Title: Scam circulation, newbies be at alert.
Post by: Hatchy on June 04, 2023, 09:28:58 PM
I want to bring it to the notice of all newbies and members of this forum there's a new post, going on in different board claiming to give free Bitcoins to all members of this forum. Please don't engage with it, it's a scam. I'm creating this thread because there recent increase in the rate of scammers here on Bitcointalk and they would want to target the newbies especially.

This user has created same post on 2 boards, the Eonomy and Bitcoin discussion. He locked both thread so no one would reply. I know that moderators will do away with his post soon, but he is likely to create it somewhere else or even with a new account, so just be careful and don't contact anyone from that website.

this discussion belong to scam accusation board https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=83.0 and not here.
You must provide details and proofs if available about this scam.
BTW thanks for share...mod will delete quickly these posts. But generally rule (rule of thumb) if someone is going to give you something for free... it's a scam! If people doesn't understand this passage, ok they are going to get scammed even if they will find these explanations!

Was typing a reply before the thread was locked and later deleted.. will drop the reply below am sure the user will see this thread.

Like you want me to go to this website and claim free Bitcoin worth $2200+ just for free, and this offer is valid for 50 people online, which is about $112,000+ total, that's what you want to give out for free... This lie is too good to be true. Even without going into the site, I can explain how all this will work. If you want someone to create an account on one of your broker sites that has no real users or real-time money on it, then the person will have to use the promo code, which will immediately deposit the audio funds into the user's account. When you try to withdraw the funds, your system will request a withdrawal fee, which the user will have to pay. So that they can be able to withdraw, which, in a normal sense, is meant to be deducted from the withdrawing balance provided they are off the same network. This kind of scam is old-fashioned.

Newbies should all just be careful with anything they see online, and one thing that can make one fall victim to such a scam is if the person is very greedy and eager to make money. If not, it is very obvious that the entire thing is a pure scam that could easily be identified and avoided.

This is not related to bitcoin discussion. You can move this to scam accusation.

I think this is not necessary. But this could be just my opinion about it. On every post, you can see 'report to moderator '. Just click on it as and report the post.

One of this have been taken down. Remaining the second one which will also soon be taken down.

Edit: The topics have been taken down.

This type of scam has been on going in the forum for 4 years or even more. There used to be a thread in this board where such scam sites were being tracked. In fact back then, it was so rampant in the forum. These days, they just pop up once in a while.

The posts seem to have been deleted by the moderators. I just wish they had just nuked the profile as the intentions are quite clear. I will leave a tag just in case the come back and post.

at the moment there is no new post about betradux.com, it seems that the swift action of the mods made the scammer realize his scam here won't work and didn't bother pestering the forum with his scam. I won't be surprised if this is posted on other cryptocurrency forums or social media like Facebook and Twitter.

Another scammer coming up with a new strategy. Got instantly exposed and banned. Actually newbies should be aware of different kinds of scams not only here but also on the internet.

According to my understanding anything that look unbelievable and free will result in a scam. Most newbie fall for scams that offers monetary unrealistic hope. If anyone comes with such an offer always ignore or block that person.

OP, it may be worth deleting your quoted post as well, as you unwittingly become a distributor of what you are now complaining about.
As long as these topics were deleted by the moderators, then you should not tempt with this quoted post those who want to take a chance and do not believe in your warning.

I am not aware of this since its already deleted but by quoting it and posting it here newbies might be tempted to this giveaway because if you check on the deleted post there is no mention that you will be charged first which I'm sure they will it's an old trick to make you sign up and claim.
I first encounter this scheme three years ago in a scam casino the inviter made me a winner because he claimed to have access to the admin board I won a huge amount but I need to deposit first to validate my address before I can withdraw my earnings, sound new to newbies but same old scam trick.

You are completely right mate, this is just the same old trick, i first came across same scam trick quoted in the op in 2017 when I newly signed up on discord, I received the message as a pm from an unknown user, I actually believed it, clicked on the link they shared, signed up and used the promo code that I was given, and the supposed bitcoin were deposited into my account, I tried withdrawing but was told to deposit at least, $100 worth of bitcoin to validate my account before I can withdraw, I was actually going to fall for the trick, but my savior was that, I had no single bitcoin then, and there was no where to borrow from, and in the process of thinking where to get the required bitcoin from, I kind of came back my sense, and then I began to reason that, if the whole stuff was legitimate, why don't they just remove the required $100 worth of bitcoin from the money on my account, which was worth over $80,000 at the time..

It's a cheap old trick, but  yeah, still new to newbies I believe.

I agree, OP you should edit the quoted post or just remove it since you've dropped the profile of the one that keeps on posting that trick/scam as it looks interesting for some newbies to "try and test" it and nothing is gonna be gone to them until they become a victim of this scam.

This revolves in almost websites where they can get victims and even in social medias. I doubt it that the profile will leave the forum, he might just make a new account and do this again when no one is noticing it and he's kind of lie low after these posts.

Scammers are not creating platforms to scam people for Bitcointalk, they post it on telegram, social media like Twitter, and of course other Cryptocurrency forums, the platform is still up and will remain up until there are too many scam reports and they are exposed, they will take down the platform and they will create another one after a week or two.

They kept doing this because there are many gullible in the Crypto community, people should understand the basic
if it's too good to be true then it's a warning sign, and always keep updated it will not take hours to do your own research, you will save your hard-earned money doing this.

Scammers don't really have a specific target, they just make a random selection, any one that wants to fall will fall, no matter your rank on this Forum. If they have a specific target I think they won't waste any time in creating threads in different places in this Forum. OP this notification you gave is really a welcome development and I think the warning should be placed out to everyone on Bitcointalk and not only the newbies, as it is every one here is a target, we should be careful.

I don't see any reason why OP should remove that quote! The topic in question was removed and if he didn't quote it, me and many other members, wouldn't understand what this thread is all about.
Besides OP clearly stated that this is a scam attempt and no one should sign up on that website. If someone signs up on the website after reading this topic then, sorry! It's his mistake not OP's.

Your observation is correct because the quote could be a means of advertising the scam. Your comments remind me of how children behave. One of the ways to push children away from harmful objects is not to expose them to the object. If you show them such an object and warn them not to touch it, they will be tempted to check why you told them not to touch it. Deleting the quote is essential because members might want to try the platform.

This type of scam has been on going in the forum for 4 years or even more. There used to be a thread in this board where such scam sites were being tracked. Back then, it was so rampant in the forum. These days, they just pop up once in a while.

When the projected profit from an investment becomes too high, one needs to be careful. When a site or crypto firm is offering free money, people need to be more than careful. The economy is hard during this period so even a dollar now is precious, so losing a dollar now will be very painful. Thank you, OP for sharing this important message, because greed and misinformation will always attract some members to these crypto platforms.

Thank you for taking the time to share this warning!
I believe that the user doproid901 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=3559223) is now banned and all of their posts have been deleted. While many people and BTT users might consider it an obvious scam attempt that anyone can recognize, I would say that this assumption is not true. There are always new users and individuals with limited experience who may fall easily to such schemes and tricks, mistakenly believing that this is how cryptocurrency operates and that it's an easy way to get some money.
Unfortunately many victims fall for these manipulative traps, where scammers fool them with bonuses or promises of free money that simply don't exist in the real world

This is not new since I see this on facebook and telegram where they always target those newbies thinking to find where they can earn easy money. And usually those innocent souls will always fall for this schemes.

So people need to be realistic on this and should know that there's no one will give them a money for just doing nothing. And if someone ask for money then say they can double it or earn passive income with them then its a big red flag and need to avoid.

Another scammer coming up with a new strategy. Got instantly exposed and banned.
I don't think he came up with anything new. In fact, it's probably one of the oldest tricks in the book. He has created a fake exchange. Once you register an account and apply the coupon code, a fake balance will be displayed in your account. You will think you have bitcoins, and try to withdraw them. That's where the actual scam begins. The site will ask you to deposit a certain amount for "security reasons", "network fees", "verification" or whatever else they have come up with in the meantime. Since greed is sometimes stronger than logic, some people will deposit the asked amount and that's the amount they will get scammed for. On top of that, there is the threat of identity theft if you submit any documents to the site for KYC verification.
