I think it is possible to use a Bitcoin ASIC for other purposes, like generating random numbers and performing SHA256, it is not efficient or practical use of the devices. ASIC is only designed for mining Bitcoin, and it would not be an effective solution for other application. An ASIC is a server that you can never take out of its basic use, no other known applications for now. Ultimately, you can reuse the heat produced by your ASIC to heat yourself, or for your water heater, but that's not the point you are interested in I think.
