Title: Important information about the forum
Post by: Assiduous on July 13, 2023, 02:07:02 PM
Welcome to all forum members!  Recently I noticed that many new members don't know all the rules, me being one of them. It's not really our fault.  Because not all rules are written. The members of this forum are eager to help you, so you can learn all you want about cryptocurrency by asking questions and ask questions where you are not clear.  Searched for some important information for new members that need to know about your forum. I also read this information. New members like me need to know the information.  The information may have been given by people before.  But I re-posted it, so new members can easily see it, no need to search.

Most of the important threads are pinned anyway. See below.

There is really no need to repost them, since this thread won't be visible anymore in a few days.

Welcome to all forum members!  Recently I noticed that many new members don't know all the rules, me being one of them.
And you want to guide other forum members, are you serious?

It's easy to learn if you and other newbie members to read sticky threads. They can learn most of rules and basics and what do they need? Time and readiness to learn.

  • [Bitcointalk sticky threads] Newbies - read before starting. (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5279088.0)

No. I am a new member of the forum. Currently I have no knowledge to guide. But I want to learn a lot by spending time on the forum. And help everyone like you.

You changed from want to help new forum members to help legendary members, seriously?

Silently learn and ask if you are unclear, don't write non-sense guide topics like this one, please.

Recently I noticed that many new members don't know all the rules, me being one of them. It's not really our fault.

Whose fault then when you're here on this forum and all you could think is to do what you feels like, if this is what other members are doing then there will be no moderation to the level of how you've met everything being coordinated like this or to this extent, the rules are there for you to go through them are read including other threads pinned, we don't create time to read before taking actions or seek after knowledge first, especially when we are being introduced to something new.

Because not all rules are written.

What do you mean that not all the rules are being written? Once it's not written on the forum's rules and regulations then it should be treated as not being part of the rules at all.

The members of this forum are eager to help you, so you can learn all you want about cryptocurrency by asking questions and ask questions where you are not clear.

But it's a pity that you could discover how some newbies are showing i too know whereby a newbie that knows nothing is trying to advise other newbies, we don't have to fake things here to imprest anyone, you will always appears the same way your true identity is with time.

every newbie in the forum should read more information, including those related to forum rules. although there are also those who ignore it because they have different goals such as just wanting to take part in the bounty campaign. they don't really take forum rules into account.

I think beginners must be confused in making their first post, they will only read more without actively participating in the discussion of certain topics. especially for a new topic that they really don't really understand. Newbies looking for information should have seen the threads pinned by moderators with important information on each board. so they shouldn't have missed the information. or at least when they come from a certain country, there is already a local board that can help them.

This thread you have created for the help of newbies as you say? If newbies who have registered on the forum don't look for these pinned threads in each board how come you are sure they will look into your thread and then click on those links? This thread will be buried under pile of others thread moving back to pages while the pinned threads remain on top so it's more easy for them to go through them?

Are you for real? Like a newbie like you who hasn't been on this forum for more than a month wants to assist a legendary member who has been on here for years.

Isn't that an insult? What sort of guide will you provide for him here on the forum that he hasn't read about? You had better be aware of the viewpoints you express here. You shouldn't let the fact that the forum is open to everyone's opinions prevent you from being at least somewhat polite.

No offence Op, but, I see this thread as a waste of time. Because in less than three days this whole thread will become buried by other threads making it difficult for others (newbies) to find. Aside from that, most of the links in your post can easily be found in meta and beginners & help board making it more useless.

Are you for real? Like a newbie like you who hasn't been on this forum for more than a month wants to assist a legendary member who has been on here for years.

Sorry to say, but no matter your status in this world you should have an open heart to learn from others no matter how low they are to you in status comparison. You will be surprised about the thing you will learn from those that you think are beneath you i.e. if only you would submit yourself to learning...

Ops since you want to share forum rules to keep members of the forum mostly newbies updated with the forum rules,  but you have violated one of the forum rules that could get you ban in this comment,  you copy and paste is not allowed in the forum,  best way to do that is the quote the ops and make your comment instead of copying and pasting which is prohibited.

Indeed you are a fast learner seeing that you already learnt a lot for yourself before considering creating this thread where you reposted links for informatios that has been shared before now good job but I don't think it's necessary since the information is not hiden for any newbie who's eager to learn about the rules and other things about the forum and Bitcoin. Imo, I think you should focus on getting knowledge for yourself first and make more research to guide your knowledge before trying to teach your fellow newbies because it's very difficult for them to believe you since you are few days in the forum and in the same tank with them.

Don't be discouraged by the response you get but let it motivate you to give yourself more time to learn so that you will have what to teach others when the time comes, as it is generally said, you can't impert knowledge to others when you lack knowledge so learn before helpin.

OP you have done well. I know the response you have gotten here would want to discourage you but do not relent.  There are other newbies who would find your post meaningful and helpful to them to scale through in the course of their presence on this platform.
Nevertheless, you too can do much better than this and from your little activities I have found out that you are good in trying to be creative here which had led you to creating this thread.  It is not bad your efforts as it is welcomed. You can do very much better than this mate.
Keep up with your good work.

Almost all of the links you posted are already pinned in the beginning and help sections, as well as the meta board and other sections in the forums. I don't think your post is necessary because the information you're sharing has already been passed here, and pinned threads are more beneficial because they always appear at the top of the sections, unlike your thread, which will soon move down after people stop engaging on it.

And you want to guide other forum members, are you serious?

No. I am a new member of the forum. Currently I have no knowledge to guide. But I want to learn a lot by spending time on the forum. And help everyone like you.
If you truly want to learn, be mindful of how you interact with or respond to some responses, particularly those from senior colleagues, because they have the expertise to lead and teach you whatever you want to learn in this forum;. Nonetheless, this forum is an excellent learning environment, and if you quietly want to learn, you will learn to the best of your ability.

What a wasted effort. This is why newbies should relax and understand what’s going on before making these topics. This may sound harsh but the truth usually is, there are already pinned threads on this board for newbies to read. Anyone who misses the pinned threads will definitely miss your thread, which will likely move to the bottom after a few days.

And you want to guide other forum members, are you serious?

No. I am a new member of the forum. Currently I have no knowledge to guide. But I want to learn a lot by spending time on the forum. And help everyone like you.

Good initiative to remind new comers to see this link but I think it would be great if you are able to embed the link to the title of the thread like this:

Newbies - Read before posting (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1689727.0)
Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=703657.0)
[General] Bitcoin Wallets - Which, what, why? (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1631151.0)

This way the reader can have a prompt idea what is the link you have given is about.  I think it is  enough to just link this: Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=703657.0) because it contains all the details about the forum rules and the list of forum boards and each information.

It will be a great thing if you just sit back and learn. There is no harm in you trying to share a knowledge with the forum but the reason why other members are against this your thread is because there are multiple of these thread already spread across this board and even the entire forum just to give newbies a start up kit, some were even pinned for easy identification, but still some newbies go ahead to ask the same questions. So just look at it if someone can’t click on a pinned post how will they locate your thread that after two to three days be way down.

Creating exciting threads like this, mostly regarded as spamming. So if you feel concerned about sharing them which is a good thing, then whenever a thread about them been needed are created by newbies then you can just proceed to reply with all this links. I think that way it will be much appreciated than having it on a thread.

Additionally to all new users and some members who are not yet very familiar with the forum, even if you are to comment or want to ask questions about some posts you find appealing and interesting or not very clear about, your inquiries should always be about that specific topic rather than of the topic or should be reasonable and understandable to all viewers or members so that they can have a very positive answer to the inquiries. Also this should serve as a reminder to users not to copy or submit content that has previously been posted by another user. All the new members are highly welcome to the forum.

Thanks for wanting to help OP. You’ve done well by putting together those links for new members to see, hopefully if they get to see it before your post disappears from the first page of this board. All boards already have sticky posts to guide newbies and new members going to that board to post on the rules guiding those boards. You can find them and learn from there. Maybe you missed out on that, go back there and you’ll be enlightened the more about the forum there.

As  he professes to be a rookie, he may still be learning about the forum and may not yet know how to quote a user. Allow him the benefit of the doubt so that he can learn as soon as he understands further about the forum.

OP, I know you're trying to get something done on this forum but I'd advise you make it more interesting and different from the other threads or newly created topics, it should be informative, just make it unique to avoid harder and hurtful replies that might kill your enthusiasm. Making use of the search bar is really important but I don't think most of the users here care to make use of it, as a newbie you have to use it to know what kind of topics are already on the forum to avoid repeating same topic.

You said something about newbies not knowing all the rules on this forum which is true, nobody is perfect and some higher members can even fail the rules guiding this platform but it doesn't mean we're all above mistakes, just take a glance through the rules and regulations that you can and try to keep by it, doesn't mean you must read everything on this platform. But to cover it all, just read every rules on every thread you find yourself.

As a newbie it might seem like you don't have the right to engage or do something on the forum just forget all that would discourage you and move on.

I'll recommend you exert that energy on yourself, you need it more than any newbie does except maybe you think you have already known it all. Don't be in a hurry to pour out immediately the very little you have learned, digest it, articulate more and grow yourself with it. For you this stage is a learning stage and not a teaching one.

Welcome to all forum members!  Recently I noticed that many new members don't know all the rules, me being one of them. It's not really our fault.  Because not all rules are written.

I can see that you have not been to these forums for even two weeks, so I wonder what knowledge you have acquired in less than two weeks to share with other forum members and even the newbies. But when you said all the forum members, you meant even people who have been here for almost or more than a year; you can teach them what you have gained in less than two weeks. However, everyone you see in these forums knows the rules guiding them. But only newbies like that have yet to be acquainted with the forum rules. From the first time we join the forum, we learn the rules and regulations guiding the forum, so don't say that many users don't know the forum rules.

However, anything you see that is not specified in the forum rules and regulations means that it is not among the rules, therefore I'm not sure what you mean when you say that not all rules are written there.

This takes me back to the topic; Newbies Stop Teaching When You Need To Learn (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5456580.0) created by GifteMAN. I know you put some work into this but this is a wasted effort and completely unnecessary. There's a distinct difference between reading and learning. You might have been reading but clearly you've not been learning because if you do, you wouldn't have made this. You would have noticed that there's always a pinned message containing rules and regulations on every board so that one can read and familiarize him or herself with it. My advice is don't create topic like this anymore, take some time to read and learn and it will definitely help you.

I'll tell you a story that you probably don't know. Once the forum was thoroughly checked for plagiarism, many accounts were banned. Some people were banned not for intentionally copying someone else's content, but because they simply didn't know how to properly quote and reply to other users' posts. You present yourself here as literate and take it upon yourself to teach others, but in this case, you are as ignorant as all beginners.
What you have done in this post is copy someone else's answer. And now you deserve a ban.

But I re-posted it, so new members can easily see it, no need to search.
The information you post is a general rule or basic rule for beginners, but some beginners don't read and visit it, beginners who come here are of various types, there are gambling, bounty hunters, scammers, loans, mining, Bitcoin, Altcoin, legal, Local and etc.

Each board that I mentioned above has different rules, many of the rules that you haven't mentioned here, over time you will understand and understand all of the rules, depending on where you start, as long as you are willing to learn and understand everything that is here, you will get much of what you want.

Beginners & Help board section, rarely visited by newbies, less percentage than here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=238.0, that's where the most beginners are, like bees, the beginners there who should really understand the rules, if you want to help and advise them.

This is the problem with newbies on this forum. Instead of searching and finding it, they think it doesn't exist and we should create a thread and get some Merit(s).
Refrain yourself from doing these things. This forum is since a decade and the probability of it not having rules is zero to none. Instead, you thought not every rule is written and then you attached some post URLs.

Instead of copying those URLs, you could have made this post much better by quoting them here itself. Could have saved potential 3-4 clicks for everyone.

They barely just take their time to read through platform to see what is obtainable there. They assume and get themselves into trouble and when it dawns on them they start crying foul and appealing to be granted pardon which is not feasible. This platform have been existing for long so why would they not know that rules are obtainable here or they they think this is a lawless platform?
Lousiness and poor research is sometimes the issues being displayed here by most newbies and they care not about it.

Honest this is crazy and I am so surprised right now seeing a newbie trying to pass information about the rules of the forum when we are not even sure if he is following or have read the rules multiple times to assimilate the necessary things that are needed to be followed. I don't like it when a newbie is trying to advise other newbies when he has the responsibility of making sure he follows the rules and the guidelines of the forum. @Assiduous, It's not much stress to look through some of the most important rules on the forum (do not spam and don't plagerize). Definitely, there's no one who doesn't make mistakes, but once you come on the forum with an open mind as a real newbie (because some people pretend to be newbies when they are not), you will only make some minor newbie mistakes. For example, one question can be asked 100 times in the forum on different threads by different users, and you will still see some similar opinions in those threads. In some cases, you could still be referred to the same topics like that, and you will be advised on what to do.

Sometimes you could be asked to lock your thread because a similar thread has been created, and a link to the first similar thread will be shared with you. So, as you keep being active in the forum, you will learn by visiting different boards and looking through them(you can fine some pin message). Where you don't understand some things, you can create a topic.

You know mate newbies want to grow very fast so they damn the consequences and forge ahead. Just like you have said, any newbie who takes their time to read would definitely scale through because all they need to know about the platform are visibly and clearly written and pinned on the various boards for all to see. Although no one is above mistake but if they make any, it would just a minor fault as a result for their acquaintance with the forum policies but for those who do not read are always crying victim because they fail to hid to advise.

Nevertheless, making use of the search engine could help them minimize the rate at which they ask similar recurring messages and flooding the platform with unnecessary spam post. Sometimes, if they really look into replies and comments, they could learn more because information and knowledge are mostly found in comments and replies by members trying to be nice.

Anyone that want to learn or read about the forum rules can easily check different boards and look for there rules there. I don't see any necessity for op to post link of some forum here for newbies like him to check it out when it is always advised for anyone that want to understand the forum, to always check the rules and and try as much to work adhere to it. The rules are simple and it is what can be comprehended with time being in this forum. Sometimes it is laziness that makes some persons to find the rules not to be that important to them because they want to grow very fast without reading and doing accordingly to the rules of the community.

On the forum, you know a few newbies already know their way around here, but they only pretend to be newbies, and I assume most of them intentionally spam with some topics, but rather they only try to make a little midification from the old similar topics that have been created, which most times their interest is just to earn merit and not for them to make a good contribution. Spamming will not end; it can only be moderated by the forum moderators, as they will topics that are not worth discussing or have probably been discussed. That's why sometimes you will suggest to a newbie that they lock some threads, but they will not.
When I first came on the forum, I never knew how to search effectively on the forum until I was reading through some topics on the beginners board, where I came across some topics with suggestions on how to search effectively on the forum. Most newbies don't have that patience; if they did, they could quickly learn how to use the forum within a short period of time.

Welcome to all forum members!  Recently I noticed that many new members don't know all the rules, me being one of them. It's not really our fault.  Because not all rules are written.
I also had the same problems with these unwritten rules when I came to the forum. It would have been easier to have a single document so that one can read and internalize it. But the only way to know and understand these unwritten rules is by spending more time in the forum. Unwritten rules are learned through observation and experience. Newbies are supposed to be reading instead of creating threads to teach others.

And you want to guide other forum members, are you serious?

No. I am a new member of the forum. Currently I have no knowledge to guide. But I want to learn a lot by spending time on the forum. And help everyone like you.

So now you are also victim of same ignorance you want to eliminate!
This is the case of a doctor taking a drug overdose or a soldier shooting himself in the foot. Ignorance is not an excuse before the law but I hope Op will be pardoned for this blunder and not suffer the consequences. He wants to teach other newbies more complicated rules while he is not even knowledgeable about the basic rules.

Am sorry to tell you this but to be honest with you, this thread is of no use, all the necessary things which everyone and newbies will need are already on every board and they are being pinned already, so anyone that visit the board will see it at the top so this thread is of no use to me.
If know one post on this thread for a long time then the thread will be at the bottom when no one will be seeing it again, so what’s the use of the thread or are you going to keep bumping the thread or after some months you going to create similar topic like this again? Honestly I will just recommend you lock the thread because it’s not going to serve any purpose here, the rules and regulations are already pinned.

Good luck on your journey, you have a very long journey ahead and you should not be bothered about helping other newbies but rather be focused on improving your knowledge on the forum. Until you have acquired some certain amount of knowledge before impacting knowledge to others.

This post will certainly go down the pages and probably will be difficult to find in a few days so its just as everyone is saying, there is no need to create this thread because all the links you have provided already exist and pinned so everyone using the forum can have easy access.

Instead of copying those URLs, you could have made this post much better by quoting them here itself. Could have saved potential 3-4 clicks for everyone.
Exactly, but I doubt if they can even make quotes, they are too lazy to read and learn and all they are after is earning some merits. There are so many things to learn on the forum and understanding the forum itself is a huge task on its own that must be learnt before you can be able to achieve anything here.

You can click on the link too to learn somethings about the forum since you are also new here. I like your energy but there is nothing wrong where a newbie like you is trying to help you with some link to learn about what you ought to know as a member of the forum. There are so many things to learn here so you need to be aquatinted with reading and learning new things so that you can adapt as quick as possible and ensure you don't castigate others too that are trying to learn and understand the forum. The community is friendly and ready to help anyone that are serious.

If you actually wanted to help the community on this forum and new members, shouldn't have created this thread which has already been created multiple times.
Why not use the infamous search functionality provided to you by SMF? Creating threads which are duplicate/not unique won't help anyone at any time frame.

I suggest you make unique content and that might get you more traction, good luck.

Welcome to all forum members!  Recently I noticed that many new members don't know all the rules, me being one of them.

You're right, dude. If you're new to the forum, I don't think there's any better place to learn more than by reading the linked link. When I first joined the forum, that is where I first learned more about forums, the site's regulations, how to earn merit, and how to avoid some actions that can negatively effect your account. I haven't seen anyone in the forum attempt to bring up how a newcomer is going to learn than to add to the former rules, even though adding another suggestion is not all that horrible.

I'm not saying this because I'm flawless, but rather because I believe the forum's participants have a right to work together to prevent anything negative from happening.
