A few days back I posted a topic on this board on Beware of such ads on Instagram & Facebook! (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5450712.0). I was not aware that Meta's advertisement algorithm is such a shit. As it has now opened the Pandora box of scam ads everywhere I go within the Meta ecosystem.

I am reasonably a logical person with the ability to decide what is right or wrong. As I have been continuously getting such shit adverts. Now, most of you might be thinking why I did not report these ads. The reason was simple I was in a hunting mode to find which one can deceive me. I found one that according to me was the best these scammers can do and to an extent it convinced me.

It is a Deepfake AI video with Elon Musk convincing anyone to invest in this scam project. What made me believe that it is not fake in the beginning is the voiceover done by the AI on this video. You can check the video as I have now uploaded it as a short on Youtube. I did add a heading for everyone to understand it is a fake video.

If you want to watch the video then I have uploaded the video as Youtube shorts (https://www.youtube.com/shorts/86Ve5TKrcYc)

I went ahead and clicked on the Learn more link to see what were they offering. After going through the website I understood that this is another scam website. As it had multiple connect wallet buttons, which is a big red flag for me.

What do you think will happen next?  ;D

So what does this copyright free image you got from pexels.com stand for or stand to represent in this story? Because moreover, in as much as cryptocurrency exist and new launched coins are going 10x to 100x within the first week or month of getting listed on an exchange, scammers will always use that as an opportunity to scam people that may be searching for such gem token/coin, and its left for us to be security conscience and not expose or connect our wallets to any site that promise to offer secret profitable coin gems too good to be true.

If you don't connect your wallet, obviously nothing will happen but once you connect your wallet, and agree to sign for the site to access your wallet then one thing is certain if the site is setup by a hacker.  Once the site is authorized to connect to the wallet and granted a permission to access the wallet, malware will possibly injected to your system and might auto install a script that will drain your wallets fund.

There are lots of cases like this and some member of this forum fell victim to this kind of scam.

to be honest, i really salute the development of technology in this era, especially the development of DeepFake technology, even though there are many negative impacts that have been caused, there are also positive impacts that have been caused by DeepFake.

but the abuse of someone's privacy (such as that used by crypto scam projects above) is so terrible, so always verify and validate anything that is being spread by new crypto projects now.

Every innovation has its users. Some use that to make something good and some use the technology for scamming people. But to be honest I don't find any  good use of deepfake. It was using for to make memes, now scammers got deepfake in their hand and try to scam people's.

Why just my life? why not yours? Deepfake cannot be done by everyone, it requires tools and skills and more often it is easier to catch that it's a deepfake.
I understand your concern however if you are out of buying shitcoins waiting for 100x, you are safe.

I agree- I mean, what use can deepfake contribute when its whole existence exist solely on the fact that they create fake advertisements using real-photo images? This is just a recipe for disaster into scamming people as it seems genuine on its face but it is in fact fake.

While this kind of technology may have its some uses, it has more disadvantages than advantages due to the impact that it can affect everyone. Imagine, you stumble upon an advertisement on Facebook and you saw the face of Bill Gates promoting some fake gambling platform. Of course to a veteran's eye, we would know that it is fake. But for someone who is relatively new to such space, they would instantly and most likely fell for such scam.

Can you tell me what is the positive use of Deep fake technology? All I have seen are fake pictures and videos of celebrities or politicians on social media using deep fake technology. Though the technology may be very good and advance, i don't see humans using it for any good purpose.  :(

Of course the scammer has the tools and money and they use it to scam people. The scammer may hire people who are experts in deep fake and they develop these fake videos in order to shill their scam coins. You are right that if we are careful and do not just trust everything blindly, we can be safe from these scams. However, the concerning thing is that too many scammers are active in the crypto world as they think it's easy to scam the crypto investors.

Why can people easily to spend their money to invest in any project because of a single person?

They invest without their own research about that project.
They invest in that project because of a video, a press release, an article with some words from an influencer.

If they can easily make their investment decision like this, they are stupid and they lose money not because of AI, deep fake. They can lose money even when they meet someone in person and get convinced about potentiality of a project.

It is just a representation to show how an image, or video with a voice circulating on the internet of someone does not mean they are real. The image of the person wearing a donkey's mask does not mean it is a donkey.

because I don't trust anyone, so it doesn't affect for me very much.  Whatever famous people said and talk, I don't believe is it true because I have principles and determination. Whoever does, scammers or real people persuade us for example to invest, we don't have to believe, and we have to investigate and research 1st. I have a friend who is very crazy about one figure like Elon. so that case, if Elon said something, my friend will follow what Elon said, and of course, after that, he got lost and dumped because of his negligence.

Scammers, Hackers & Spammers are always the first to utilize a new technology for negative purpose. Creating a fake video of Elon Musk will certainly get them ignorant fools who have zero idea that he will never make such statements. The worst part is that this advertisement is going to only appear on the feeds of those who have shown interest in cryptocurrency. Some newbies would fall for this trap and  those have some experience in cryptocurrency.

It's just a matter of time before there will be higher authorities that will knock on Meta's door and will bring and invite them back to Congress or the Senate to talk about these scam shits that are appearing on their platform.
They'll be grilled as to why they're doing nothing to protect their users from these scumbags. And just as the news about them that they have to distribute the $700M+ to their users and pay for the data that has been exploited. It won't be surprising if there will be another lawsuit but this time, related to the scams that they're not filtering.

For example, the development of deep generative models raises new possibilities in healthcare, where we are rightly concerned about protecting the privacy of patients in treatment and ongoing research. With large amounts of real, digital patient data, a single hospital with adequate computational power could create an entirely imaginary population of virtual patients, removing the need to share the data of real patients.

Enhance security and fairness - Deepfakes can be used in the identification of digital fraud and crimes, such as acts of banking fraud or identity impersonation.
Use in the health sector.
Increased creativity in the entertainment industry.

all technology created in this world has positive and negative sides depending on who uses it, so keep an eye on it, verify then validate before making an investment at this time.

I recently read in an article that just a few seconds of audio of someone's voice is enough to "clone" them successfully, whether it's a video like the OP posted or scammers using fake calls that use new technologies to make a financial profit. In other words, be extremely careful with any video in which a famous person says something that doesn't seem very logical, and even less believe if someone you know calls you and asks for money or something similar.

A mother reportedly got a call from a scammer who cloned her daughter's voice to pretend he'd kidnapped her.
Jennifer DeStefano from Scottsdale, Arizona told Arizona's Family – a local news station affiliated with CBS – that she received a call from a number listed as unknown. When she answered it, she could hear her 15-year-old daughter crying and saying things like, "mom, I messed up." Her daughter was out of town on a ski trip at the time, she said.

I wonder if this technology can be used on a live video. I might not get suprised seeing such a live video in the future. By future I meant in a a year or two or more. Certainly such AI's might become a big threat to humanity.

As an example imagine the ongoing war and the videos coming out might be not actual. I am not saying all videos but those which are meant for propoganda.

Expect this to happen as the internet still evolving and maybe those methods will exist tomorrow or even in future. We need to increase our critical thinking about this and avoid if the offer is to good to be true since most of that thing are scam. No need to rush all things about this since we can ask those influential guys on their social media account if the video about investment schemes offered is true or not. To crazy to follow on what he said on video since it could give us a big problem especially the video is just used by the scammer to bait people into their scams.
