Title: 2023 NCAA March Madness Tournament
Post by: ChiBitCTy on March 04, 2023, 04:50:24 AM

Sitting here at home watching my alma matter Southern Illinois University (Salukis) face off against Missouri State in “Arch Madness” which is the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament. The winner of this game automatically gets a trip to the NCAA Tournament, and my Saukis haven’t gone in quite a few years so this game is stressful (pulled off the victory 54-51)

Gearing up for the NCAA tournament and doing lots of gambling! I’m considering putting a pool together, so if anyone’s interested in participating, please let me know. If you’re unfamiliar with how that works, you simply pick the winner of each game all the way through to the championship game. There’s plenty of platforms that make doing this really easy, like Yahoo. Buy-in would be something small like .001BTC

This thread is also just to discuss the tournament that starts soon! ( Tuesday, March 14th )

I would be interested in this. How many participants do you feel we need for a minimum number here? 4? This year I expect to see alot of upsets in the 1st round as noone is really dominating the NCAA currently.

Awesome! I know we could get Wheelz involved. Maybe Hhampuz. So 3 for sure. I’d say 4 would make it still fun. I imagine between us 3 we can drum up at least 1-2 more people each.  Y

Yeah that’s what I love about this year, Kentucky or N Carolina not just absolutely dominating. I expect a good amount of upsets as well. I don’t know if my school will make the tourney but I get up an Illini fan, hoping for them to make a decent run.

When do you think you'll have all the details? We would Need to make our accounts and picks shortly after selection Sunday on March 14th. Games start on 16th(not sure if the 1st 4 are on the bracket, if they are then games start 14th).

Apologies, my dog passed a few days ago so I've been pretty out of it.  I will get this set up by this weekend.

Sorry to hear this. You don't have to set it up if you do not feel like it. There is a bracket in games and rounds put up by betcoin.ag. Of course if you are going to set it up I will still participate as will others hopefully. You might create a thread in Games & rounds to garner interest and update with links to yahoo when created. Let me know and sorry to hear about your dog.

Thank you, I really appreciate it. It’s been rough on me to say the least.

Still happy to get this up and running. I’ve got word from 2 other forum members who are in which would make 4 of us. Im confident Wheelz1200 will be game for it, making 5. Surely we could get a few others with a post in rounds and games. Will continue to try and garner more people as well.

First off dude I'm really sorry about your dog.  Mine is like one of my kids, pain in the ass but would do anything for them.  Tough go man, my sympathy for you.

With the tourney yeah man I'm in, best "playoffs" of any major sport ever.  If someone hasn't watched you should!  I usually take off for the first weekend just to watch 12 straight house of college ball, wife loves that weekend lol.

Count me in and possibly 1 or 2 others for family and one of my friends.  Let me know what I need to do.

I appreciate that brother. It’s been a tough go, trying to remember the good times, but hard to shake being without my shadow after 14 years. Life goes on though I suppose.

Glad to have ya join. Def get some family/friends in here if wanted, the more we can get the better. I think right now we may have around 7-8 participants so far.

Let’s all try and drum up some more

Quick question do we need to be in before the Tuesday play in games or does this touny start when they are down to 64 on Thursday at 12pm est?  I've been in pools where they count the playin and then some that wait.  I will set mine up after the brackets have been set tomorrow night.  Best couple weeks of basketball incoming!!

Good question, I’m not sure. I’ll try and find that out but not sure I’ll be able to find out until the seedlings are set. It definitely is the best couple weeks of basketball. I’ve never not watch the first and second day of games all day while working. Makes those days so much more fun.

Can’t wait for the games to start tomorrow! I have been meaning to install a TV in my office at home but have been lazy so this was good motivation to get me to finally set it up.

Rooting for Purdue personally. Their coach Matt Painter was the coach for Southern Illinois University when I went to school there (during our run of 6 straight tournament bids as well as 2 sweet sixteen appearances) so I’ve been rooting for him ever since. One hell of a coach!

The tournament is finally underway and we are having our first big upset already.

Arizona lost by 4 vs Princeton, as a 15 point favourite to win the game. They had a lead of 12 points with 12min to play and led the whole game, then didn't score the final 5min. That's when they lost the lead and the game.

Virginia falling to Furman was also a little surprising but not as big of an upset as Furman was only a 6 point underdog. Though, I didn't expect that to happen. Furman had a good season though.
The ending was surely crazy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAAsaXX3GYo

16 games down today and 2 upsets, the rest were mostly favourite wins and some wins of small handicap underdogs.

Let's see what day 2 will have in store for us.

Day 2 of the madness had one of the biggest upsets in history of the tournament with 25 point underdog Fairleigh Dickinson beating Purdue 63:58 .

Entering Friday, 16-seeds were 1-150 in the opening round.

I mean on day 1 Arizona was already heavy as they obviously had the game under control and still lost.

But Purdue (ranked 3rd in the nation) losing to Fairleigh Dickinson is definitely another level of crazy..

On my bracket I had Purdue to win the whole thing, hahaha.

Well it's called march madness for a reason.

Lol you're right, there's a reason it's called March "madness".  Man my bracket completely busted by midway day 2.  I also had Purdue as the champion (as I've stated before he's the former coach of my alma mater Southern Illinois University.

As Yahoo had stated early on, this should be one of the best tournaments in a long time since so many teams are equally competitive .

I am in dead last place in my work league. Kind of embarrassing being that I actually know sports quite well, much more so than most of my co-workers who are doing much better than I am lol.  Ahh well, such is March Madness.

Did anybody else watch Gonzaga vs UCLA? Game finished 2 min ago.

What a game! Gonzaga down 13 at halftime, then comeback and led by 9 with 80 seconds to go. 12 seconds to go UCLA hits a 3 to get a miracle 76:75 lead just to get stung in the heart by a 3 from Gonzaga.

This ending was really something else, that's why we love college basketball!

I watched a little bit of that game, especially the ending.  One heck of a game.  At this point though my brackets are so busted it's turned me off of the tournament a bit.  I have never been knocked out of all my brackets so quick and simultaneously as I did this year.  One heck of a tournament though.  As Yahoo and I had been discussing before, the parity between the teams was quite high this year so it's actually been one of the best years I can remember in a long time!

Another crazy day is gone and all number 1's are officially out.

Never seen a tournament like this before with so many upsets. But of course this just makes it more exciting!

Gonzaga vs Uconn will be the most even game in the elite 8 with both teams having good chances to advance. In the other games I am hoping for some more upsets, wouldn't it be fun to see San Diego State or Miami FL in the Final four?

Of course the biggest surprise would be if somehow Florida Atlantic could advance, there is still a decent chance of beating Kansas state for yet another big win, everything is possible.

Yeah it’s been one heck of a tournament so far.  It seems like it’s not all that often that a number one seed , or at least one number one seed doesn’t at least make it to the final four. Again a testament to how well rounded this tournament really was.

My teams certainly didn’t fare well this year, and my brackets crashed way early. Sooo, that wasn’t so fun.

Looks like Yahoo won the pool challenge, congrats.

So our final four is complete now and it's all surprising teams.

One number 4, two number 5's and one number 9. That must be must be one of the most surprising final four of all time.

Florida Atlantic or San Diego state in the final, who would have thought. If you bet these teams right throughout the tournament you would have made a lot of money, and I mean a lot.

Now we have to wait until the weekend to see how it plays out, I'm looking forward to it!!

Yeah I think it' safe to say that yet another year has gone by where absolutely no one came even close to being able to put together that perfect bracket lol.

I mean who would have guessed that Florida Atlanta would be facing off versus San Diego State in the final four.  I guess one could imagine seeing UConn in the final four (they are typically a good team) as well as Miami, though maybe not so much of late.

Personally I'll be rooting for San Diego State. As a nine seed, it would be incredible to see them pull it off.

I think this season might have been the fastest that all brackets have been eliminated. :)
I"m happy to see that no "big school" is in the final 4, keeps things more interesting.

Of course Uconn often plays well but in the preseason rankings they haven't even been in the top 25, so their result really is surprising as well!

I'm routing for FAU here, leaving all the big Florida schools behind and showing them that a team form a smaller conference can do it too.

This has got to be the fastest I’ve ever seen all brackets eliminated. I mean we knew it was going to be a good tournament without North Carolina, Duke, Kentucky etc all being their usual selves, but just amazing how quickly the one and two seeds went down.

These should be pretty good games on Saturday. San Diego State is only favored by 2.5 points and UCONN favored by just 5.5 points.

According to the stats so far, Uconn is the fav by far. If they somehow manage to lose to Miami I hope Miami takes it all as they have have some really good games throughout the Tourney. The game vs Texas was awesome.

However the rest of the tourney goes, it has by far been a crazy tourney. So many upsets and so many great games.
