Title: Trezor problem! Post by: lombok on September 23, 2023, 10:21:24 AM Hello guys. I have a Trezor Model One that I bought around 2017. It suddenly turned off and wouldn't turn on when I connected it to my laptop/computer.
I've tried changing the USB but it's still the same. Is my Trezor broken? What about my Crypto there and is there any solution from members here who might experience something similar? My computer gives me a notification that trezor is connected but the screen is completely dark so it’s useless already. By any chance, do you stuck your trezor device unused for a long time because this is what happened to my trezor and this might be the common damage of this hardware wallet. Meaning that you can import your seed phrase on any other BIP39 wallet. If you can not repair the Trezor, you can buy another one.If you have your seed phrase backup, you have access to your coins. Yes, that is true. I didn't use it for more than 1 year because at that time I was busy with offline work, I didn't have the time or thought to access my wallet. Is this problem only experienced by Trezor? what about other hardware wallets? I've tried changing the USB but it's still the same. Is my Trezor broken? Post by: Charles-Tim on September 23, 2023, 11:18:39 AM Can I access it on software wallets BIP39 With my phrase backup? Yes, you can, but your seed phrase will be online and less secure. If you have an airgapped device to spare, you can use it instead for a while to setup cold storage wallet like this for bitcoin: https://electrum.readthedocs.io/en/latest/coldstorage.html It will even work on altcons BIP39 wallets. Example is Unstoppable wallet. Title: Re: Trezor problem! Post by: lombok on September 23, 2023, 11:41:53 AM Can I access it on software wallets BIP39 With my phrase backup? By changing the USB, are you referring to the port that's plugged in or the cable that came with it? If it's not the latter, then you might want to try it with another cable that's capable of transmitting data.I've tried changing the USB but it's still the same. For altcoins, and someone who's into Dapps etc. you probably won't find much use of their software (Trezor suite) because it doesn't support any of that, but you can always link it to MetaMask (which is also open source). Trezor is open-source! I have edited it, it was a mistake. I know that Trezor hardware wallet is an open source wallet. I was referring to Trustwallet wallet, I have also edited the quote.Trezor wallet has been one of the hardware wallets I do recommend, but only its coinjoin that I do not recommend, which is from Wasabi. I wouldn't recommend Trust wallet for storing large amount either but to be fair to them, the vulnerability mentioned in the article is apparently related to their open-source library (Wallet core): https://github.com/trustwallet/wallet-core Title: Re: Trezor problem! Do you often use your Trezor? Once every three/four months.I have edited it, it was a mistake. :)Trezor wallet has been one of the hardware wallets I do recommend, but only its coinjoin that I do not recommend, which is from Wasabi. Exactly, it's a shame they chose that route.Title: Re: Trezor problem! You don't have to write your username at the bottom, we can read your name in the left panel. --Knight Hider And I also thought the same, as why the OP would test it on TW while Charles-Tim suggested using an "Unstoppable" wallet. Maybe, he (OP) trusts TW and has been using it for a long time and that's why he thought to give it a try, or maybe he doesn't have that much money and he can bear the risk of opening the HW in TW. PS: I am quite shocked to see, how and why these hardware wallets are going dead, I mean, ok I get that the updates keep them up to date and working according to new infrastructure, but why is the screen going dead? That's not supposed to happen. It indicates that hardware wallets are still evolving and they have still not reached to a point where they will not make such issues. I think the issue has been resolved as OP has recovered the funds in TW so this thread has done its work, or we are now talking about the issue of going dead! Title: Re: Trezor problem! Post by: BitMaxz on September 23, 2023, 04:26:57 PM I think you can still repair this no backlight issue.
If you don't know how to disassemble the unit there is a guide on YouTube on how to tear down Trezor (https://youtu.be/BzxGoJdd8a4?si=R-JM0XVAenzyc14x) If you have a soldering iron you can resolder the LCD terminals it might be just cold solder joints it always happens to any electrical board or if not then you have to replace the LCD. Title: Re: Trezor problem! Post by: m2017 on September 23, 2023, 05:49:10 PM I have changed the USB, ports and cables that can transfer data many times. The result is still the same, my Trezor screen is dead. Are you sure the problem is with the display? And if not? If the defect is in the display, can I try to replace it? Are there cases where the display fails on its own, without even using the device? After reading about @lombok’s problem, I had a question: it turns out that periodically hardware wallet (namely trezor) need to be connected to a PC/laptop (power source), otherwise this could lead to the device failure? Could this be related to the memory of this device, which stops working due to a long lack of power? I've heard that something similar happens with USB flash drives. Otherwise, I don’t understand how the device failed. This case requires detailed analysis, as it may affect many trezor device users. OP, how about contacting trezor's support and describing your problem. It would be nice to know what they have to say about this. And also, if possible, provide the trezor HW for diagnostics from the service center or specialist. Of course, under your close supervision and only with complete trust in them. Title: Re: Trezor problem! Post by: dkbit98 on September 23, 2023, 08:24:07 PM I've tried changing the USB but it's still the same. Is my Trezor broken? What about my Crypto there and is there any solution from members here who might experience something similar? Is something happening on your computer when you connect it, I mean is computer detecting that new hardware is connected? You can also try opening Trezor Suite in the same time to see if there is any change or not, if nothing happens that maybe some internal component inside device is fried. I don't hear often that people complain about trezor display and I don't thin this is the issue, but I could be wrong. If screen is the issue that should be trivial to replace, in any other case you should buy new hardware wallet with open source firmware. Title: Re: Trezor problem! Last time I checked it was still connected to Trezor Suite. But what else, after I haven't used it for a long time but experience screen death, and there's money there, I'll still panic and think it's broken because every time I try the result is still the same, the screen goes dead. Is there currently a solution or advice from Trezor? Does Nano Ledger also experience this? wow, what do you think is the cause? and is there a solution from Ledger regarding this problem? ~snip~ This is why I was determined to access my Trezor phrase to Trust Wallet just to make sure whether my money in Trezor which experienced an error could still be accessed. I know the consequences, that's why I chose Trezor or the previous hardware wallet to store crypto. However, due to this unexpected incident I had to take action. So from this incident, is the hardware wallet safe? or is something like this normal in a hardware wallet? and can it be fixed? I think you can still repair this no backlight issue. Thank you for your useful tips. I will examine this further. And looking for someone who specializes in electronics in my area to help with the screen recovery process on my trezor. Luckily Trezor Suite still detected my hardware wallet device ~snip~ I'm sure because my Trezor HW is still detected in trezor suite. Well... I'm also still curious, whether because I haven't accessed it for a long time caused this problem or not. Not only on Trezor, there are also those who experience it on Nano Ledger as well, as @SFR10 said in his findings on the subreddit. Title: Re: Trezor problem! Luckily Trezor Suite still detected my hardware wallet device That's a good sign that the only problem with your Trezor is a broken LCD or no backlight issue. It seems Trezor is not selling any LCD from their website but if you are looking for an LCD model check out this model Lcd 2864HSWEG01 price could be around $3 I found it in Aliexpress. Title: Re: Trezor problem! Post by: SFR10 on September 24, 2023, 08:40:48 PM Is there currently a solution or advice from Trezor? Does Nano Ledger also experience this? wow, what do you think is the cause? and is there a solution from Ledger regarding this problem? Yes, it's a common issue with their discontinued S version [refer to the number three on "this (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5370521.0)" thread] and the only solution was/is to replace it with another display that'd probably also die.If you don't know how to disassemble the unit there is a guide on YouTube on how to tear down Trezor (https://youtu.be/BzxGoJdd8a4?si=R-JM0XVAenzyc14x) Thank you for your useful tips.
