Title: when did you receive your first bitcoin?
Post by: I_Anime on December 30, 2022, 05:35:07 PM

Though I have been investing in crypto since 2020, I have only focused on altcoins. However, since the beginning of the bear market and since joining this forum, I have seen reasons why I should be investing in bitcoin rather than altcoins. So, I would like to know what prompted you to purchase your first bitcoin?

My PayPal got banned for some random reason that they don't want to disclose, so I was pretty much stuck with using bitcoin for cross-border payments for when I was buying/selling videogame currencies. I then realized how important having a decentralized currency is.

I received my first Bitcoin when ponzi doubler become popular in my country. I become motivated to accumulate satoshi on multiple faucets such as moonbitcoin and freebitcoin just to invest on ponzi doubler scam which I didn’t know that they are scam way back then.

It’s funny that I'm very motivated before to claim faucets every hour just to waste it on ponzi scheme revshare, doubler and mlm that only waste my time and Bitcoin that I earned patiently.

I think I have a similar experience as you, an altcoin is the reason why I joined this forum and my first purchase of bitcoin was to use it to purchase the altcoin which was in their ICO phase at the time, i purchased my first bitcoin and invested it on that altcoin project, but unfortunately, it later rug pulled on investors and stole all our bitcoins, that was also my first experience of being a victim to scam, but after this incident, I started buying/investing in bitcoin and some other notable altcoins as a newbie day trader, this was how I grew to where I am Today.
All this happened in 2016 by the way.

I joined this forum and I know the reason why to buy bitcoin, but I do not buy bitcoin, I earn little from the signature campaign on this forum which I believe will accumulate over time and become something big. $100 dollar worth of bitcoin today can become $1000 worth in the next bull run. Most altcoins are shit, you can invest in them and they become a failed coin.

What prompted me? Curiosity after all of my misconception about it during my teenager years.
Back in 2017 I got few Bitcoins, and it was the same year as I registered in here since I was trying to get along with people that are also holding Bitcoin like me. Started a little bit as a lurker guest on a side note.
But yeah, I learned some few more skills since I was trying to test the waters on doing more in crypto like trading. It all turned out to be just dogshit newbie experience for me since I ended up in a loss in the first try. I know I was still a newbie, but it was horrible experience.

Good thing I was not blinded to altcoins out there.

My PayPal got banned for some random reason that they don't want to disclose, so I was pretty much stuck with using bitcoin for cross-border payments for when I was buying/selling videogame currencies. I then realized how important having a decentralized currency is.
Don't you just hate it when they keep your funds held for 180 days and you're just so helpless about it since their customer service is horrendous. I even tried to resubmit my valid ID, and they did not respond back to me.

After joining the forum, I knew that I had to have Bitcoin in my possession. With all the guides that were given in the Beginners and Help section, I knew that I needed to have in a wallet that I hold the private key. It's incredible what digital goods or services you can get with Bitcoin here in the marketplace. I knew that I had to have BTC.

Yes. You just spoke the truth, and you never would have known this if you never came across this forum, or search this question at the right place with experience users, because this forum indeed has all the information you could ever need in your crypto/Bitcoin journey, which is why it's the right place for all Bitcoiners. Moreover, Bitcoin has always proven to be a best choice for long term investment, due to the fact that it's volatility is not of all risk compared to altcoins

It was in 2014, when I was desperately looking for online earnings and was highly disappointed by PTC because after investing some amount of money it didn't paid me, I was lucky back then when one of the PTC ads is about Bitcoin.  I got interested and read about it.  My first purchase is around $10 and received my first Bitcoin on that transaction.

When I was in University a few years ago I was in quite a financial situation and always collected some spare change from the Internet in some way that I used to use a lot so at one point I found a bitcoin faucet which at that time bitcoin was still quite cheap and I started collecting things. that. But indeed at that time the price was not as high as it is today and I sold it at very cheap prices several times and even exchanged it for game vouchers :D

First time I received Bitcoin in 2016 where playing Paid To Click or PTC and converted payment method from Payza and withdrawung to be Bitcoin. Ever active become seller Payza and convert it for Bitcoin because worth and has higher profitable than selling Payza directly.

This first time I know and received payment from Bitcoin, but I don't understand yet about Bitcoin could be alternative investment at the future, actually first time I know, Bitcoin price still under 3,000 and Inever has ideas keep it for long term holding.

Also in 2013 or 2014—I can't remember exactly when—but my story is quite similar to yours. I had signed up on plenty of PTC sites, from which I only managed to earn a few dollars at most. Then, I came across BTCClicks, a PTC website paying in bitcoin, along with an abundance of BTC faucets that were available back then. I didn't understand much, but the faucets intrigued me, and I ended up spending a decent amount of time on them. Despite earning only a few dollars' worth of bitcoin, the whole concept fascinated me, and I ended up signing up on the forum.

I have very similar story. PayPal wasn't working in my country back then in 2012, and I wanted to sell some in-game items for real world money, so I had to do some manipulations with electronic payment systems and that led me to finding Bitcoin. Unfortunately, I disregarded it and just claimed 0.005 BTC from a faucet and forgot about it. But still I think it's cool that way back when Bitcoin was only 3 years old it was already known as electronic currency that people could discover by just looking for electronic payment systems.

I can't really remember when I purchased bitcoin, but I am sure I used it to buy altcoins. Mostly, I only earn bitcoin from here and trading then mostly store it in my wallet or try to buy promising altcoins, but since the bear market, I've usually cashed it out as foods are very expensive. I joined bitcoin in 2016, which is the time that ICOs were very well known, so that was also my first purchase of bitcoin to invest in it.

I started back in 2020.
It was all because I needed a way to save money or invest money so it would not lose its value because the insane inflation my country has been going through, before Bitcoin I was considering to adopt a common digital wallet called "zelle" but during those days the people behind that service announced they would not allow people from my country to use their app any longer, basically giving a deadline for people to withdraw their money.

I decided to go for Bitcoin because I do not need to worry for cases like that, got my first satoshis weeks after.

What incentivized me was the fact there were many offers online to earn bitcoins. I didn't purchase my first satoshis, as I could earn them performing tasks online. Since I didn't have money to invest back then, that was my opportunity to start collecting and saving btc for the future. And thanks to God it has been working so far.

You should purchase bitcoin because it's the main and most reputable cryptocurrency. It's the crypto with best long term chances, while guaranteeing safety to your investment. When you invest in btc you don't have to worry if the coin will be still demanded after several years, because we have the assurance bitcoin is king and will remain on top of crypto market.

I found bitcoin sometime back in 2013 or 2014.  I first bought bitcoin some time in early 2015, I believe in January. I think that bitcoin was something like $200 when I first bought some.  I studied bitcoin for about a year plus before ever actually buying any.  This is something I really regret.  It's always wise to fully understand something before you invest in it, of course, but I waited way to long to pull the trigger and doing so when it comes to bitcoin.

If talking about the first bitcoin I got, it was probably from a faucet because I started with this market looking for something free with no investment. But like you, ironically, the first thing I invested in was a Ponzi project coin, not bitcoin. But after investing in those scam projects and altcoins, I almost lost everything, then I realized that only bitcoins last for a time and are the most worth investing coin. Currently, my portfolio still has altcoins but mostly bitcoin.

I think you are one of the lucky ones. You have a long time ago heard about Bitcoin and have been able to buy Bitcoin at a low price. So did you buy bitcoin and hold it for a few years? If you have hold then you have earned a lot of money today. If I had known about btc or understood the importance of Bitcoin at that time, I would have definitely bought BTC so that I could profit now.

If I remember correctly then one of my friends who introduced me to the forum was one who send me bitcoin in my wallet(he was the one who set it up) for one of the translation work I had done for him and said it's new method of payment but was not much aware about it and the amount was also small so sell the coins and get $80-$90 don't remember figure exactly but now I regret it that even early encounter with it have not invested in it or hold it for long. But this is how it is and now still holds some of it for long term in mind.

They held my funds for 180 days then after the 180 days they just straight up said they're taking my funds because of "damages" lmao. All I did was buy/sell videogame items; I didn't even receive a single cashback on all my transactions lol.

A few months before the pandemic hit I guess? I was lightly touching trading back then (and suffered as a dumb kid with how fees work). I did know and touched about Bitcoin before (from a friend I knew back in HS) but it was only then that I really started handling it. I was lucky enough to avoid that massive pit that happened when the pandemic started but didn't foresee it coming back after that, so I lost out on a pretty big opportunity in terms of investment. It wasn't really helpful that I was a student back then, most of the side gigs I did that gave out money went out to be saved up to build up my PC (I had a pretty basic laptop back then), so the amount I had was minimal, so I couldn't risk it investing again what after that big dump that happened.

It was also helpful that our mobile wallet I use (coins.ph) finally had crypto conversion/crypto transaction (which was like an exchange, but much easier to access for someone ignorant like me back then I guess) which also pushed me to trying it out.

January 2017, if I'm not mistaken. It was my first salary from a bounty that has signature campaign as well. I was so happy that time because all the sleepless nights finally paid off. Bitcoin's price way back then is so little compare to what we have now, that's why the amount in Bitcoin in every salary is big. I will never forget the feeling when I received my first Bitcoin, that's what keeps me going.

FAUCETS!!!!!!!!

Patiently waiting every minute, I'm opening more than 20 tabs in my google chrome browser 5 years ago and spending my time answering those captchas just to get a few satoshis. What did I do with the Satoshis that I earned? I put it into Eobot (a cloud mining website) and I purchased some mining power thru those Satoshis that I got. I'm just happy at that time knowing that I'm just starting to learn crypto and I'm earning some Satoshis for free. What I didn't know is that Eobot isn't profitable and all of my Satoshis are gone.

Right now, I'm not doing it anymore because I don't have the time to do it and I don't like it but I'm just happy that I earned Satoshis thru faucets.

I get it from Freebitco.in since it's the oldest and popular Bitcoin faucet, if you google how to get Bitcoin in free, you will see someone include faucet as one of the way and recommend this site. But nowadays faucet is really worthless and doesn't worth anymore, I didn't even collect the faucet until the minimum requirement. Since I know it's wasting my time, I try to learn Bitcoin and then search a forum that related about it.

I've earned it not bit by bit way back 2018, wherein I manage to accumulate 1 Bitcoin but is now gone or sold early this year.  Most of my earnings before were from campaigns or projects paying tokens being released on their public sale. I'd say I made quite of a huge amount before which made me achieve such thing. Then this year, I diversified my assets to other profitable investments sucb as p2e's and nft's. And now I'm quite planning to invest in huge tokens of this industry if incase a recovery would occur for next year which I hope would happen. And if not, that's why I think major coins are the best ones to invest because risk of losing investments would be lessen in comparison to other tokens which are more volatile and are not having that much of demand.

Now, I look back with nostalgia in respect to this thread question. I actually didn't buy the first Bitcoin (actually, sats) I got. It was something like a payment from user @lenny_ and that was barely four weeks I joined this forum. I didn't even know how to get out a wallet address and send 🤦. It was 0.001 BTC which was worth $1 at the time. I was genuinely overjoyed because of the first time experience. It was like winning a lottery for me. That same amount is worth over $16 today, despite the current falling market.

Just like the comment above me, I did not buy my first Bitcoin. It came as a payment. Although I have no idea what Bitcoin is all about but have been hearing the word for a very long time now until recently when I became a Bitcoin owner. It's actually something to be proud of despite the unfavorable situation of market now.

when bitcoin was first released I heard about it for the first time while browsing websites I shouldn't have been on. i really wanted to buy it but I wasn't old enough to buy things on my own and I didn't know how to buy it. years later in 2017 i bought my first bitcoin. my god the price difference was unbelievable. i think not being able to buy it when i first saw it is what pushed me to buy bitcoin

It's hard to recall the exact dates. I remembered when Paid to click sites & revenue share sites were popular I have been using fiat like Perfect money & Payza. Then few friends suggest to use Bitcoin and I bought it. So after that have started using Bitcoin and am still now with Bitcoin. Yea altcoin become a Risker to invest in right now. A few altcoins even never recover the price even Bitcoin price recover. So Bitcoin is the right choice to invest in. Because we have seen many times Bitcoin repeat history. So once a time everything will be recovered.

Personally to me this forum is an eye opener to those who don't know much about cryptocurrency including me as well, formally i mostly engaged with altcoins but after my first experience during 2017 bear market i got to buckle up my shoes and changes my investment strategies then i began to acquire more bitcoin rather than altcoin. I purchase through Binance and after sometimes i began to receive bitcoin through sig campaign till date. I will advise you to pay less attention to altcoin rather use this medium to utilized the chances of your investment to hold more bitcoin.

If we look at the crypto data released by coinmarketcap, maybe there are currently thousands of crypto there. But we know about it all after we are in this forum, or already know crypto to the exchange stage.

But before we get detailed information about crypto, of course what the public is talking about is Bitcoin. I myself also know the term altcoin in this forum, previously I only knew Bitcoin. Before I was in this forum, I already knew about Bitcoin, and only Bitcoin, not with other crypto.

So when I want to invest in crypto, of course the main choice is Bitcoin. In addition to high prices being of particular interest, Bitcoin also always makes new breakthroughs. As long as I study crypto, there is no bullrun without starting with Bitcoin.
