Title: How much time do you think you have spent gambling?
Post by: BenCodie on February 02, 2023, 02:55:22 PM
I find this to be a curious topic, after reading someone else's posts where they described gambling as if it were their permanent lifestyle/purpose/function.

If there were a "gameplay" timer where the total amount of time you've spent gambling (whether it be online or in person), what do you think the amount would be?
Or if you have lost too many hours to count, how much time do you think the clock would be if it started at the beginning of 2023?
...and do you regret either of those numbers?

This is hard to guess but I believe I have spent heavily on gambling more especially on pool which focuses on draws game or either by correct scores. As a matter of fact, my summaries and statically calculated the expenses it would amount to something very significantly huge. But still, I never quits gambling because I believe some days I would definitely get my eyes rolling for a big win.

Luckily for 2022 I think I can give you an exact measurement,it was not more than 4 hours every week as a maximum while a minimum of 1 hour every week.I am an ex addicted gambler and giving these numbers here makes me feel proud of myself so far at least as in gambling you never know what will happen. The reason I got here is that I preset a bankroll of no more than 100 dollars weekly and usually this amount has kept me as a healthy gambler throughout all of 2022.If I were to measure myself in wagered amount without taking in consideration the many times I have withdrawn my small winnings is about 8500 dollars as that is my 85% of VIP requirements at Stake where I play and to become VIP you need 100% or 10.000 dollars as first level.

I can't say it's a heavy number. Honestly, I don't even close the browser anymore unless I go to sleep and shut down my computer.
But upon waking up and being in front of my computer, Stake.com will be open until I decided to sleep again. Although I don't really do heavy playing on casino games anymore, it's mostly in sports betting and living in the chat box waiting for a good pick from members who are sharing them. Checking odds during live games to take advantage of the sudden swing.
So this depends, I may have my gambling site open but I don't really play 24/7, unlike others who are doing it to reach a wagering amount required for a certain bonus. It's mandatory for them as one day being out might cost their rank to go down. I've been there but I don't like the stressful amount of time spent doing the same over and over.

I avoid playing casino games such as dice or even slots as much as possible and focus mainly on sportsbetting so I would say not much time is wasted on gambling. There are still many sports and leagues to bet on but I only choose around 5 events or less in a week. Doing that strategy doesn't require many hours on team research or updates.

as I only place sports bets and a week at least I place more than 10 bets and each game sometimes takes more than 20 minutes to analyze so I would say that each week maybe I spend 4 hours to analyze the games, but that does not mean that I spend 4 hours in the casino, so for people who make sports bets like me, I don't spend a lot of time in the casino so I am satisfied that it is like that, I understand well about the risks of spending a lot of time in the casino

I don't regret these numbers, because staying a long time in the casino can contribute to the person entering the world of addiction, that's why casino games like slot machines that make people have to spend hours in casinos are the ones games that make people addicted easily

Counting the amount of money spent on gambling be be a strenuous tadk to do and using a gameplay timer to see and track down records could as well be a demoralizing task to some, because if we really are to considers those amounts, we may loose hope or give up to gambling.

Or if you have lost too many hours to count, how much time do you think the clock would be if it started at the beginning of 2023?

Many gamblers will not want to consider this as well because they gamble because of the passion they have for it and not because of the money or time involved, everyone that has tasted gambling before must have spent time doing so.

and do you regret either of those numbers?

No since gambling is not by force, it a choice and a decision.

I will lose track of those times because we forgot the hours when we are having time but I can do an estimation its 10 hours online and offline every week, ad I don't regret those numbers and numbers that I will accumulate as long as I'm enjoying those hours, some of these hours are spent with my friends playing cards every weekend, it's our way to spend time together.

I tend to not spend a lot of time on card games on gambling websites. But I play a lot on sports betting. Well if it counts as gambling to keep following matches, players etc and other things I was spending a lot of time on it. Sports betting itself doesn't take huge time. You just look for proper odds to guess a result or goal number or other things. But it takes too much effort to actually find matches and teams to play for or play against.
I like football (soccer) so I don't mind time I am spending on it.

That's the point. The strenuous tasks you've described is called accounting and the second one is called responsibility. If either of these would discourage you from gambling if you were to do them, then maybe you are gambling too much.

Or if you have lost too many hours to count, how much time do you think the clock would be if it started at the beginning of 2023?

I doubt that people more people are gambling because it is their passion over addiction. I'd even say that you are describing a very small percentage of people.

I disagree entirely.

The concept of gambling, the way it is advertised/promoted/endorsed/etc and the way that gamblers are attracted to it the result of it being alluring. Gambling addiction is also a problem around the globe. If it was 100% a choice/decision then it would not be illegal in some countries and there would not be hundreds of responsible gambling campaigns where it is allowed.

I won't say I'm a chronic gambler but last year saw me spending most of my free time betting; tryna get some extra cash. Its quite funny sometimes when I think about it because if I had converted that time into doing something more productive, probably I'd have built me a device that could detect when a score would be correct 😏😏.

The timing of gambling is in two categories. There are some that must be done before their scheduled time is expired, and there are some that could be done at any time. For the former, I make sure I bet before the time grace elapses, while for the latter, I only spare 2 hours daily for it. But this does not include the time that I am bored and do not have serious things to do. In such cases, I might gamble and game for hours, but I strictly maintain little money for the acts.

I have never really considered the timer thing though. I recon it will be very difficult to use a timer especially when you at an online casino. You something lose track of time.

What I do is that, the amount of money I use to fund my account is what determines how much time I spend gambling. The maximum time I have spent is 2.5 to 3 hours. This is because the amount I spend is budgeted and it doesn't go past 2hrs. But if a timer works for you them by all means, go for it.

I can't say how long I have spent my time in gambling but I can say that I didn't spend much time on gamble as I don't gamble for too long. Some people may say that I am a gambler and they know that I am a gambler for example almost two years or a year but the truth is that during that timeframe is that I didn't gamble most of the time more like 4-8 times a year and during those times I gamble is that it won't even reach $10 even using my country's fiat currency. I only gamble to have fun and leisure time for myself. I would say that I didn't spend much time and cannot give specific timeframe on how long.

Not a long time. When I gamble I try to place fewest bets as possible and quit right after, so I don't hit the feared long term where gamblers lose their money. It ends that I lost money anyway after a while, so there is nothing else to do besides staying away from gambling for a while, until I can recover losses, therefore I spend less time gambling yet on the total calculation of hours played.

I think I just gambled consistently in the past 3 or 4 years. It wasn't the main highlight of my life but it sure does help in speeding it up a bit especially during the weekends. I wasn't the heavy gambler type of person that a lot here might fit right into, but I sure do spend a considerable time in it. 1-2 hours every week for almost 4 years is a lot, and that time (and money) I have spent could have been put into learning a new skill or getting into another hobby that has a guaranteed return to me.

Do I regret it? Not really, but looking back it kinda irks me that I spent that much time gambling rather than doing some other stuff. I enjoyed while it lasted anyway, and I haven't broke the bank in gambling consistently so no worries at all.

If it's time then probably a few thousand hours (But less than 5k I think). That's just on casinos though, sports betting idrk, never really knew when I actually started tbf. I just moved to it after I slowly got bored of casino games (though I still do play them every now and then). If it was like a general time then probably 4-5 years? That's just the general, probably played a few hours each session and every few days each week. I compared it to how I usually play my steam games every now and then (which is what I do with gambling essentially), so I'm pretty familiar with how my games were scheduled.

If it was the amount though I'd probably never answer/think about it, been gambling for quite a lot after all.

When it comes to capital spent, maybe I don't spend much capital on gambling. Because I don't have much time to gamble because I'm busy working and prioritize getting enough rest after work.
and I mostly bet on weekends when I have two workdays and even then bet on sports that I think are worth betting on, and my betting activity changes drastically when I have a real job and only bet on weekends only. And I still bet on sports because I love sports especially football, apart from betting for fun I can also enjoy watching their games.

Over my entire gambling journey? I can safely assume I may have spent more than a week's worth of time playing. I don't play religilously and only when I really feel like it. But whenevee I play I find myself pulling all nighters sometimes especially for games that require strategic thinking. I spend that extra time thinking of techniques and tactics that could best land me a win on the next run. As per capital, I think I just spent as much as you guys have over a peeiod of let's say, 3 or 4 years? I haven't really looked too much into it because I'd be giving myself unnecessary guilt if ever lmao.

I actually didn't indulge myself in that kind of gambling. Most of the time I have been busy with other work. I spent a lot of time on trading platforms in particular. I am still spending time with the trading platform. Although I don't spend time in online casinos and offline casinos, I personally enjoy playing Ludo on mobile with family sometimes. Although I did not spend much time there, I spent some happy moments with them.

You would lose count of how long you have been gambling from one casino to another all because of the bonuses and giveaways.  It becomes a habit already to check the casino you are faithful to and spend some time first before signing in to the forum.

Its a waste of time for some people actually but for you who have big hopes of winning a jackpot, it's not.  ;D

I don't have any specific timetable for gambling. The time I spend depends on the amount of spare time I have. I can gamble anywhere and anytime because I don't see it as an occupation but a source of entertainment. I just spend some time analyzing matches, checking the history of teams and results from games, and placing my bets accordingly. I think spending more than two hours gambling might not be healthy, but it still depends on individual differences. I have seen gamblers that consistently spend the entire day in physical gambling houses, especially those that are unemployed. But it might be better to learn a skill or read a book than to waste time In gambling because of unemployment.

Wouldn't be more than a couple of hours probably. That's because I am a casual gambler. I make some bets occasionally but I never take gambling too seriously. It is not a source of income to me. I already have a job and other investments which make me money. I only gamble for fun and hopefully it will stay that way. If you let your greed to take over, you will lose everything you got. I am not letting that happen.

But does time spent at the casino really matters? Because each person has different needs or targets by which they gamble or go to a casino, that is, while some gamble for fun/entertainment others gamble for money which is quite common, and that need will always have influences on how long such individual spend at a physical/online casino.
But on the contrary, most weekends I usually spend it at a  local sport booking center located at my vicinity, where we get to watch, discus and bet on premier league or Championship matches, and I can equally spend 4 to 5hrs (saturdays/Sundays)

Totally cant really make out those precise numbers if we do speak about total number of hours specially if we do speak about on year 2022 but for this 2023 or simply having that 1 month time then it would be less
or more 10 hours in overall gameplay and i dont really feel any regret with those since i've been enjoying on what im doing and im really just spending the amount which i can afford to lose.
I have always allocated up some funds for the sole purpose of doing gambling and never ever tend to go past with those boarders or limits because it would
really fucked you up.

Most users have regular time.

1-2 hour, more than that there has some chance you're ended with lose. So for the people who are gambling with around 1-2 hour and on winning position should be trying to stop and play another next day.

To keep stay clean & not addicted.

In the past, I use to give alot of time to gambling but not more than 3 hours in a day but however there are bettors who stay on gambling houses for close to 15 - 18 hours a day. Those are the bettors who practice gambling as a source of permanent income.

No doubt that gambling has been taken that way, to be what permanent ways that people look up to for a living and to buttress more on that you would see the numbers of casinos on this platform or forum is evidently confirming that it is now lucrative for both owners of both physical / online casinos and the lucky bettors.  So if someone say they are feeding permanently on gambling, it shouldn't be in doubt as accessibility to jobs are no more viable. The unemployment rate is high across the nations and people need to survive.

To be honest, I think you are the exact opposite of me when i was still a chronic gambler, infact if am to get a time table for my gambling, i think i wont be able to comprehend the amount of money i have spent on gambling. I mean from real card game, playing dice with friends and so many other types of gambling, i mean it was like a hobby and more like an addiction but luckily for me, it didn't destroy me. Because gambling can make you really frustrated in life, if you don't learn to control it. I had to discipline my self alot to atleast minimize the gambling spending and it helped me alot.
Please my advice is to never take gambling so serious as if it was an occupation.

I don't think everyone has a gambling timer here. I am mainly a crash game player and it usually depends on my mood. I have spent months without gambling and I have also spent hours in crash games, especially when I am winning. So it all depends on those situations. I am not an addicted gambler so I usually keep my activities within 15- 20 minutes unless I am actually in profit. Honestly, I don't regret those times because as an adult, we also need relaxation. Gambling is one of my ways to relax and nothing beats it if I make money out of it. I usually start with a very small amount like 25 - 40 USD which is well within my financial capacity. So I don't regret there either!

I cannot accurately time my gambling session. This is because gambling does not take any of my working time. I do it only at my leisure or as often as I visit my social media handles. As often as I opened my computer and login into a gambling site.
It is not very time consuming and I don't have problems with that because it doesn't interfere in my daily activities.

I don't know exactly how much time I spend gambling. in particular, casino games. because of the type of casino game, it cannot be measured based on time. I mean, one can spend hours playing slots. it could also be the other way around, not infrequently only less than an hour of our money runs out because we lose a game session.

To be honest, because my activities are quite hectic, I can only play games, slots, dice, blackjack, or others, on certain days. for example, during holidays from work. and even then with conditions, with limited funds. However, for sports betting it may be different. I prefer to bet on football bets, depending on the team that will play and only in certain leagues. in essence, I am an active gambler, I usually bet on football according to a predetermined league schedule. however I have my own requirements, my first priority is work. once it's done, I can have fun with it.

Regarding winning or losing, we are fully aware that it is part of the risk.

Actually quite difficult to measure that. I don't think people put a clock there to keep an eye on something like that normally. Most people know approximately when they started gambling. Days or weeks and maybe even months go by without gambling. But you also need to have the financial means to gamble. If you gamble your salary, you will again have to wait until the end of the month to get paid again. Then you have people who really only gamble for fun, then you should think of an evening at the casino, for example. That might be once or twice a month.

I don't think their is any way the total time spent gambling can be calculated, I don't think their is any gambling site that's always showing time spent just the way you can see how many hours you have spent on the forum here, I haven't seen any gambling site that's having this futures and even if their is any, most people don't really gamble on only one gambling site, most people use multiple gambling site. I don't think it will be reasonable to seat and start calculating the hours you have spent gambling, am very sure it can never be possible self.

Doing such calculations is a way to drive yourself into depression. And I'm not just talking about gambling. If a person has problems with gambling/online games/hobbies, then this can be seen even without calculations. In my opinion, you should not regret anything if you are satisfied with your life. There are no standards for how many hours a day you should be "productive". Sometimes just lying on the couch brings more benefits than incredible work  ;D

I am an occasional gambler, this simply means that I don't gamble often, I only gamble whenever I feel like, infact, for the past 3 months, I've not gambled at all, so if I should say how much time I spend gambling, it would be difficult to come up with a time that is accurate of even close to accurate.
But if I must say something, I would say that I spend maybe like an hour in a month gambling, and of course I removed the past three months which I haven't gambled due to a loss I made which I'm still trying to recover from.
I hope to start gambling again soon though.

Or if you have lost too many hours to count, how much time do you think the clock would be if it started at the beginning of 2023?
...and do you regret either of those numbers?

I will lose track of those times because we forgot the hours when we are having time but I can do an estimation its 10 hours online and offline every week, ad I don't regret those numbers and numbers that I will accumulate as long as I'm enjoying those hours, some of these hours are spent with my friends playing cards every weekend, it's our way to spend time together.
Most probably, more than 10 hours for me every week spending in gambling since that is also one way to entertain myself especially if I came from a load of jobs that week that I just have to unwind and find entertainment in gambling. So it’s not really all in profits but mostly in losses i guess, but that won’t matter as long as I enjoyed gambling that time. For me, given this long hours spent in gambling, there’s nothing to regrets actually, as it’s my choice to gamble in my free time than to find myself drinking in bars and returning home late while drunk.

Personally I don’t have any log about my time in gambling since I just gamble occasionally and if there’s an opportunity, when I gamble on casinos usually it took me almost the whole day since its my free time but since I have a limited fund I usually got home early because of losing that small capital. Online gambling are more accessible though, I believe most of the gamblers spend more time online now than spending their time on casinos. You can just have an idea for this by just looking at your first bet up to your last bet during a day.

I understand as you have been an addict before on gambling and now you have manage yourself more to never let addiction ruin your life once again. And it’s really impressive that you just gamble less than 4 hours a week, because for me that 4 hours will never be enough as I may gamble more than 5 hours a week but that will also depend on the extra money I have. I guess there’s no problem actually whether we do it 10 times a week with  gambling as long as you are still capable to manage your time and your bankroll, and what is more important is that you set a budget limit enough to gamble to avoid regrets in the end.

Total random just like the most of us on which we wont really be minding about session time or duration on the time that we are playing. What matter the most or the main thing we do have in mind is on how to win
and we've been thinking up strategies and methods for us to have at least the advantage on the game.We cant really just be that mindful on how much time you had spent.
On the time we do gamble then we are aware that we are really that into those vacant time because we cant just spent up our time inefficiently specially if we do have work
or something important to be done.

If we'll start for this year, I can say that it isn't that much. I've been busy as this has started and that's why my abstinence for gambling for 2023 was stronger.
But if we're going to start during the time that I've also started gambling then totalling all of it would be a lot. I may not be able to beat those hard core gamblers here but that could be like 5-6 hours a week for 10 years. 5 years outside crypto and 5 years when I've started to know crypto.

This is something to be a shame of but honestly,I managed to come out of my addiction. I have played poker for almost 10 hours,I got so addicted that I always chase my lost and this makes me spend so much time and my resources on gambling. Though,it wasn't healthy for me those days so I went on a long break.

I am a disciplined gambler now and all I do is to spend one hour and half or two for gambling every weekend, but on week days I gamble for just 45 minutes,if I have not exhausted my gambling budget for the month. Some persons feels more comfortable when they spend much time on gambling than when they spend little on it.

I spent mostly with dice and sports betting. Before placing a bet with a sports bet mainly with E Sports, it's taking me some time like around 10-30 minutes to look at the match and the teams involved. Looking for some specific news if one will be out and will be replaced by a substitute.

As for dice, it wasn't a lot as I do it automatically and that's just like 5 to 10 minutes of stay.

In combination, it's not happening everyday and it's like every other 2 to 3 days and there will be weeks that I have no gambling at all and then sometimes one. So, it is hard to calculate but that's it.
