This is something I've always been wondering about. Gamblers tend to have a league, be it basketball football or any famed sport, that they tend to love most. For instance in the USA American football and NBA betting tend to be very popular, while in south and south east Asia countries cricket is also very popular among other sports. So people tend to have a league in a certain sport that they know the most about, have a favorite team in, know the players etc.

So what's your experience with this. When your league is in break, do you tend to try to follow other leagues that you're familiar with, or will you gamble on anything really? I'm interested to hear what other people have to say in this matter.

For me personally, I try to limit my gambling to teams where I know at least some players, because otherwise it's easy to get carried away. Really in my opinion, gambling on leagues and sports that you know little to nothing about, only increases the edge against you.

In sport, I prefer football the most. If you are a gambler and checking the livescores sites, you will see that there are many leagues and all of them do not begin and can not finish their seasons at once. Just like those like EPL, Bundesliga, Ligue 1, Seria A, and some other ones may finish at once, but there are still many other leagues that you can continue to use for betting. Football is played is all through the year. I have favorite leagues to choose from all through the year.

As leagues go on break for the players to rest, the break is also for gamblers to rest too. When your favorite league to bet on is on break, you can take that time as a time to rest and steer clear from gambling. You do not need to gamble always or have alternative games to gamble on, there should be times when you give yourself a break so you do not become too addicted to gambling that you lose control of yourself. These break times in leagues is an opportunity for that.

This is really a good question because maybe some have advice or suggestions to share here, but betting on anything I have no clue about is no real alternative for me. I usually wait until that break is over, but since I like a lot of different kinds of sports there is rarely a time where there is nothing to bet on. I think when you are interested in football, tennis, basketball and some other sport like racing, there are opportunities for good and fun bets pretty much year round. But if there is nothing to really bet on and I want to have a good time, there is also stuff like poker or a round of blackjack.

I would not make my biggest bets on sports that I like less as I rather save that for games I can watch and enjoy and also know a lot about. Maybe reducing the bets is a good suggestion to still have some fun, but hold back with the really exciting bets when the betting options are back to normal.

It depends on the the versatility of the gambler in question. They're gamblers who very good in betting on different sports and are still good in each of them while there are gamblers who are very selective in the kind of sports they gamble on.
The gamblers that are very versatile when it comes to sports of specialization rarely stop gambling because when one particular sport is on break they switch to others while the ones that are very selective in the sport they gamble on tends to stop gambling whenever these very few sports are on break.

Well end of the season is a resting time for most football lovers most especially this is because at that point, they will still have the chance to follow up with other activities that may keep them busy until the league resumes again and that is what most of the other sports lovers may be doing also before resumption.

Although is also very hard to see a gambler who only loves one line of games,  some of them are fans of multiple games and leagues,  and for they are always engaged and no dull moment for them as long as the season and breaks are concerned because while maybe football leagues are on break he continues with the NBA,  or Tennis etc,  that is how they go through the year making sure that they keep their engagement at all time.

I follow other leagues. Though tbf, most of them are actually after another. or conflict most of the time. During those times, I usually just bet on whatever I think I'd enjoy, I still watch the vods though if I have time but I only vote on the ones I watch live. Especially if you consider how there's some new team unknown to me at some matches, can't help but lose interest by then. I usually enjoy matches with players I know after all.

It is kind of dumb to bet on a sport you don't know about though, that's literally one of the important factors that separate sports gambling from plain gambling. A factor that you can see and derive how it can influence the match, and thereby make a bet based on that. If you don't know jack and start betting, might as well just play dice really.

You were faster than me in responding to this question and for sure what I wrote in my earlier comment reflect exactly your thoughts on this subject matter and right as leagues are ending another one begins and those sport tournament organizers always schedule each league for a different time,  and that has really helped the gambler to remain focused and on timely with how the follow various leagues.

So if you look closely, league breaks are only for the players and not the fans or gamblers because of the last two,  all they want is just to have an available game to divert to immediately when one finishes.

Personally, I go for basketball games when my football league is on break. But, it's mainly a non technical kind of gambling. A type that doesn't require me to do enough analysis before betting. Because, due to my region, basketball isn't famous like soccer. So, I don't watch the game often. But, loves staking games on it, just for the fun. Instead of not gambling at all. Even most times, I still don't watch the game after betting on it, because I'm mainly used to watching football. Unless a big basket ball team wants to play. Seeing basketball stars play is always fun, the trills and magic they perform with the ball is quite memorable. I don't think that I'll ever look elsewhere in sports gambling, except these two games. Additionally, I feel relaxed watching basketball, as the teams are not emotionally attached to me. That's any team that wins I'm good. Never going to bother about it, like in football. Where I'd always want the team I bet to win and when they don't, I get a bit worried. This happens because I'd feel that my analysis on football game isn't improving.

What would I be doing when my league is on break, I will hang out with the boys and take some bottles together at a bar shop, that's so happening because I've already set out the good time I'll be spending and I'm hoping no schedule I've will keep this memorial moments with the family because they always come best time to spend with another. Betting on something when my favorite league is in break, break period is also my resting time away from gambling, though I perceive desperate actions towards the OP post, perhaps it's just thread concerning gambling and maybe he's in such problem or must have encounter such.

I always switch to leagues that keep me entertained like esports and NFL, which are usually scheduled on the weekends, and a bit of basketball in between. I still bet on other sports that I have no idea about only because i'm participating in a competition that introduces us to different sports and leagues. I don't recommend what i'm doing since it's focused on getting the most enjoyment out of my gambling budget than making a consistent profit until the end of the season.

We do know that we do really have that second teams or third ones and so forth. It doesnt really matter or an issue whether you would be having a break on betting too or would really be proceeding out just usual since you've seen that other teams or players hadnt a break on which you could really still be able to make out some bets out of that. It would really be that according into your own preference and liking yet there are individuals who do really strictly stick into their one team and on the time that they would really be making breaks then it would be understandable that you would really be also making a break too.

Also we do have different sports that we do have on which we do have that specific favorites on a certain sport but of course it would really that depending
because not all would be having multiple favorite sport but rather sticking into one. There's no sense on making up some bets which you arent
even have the idea on what are the things happening.

I'm also into NBA betting, and the league goes from October to June, and after that it's like 3-4 months of break.

Nah, as for me, I don't play or bet on any other sports, or I don't like to bet on games that I don't know. So I also took a break as well, however, I also play casino games like slots, dice or even card games like Black Jack or Baccarat.

So I agree with you, if you bet on sports that you know nothing about, you might end up losing big money. Well the positive side is that you will get that experience, but gonna be a expensive journey just to learn that sports.

I solved this "lack of events" by starting to bet on tennis. More or less there are always matches to follow.
Maybe not always top players but it's absolutely interesting to follow.

I'd gamble with anything but that's also the time to learn some new sports that I am interested in, like I'm not in F1 but I'm still learning about it. And the same goes for other sports that I may like.

It's not just all about having a broad version of what I can bet during breaks. But it's all about being a passionate guy having multiple sports that I know of and it's also for my personal growth.

And if there's nothing interesting at all, anytime can roll the dice, play slots, roulette's, etc, you know the drill.

If the NBA is in season break, I go for the WNBA which is already starting while the Finals is still happening in the NBA.
Then, I also focus on boxing and MMA fights as these are some of the sports that I love while growing up.
Also, there's the Olympics and the FIBA that I am looking forward to watching whenever those sports are on break. It's a good thing that both those events also happen during the NBA break or I think it was made for that purpose so both events won't collide.

There are so many sports that can be watched and bet on. Boxing matches for example are done weekly on weekends and so do MMA so as long as you know something about the game you won't get that rest because the weekdays will be used to analyze what the results could be and that's also to enhance our chance of winning.

If the regular League that you usually place your bet on has gone on a break you can play the virtual of it if you wish to continue gambling. Virtual games are not affected by the leagues and can be played at any time if available. if you wish to continue gambling also you can have a list of games and sports that you bet on so that's when one is on break the other one is active and you can always continue betting.

I have tried betting on other leagues or even on other sports where I knew nothing about the games and which clubs were good. I only used my feelings in guessing, of course it ended badly because I was just guessing without any analysis of the game.

Since then I no longer dare to bet on leagues or other sports matches that I don't know because it's just a waste of money. If the league I like ends then I will wait for the next season. If I want to gamble, I usually play slot machines or table games

When you bet on games that you don't have idea we may end up losing. In such situation the better choice is to go with the lower odds suggested by the platforms. This increase the chance of winning, and lets us have little learning about the game. My personal choice of league is tennis, and I spend only on main events. Sports have a season and there really is no good reason not to like more than 1 sport. Even if you are barely knowledgeable about a certain sport, you put $5 on a game and you instantly become more interested.

I am big on NFL football, NCAA football, NCAA basketball, and NBA basketball. Those 4 sports run basically from Late July til April of the following year. Roughly a 3 month gap where I have to watch a little golf, tennis, or whatever other sport I can find.

There are many categories and alternatives to bet on that go much beyond an exclusive league you are fan. You don't necessarily have to stick with just one sport or even sports betting. There is no doubt that the majority of Asians and North Americans are not football fans. They watch sports such as ice hockey, cricket, basketball, and baseball. If the league that I usually follow is on break for a while I might also take a break and not place any bets because I am only interested in betting on sports, especially football. Only times our league go on break is like international match break if I don't count summer. I actually like to bet on international football. In summer, there are some other leagues, south America etc. Especially Brazil has good coverage so fun to bet on.

as a football bettor and really like football even though the international break is still an alternative to betting on other leagues such as bundesliga 2 or La Liga 2 and I am sure as a football bettor I can definitely move to several other football leagues and I also bet there but when simultaneously there are no matches scheduled I usually bet on casino games like roulette and crazy time just to entertain myself in my free time.

I'm a huge NBA fan and they have like 5 months break after the NBA finals concluded usually around June, then next season would begin in October with the pre-season games and the season officially begins late in October. So, with that 5 months and I don't usually gamble into any other sports, because I don't like betting into something which I don't have a good knowledge to it. What I tend to do before was just bet on some casino games, but not as often as I place bets on NBA games.
I do watch other sports like Football, boxing and MMA, but I don't bet into these sports as much as I do in the NBA. If I remember correctly, I made a bet from these sports before only a handful of time. Gambling to me is a mixture of fun and profit. One can only be entertained by games that give him pleasure. Sports bets is my best gambling games and I have two sports I am familiar with. The leagues of these two sports don't end at the same time so I always have the opportunity of gambling almost all year round. I’m from SEA. Basketball and Esports are the most popular here in terms betting since this  is what commonly being played nationwide by almost everyone here. I usually bet on NBA and Dota2/CS:GO but not to the point that I bet on every single game.

Well, Sport is a seasonal thing.....

My favorite Sports to gamble on are Rugby and Cricket and Volleyball, so the one might be a Winter Sport and the other one might be a Summer Sport, but seasons differ from country to country, so the championships follow the seasons and you might have one championship being hosted locally when it is say Winter and then when that is done, the same Sport is played in a different championship in another country where it is Winter again.  ;D

I will also start betting on other Sports like Boxing or UFC or Tennis in the off season, even though that might not be my favorite Sport to bet on.  ;)

I also have sets of team from different games so i always have reserved when it comes to sportsbetting ,
 even in Boxing and UFC i also have several fighters in which my favorites .

Like yours when Basketball is not available(or my team already dropped) i turn into American Football,
 same as if the AFC/UFC ended I can put my bets in soccer.but those are the days because now that I limits my gambling activities
 I uses only one team at a time and if they did not got to championship then I will stop betting till the season starts again.

When the league I bet is on break I also take a break, my choice of bet is football betting and once European league ends which is usually around May/June till Mid August every season that period is off for me in any form of betting and gambling activities though other leagues in other continents still continues unfortunately I am not familiar with their leagues and their clubs thus I can't rely on analysis obtained online and risk my money, though it's good to research on other type of sport bettings such as basketball, tennis, horse racing etc, however the passion I have for football wouldn't bother or allow me to delve into other type of bettings.

We should indeed bet on matches where we know the players and the strength of the competing teams. because we can analyze strengths and chances of winning. although sometimes there are other factors that make betting results not match the analysis.
I have several favorite sports for betting such as football and boxing. but if everything is on pause, it's usually during a break caused by an international match. we can bet on that agenda. or usually I allocate my capital to slot games.

Don't force yourself to gamble without knowledge that we don't have, let alone betting on leagues that we don't know at all about the strength of the club. To be honest, I know more about football matches than other sports, because I have studied a lot there, especially the big leagues in Europe, so I don't force yourself to try to bet on basketball, let alone cricket.

In such cases I always consult tipping and news sites which also offer a big analysis before claiming that this bet is going to be a winner,they even rate,some of them rate by 1 star low confidence,2 stars average confidence and 3 stars highest confidence.Since I don't know most of these leagues players I rely on this other people information before making a decision to bet or not to bet on a specific event.

Well, in sports betting, I only bet on the NBA league and my country's basketball league. When they are both nearing the end of the season, I choose not to bet at all. It's not that I don't want to bet on other sports; it's just that I don't have the information and knowledge about the other sports teams and players. But so far, the NBA and my country's basketball leagues don't end the same season on the same date, so I still have an option as to which league I can bet on.

Maybe some other time I'll try other sports aside from basketball; I have little information and knowledge. If I have a chance, maybe American football. What I'm curious and want, if ever, is if there's betting for e-sports like League of Legends, CSG, Valorant, and many more. Usually will find alternative sports which I am familiar with but if I don't like to bet on those sports because I don't really enjoy then will just gamble on slot games or plinko since this is I think more fun to participate compare betting on sports which is just your alternative and doesn't give you feel any excitement. Club level football matches, cricket ODIs and T20 matches along with friendly matches with different teams are always my favorite for betting. Sports betting for me are always seasonal. There are tournaments of every sports running throughout the year but I tend to bet only on the one's I'm actively watching. I bet on tennis when there are the 4 grand slams. For football, I bet on almost each of world cups knock out matches. I bet on Premier League, La liga, Serie A, Ligue 1 and German bundesliga when in season but not in there B or C division or other countries league. Though a lot of my friends now follow Saudi and US league, I haven't bet on or actively followed them. I also occasionally bet on cricket, golf and basketball.

The football league doesn't go on break. There's the international league and there is the local league. It is not possible for the two categories to go on a break. So when the EPL, Ligue 1, Bundesliga, La Liga and other leagues are on break, I simply switch to betting on my local league. Football doesn't stop. There are also local leagues in China, India, Poland, Morocco, Ghana, South-Africa and all over. I once tried the NFL and NBA but didn't have a good betting experience. Football comes first.

I like betting on football matches, and I have specific leagues I bet on. If those leagues are on break for international duty, I will not bet on any other sports game because I have tried betting on basketball when my favorite leagues are on break, and I have not won any bets because if I played over in basketball they will play under, and if I played under they will play over. For this reason, I always wait for my favorite leagues to resume their play before I can bet to have a good chance of winning my bets.

If they know a lot about other leagues, they will definitely follow other leagues while waiting for their favorite league to return. This will fill his free time by trying to analyze other leagues and also increase his knowledge even more. He will also have more references that he can use to find more information. But some gamblers don't bet on other leagues because they feel they don't have enough knowledge about other leagues. They tend to choose to rest while waiting for their favorite league to return so they can start looking for information about the next match. But it's better not to bet on leagues we don't know because that will only cause us to lose more often because we don't know anything about the teams in that league.

Their lots of other league if you prefer betting football and if you want to diversify because for me I just play on basketball and some times I just pass my time on some virtual game and that's when am really bored although I always watch my limit when gambling and I dont do it overboard before it gets me regretting because one can be carried away with his gambling activities and before you have exhausted your bank roll in split second.

To be a fine gambler you have to be betting on games you have a rooted knowledge in else you be wasting money with no chance of winning particularly in football betting. That's why I take a break when my favourite leagues have gone for break it is like following the tide, going against it can be costly but with a break you have time to save for when your favourite leagues will resume back. It is in the break's I find time to romanticize with slot games as they are without seasonal breaks

That is it mate, I don't see why one would want to play gambling when the favorites sport games are on break,  I think this is the time when one needs to go on break too in gambling.  Gambling is not a do or  a die affair,  people just need to only play games that they are familiar with and not to force themselves on gambling to make money from it by or means. Despite that gambling is unpredictable people still needs to play bet on sport that they are well familiar with and not to play gambling with a blank knowledge concerning sport. 

It is not a must people must force themselves by all means to make money from gambling,  forcing oneself on gambling can be very easy way of losing money expecially on game not familiar with.

I only gamble on football and am not interested in other sports, maybe just because they are not common in my country. In my country, everyone’s attention is on football, so mostly I gamble on Premier League matches, but whenever the league is on break, I do gamble less, but sometimes I will just want to gamble, so I do decide to gamble on my local league. I do follow the league sometimes, so I do use the experience that I have to gamble when gambling on my local leagues, but it’s not something I do often, I only do it whenever I am bored and I have nothing to gamble, then I will decide to gamble on my local league.

Definitely you are good, but not every gambler would love playing a single game. Even sport players sometimes are good at football and basketball at same time. Meaning that people are rational and can be good in different things. Hence, not every player rest when their league is on break. They still go home to practce with friends or play other sports to keep fit. Gambling is fun and most times when we gamble and stop gambling for months. It'll keep us away from the ideas we've got in gambling steadily. Not saying we shouldn't take a rest. But, taking it for so long till the league is right back. Can affect our gambling techniques. Since, the part of our brain that helps our critical thinking in making the right gambling decision would be weak and won't function like when it's practicing often. Seems like there's many people that feel the need to gamble frequently, which is no surprise really. As a past time, gambling is something many people do every day, and I guess this type of gambler wouldn't give it up so easily even if their league was in break.

The gambler will choose the multiple league at the same time,because the gambler know every league will end on one day.So the gambler should ready to bet on the next league when the old was end.As we know the World Cup was going to end on Sunday,the gambler should prepare to conqer the next league after sunday.Because the active gambler only can earn more money from the gambling sites as compared to the gambler only do the particular league for every year,it's like the gambler only bet on the Saudi Arabia League and stop the sports bet after the end of the Saudi Arabia league in the gambling site.The experienced gambler will do the gambling of sports bet with use the same football knowledge to the other game.After the Saudi Arabia league get into the European league with same football knowledge.

For a gambler to bet on a league, he must have full knowledge of that league and also know the performance rate of each team in that league in other to be able to make good predictions. So it's not wise to bet on that the gambler have little knowledge of because he'll unlikely win in such league.

I personally made that bet, just to add to the sensation and adrenaline when I watched my idol club. And of the various types of sports that OP mentioned, I prefer football. Aside from NBA and Football then i do have interest on Esports too on which if a certain team or player isnt present or really have those accident or issues then i do tend to skip on such betting.

I like betting, but I only bet on certain types of sports. And the sport that I quite like is football, but I also only bet when my favorite team plays. I don't force myself to bet when leagues are on break but I think it's very common for players to at most has a 1 month break, the only time they rest from league is when they are injure, if they are not playing for the League, they should be playing national games. You can also switch to other like cricket and basketball, that's what many of bettors do and it's more easy to make money on basketball than football according to some analyst which I tried and comfirmed but as of recently, things are not really going well in that games. Well to a point while reading and are reading this thread,  I have come to realize that,  even though when your favourite leagues are on break,  you also as a gambler should take the time off to have some rest off gambling too,  this way you come back more refreshed to face the New season because doing so will increase your chances of making the right game's decision at some point in time and also help you to lose the hold of addictions in any manner that penetrated your while gambling all through the season.

As much as I want to bet, I am also taking a break when the sports I am into, is at the break. One reason is to avoid greed; engaging to different sports just for the sake of making a bet is greed in my opinion. I’d rather not get any profit on off season than to lose huge amount of money with frustrated bets. Here in South America football is king when comes to sports and sportbetting, most of people I have met who bet on sports only bet when some important cup is being disputed, obviously the period with the most activity is when our national team plays and when there is a world cup ongoing, that is also my case. Yes, being greedy and impatient is the first step to addiction. You shouldn't gamble and bet on something you don't like and force yourself too hard. In the end it won't have a good impact, let alone profit, even though we know that there are many other hobbies that we can do. for example, a more positive activity just to rest the urge to gamble while the league is on break.

That's the part I do not completely understand, I mean if you are forcing yourself to gamble, then why are you even gambling? It suppose to be fun entertainment thing and nothing more. I do not get people who are chasing losses for example, you are not having fun and you are just trying to get that money back, but what was the initial thought process that you had which resulted with you trying to guess what you would end up with?

I mean it's gambling, of course the bigger chance is that you would end up with a loss, that was already known, why are you so shocked that you lost your money and chase it? I mostly bet on football specifically European club football. I despise international breaks and I don’t really like betting on them. By far I prefer club football.

When there is potential money to be made though, I will delve into international football but it’s nowhere near as enjoyable as regular European club football.

Usually there will be many friendlly games when the EU major leagues are on the break (soccer), and Asian major leagues usually still playing between June and August.

Soccer bet is the favourite for most bettor and other games are optional. So I can't remember if there is a time there is not soccer game to bet on even if the choicest league is on break. There are different leagues from LA Liga, premiership, Seria A,  Turkish league , bundesliga , America etc. All countries I believe have their leads so in absense of the favourite leagues you have other leagues that you can bet on. What could be the case is that you won't bet regularly until the favourite league resumes. That is the strategy that bettors I know too that have favourite league adopts.

When your league is in break, I think it is also a time for a fans and gamblers out there to have a break too. I don't think if it's fine to some but for me, If my league is in break, then I will let myself to have a financial break in betting /gambling and will focus myself to other important things. But sometimes, I still gamble on other games because it's just to fill my free time while waiting for my league to start its new session. And I do agree that we should also play and bet on sports that we are familiar, we can copy other bet, but I don't think that it is going to be healthy in the long run as for me, we should do other own analysis in any of the sports that we are going to bet.

When the NFL season is over my gambling significantly declines as NFL football is my bread and butter when it comes to sports gambling.
