Title: Electrum giving inaccurate mempool data?
Post by: Bitcoin_Arena on December 19, 2022, 11:54:33 PM
While trying to send out some BTC, I noticed that information provided by Electrum app regarding the mempool does not seem to be accurate

Electrum was showing me that the mempool is about 10 MB worth of unconfirmed transactions.

mempool explorer (mempool.space) at the same time estimated the size to be about 1.7 MB

Is this something normal?

My electrum app is for android, and it's the latest version

It hasn't sync with the network. There are nothing to worry.

This helps a lot when deciding the fees.

You posted about its inaccuracy 2 years ago: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5297719.0

I has been and continues to be off a lot at times. Even running and connecting to my own node it still happens. Have you tried switching the node you are connecting to? I don't and just manually set fees and such, but should probably check one of these days.

Electrum was showing me that the mempool is about 10 MB worth of unconfirmed transactions.
It's hardcoded, each 'mempool slider' point has pre-defined mempool size which are 10, 5, 2, 1, 0.80, 0.60, 0.40, 0.25, 0.10mb from tip.
It's not based from the current size of the server's mempool.

Whatever your wallet software suggests you should use as fees, you should always check the state of the mempool manually before making a transaction, or just send with a low fee if you are not in a hurry. I have never relied on their "suggestions" when it's much easier to check mempool.space or Jochen Hoenicke's site.
