Title: NVidea opensources CUDA platform Post by: nixxle on December 14, 2011, 03:21:55 PM http://developer.nvidia.com/content/cuda-platform-source-release
I was just wondering if this could mean anything for bitcoin mining ... ? Title: Re: NVidea opensources CUDA platform Post by: cronopio on December 14, 2011, 03:32:34 PM Hi!
I hope this will improve the miners soft. I guess with this info the miners for CUDA can do a better work. Thanks Nvidia, and thanks for all devs working on this. ;D Title: Re: NVidea opensources CUDA platform Post by: LegitBit on December 15, 2011, 03:53:43 PM Well this does open up the compiler to be optimized for bitcoin-based applications, though I doubt much gain is to be had.
Similar to how some modify their C compilers I'm betting someone will do the same for us. Though I do not think it is actually 'open' to everyone yet, just that they are planning on releasing it. I'm more interested in AMD recently open-sourcing their OpenCL stuffs: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=MTAyNjk Of course I am in no way a coder so have no clue whatsoever if that is even relevant. ;D Title: Re: NVidea opensources CUDA platform Post by: Red Emerald on December 18, 2011, 07:23:37 AM NVIDIA's hardware is just not as good as ATI's when it comes to integer math. Even with optimized miners, NVIDIA hash rates will (sadly) never be close to ATI.

With some assembly code for it?! Who will give it a try ??? I don't think nvidia's advantage in floating point math will help at all. With some assembly code for it?! Who will give it a try ??? |
