Title: Translation help
Post by: PrintCoins on December 14, 2011, 03:08:46 PM
I am designing a custom hologram for physical bitcoins, and I would like to make it multi-lingual.

What is the best word(s) to use to say something is a genuine item.

English words:
Authentic
Genuine
Original

This would be to signify that this item is not a fake.

Also, do you primarily use the word Bitcoin, or do you use some translated form of that word.

In Swedish common translations would be (though there are other options too):
 - "authentic" -> "autentisk"
 - "genuine" -> "äkta"

We don't use a translated form of Bitcoin.

To help you figure out the best word to use please provide as much detail as you can. What exactly will the hologram say in english? Will there be two separate words on it ("authentic" and "bitcoin") or is it more like a sentence "(this is an) authentic bitcoin"?

This is for physical bitcoin bills:

The hologram will have the bitcoin logo

and floating behind it on a black background it will say original in multiple languages. The hologram is tamper evident, and under it is the private key for the bill.

In norwegian translation:
"authentic" = "autentisk"
"genuine"/"real" = ekte
"original" = "original"

Maybe it would be best to focus on the greek and latin common words that everyone in the western world has some connection to. But bc is big in Asia too I read ;)

In Danish translation:
"authentic" = "autentisk"
"genuine"/"real" = ægte
"original" = "original"
