I believe 8 smerit is not enough to open this type of thread, if indeed you want to share your merits to those that you feel warrants it then I’ll suggest you navigate around different threads and distribute them rather than creating a thread for newbies to submit links of their posts.

We have a lot of newbies out there that are really doing a good job in discussions it will be better to encourage toupee ones than to wait some that just make threads upon threads without actually discussing (as a user stated recently) because those are the type that this thread will attract.

Or you could just locate fillopone’s thread and distribute it to newbies that already submitted their links there for review

I just don't want to dishearten you or discourage you because you do start a good topic and wanted to help the community to grow without even thinking that members might criticize you for creating a whole set of rules for giving only 8 merits. I mean that's good as you have a kind heart but I think you should not create a topic and ask newbies to share their posts here so they can get that lower number of merits. I am not saying that these merits are not enough because drop by drop an ocean fills.

This means 1 merit can change someone's mood and encourage him. But the best way would be to give merits by searching for good and valuable posts for newbies and sending them merits on their posts. You can find my good topics in BTC discussions and even on local boards. I hope you will have enough time to surf on different boards otherwise. If you are an active member then you will find good posters while reading/participating in discussions. And then you can give merits there. But still, I think you wasted your energy in creating this topic.

Op, just 8 merit is Very low amount to cover up Newbies. But as you already created this thread, i suggest you to give merit only best Newbies among everyone who will have applied for merit. Don't give away to them who will apply first but to wait for some time check out some applications and then finalized your decision. This may better in my opinion

I believe 8 smerit is not enough to open this type of thread.

Your statement is valid and i agreed.
but perosnally i found this thread helpful. As you said, there are huge newbies who are really doing good jobs but i saw nowadays earning merit is hard enough. So it could be an opportunity for best newbies who really deserve merit.

He can just look for the newbies and merit them. This thread is not valid because eight merits is too small. He can easily see quality posts to send the eight merits to.

I do not see any other reason OP created this thread than a way to look for merit for himself.

What’s the essence of creating a post for sharing 8 merits when a single user already is entiltled to 3 merits from 8 of your smerit that means only 3 three members will benefit from this thread. There is no need to create a thread with such low smerit.

Your innovation is good but if you are looking for ways to earn merit you should at least have enough smerit in your bank.

You have a point and I truly understand.  However, making the post might not actually be that bad since it is possible others can support him in giving more merits and not just the 8 merits. I have seen similar threads where others joined the OP to distribute merits to deserving members and that is a way of contributing to the community by supporting and encouraging low ranking members to give their best.

In summary, if he gives his 8 merits and others also give even if 2 merits, it will go a long way. Instead of discouraging genuine intentions,  we should support and motivate.

This is a personal decision and choice, op wants to give out some his or her smerit and that doesn't attract much statement, anyone who is interested can as well drop it's three links as instructed by the principal been op, i don't see reason while we will be discouraging op by saying that the merit is too small to distribute, theirs many newbies out their who wants only three merits to be full member rank and jr member who is looking for three merits to be member, so if you are not willing to apply you can skip the thread.

If you read my post well which I’m assuming you did, you’ll see that I gave him several suggestions on how he can send his smerit so I don’t see how I discouraged him here.

Or are you in support that everyone here in the forum should start creating a thread for every merit that they want to share? The main essence of merits is to award post that you feel helped you or is relevant to a discussion not for people to start coming to you to submit links… the reasons why you see merit source create topics like this is because they won’t be able to read all the post that has been made in the forum so instead they’ll ask the people to bring the post to them for easy access but for a small smerit like this I still don’t see the need for the creation of this thread like I said earlier.

I quite agree with @Cantsay. It's not every deed we do or want to do that requires a thread opened. This is just unnecessary waste of space of you ask me. So what, after he has exhausted the 8 merits what then happens to the thread? Or is he planning to keep updating it? Like some sort of giveaway thingy?
I commend your effort at trying to encourage quality posts, op but creating a thread for it is not necessary. There are some things that don't need much public announcement. Just pick randomly and stop creating unwanted traffic, yeah.

This is a good initiative but to be kindid i have to say my mind concerning this that i don't think it's something that really worth creating thread for, considering that you yourself doesn't have much smerits to give to make this thread sustained for a while and you're not a fast merit earner like that, you can randomly visit some boards and pick active users or quality posts from there and merit them without louding it this way, also if we are to consider the numbers of merit threads we have, they are mostly created by merits sources and those who have accumulated more enough to give out.

I believe you have good intentions. if you are a Merit source, it might be more helpful. even members here with more sMerits just wander through every thread they usually visit and give some that they feel are worthy of merit.
Happy if you could continue this thread with more sMerits you may get in the future. but don't forget to lock the thread when your sMerit quota has run out. you can't expect it to fill up immediately like the Merit source. it will come to you if there are more people who appreciate your post.

If it's only 8 merits then give it to the rank that needs it the most to get him started and motivate him to participate in discussions these are newbies, no offense to other ranks but when you merit newbies you are giving him a reason to continue, we remember people who give us the first opportunity in our ventures so why not just prefer newbies.

And it's better to roam around looking for newbies who are active in discussions because you can compare their output to other posters instead of having links provided to you.

If you have at least 30 merits to give then that is the time that you can create a thread and include other ranks.

OP could have directly merited people across different boards since the amount of merits he has to give isn't huge.
He would have easily found many posts to merit. Either he is too lazy to find the posts himself or may be he has created this thread just to get more merits.

10 for effort for creating this thread, 10 for the initiative to help those newbies, but 1 for the fact that you created a thread, but you have a low amount of sMerits.

I have 30+ sMerits right now, and whenever I see a thread that's merit-worthy, I'm trying to give it. I also browse those threads where they're helping other members to rank up when they're only a few merits away. TBH, I don't want to dishearten you OP because I feel that you really want to help, but users here especially those high ranked ones see your thread as a way for you to earn merits without asking them or posting quality posts indirectly.

Well, after sharing those precious 8 sMerits of yours, it would be better if you will lock this thread already. I guess it would be better if you will just help those members who are only a few merits away from ranking up instead of newbies. Nothing against newbies in general, but I see that better, but hey it's your sMerits. :)

OP, I appreciate your idea for creating this topic, but if you only have 8 merits, it doesn't mean anything, you are not a merit source, you are just wasting your time creating a topic like this, I suggest you create other more interesting ideas like quizzes or something else so that the merit sources can help you provide some merit to the members which have post on your this topic, or you can try contacting theymos and asking him to become one of the merit sources.

OP, you're creating an unnecessary thread just to get criticized again. I can understand that you want to do a good deed or accept the role of a source of merit. But, as many have said, look around; your few merits can be given to absolutely any beginner without requiring him to defend a doctoral dissertation. Do it just like that. Don't you remember this moment of receiving your first merit? Be more simple.

By the way, have you noticed, OP, how newbies have lined up in your topic with your requirements? :)

@Jocuserious your effort is commendable (assuming its genuine and not a merit fishing tactic) but you could have easily shared those 8 merits you have without creating this topic.

On top of that, there are already several active merit giveaway topics started by merit sources, meaning members who can consistently keep giving merit and who unlike you won't ran out of them.

OP, I really appreciate you generousity, as you can see i just saw this post of yours and I was eager to read it, but unfortunately, I got discouraged of applying because when I checked the applications here, they are already three applicants, which shows that your 8 merits wouldn't be enough for my own application.

You are not a merit source and this is why you don't need to start what you wouldn't be able to finish, what will be the fate of those applicants that are trooping to apply..no hope. Next time, you should give out merits secretely without creating a thread for this, so that as soon as you run out of merits, you stop and continue when next you have accumulated a good number and you would owe no one any explanation.

Don't worry, if he mentioned in his post that, he will distribute those 8 merits among only newbies then he is now obliged to do that. Before making this topic he could give those merits to anyone but now it has become his responsibility. But I am quite shocked to see that OP made that much effort in creating this topic just to distribute 8 merits. I think Op wanted to gain some attention or did not find anything useful other than creating this topic. Please OP do not mind, I might be judging you wrong here.

You are right, as 8 merits may not be that much but are enough for newbies, but the thing is, making that much effort and then filtering newbies to see which deserves the merits and then giving them only 1 or 2 merits. I think that's a total waste of energy. But if OP likes this way then it's his choice no one can stop him.

I have 8 sendable merits (sMerit) stored that I have not yet spent from the earnings I have earned for 120 days.
https://talkimg.com/images/2023/09/18/6ylkI.jpeg
I think the remaining 8 sMerits that I have now will be allocated to people who deserve it.

Topics created by several legendary members on several boards to help members who have good posts but have difficulty getting merit are available and for me are quite good.
As far as I know, those (legendary members) who opened this topic are sources of merit.

Your intentions are good. I know. If only you take advantage of the 8 sMerit to give to members who you think deserve it, there is no need to open this topic anymore.
You can open this topic just like on a local board. By that, I mean topics that invite local contributors to judge the merits of member posts. So, anyone who has excess Merit - not necessarily a merit source can also provide it to members who have good qualities.
In my local area, there is one legendary member who opened the topic [HELP]Bantuan untuk menaikkan Rank (Newbie s.d Hero) V.2 [UPDATE] (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5253221.0). Me and other friends can help others.

You should see the proof

It's a nice initiative and I really appreciate your attempt to support beginners, but your merits you have will run out quickly, and since you love to help, why not collect links to the posts that you think deserve merits and send them to the merit source threads. This way, your effort will be better and will help more.

I wanted to send you merits and support you, but I fear that this will encourage more members to create more threads and beg for merits.

Exactly what I want to say, mate, what is the use of creating a thread for only 8 smerits? I believe the OP did this thinking that other senior members of the forum will also give him some merit’s because if not be like that, how are you going to give 8 merits that are worth creating a new thread for? And asking newbies should apply, although even one single merit is something for them, but that doesn't mean you should create a new thread.

Instead, you can just hang around the forum and distribute these merits without wasting much time. You can even give two or three users; that is all. Because if the 8 Smerits finish now, I believe this thread won’t be active anymore, which is not how it is supposed to be. You could have checked some boards and seen any replies or threads of any beginner that were worth meriting; you don’t need to suffer for your self-created topic.
You can see how people are criticising you now. It is not that we are criticising your thread, but what you want to do doesn't make it worth creating a new thread.

Op, I understand how you feel about low-rank members and thanks for your good initiative, but sorry to say you do not have enough Smerits to carry out your plans.
Although, it is not necessary to create this thread if you want to help people to rank up, why? Because you do not have enough Smerits and you are not a merit source, if you want to do it because you care, just give to any user you feels that is qualify to get a merit reward from you.

Already, there are some newbies who have dropped their best post, so you can still merit their post since you said you have only 8 smerits that means after you have sent out the 8 merits, you should try and lock this thread.

You don’t have to send proof, we can see your merit history and available smerits using bpip.org, no one is doubting whether you have the smerits or not, the issue is why create a thread for such small amount of merits. Finding accounts to merits isn’t that difficult and with the amount of merits you have at the moment, you won’t be able to sustain this thread if applications gets to 3 pages. There are newbies already posting their links here, I don’t think any of them have received any merit yet.

There are some merit sources that have thousands of sMerits being allocated to them on monthly basis and they don't create threads like this. They just look around for quality posts and distribute merit accordingly. I don't mean to sound disheartening, but having 8 sMerit does not warrant opening such a thread. You're not a merit source that will be getting your own share of sMerit every month, so if you exhaust your 8 sMerit, what next? Please kindly lock the thread, look for quality posts and distribute your sMerits.

Hey mate are you for joke or what? This should be the work of merits source and not you with a limited merits and why stressing newbies to give out just 8 merits you can freely give without attaching any tasks maybe if it was around 100 merits above you are giving out we can say those rules worths it but for just stressing yourself and also other to create this topic is something I think is not called for, and between how many merits do you think you can give a user for going those stress?

Maybe 1 or 2 and if by 1 you can only give a total of 8 users and if by 2 you can only give a total of 4 users which I think it doesn't worth it hence I will suggest to lock this topic if there are nothing much you wanna do or maybe creating this topic to me your weekly quota.

Somehow, I can't shake the thought that this is an attempt to collect some additional merit, because hey, who wouldn't give merit to someone this generous?
I guess the whole idea is based on some similar merit giveaways mega threads, which were started by merit sources who received a certain amount of merit just for opening the thread.

This topic seems entirely for merit fishing purposes. I believe you have good intentions but if you can't even find 8 posts to spread your sMerits on your own, then maybe this is not for you. Imagine every user who has sMerits to open this kind of threads.
There are a lot of merit related threads, you can send your merits to the links in those threads. It helps merit sources to find good posts.

Op why not report those posts to a merits source to give them merits because I know that hugeblack also offering free will to merits some post, and this is only for local boards so why not just began to pick post from your local board and report to him along the line you earn while those posts you reports to him as quality post also earn merits as well. By doing this you are accumulating merits as well to give to some people whom you find their post valuable enough.

Although if others are extending their hands to locals I don't think there could be much volume of people applying for local board merits source, but since such is not done and some locals (LB) are lacking merits this propel lots of users to start applying for merits source you can find them at the meta section but, so luckily hugeblack decided to be extending his hands to locals which I will also like every other merits source to extend their hands as well without waiting for a user to pm or apply for their thread before the could get those post merited, with the initiatives the request for merits source will be eliminated by 70 to 80 percentage.

Understandable you're trying to help some users which is appreciated if it's not a plan for you to seek attention in other to get more merit cause 8 smerits are small to create this type of thread when you can just give it out to users that serve it.

It is a nice initiative that you are thinking of helping the newbie of this forum to rank up.  I commend you for that action, but I do not think that you have to create a topic for this since there is already many thread like these, instead, you could just visit those existing threads and give merit to the replies on those threads that deserve meriting.

As a result, even if your intention is genuine, we cannot deny that many of our fellow members here will be skeptical and even thinks that you are into merit fishing since we have observed that thread like this have received many merits so instead of being appreciated you are getting bashed by our fellow members. But do not be discouraged, if your intention is genuine enough, you don't owe anyone an explanation.  Just do things you think is the right thing to do.  Good luck and hope to see this thread active and may you receive more merit to be able to continue giving help in form of merit to newbies who deserve it.

Note: I myself have not opened this to get merit because i have many helpful posts where i have no merit. I just want to give some of my submitted merits to new members so that they can be encouraged to do better. You should encourage me.
Of course you have good initiative about your idea - but if you really want to help newbies then you don't really need this thread. 9 merit is a very low amount to start the game with - just do it quietly on newbie users who you think deserve it, so that's a better advice for you in my opinion.

You don't need to attract a lot of attention from other users to prove that you want to contribute to the merit system - unless you are the merit source. This isn't a reason to put you down anyway - but this idea isn't really expected if you want to help.

I had 8 merits in my account but today I got 1 merit so now I have maximum 9 merits which I want to give to members from Newbie to rank up. Because there are many posts where they are deprived of merit.
How are newbies, junior members, and members rank deprived of merit? If they make any post that people believe is worth meriting, they will merit it, and they will rank up, but you don’t just expect merit to be given to a post that’s of no use to the forum, anyone that want to rank up will have to put effort. Also, I don’t think anyone is arguing with you that you don’t have smerit, all you should have done is just visit different sections and look for posts created by low ranks that you think are worth meriting, and you can just merit them. You shouldn’t have created a thread for it, it’s of no use.

Op is a senior member trying to help newbies with his earned smerits;
I think, this is not a bad gesture. Remember he isn't a merit source.
I opened a similar thread when I was in the member rank, not even upto full member rank.
[NEWBIES] Earn your first merit  (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5353190.msg57636902#msg57636902)
This only showed my desire to help my fellow newcomers but it came rather early.
Op, you may decide to visit other merit threads to help newbies next time.
All I know is that, this post requesting to help newbies is better than the random posts I do see here in BH asking how to earn merits and rank up.

Hey mate are you for joke or what?
Why stressing newbies to give out just 8 merits you can freely give without attaching any tasks maybe if it was around 100 merits above you are giving out we can say those rules worths it but for just stressing yourself and also other to create this topic is something I think is not called for, and between how many merits do you think you can give a user for going those stress?

I have seen such attempts before.

Maybe who knows but if this were op's real motive then is wrong I can't imagine myself creating such topics knowing too well that I have a very minimal amount to give out, so why do I raise such topic at the first place? It makes no sense for doing that, although he might not have all these feeling we are having but genuinely wants to give out, he could have just given to few post he founds interested.

I really agreed with your statement, if really you want to help you should have done it silent. Are you trying to let us know how you build your own account, even some of merit source have not open thread like this and to them you also need help. You have taking a nice step but not yet time to carry out this boarding, I really apologise for my words because no matter what you are ahead of me in the forum which you deserve my respect. The nine merit is to small to open a thread for with all this condition.

I have just 8 smerit which i want giving Newbie, jr member and member for there rank up.
You're either just being overtly ambitious or futuristic, which is it? BPIP data doesn't show you've even the eight merit you brandished you would give out.

What’s the essence of creating a post for sharing 8 merits when a single user already is entiltled to 3 merits from 8 of your smerit that means only 3 three members will benefit from this thread. There is no need to create a thread with such low smerit.
You can imagine the futility in OP's act. It's already defeated.

Of course - but I don't completely fault his good initiative although some users seem eager to shout when they want to contribute. In the end OP's efforts seem inappropriate even though in fact anyone can spend their sMerit to anyone and with any scenario.

It doesn't seem like I have any responsibility to answer the questions you actually deserve to ask the OP - but I hope we're all not bullying her and blaming her entirely for the initiative.

My one suggestion to the OP - contribute to the forum in any way you see fit. It's just that - some constructive suggestions are worth considering rather than assuming they are an attack on you. Good luck with your other effort.

I will commend OP for this decision taken. Although 8 merits to some is nothing but to some it means alot. Nothing is too big and nothing is too small just 1 merit could help someone push up to the next rank  however creating a thread is not too necessary but I think it would also available the applicants the opportunity for other merit source to look into their profile to giving them a push to the next rank.

In all, OP has done well and should be applauded for his or her kind gesture. It would be nice we give OP the necessary support required.
