After the launch of these ASICs, video cards will become useless when mining Ethereum classic. Asics are already sold out, but I didn’t want to buy :) Title: Re: Killer of old video cards from Bitmain Post by: batsonxl on February 04, 2023, 07:49:03 PM Looks like ethash and etchash will be like sha256 not profitable at all for gpus.damn almost 4ghs just one unit
Title: Re: Killer of old video cards from Bitmain Post by: adaseb on February 05, 2023, 05:36:29 AM Are these new units or old units. I am assuming they are currently in use somewhere at a farm and will be pressure cleaned and Shipped away. Bitmain has been doing this for years with many ASICs.
So most likely the difficult won’t change by much. It will just move to a different home. I don’t think they will invest more money into building more of these ETH ASICs because the profits are not the same as before. And compared to sha256 these have probably a much lower margin. Title: Re: Killer of old video cards from Bitmain Post by: FP91G on February 05, 2023, 09:08:50 AM Are these new units or old units. These are not new ASICs, but a remake of the old version Bitmain Antminer E9 (2.4Gh)https://www.asicminervalue.com/miners/bitmain/antminer-e9-2-4gh The manufacturer added more memory, more chips and a new firmware for Ethereum Classic mining. If a firmware appears that can mine Ethereum POW and other similar coins, then this is the end for mining on video cards. You need to monitor the hashrate of the coins. Luckily the ETHW coin so far is free from ASICS as the network difficulty is just 200-230 T most of the time,a very low difficulty indicating that only GPU miners mostly are mining it while some ASICS maybe doing so also but in very very low quantity.I think most ASICS already moved to Ethereum Classic and they are bearing the cost, the miners mining it which made the difficulty go from 300 T to even over 2 P at some point and the difficulty of them is still very high. Once ASICS start following ETHW it will be the end for GPU miners in the sense that they will mine very low amounts daily but I assume that also the price will grow over time and as such favoring people who have been mining it since the beginning in September 2022. Sure can it mine etc+zil together if you using a proxy pool. A question - i see people every asking about mining together with zil, but i don´t see any big change in zil hashrate / difficulty? Title: Re: Killer of old video cards from Bitmain Post by: OgNasty on February 07, 2023, 08:09:44 PM There will be another coin for GPU miners I’m sure. The amount of money that’s been dumped into GPU mining is so high that those in need of an ASIC-free coin will create their own if necessary. More likely they’ll move to RVN or maybe fork a different coin to become ASIC-proof. i doubt the GPU mining community will just collectively decide to give up and list all their hardware on eBay.

I know and agree that most people would not list their hardware in Ebay,I personally have kept all the equipment but turned on I only have 100 Mhsh from my over 300 Mhsh rig and that is mining ETHW+ZIL,I am also staking ZIL in Atomic Wallet for a nice 15% applied yearly interest. There are options already and I think the GPU mining community just need to make up their mind and switch away from that ETC that almost everybody is mining, that coin has never brought anything good, well except the time the coin got to all time high of 179 dollars and those who mined it when was like 3 dollars had over 2000 or more of such coin and made huge money.I think that another scenario like this one can happen to ETHW too if all the hash rate of ETC comes at this coin. I also hope for a new coin but unfortunately so far things are not looking good for such a development. Title: Re: Killer of old video cards from Bitmain Post by: FP91G on February 08, 2023, 08:38:57 AM ETC gave a good profit to miners who sold the coin for more than $100. But then the hashrate was small and most miners mined this coin on 4 GB video cards, so the hashrate was small. Now the hashrate is above 100 terahash, and if asics come to mining, then this coin will be for asics.

Yes, I sold my ETC coins for $107 each, and I was mining ETC since it was $5 and holding most of the coins. Title: Re: Killer of old video cards from Bitmain Post by: adaseb on February 09, 2023, 05:18:00 PM Only way how there will be some coins or token which will be very profitable is if the US government declares all tokens as securities. Then no project will go the ICO route due to the regulations and will go to POW.
Right now. There is little reason for a new token to go POW. They would much rather do ICO and make tons of money holding the majority of the tokens then do a POW without instamine and then have to buy their own tokens on the exchange. I am mining ETHW as for me there is the real possibility for it to at least go back to its initial all time high of near 142 dollars for a coin which was back in September 2022 and I am an owner of Rtx 3060 ti cards so why not try.Ethereum Classic I was mining it but always exchanging to other coins and that was my mistake so I lost the opportunity to made money there when ETC hit the all time high of 179 dollars for a coin.I don't want to miss another opportunity and I have about 7 ETHW so far but there is no way I am going to sell or exchange them,I am keeping them until they grow in time or they completely fail. I have 119 watt in the wall from the 3060 ti at 61 Mhsh which I think is a great performance/consumption ratio and for 83 watts getting 38.5 Mhsh from that Rx 5600 Xt does not look that bad, well except the price which should not be equal to the 3060 ti,maybe the Rx 5700 xt/6700 xt may justify such price and still not completely but of course these cards are with better hash rate than 5600 xt and with very little difference in power consumption. I would buy these cards if they were like 150-200 dollars each one as 5 of these would give me 200 Mhsh almost and just 415 watt electricity consumption which I think is one of the best options to continue mining your favorite coin. Unfortunately where I am there are only high end cards in the used marked also, there is only Rx 6700,6800,6900 and very few Rx 5700 Xt-s here,we usually only have Sapphire or Powercolor brands so Sapphire which I agree is the best brands for AMD cards is widely used here. The prices though are much higher than that, some people here at 150 dollars are selling Rx 580 8 GB cards so here prices do not drop as much as in other parts of the world, people are attached to their things and want the highest possible monetary value for them even when the time of such device has passed. A good thing though,Nvidia guys usually sell their cards a bit cheaper and that is why I have mostly Nvidias now in my rig,I have shut down the AMD devices. I heard that Belarusian miners buy a lot of video cards in Poland, because mining is unprofitable there.
