Title: Metamask and Bitcoin.
Post by: Turn it off on July 02, 2023, 03:51:41 PM
I installed trust wallet and metamask, but I found that metamask does not have a bitcoin wallet that I can use to accept my bitcoin. I even tried searching the internet to see if I could enter it into the wallet the same manner I did with BSC, but it was all for naught.

Community Is there a secure way for me to deposit bitcoin into my Metamask wallet?

No. MetaMask only supports Ethereum and EVM-compatible chains (Polygon, BSC, Fantom, zkSync, etc.) so there's no way to deposit BTC in there unless you're referring to WBTC which I wouldn't recommend anyone to use.

In addition, Trustwallet is a close source wallet and not recommended. Use open source bitcoin wallet like Electrum, Bluewallet, Sparrow...

Hardware wallet, use Passport. Or maybe Trezor for multiple coins. But do not trust Trezor coinjoin as it is from Wasabi which is working with analytic company.

Metamask wallet does not support Bitcoin, trust wallet supports Bitcoin but i do not recommend that you use it to store your Bitcoin. Download Electrum wallet and deposit your Bitcoin there, and if you use IOS, download BlueWallet and deposit your Bitcoin.

as the members have said, Meta Mask does not support Bitcoin. if you are planning on storing Bitcoin I would suggest considering the open-source wallets Charles-Tim mentioned. if you have questions about them, don't be shy to ask.

If you ask how, then there is no way for you to use Metamask to store Bitcoin.
Use another wallet to store Bitcoin.
Trust Wallet is a multi-chain wallet that supports to store Bitcoins but it is not a wallet that is recommended by many experienced users for security reasons and other constraints that are often experienced by users.
In my environment, many have switched to other open source wallets from Trust Wallet.
There are other wallets that support more than one coin type which can be used like Unstoppable.

OP it is nice you asked this question and you did asked the question on time and at the right place. These are the areas  scammers take advantage of newbies as a result of ignorance and steal away their funds.
Meta mask does not really  support bitcoin chain but  trust wallet does. I would advise you to follow the instructions of Charles-Tim as he is vast and more experienced too.

Like other said there is no way to send BTC to Metamask unless you talking about Binance-wrapped BTC or BBTC that support the ERC20 network.

What exactly do you plan why do you want to use Metamask to store your BTC?

Are you planning to withdraw BTC from Binance and you see other networks like Bep20, bep2, and ERC20? Once you withdraw them to metamask you won't be able to recover them. Better find the right wallet to receive BTC just like what they suggested above but if your purpose is to reduce fees you can only use other networks when you need to transfer it to another exchange that supports that network.

If I remember correctly I've seen a post by MetaMask back then that they were going to support Bitcoin(yes, BTC not wBTC). They must've changed their mind.

But anyway — just download BlueWallet on your mobile phone; or use a hardware wallet if you want cold storage.

~Snipped.

Maybe they later realized that the core of their business is supporting Ethereum, EVM blockchains and their ecosystem products. One of the proven ways I've seen blockchain and web3 companies is to do one thing and do it well.

They might at some point support Bitcoin down the road but the Consensys team currently has other priorities and products they are building.

As many members had suggested the only way to store BTC on metamask is by wrapping them (WBTC). which is not that hard if you just follow some steps by any guide (http://datawallet.com/crypto/add-bitcoin-to-metamask) on the internet or you could watch a video from YT they are legit and if you are afraid and it is your first time just transaction with only a small amount. But do not worry WBTC also work and it is maybe not recommended by most users that's because there is another best option available so they care about you and want you to adopt other good options.

Such as Electrum wallet or any other you prefer or you can store BTC in Truswallet too but if the amount is small then otherwise move to open source wallets such as Electrum etc. Which are better in every way than the Trust wallet and Metmask. Well, I should mention a thread that will help you to choose better options to store BTC. It also contains Hardware Wallets to store BTC.

Note and warning for OP. Don't buy tokenized Bitcoin tokens. They are not Bitcoin, but altcoins. As tokens, they can be de-peged from Bitcoin price.

Don't buy any token like these

Electrum wallet is available for Android users on mobile

Download it from https://electrum.org/#download but don't search it with Electrum in Google Play, avoid phishing wallet softwares.

As many members had suggested the only way to store BTC on metamask is by wrapping them (WBTC).
That is not storing Bitcoin, that is giving out your Bitcoin and getting a fake version of it in return which you can then store on metamask. No one should be handing out their bitcoins when there are many open source and safe alternatives to store Bitcoin, real Bitcoins.

What OP should take from the thread is that trust wallet is not recommended and should be avoided.

Why will you even advise anyone to swap their Bitcoin? After a careful investigation in this forum, I have come to the conclusion that there is no such thing as swapping one's Bitcoin because the Bitcoin blockchain doesn't support any bridge from its main chain to any other EVM-compatible chain. Adding to what Upgrade00 said, All that's done there is just a criminal way of convincing real Bitcoin holders to hand over their Bitcoin in exchange for something else; that's what con-artists do.

Those tokens you call BTC might some day lose their value in the market if the entity in charge happens to file bankruptcy. They will all be like shitcoins with no value. You can take the Luna stable coin UST as an example.

Exchanging with fake versions is the same as holding Altcoins, better for the right way out besides using Metamask and Trust Wallet is to use Elecrum as the main storage of real Bitcoin and there will be no exchange of fake Bitcoin oak or other Bitcoin chains. Bitcoin remains Bitcoin, it cannot be changed. Installing Electrum is very easy and is also available as a mobile app.

There is no method to deposit Bitcoin into a Metamask wallet unless you're talking about wBTC, which is a token that is not real Bitcoin, and I will also advise you not to use a Trust wallet as your storage. The most suitable option is to use an Electrum wallet or hardware wallet.

It is not possible to do that and that's it. You should use another wallet like Electrum to receive BTC or to accept BTC as what you have said if you don't get what I mean. There's no way you can receive BTC to your metamask because metamask only supports chains like what OmegaStarscream. EVM stands for Ethereum Virtual Machine and there are chains that are like that. Since you installed trustwallet, you can also use it ti receive BTC.
