Title: Transactions in mempool fell off a clif?
Post by: Coose365 on October 04, 2023, 01:24:01 AM
Anyone have an idea of why txn count has fallen so hard recently? it hasn't been anywhere near this low in over 6 months.

A BRC-20 token called Sats which launched earlier this year finally finished minting all their tokens. The hype for Ordinals has also declined significantly. These NFTs and token minting were taking up a majority of blockspace but now that user interest has plummeted it alleviates the mempool backlog and reduces fees for monetary transfers.

If you take a look at the all-time mining history, the spike in transactions followed by a significant decrease is not surprising.

I second the opinion that the recent one is affected by the BRC tokens, but it is possible that the BTC price movement also affects it to some extent. I don't think you need to be worried about it as of now, considering people still mine even before BRC tokens were a thing. CMIIW.

If they alrady made some profit with previous experiment, do you believe that they will stop there?

it is more complex then that.  Viabtc has been paying 104 to 105% due to the excess tx numbers

they have dropped to 99% so about 0.06 x 6.25 = 0.3750 coins per block are gone.

stretch it out to 144 blocks  and that is 54 btc not going to miners per day . about 1.458 million a day lost to miners. Thus miners are dropping like flies at the moment.
