Title: electrum wallet Post by: wilsder on April 18, 2023, 11:14:49 PM hello
I recovered the file from my wallet recently now i would like to know if this is the right file before typing my password to avoid any unpleasant surprises Title: Re: electrum wallet Post by: BitMaxz on April 18, 2023, 11:24:38 PM If the Electrum wallet reads it and asks for a password it should be the right file.
From your image, it reads it means it's an Electrum backup file. Be careful before you open your wallet backup make sure that you verify the Electrum installer there are lots of guides here on the forum including this one below to verify its authenticity and to avoid fake Electrum. - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5240594.0 Title: Re: electrum wallet Post by: nc50lc on April 19, 2023, 05:09:23 AM before typing my password Create a backup of the wallet file before opening it with Electrum because it'll get updated once you opened it.to avoid any unpleasant surprises "Surprises" could occur when loading an old wallet to a new version despite of it's backward compatibility. Having a backup ensures that you can start over whenever you need to. Another is, load it to an offline machine and just check the balance online, in either watching-only copy (guide (https://bitcoinelectrum.com/creating-a-watch-only-wallet/)) or through the addresses. This is recommended if you think the balance is high enough to be concerned with the security. Title: Re: electrum wallet Post by: Little Mouse on April 19, 2023, 03:44:59 PM my question is should i uncheck or leave its native segwit box to receive old bitcoins? It's up to you whether you want to generate segwit or legacy address type. Legacy addresses started with 1, native segwit with bc1, these are address type and can send/receive bitcoin from one another and vice versa.Would recommend using segwit because with segwit, you will help the miner to allow some more txs into a block. Therefore, for privacy purposes, try to transfer your coins quickly. |
