.
If you ask me, gaming is closer to gambling, because where are talking about playing games. Trading/investing is way more boring than playing games and I think that the experienced investors/traders know the difference between taking risks(based on an analysis of the markets) and gambling(which is based on luck 99% of the time). There's no problem for an investor/day trader to playing gambling games for fun.
I became both a gambler and an investor at the same time, but I really hate taking extreme risks and always gamble with small amounts.

Quite surprised that here are 80% of the people who first started out with investing and then went into gambling. For me it's the exact opposite. When I was in highschool the topic of investing was really boring to me, my parents tried to teach me the value of money and that it was a good idea to save money for later in life. But I didn't really want to listen to them. Instead of saving my weekly allowance I used it to buy new Playstation or PC games or used the money to buy candy. Only later in life when I first started living alone during university I realised how expensive life is and that is much better to start saving for bad times. So as a kid gaming was so much more fun than thinking about money, and also gambling was way more fun. My grandfather used to take me with him to play lottery and always gave me some scratch cards where I could keep the winnings. It was no surprise that as soon as I turned 18 I visited my first casino. I think most kids these days are gamers and will eventually try out gambling in their life and only start to look at their finances when they are older.

Yes, as long as the child is doing normal things to be a gamer, I don't think there's anything to worry about and especially just at home in front of the computer, not interacting outside and having anything to do with using drugs, it's more dangerous, but as parents, you need to remind you not to overdo it, because anything excessive won't be good. in the end, it seems impossible to turn a gamer into a gambling addict

It can't be determined easil. Both have the same chance to become gambler and why? Someone become gambler caused by his intention. It's all about how lucky you are in predicting something. When someone was playing gambling just for fun and it can also be considered as gambler since he has been gambling some money even though that's small amounts of money.

Well, I have been gambling all my life.... but it has become a little easier to gamble, since I invested in Bitcoin early ...and made some significant profits. I think you might gamble more, if you were successful with your trading and you then have some disposable profits to gamble with.

I was the typical "hamster in the wheel" ..when it came to finances... running & working and getting nowhere with my finances. Then I bought some bitcoins.... it's price went up almost 800% and I was able to pay off most of my debt. (This put me in a position to have some spare cash to gamble with)  ;)

Before I started investing in bitcoin, I was a gambler, it was kind of fun and I lost more than I won. When I started investing in bitcoin, then probably at the same time I started trading and I devote a lot of time to this, by the way, my success in trading is much better than in gambling. I can also sometimes bet for fun, but now I do it less often.

I guess turned gambler after investing into bitcoin for me a bit, but also not. I used to gamble before bitcoin too, but not a lot and all of that was sports, nothing else. That means I was already a bit of a gambler before bitcoin, but just a little and not this much, I am full on gambler right now and not just gambling a little bit.

It means after finding out about crypto, and buying some bitcoins, that turned into something that was a bit more realistic afterwards and that is why I am a gambler now, because gambling was so easy, much easier than fiat, and that meant I could gamble anyway I want and that's a good thing because I am having super fun.

Are you a gambler that become an investor or an investor that turned into a gambler?

Neither.Tthat dichotomy you raise is almost self-contradictory. If you had posed it as trader/gambler it would make more sense or in the case of investor, what it can lead to is betting on EV+ games like poker or sports betting.

In my case I got interested in Bitcoin after playing poker. I had previously been interested in the stock market as well and there is an extreme resemblance between a winning poker player's chart and a stock market chart. As for bitcoin, the resemblance in the graphs would be with respect to poker varieties with high variance, such as tournaments, sit&go turbo or spins.

(This put me in a position to have some spare cash to gamble with)  ;)
One fact is, if money is available after expenses is made, the idea to try out gambling with some stash of Bitcoin left of saved somewhere will be worth it, if the thoughts has been given to it before.
The correlation between bit coin and online gambling is quite slim, as one who has knowledge of one can easily adapt to the other.

Both are still possible, a gamer eventually becomes a gambler and an investor turns into a gambler.
Addiction can make a person's character change, like greedy investors, due to their addiction to profit they will never be satisfied with small results, finally putting everything just to get bigger profits.
When a gamer feels the pleasure of the results of the game being played, he will be obsessed with multiplying the money by playing gambling. Likewise with Investors, the results obtained will be used for gambling because they want to get more profit.

I'm more of an investor that turned into a gambler.

In short, I got into altcoins first then bitcoin. I was looking to earn some money at first because I desperately needed some cash in 2016 and 2017 and when I went through my first bull market and satisfied my basic needs I felt safe enough to try my luck and start gambling.

I wouldn't gamble my last money, I wouldn't borrow money to gamble and I wouldn't take a risk if I had very little but when I took out 20 times more than I've invested I felt like I could take a risk and have some fun. 1% loss is nothing when you're 1000% in profit.

If an investor is not a gambler,I don't think he will ever gamble with his investment no matter the advertisement of casinos online, since he will only concentrate on investing because gambling is not his thing and he doesn't see it as fun.

If the investor has been gambling before he invested into bitcoin, the he will continue doing with his gambling activities online. The disadvantage of gambling is when you lack self-control over it,then this becomes a problem, the addicted person that has invested into bitcoin might gamble all his investment.

I am an investor that gambles but not with my investment but with the extra money that I have budgeted for gambling, once I exceed that amount then gambling is over for the month.

Of course when we do not have proper knowledge we end up gambling in Bitcoin and crypto. Cause there are many Advertisements right now. There was a time of 2017 when I ended up losing almost 1500 to 2000 dollars in Bitcoin betting and that was a disaster for me too. And I cannot believe there are such cruel people that are scheming these newbies to scam people. And also traders can turn into Gamblers when they become greedy and that's not good for them and they end up loosing such big money.

I'm actually both and I think you should add another poll about being both, I am currently an investor of Bitcoin but at the same time it is my hobby to play gambling site too. It is not surprsing that investors are turning into gambler as the price of the Bitcoin are just swinging to support and resistance which we are now at a boring phase of Bitcoin and some people wanted to see actions on their bankrolls.

I'm an investor and a gambler, and I don't even know if one activity turned me into one or the other as I am still actively doing both whenever I have the time. I regularly play dice weekly, and bet on sports that I do know and that I do like whenever there is a match/game that I wanted some stakes on, You don't necessarily need to be converted into just one of them; if you are an investor in crypto you already know that that in itself is a gamble. Whereas in gambling it will come to a point when you're trying to convince yourself that whatever your spending in a casino is an investment from your pocket—and that is wrong considering that you are almost always guaranteed to suffer a loss in gambling.

As far as the question of investing turning people into gamblers goes, I think it seems very possible. But not just because of Bitcoin but rather the action of investing into something. That action alone is very similar to gambling because it has unknowable risks of losing money but also a probability of making money. Especially if said person starts trying out Daytrading and then trading derivatives... But the same can be said for investing in regular stocks. So bottom line the answer would be yes and no, you could become a gambler if you enjoyed the risky feeling of investing. But no, its not the fault of Bitcoin.

The other way around seems likely too, but on a lesser degree. I doubt investing is as fun as gambling is to a gambler. In fact, investing might seem long and boring to someone who is used to winning/losing instantly.

Don't worry OP, there's so many things you can do on your computer that it's improbable her son ends up gambling. More likely he's playing games all day or chatting with people. I used to game a lot in my 20s and never even thought of gambling at that time, even though me and my friends could spend 8 hours straight playing CS and dota. Gambling isn't the worst thing he could be doing online, so if she wants to control him, she's going to fail one way or another.

To answer the question, I started gambling once I was getting free money from signature campaigns. I haven't thought of it earlier but it's easy to spend money when you have plenty.

It's very rare that I encounter people whose gateway to crypto came in the form of cryptocurrency gambling sites. Given how early the industry was before gambling was even introduced into it in the first place. However, I do see the logic behind it. There are people who would want to make money in one way or the other in the crypto industry, the best way to make it is through investing in bitcoin or other altcoins. Moreover, cryptocurrency gambling sites offer a vast array of altcoins and shitcoins that it is no surprise people could easily be curious on how things would be if they try to day trade it. There are others who invest their earnings from gambling, there's a lot of opportunities really.

Good argument, it's not because bitcoin but because of your chosen practices, if you do day trade which similar with gambling you are expecting of a quick outcome, same as gambling win or lose you needed to move forward and re-try if luck is not at your side after you position your daily trade.

Also on the point that trading is boring in terms of doing research and really going deep with your analysis, but if you are just placing your position in hope that the market will fluctuate to your favor, it's same logic with gambling that you are waiting for luck to back up your bets.

There's a lot of way and its true that people would really be always be having that curiosity in mind which they would be finding other way on how they would be investing. It is really just that impossible
that people cant really be able to encounter when it comes to gambling. We know that people cant really just be that sticking into investing but also they would be also considering about leisure
which it is really just normal for us to engage for some time.Switching up from investor to gambler or gambler to investor? Its really that situational since not all
would really be ending up on having those realization or just simply they do know about that fine line when it comes into their differences.

Much likely I'm a gambler before which in turn to past that bad habit and now turning into an investor seeking for huge return with holding crypto. To be honest, I was only introduced into Bitcoin because of the need to gamble, way back Bitcoin wasn't hitting yet a thousand, I think 2016 and just only came in the forum late 2017.

For me, I think many are converted into investor into gamblers when time like this are hard but eyeing for an entertainment is easy especially thru gambling. Only a few could be the other way around I guess and base on the poll too.

I chose option number one and I'm surprised it's not the most popular option. It would seem that if you do something and it does not bring success, then you need to change (stop gambling), but no, instead, investors also turn into gamblers  ;D
Very strange, especially given the well-known cyclical nature of BTC. Probably, people simply do not have enough nerves to keep their position in a volatile market, believing in their choice for years.

From what I can see, it will be very hard for a gambler to turn investor because most of the funds could be used to gamble more which is why a gambler will always continue gamblers for ever. They will not be able to quit because of the zeal I'm them to gambler more so that they can win more profits.

It is very easy for an investor to go into gambling due to the quest to make more profits from the gambling market/world but it is very hard to see a gambler turning investor which could be due to find management and other factors. Even gambling addiction can cause it for a gambler not to become an investor.

But there are gamblers which are already investors but its true that it is most likely they would be using up those funds in the end of the day but there are ones which are really that good on controlling themselves.
If its really an investment then they wont really be that spending on whats been allocated for investment. It would really vary because not all person would really be the same when it comes to their
preference and dealing up with things. Some are really just playing because they do really love to seek for leisure for a stressful day or something that want to ease up those boredom.
We wont really know on whats up on someone on why they are doing such things.

There are millions of gamers in the gaming industry like gambling is also a multi-billion industry and if you look at the feature and what gamers are doing they are also doing what gamblers are doing they are buying pieces of stuff, leveling up challenging the house or their co gamer, so it's easy for gamers to shift to gambling and they want more challenge to make money they know what to look for and that's gambling

I am an investor first before I become a gambler there are a lot of advertisements here about gambling and since they adopt Cryptocurrency might as well play to have a chance of increasing my coins, of course, compared to gambling there's a lot of risks involved in gambling and if you're careless you can become a chronic gambler.

All of options are vague. I meant anyone would always be doing multiple tasks in their life and so, picking one from both was not true. These days investors were also doing gambling otherwise gamblers were also having some amounts of money invested in the crypto and so, all of things were true.
It doesn't make sense if you generalize someone could not do multi tasks activities by making two different choices. Those options were true but i guess any gamblers or investors were doing both of things at the same times.
I think that those options were not matched with the fact.

The higher possibility is investors mostly turns out to be addicted gamblers for reason. The gambling addiction kicks in after trying many lucrative promos on various casinos due to the large advertisement. Only few lucky percentage of gamblers goes to investing permanently, IMHO. This is what I have seen in last 10 years.
Investing and gambling are not the same thing, it is just like comparing people that have money but gambling with it too. Someone can be investing on a project or a coin that can latter become profitable, that is investment. But anyone can become a gambler and if not properly avoiding using high amount of money it can be on a loss side for him. I think we should talk about gambling differently and investing differently too because they have no connection. We should just remain saying that gamblers should use what they can afford to lose is the proper thing to say for not to use money that they intended to use for another thing on gambling.

I am an investor before turning to gambling when I was active in altcoin bounty hunting and gambling sites are advertising here in Bitcointalk I get attracted to those bonuses and a chance to win big prizes, which looks easy at first glance until you find out that it's not that easy.

I think I can vouch for the majority of people in this forum when I say that a majority of us gamblers now have started in the cryptocurrency industry as investors and traders. Doesn't matter what the reason is, we just found ourselves investing hard-earned money on cryptocurrencies and eventually learned how to trade and all that, when we have finally accumulated substantial experience in the space, we ventured to the green pastures of the cryptocurrency gambling field either to unwind and relax, or to increase facets of profit. I myself started investing since 2016, but I just started gambling in 2021 because a friend, whom started in crypto looking for coin airdrops and then using them to gamble for more money introduced me to cryptocurrency gambling.

I am not a heavy gambler but I did gamble already ever since I had my own money to bet. So I fall into the category of a gambler becoming an investor although I haven't stopped gambling as well.

I am actually surprised that most of the answers are opposite to mine. Did you guys just start gambling after learning and investing in bitcoin? Although it is already in my mind before that investing in bitcoin will open you to crypto gambling which is far more friendly, accessible, and private. I hope you guys are all responsible gamblers, especially these days when money is hard to find.

I really don't like to gamble online but I do have experience playing in casinos back then you need credit card and bank account to play something I don't want to use to gamble as its risky and my credit limit is just enough to my household purchase, but after the popularity of Cryptocurrency and many online casinos using Cryptocurrency I was tempted to play, its fun easy and cheap I remember my first deposit was $10 worth Doge so from investor I become a gambler, but there's a lot of risk playing in casino than investing or trading I found that out after losing huge amount of money.

Exactly what happened to me and I have gambled before getting to know crypto even though it wasn't very often. And I thought because crypto can grow holdings and it can also increase value, so I gambled on crypto.
and actually gambling is just a bet, luck is actually luck only has a very small chance, and losses are bigger. And for a while I had to control myself to limit bets and bet small amounts and only play when I had the urge, and try to be a wise investor.

If it is a gamble because of investing our money into a new token, I prefer to avoid trying it because we will have a hard time finding new tokens that can provide big profits later.

And if you choose to be an investor, you better avoid trying to be a gambler because it will cost you money. And if you are a gambler, you better try to become an investor. The choice is yours ;D
