Title: Former President Carter Says He Uses Snail Mail to Evade the NSA
Post by: lubing7683 on March 28, 2014, 08:12:13 AM
Former President Jimmy Carter has admitted that he uses snail mail to evade monitoring by the National Security Agency and that he feels such surveillance methods have been abused.

“When I want to communicate with a foreign leader privately, I type or write a letter myself, put it in the post office, and mail it,” Carter said with a laugh, as he was questioned on the matter on NBC’s Meet the Press program.

“I have felt that my own communications are probably monitored,” he said on the Sunday show.

Documents leaked by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden have sparked outrage in the United States and abroad about the vast capabilities of America’s intelligence programs.

Officials have defended the methods as necessary to thwart terror attacks, but President Barack Obama has ordered reforms in the wake of the disclosures.

Asked whether the programs were necessary, Carter said he thought they had “been extremely liberalized and, I think, abused by our own intelligence agencies.”

“I believe if I send an email, it will be monitored,” he said.

Wow good post.  I can't believe how creepy things are right now.  This is such an eye opener and I bat it will get overlooked with all the other crazy stuff going on these days.  Nice to see him speaking out though that is a little comforting for those paying attention.

That went out the window after 9/11. No one is exempt it seems. We also have no one in power that can or will stop this.

No, it's not a good post, where's his source? Otherwise he's just making it up.

Couldn't anybody who wanted to read his mail just cut open the envelope and reseal it when they're done? ::)

Wasn't it also revealed that the NSA also spied on snail mail?

The only way is using pigeon carriers

Yeah, but they have to intercept  it first, but it's also likely to be noticeable. They spy digitally because they can do so unnoticed.

You do that, I'll choose cryptography instead.

Why not use cryptography with carrier pigeons?  :D

I thought they wern't allowed to spy on their own citizens, never mind former Presidents?

I'd imagine they have much more of an incentive to spy on powerful citizens. Never know what kind valuable info they might find. I think a major goal of theirs is to collect dirt on powerful people, and I'm sure a former president has connections with a lot of powerful people.

Seems pretty unconstitutional, Don't they still have to protect former Presidents until they die?
