Title: Transaction fee in chart expressed in Bitcoin not USD, any tool?
Post by: examplens on October 25, 2023, 04:21:48 PM
In some analyses, I need to know the TX fee for each block from the previous period. Of course, expressed in sat/vB.
Is there a tracking tool like this? Manually can be tiring
Everything I've found is in US dollars, which isn't very helpful to me, especially when there's huge volatility in the value of Bitcoin like the last few days. Plus, all known charts (at least to me) only have an average value for a specific day, and that's not very helpful to me.

Use mempool.space.
It shows the median and the minimum and maximum fee rate used in a block.

Below is the data displayed by mempool.space for the most recent block.

I hope I have understood you correctly.

Does Bitcoin block data available in CSV format (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5246271.0) have what you're looking for? You may need to add some spreadsheet magic.

Are you trying to look for the average Tx fees in sats/vB (Remember this can be affected by transactions with much lower mining fees that can be included by the meaning pool for acceleration) or rather the total Tx fees for all the transaction in the block?

Use mempool.space.

That's what I'm using right now, but I'd like a simpler solution if I need to go back a day or more.

Yes, I need a lot of magic there.

I was thinking something like this https://bitinfocharts.com/comparison/bitcoin-transactionfees.html#3m
But as I said, the value expressed in satoshi, and not only the average daily value but all the changes during the day.

I think the data I gave you has all this, the data is per block.

Or, if you want to go full spreadsheet magic, I have a much larger data source: Bitcoin block data (728 GB): inputs, outputs and transactions (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5307550.0). It has the "fee_per_kwu" for each transaction.

Both are updated only once a day.

Blockchain explorer mempool.space can be considered the best tool to check all fees data within any block. It's my default browser in my Electrum wallet.
Besides, i always use blockchair.com which is a good alternative as well. It shows the best fee rate to get your transaction confirmed and updates instantly. I prefer blockchair because it offers a navigator addon which can be easily installed and friendly-used.
In general, most open-source wallets provide a feature of knowing the average fees before sending, which can be trusted without resorting to an external site.

I tried searching and most available are only average stats of fees everyday, both in BTC or USD. I see Loyce https://loyce.club/blockdata/ is more specific but you need to have a huge work on that text file for it to be manageable and organized.

But.... that's the fun part :)

I can probably do it myself, including daily updates, if someone else makes a one of those online graphs (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5425124.msg61585337#msg61585337) with daily updates.

I just checked this thread again, is there anything to come up the sat/vb of total tx fee in a block? I checked blockchair as what LoyceV's using for its data dumps and as it has more info of a bitcoin transaction. eEx.block 814593[1]. But there's no info regarding it, only the Total fee, Fee per kB and also Fee per kWU.

I'm not sure I understood what you wanted to ask. Is https://mempool.space helping? I prefer how they show it
For example the same 814593 block https://mempool.space/block/0000000000000000000268e824c3406d2feb07319c0e28a0e6122ed69b4f2aca

I'm referring of this quote...
I need to know the TX fee for each block from the previous period. Of course, expressed in sat/vB.
The tx fee of each block which is in sat/vb that you are looking for, in which there is no info i can see on mempool.space or even in most/all of the block explorers.
