Title: Bitcoin Core closing without error on IBD Post by: Apdboss on January 11, 2023, 02:12:28 PM Hey all,
I’ll preface this post with I am very new to the bitcoin community and don’t have a ton of experience with Linux OS or Bitcoin core. I recently installed Ubuntu 22.04 LTS on an old laptop, and downloaded bitcoin core from the software center to setup my first node. However, during the IBD process the window began closing without an error. It downloaded the first 25% of the block without an issue, but now bitcoin core will only stay open for 45 minutes to an hour before automatically closing. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Title: Re: Bitcoin Core closing without error on IBD Post by: DaveF on January 11, 2023, 02:34:38 PM How much hard drive space do you have / how is it partitioned? Could you be running out? The blockchain is 450+ GB at the moment so you need at least 500GB of space to hold the data (and os and other apps) but even now that is going to run out VERY quickly.
What does the debug.log file say. If you want to post the last part of it here USE the code tags so it's not a scrolling mess. -Dave Title: Re: Bitcoin Core closing without error on IBD Post by: NotATether on January 11, 2023, 08:24:02 PM It could also be an out-of-memory issue. How much RAM does your system have, and how much is being used when Bitcoin Core is running?
Does it also happen when you run bitcoind (the command line node)? That may be related. The earliest blocks are relatively smaller compared to the rest so there aren't too much verification or file size to write. Partition 1: 537 MB - 530 MB free FAT (32-bit version) Mounted at boot/efi EFI System Partition 2: 1000GB - 956 GB free Ext4(version 1.0) Mounted at filesystem root Linux Filesytem Not very familiar with how to change the partition but I'm sure I can figure it out if you have any recommendations. As for space, I wiped the computer when I installed Ubuntu 22.04 so it is completely empty outside of whats been downloaded so far from the IBD. The bitcoin core version is 24.0.1. What is the best way to open the debug log file? Title: Re: Bitcoin Core closing without error on IBD Post by: nc50lc on January 13, 2023, 03:50:08 AM The bitcoin core version is 24.0.1. What is the best way to open the debug log file? Open the "debug.log" file as text, it's inside bitcoin core's data directory. If you haven't set a custom datadir, here's the default data directory: en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Data_directory#Default_Location (http://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Data_directory#Default_Location) |
