Title: How Often Do You Check Your Seed Phrase.
Post by: GiftedMAN on November 22, 2023, 04:31:25 PM
I understand that several thread has been created concerning the importance of keeping our seed phrase save but the question now is this, how often do you check your seed phrase?. My personal experience on why I think you should always check your seed phrase to ensure that it is in a good condition: recently I relocated to another place, when I was moving my things it never occurred to me that I had mistakenly removed my seed phrase from where it was kept not until I had spent more than five months before something struck my mind to check where my seed phrase was written but I couldn't find it there. I was lucky to have kept a duplicate of it somewhere else not just in my house else I would have  ended up losing my funds to some people who understands what seed phrase is all about.

Lessons( 1) Do not keep your seed phrase in a particular place (2) Always check your seed phrase to be sure it is intact (3) Be sure you alone have access where your seed phrase is kept.

Conclusion: Knowing too well that keeping the seed phrase and other account related information of a user private are some ways to ensure adequate security, I think we need to do a constant check on our seed phrase so that we don't end up losing it.

I stand to be corrected if there are things that were not listed as this thread is based on personal encounter and observation.

I rarely check my seed phrase because it’s located on a secret location which I don’t want to be exposed by checking it frequently. The last time I check it is when I change hardware wallet.

I understand that we should always make sure that it’s safe but I really don’t like the idea of checking it regularly because that’s a weak spot of your holdings since anyone who will hold that will have an easy access to your wallet no matter what happened. So I always just make sure that my hardware wallet is well maintained and have 2 location of seed phrase that is store on a titanium plate. This way, I don’t have to worry about physical damage that’s why I don’t check it anymore.

I normalize checking my seed phrase every three months in the different locations I have them stored this because I don't want to take chances, people notion about the regular check of our seed phrase may differ and this could be base on where they are stored and how impenetrable. If not for anything, a seed phrase should be stored in a position where only you alone have access into that a strange entity can't access without your consent, and for printed seeds on paper it should be done with an immutable ink hat wouldn't fade off with time.

Our seed phrase is same as our bank account PIN number for transactions and it is what verified you as a real owner of a certain fund that's why the famous  phrase " not your keys not your funds".

I don't regularly check my seed phrase because I know I have several duplicates and so I don't think there's any needs to keep checking, except for your experience or maybe something happened within ones environment could be flood attack, house burning or any other fire incident that may occurred within oneself. Sometimes regularly checking our private keys or seed phrase might lead to some potential harm where we could get carried and exposed it to our friends or relatives whom we don't want them to know about our privacies, in Normal circumstances before relocation from your previous places what you should go after is your documents this includes your seed phrase since it can be stored where other documents are being kept. From what you said it's important to check while relocating to a newer apartments to ensure all details are intacts.

Your idea of keeping it on a secret location  is cool since it is not meant to be seen by someone else but I think it's not bad if you go check it out once in awhile to be sure it is still in order, seeing that you have changed your hardware wallet proved that you understood what I meant by seeing if it's in order. If we don't confirm if it's in order how do we know when something has gone wrong or when it's missing? We don't always pray for unforseen circumstances but things do happen and having a proper check can help us to dictate when it has been tampered by someone else.

Thanks for sharing your personal experience on why it is important to check our seed phrase on regulaly basis or on monthly basis. Your story telling us that to be careful in protecting your seed phrases. It is really important to have more than one copy of the seed phrase and safe them in different safe places. We should also check that we have still access and use the seed phrase regularly. Your advice to not keep the seed phrase in one place is really good. By regularly checking our seed phrases we can reduce the risk of losing our money. I mostly safe the seed phrase on one place but by reading this story I have decided to safe my seed phrase in different places because being a human I can forget and can make any mistake like you have done.

My seed phrase is one of my topmost secret, though for some time now, I've tried to see if I can let it stick in my head, but it hasn't been an easy task. Five months was too long for you to have stayed without checking, at least once in two weeks, should be the Time frame, this is your investment, so a regular check on it should be prioritise. I also think if you have a trusted partner, maybe your wife or your spouse, you can as well let them know, in case of any eventuality.

Sincerely, i do not remember that last time i got to check my seed phrase, let alone bother to think of where i stored them.  One thing i have come to understand is that, it is not every person that claims to be a cryptocurrency investor or holder that even bother to check the seed phrases. some of the friends i have had the opportunity of discussing the subject of crypto currency with will conclude that they do infact use crypto currency brokers to invest or maintain a DCA strategy for a given period, rather than be bothered about keeping it safe on their own.

Although, i can not stress how important it is to keep abreast with key phases and passwords by checking often mostly as often as one gets to invest, because even the wallets or exchanges will have a reason to want to upgrade their systems or refresh and hence customers who may sometimes not see such notifications may be at the mercy of losing their coins because they failed to stay updated with the ever innovative blockchain network and exchanges wallets.

I don't often do it, but a few times when I travel or visit places where I keep my backup, I often check if it's still there. I do have one of them very close to me, though, which I check or come across almost every time I'm trying to access my important documents.

I was lucky to have kept a duplicate of it somewhere else not just in my house else I would have  ended up losing my funds to some people who understands what seed phrase is all about.

And I hope you will make good use of that luck and opportunity given to you very well, like discovering the place you saved the second phrase, or will I say the backup you kept is not entirely your saviour? If you are convinced that the first one that you lost access to due to relocation is not entirely destroyed, it's advisable for you to move out of the fund to a newer address. If you have not already done that, this is the only time you can consider yourself completely safe. You never know when someone will come across it or if your old compound will be my next apartment.

I didn't check my seed phrase mostly because I need them when I put them in a new wallet or I need them when I buy a new mobile phone so I export it in them and use my wallet there.

But I have a bad habit whenever I made a new wallet then I send my seed phrases through my WhatsApp  which I sometimes forgot to save it to myself which is my bad habit. Because recently I was a phrase which I need then O forgot to get it and that was almost keep me in danger even there were my fund though which I have kept for doing the Airdrops from the wallet. Although I prefer the users not to forgot their seed phrase to save it even in a safe place where they would always remember if they want to import their wallet to any other place.

Mate I can't believe you actually tried to store your seed phrase in your head that's a dangerous thing to do because you can easily forget the words that comes first before the next line. If you got no option on how to keep it safe, I suggest you write it out in Metal I believe it's going to be safe, but ensure it is not kept where one around you has access to because they can easily discover what it is by simply asking questions. Feel free to duplicate it if possible instead of having it all in your brain that's crazy thing to do you know.

I hope that you have not kept the wallet phrase in a place that someone else might later have access to.

As for me, I have already had enough ugly experience in terms of lost funds, so I don't joke with my wallet phrase. Once in a while, I usually go over the location where I keep my wallet to check if it's still intact, and the reason why I do check ones in a while is because I know that it's very safe where it's kept, and visiting it more regularly might even create the suspicion that very important stuff is kept there. Like you said, @OP, it's very wise for one to check their wallet phrase because there are also some external facts that can destroy the phrase, depending on the location where it's being kept. Some natural disasters, too, can affect the location where you hide your wallet.

I rarely check it but it is always just written on scratch paper which I slipped inside an old machine shop book. No one is going to be interested to read it. I don't think anyone will ever be interested in checking those piles of books. But I do have a soft copy on my laptop hidden in a hidden folder and on my secret flash drive too. Redundancy is good.

The last time I checked that seed was when I forgot my password to send coins. I have to import again and set a new sending password and that was I think 2 years ago.

thank you for sharing you experience it is helpful for users who are getting started with bitcoin.
and make sure you relocated you coins to a new wallet, anytime your wallet can get accessed by someone because you don't know where your seed phrase is.

Not too often, for example not once in this year so that is how often I check them but I am sure that its in a safe place so no need to keep checking often as it should be apart from the primary wallet, I do have multiple seeds which are stored in airgapped device which I used to check once in a while and also once in a while their physical copies.

Yes thats risky.
You would think that 12 words in sequence would be easily memorised and called upon instantly.

I think to perfect this a daily routine would have to be followed, its possible but with very strict
dedication to the task.

As for checking the seed phrase, I never "check" it because its on a Stainless Steel plate, nothing
is going to happen it, nobody will find it, no water or fire will damage it, no corrosion either.

I do from time to time I remind myself where it is hidden, actually every time I access my hardware
wallet I visualise those words stamped into the SS plate!

I could understand checking that other forms of seed phrase storage might be checked from time
to time, it all depends on how they are stored, on what medium paper, memory stick

Lessons( 1) Do not keep your seed phrase in a particular place

I'm not sure if I agree with this one, and it's a bit odd conclusion to make after what happened to you.
By frequently changing the place where you store your seed phrase(s) you're actually compromising security and definitely increasing the risk of something going wrong, i.e. you simply forgetting what's the latest place you put it in. Over-relying on own memory is a common mistake.

You just got a bit careless when moving places. This happens, but doesn't mean you have to change your approach on everything by 180 degrees.

Your story is similar to my own story, I did the same thing when I relocated to another area and I totally forgot that I had seed phrase in that room but what made me not to even have a second thought about it is that I have my wallet intact in another phone but the day the phone refuse to on again was my darkest day, I can't access the wallet and my small amount of bitcoin. I am still holding the phone hoping one day, I will have access to it.

About the seed phrase, to avoid this kind of problem, it's always advisable to share your seed phrase in different location atleast, 2 diffirrent location so that the day you want to access the wallet and it is not available, the other location will be oh help.

Exactly, seed phrase is a very sensitive character that must be carefully back up and kept in a secured location, not even in the room because any of your friends can come to your place and if they find out about it, they can either snap it and move your bitcoin or take it completely from you and then you begin to ask how it was possible for your bitcoin to be stolen despite doing the necessary things.

I always check the seed phrase periodically, maybe if I'm not mistaken, once every 2-4 months (when I remember) because the main store at home is in a confidential place so I always check it to make sure that our seed phrase is safe and not forgotten, I also don't store it in one place, there are three different locations that store the seed phrase, all of which I myself know to maintain confidentiality so that no one knows about it.

Because human nature is forgetful, it is very important to check regularly because when we forget or want to move house, people often forget this precious little bencil so before the incident experienced by the OP, even though there is another place as a backup, we still have to pay attention to this regularly because it's okay if you do that.

I don't know maybe other people check the seed phrase for quite a long time even up to years because they feel they have safely stored it, but for myself to keep checking once every 1 month for example is actually good.

This is a very good update @ O.P on you elaborating about the importance of constantly checking our wallet seed phrase, because if only you never had duplicated yours that how you would have ended up losing all your coins, and this should be a strong lessons to each and every one of us here on this forum if we never want to encounter such incident. So on that note, I was able to make a rough sketch trying to explain on the good and bad ways of storing our seed phrase, so that if mistakenly it happens to get into the hand of a third party, they won't be able to know they are holding a seed phrase of a bitcoin wallet.

https://talkimg.com/images/2023/11/22/F8Ddg.jpeg
This first image explains that while storing a wallet seed phrase, it's more advisable you do not write on the heading the word "Wallet Seed phrase" or the name of the wallet, but instead leave it blank, so that who ever happens to come across it will never know it is a wallet seed phrase, but if he/she is smart enough to know it's a seed phrase, he will not know which wallet it belongs to. (i.e Bluewallet, electrum Trust e.t.c). While secondly the words can be written either ascending or descending order, so that whoever finally figures out the wallet, will not know which order is the right order of words but only you alone.

https://talkimg.com/images/2023/11/22/F8OFI.jpeg
This second image also explains just like the first about how it's advisable to not also write on the heading the word "Wallet Seed phrase" or the name of the wallet, while the words can be written either vertically on ascending/descending order or in a diagonal form.

Firstly I would advice you actually change wallet since you can’t find the other back up to seed phrase to avoid any chances of lost. It is better to check your seed phrase back up even it shouldn’t be regularly most especially if it is on paper. For more security reasons i would recommend a steel washer to avoid damage of the paper.

One other back up we do not pay too much attention to is the addition of passphrase to our seed phrase. Passphrase are easier to remember although highly not recommended but once you back it up somewhere even if the seed phrase gets compromised the pass phrase will be another layer of security

I think its a good idea to occasionally check on the seed phrase to see if it's there and intact, especially in homes where there are many children. Though, I don't do this because I've mine stored in a very secured location out of reach of anyone. Also, I've duplicate in multiple locations.

I was lucky to have kept a duplicate of it somewhere else not just in my house else I would have  ended up losing my funds to some people who understands what seed phrase is all about.
If you had not seen your seed phrase, I don't think you'd have lost your funds since you still have your phone or laptop where the fund is stored. You'd have simply created a new wallet, backed it up and send the funds there.

Checking your seed phrase from time to time is very important irrespective of where you save them.

In your own case that you duplicated your seed phrase, I think it is a good idea to duplicate it, but saving them in the same place is not advisable. To ensure adequate security, if you duplicated your seed phrase, ensure you save them in different location so that you will minimize the risk of losing them all due to relocation you just mentioned, and natural disasters like earth quake, fire out brake and flood.

Since wallet seed phrase is not like wallet address that I have being using multiple time,  I don't check it at any interval but also I always know that my seed phrase are safe and securely kept so there be no need for me to keep checking it all the time.

The most important thing to do is to make sure that your seed phrase are properly stored and also for such once you achieve that,  you can go ahead and be at peace all the time even though you may not necessarily be checking on the seed phrase unless you want to use the seed phrase to restore/recover your wallet on new device.

Thank you for this advice, the seed phrases are very important in keeping self-custody assets, losing or allowing unscrupulous elements to have access to them is very dangerous. But I must confess that I am guilty of number 1 and I hope I can "turn a new leaf" before it's too late. Having it in at least two locations can't hurt, so I see no reason why I can't duplicate it.

But for 2, I don't stress myself and I won't either, duplicating or even triplicating it should have done the work. While for the 3, the way I coded it is enough for anyone seeing it not to have any use for it.

I don't check my seed phrase often because where I kept them is somewhere safe which I believe that no one will get at reach. The only time I do see my seed phrase is when I phone screen got blank and I needed to have access to my coins. I had to import my seed phrase to the second phone that I was using. I feel that it is not really that necessary to keep checking on it when it is in a safe place because you might expose the place unknown to you. Just make sure that you have enough back up so that it wouldn't be a problem.

It may sound strange, but never. Literally for the last 5 years I haven't touched my backups or my seeds. The only thing I check from time to time is the address in blockchain, to make sure there were no transactions and my money is still where it should be. There's no way there could be a transaction, but I check it maybe twice a year.

So, I have a backup + seed locked safely in a fireproof security safe and also another backup in the form of electrum wallet file on an airgapped PC that I can connect fast if I ever need to move my coins. I haven't even powered up the PC in 2 years, but it was bought brand new and the hard drive is a brand and model known for durability, so I'm not worried about that. If I ever need to relocate, I'll move the whole safe, so there's no need to check if the seed is there.

I rarely check my seed phrase because it’s located on a secret location which I don’t want to be exposed by checking it frequently. The last time I check it is when I change hardware wallet.

Just pushed to ask you Giftedman this question even though I have stylishely cover that part in the earlier comment on what the need is to keep checking your wallet seed at regular internal even though you have no need for it?

Alot have to be made secret about wallet see phrase and keeping it where is safe and secured and out of regular reach is the best approach to it so for me,  there is no need to keep constant check on your seed phrase unless you have need for it,  but anything other than that,  I see it as needless.

The same actually as long as I have a hardware wallet to store bitcoins not too often reach the seed phrase maybe occasionally but it is very rare, just like that but I more often check from the secure bitcoin wallet address whether there are no transactions of any kind, when there is no change then I consider it no problem.

Maybe you store in the most secure place in the safe, I don't do that but what I do to store the seed phrase is quite more secure in my version, I even back up 4 copies in different places to make sure all copies are safe and no one touches it.

I don't even have a dedicated PC like you, no storing on a hard drive, the important thing is that the copies are safe.

I understand that several thread has been created concerning the importance of keeping our seed phrase save but the question now is this, how often do you check your seed phrase?
Checking the wallet seed phrase after securely storing it is a good idea cause it helps to know the condition of the seed phrase but checking more often is not a good idea since you need to follow the step that will not expose the seed phrase and if checking often there's a chance for human error wish will expose the seed phrase.

recently I relocated to another place, when I was moving my things it never occurred to me that I had mistakenly removed my seed phrase from where it was kept not until I had spent more than five months before something struck my mind to check where my seed phrase was written but I couldn't find it there. I was lucky to have kept a duplicate of it somewhere else not just in my house else I would have  ended up losing my funds to some people who understands what seed phrase is all about.
However, you still end up losing the fund either if you don't move the coin to a fresh wallet. The lost seed phrase may fall into the wrong hands

The point in this your story isn't about checking your seed phrase regularly, it should be about you reviewing your opsec, let's say you store millions in cash in your home, if you are relocating, it would be among the first things you make provisions on how to move, that should be how you treat your seed phrase when you are relocating. You cannot forget or mistakenly move it without knowing its present location, what if you left it in your previous home and someone swept your funds.

Take note that your seed phrase is already compromised, and your funds should be swept out of that wallet completely, you don't know who is going to get their hands on your 'lost' seed phrase, so move it into a fresh wallet.

Back in the day when I frequently checked my seedphrase/private key  I accidentally changed a character unknowingly and when I tried to access my wallet I lost control of the wallet just like that..and ever since ,all I do is create wallet, back it up and try get into my account and if all goes smooth it's never again checking on the seedphrase to avoid messing up what I have.

Lessons( 1) Do not keep your seed phrase in a particular place (2) Always check your seed phrase to be sure it is intact (3) Be sure you alone have access where your seed phrase is kept.
If your seed phrase is documented on paper or any other surface, and kept in a place like a file or safe along with other important personal documents of your choice, it will be wise to occasionally check where these documents are stored so that you will be able to know and detect if someone careless tried to tamper with it.

If you do not occasionally check, you will never know.

I don’t think it’s necessary to check where you keep your seed phrase everyday. That’s paranoia. I only go to where I store my seed phrase is when I want to import my wallet into a new device. It’s a good thing you have another copy of your seed phrase stored elsewhere, now that you have access to the wallet, I suggest you move your coins to a new wallet as your seed phrase may already be compromised.

I understand that several thread has been created concerning the importance of keeping our seed phrase save but the question now is this, how often do you check your seed phrase?

I understand the temptation to frequently check one's seed phrase, given the warnings about keeping it secure.  However, in my view, constantly verifying it is often unnecessary.  If you are confident in your initial storage methods and there have been no changes to make you doubt that security revisiting the phrase frequently seems excessive.

Personally, I stored my phrase very carefully when I first created it.  Unless I have a specific reason to question whether it has been compromised, I dont feel the need to keep inspecting it.  Sure, checking it occasionally as a precaution is reasonable.  but doing so too often crosses over into paranoia in my opinion.

I am sure we all want to protect our assets.  But there is such a thing as going overboard.

Wherever the keys to someone's fortune are kept, that's where he or she should be conscious of at any given time. Since the seed phrase is the key to our crypto assets, it is advice to always have a duplicate of it on a piece of paper in different places to avoid the incident of losing it as a result of your own kinda experience.

As for me, where my seed phrase is kept, I have normalized to check on it, once every week to know how intact my crypto funds are. I can't leave checking on it on weeks intervals with the mindset of, it is secured all the time when I know that my siblings can rearrange the house at any time when I am not around.

Its been months now since I have checked my seed phrase, although I am sure about where I kept it but I will have to check it again.
However, since I write down my seed phrase and keep it in a safe, I haven't changed the position where I kept it, as this discussion have remind me of it, I will try to check it out first thing in the morning tomorrow as it is already late over here.

I understand that several thread has been created concerning the importance of keeping our seed phrase save but the question now is this, how often do you check your seed phrase?. My personal experience on why I think you should always check your seed phrase to ensure that it is in a good condition:
Seriously, whenever it comes to my mind, I do decide to check where I store them. You are supposed to be checking your private key often, you can’t just secure your private key and you will decide to abandon it at the place. We all know anything can happen at any time, so once in a while, it won’t be bad if you just decide to check your private key. For some people that do decide to write their private key on paper, we all know that’s not the appropriate place to write our private key. Paper can easily be damaged by either water or fire, and it can be damaged by other things, so if your private key is on paper, it’s better you check it often.

Seriously, I will say paper is not the appropriate place to write your private key. If you will be storing your private key, it’s better to carve it on iron steel. I think it’s better because it can’t be damaged by either water or fire. In case there is a fire or water accident, your private key will still be safe.

Lessons( 1) Do not keep your seed phrase in a particular place
It’s better to store your private key in different places in case anything happens and you lose access to one of them, then you are going to have backup, but if you write and store your private key at just a single place, in case if you lose that, then just know that all your funds are gone already, so I do recommend storing your private key in different places, but make sure it’s places that nobody will be having access to.

I check from time to time the state of my seed words and I have a backup as well that I do not check as often but that is still in good condition, however it would not surprise me if there were a lot of people that thought their seed words were safe and they were just one mistake away from losing all their stash for good, however this is a difficult risk to counter as it is not as if we can check the status of our seed words every day, since such a thing will be very impractical.

I understand that several thread has been created concerning the importance of keeping our seed phrase save but the question now is this, how often do you check your seed phrase?. My personal experience on why I think you should always check your seed phrase to ensure that it is in a good condition:
Yes, it is necessary to periodically verify that seed phrases remain available in the location where you stored them. It is possible for a seed phrase to be tempted no matter where it is kept, especially in the event of a natural disaster or other event. For this reason, we shouldn't give up on our seed phrases without periodically checking on them to make sure they are doing well.

Lessons( 1) Do not keep your seed phrase in a particular place
Since anything can happen, it is not a good idea to keep your seed phrase in one specific location. Instead, it is best to store your seed phrase in at least three different places for greater financial security. This way, in the unlikely event that someone loses access to the seed phrase in one location, there will always be a backup. Therefore, we must maintain our seed phrase in several, well-hidden places for optimal security.

My seed phrase is one of my topmost secret, though for some time now, I've tried to see if I can let it stick in my head, but it hasn't been an easy task.

Well ordinarily the brain is meant for storage,  I have it written down somewhere safe, but I've still tried to let it stick in my head.
So I usually check within two weeks or a week interval depending on how busy my schedule are for the month, over time even without me being at home where I have it written down, I could easily check with my mobile phone.

Being a human everyone can forget my dear friend. Don't think that if you have stuck it in you mind. But you can also forget it.
This is a good thing that you check it regularly. After 2 or 3 weeks or in a month. Just because of this you keep this un mind. If accidently you forgot to recheck or you put it anywhere else like the OP done so there is the possibility that you can forget that. So you should safe the seed phrase at two different places this will be good. You can recheck one place time by time if you forget accidentally so you can check the different place you there you will get it back.
OP has shared his experience which is good and we should get a lesson from this. Thanks for sharing.

All of the above points from OP sound good in theory than in reality. Seriously how can you be checking your keyphrase everytime when you are supposed to keep it in a safe and secure place?
This does not sound like a good idea in my opinion because checking it every minute and checking it monthly will not give you an indication that it has been compromise assuming someone else has been able to get access.
In all honesty, I don't think there is a particular way to care for keyphrase other than do what you deemed secure enough. Different people with different ways of storing things secretly without letting anyone know about it.

I think writing your seed phrase on a sheet of paper is risky. Instead, get a note book or as diary and write them on it and keep somewhere you can easily access.
If you his it somewhere, chances are that you might even forget where you kept it.

And like you said, it is safer to have more than one copies, just in case.

To be really honest, after I copied out my seed phrase, I haven't checked it again and although I leot it in a very secured location, I have relocated fr my initial place of residence to a new place without taking it along with me. It was the day after I arrived at my location that I even noticed I did not take it along with me. Sometimes little things like this could leed us into trouble. The funny thing is that I kept it in the midst of my other document that my kid sis have access to, my fear is that they might just open the document one day and since I jur wrote it down on a piece of paper, they might mishandle it because they did not know it value. Once I travel back, I will look for a better way of saving it.

Isn't storing it in too many locations counterproductive? The more copies you have in different locations the more difficult it is to monitor all of them and the more probable it becomes that one of them will fall into the wrong hands and you won't even know about it.

I've always approached it this way and in my eyes 2 copies is more than enough, since you also have an active wallet installed somewhere that already has the seed entered. So, you'd need to lose access to the wallet, then lose the main seed and the backup seed. What's the chance of that happening?

Many people have only 1 seed engraved on a metal plate or stamped on it using one of those kits available on amazon. It can't be burned or flooded, so the only thing you have to worry about is someone stealing it, but in such case you always have the main wallet that you can use to move coins before the thief makes use of your seed.

This second image also explains just like the first about how it's advisable to not also write on the heading the word "Wallet Seed phrase" or the name of the wallet, while the words can be written either vertically on ascending/descending order or in a diagonal form.

I find this second image very helpful than the first one especially when writing it on paper file, it really looks confusing on figuring out either to count it horizontally or vertically.

I keep it to my person as much as possible, or if in any case, I make sure to keep it in a place where I know I wouldn't lose it, for example, keeping a safety deposit box that contains your cold wallet and the seed phrase that opens it/private key is one of the best ways to keep your wallet safe, since for the most part, it keeps both your key and your wallet in a single place so there's no chance for you to actually lose it or something, and furthermore, when you move out, there's no way you'd leave your whole net worth out so of course you're going to carry it with you on important situations.

Many people has loss a lot of money because, they failed to write down their seeds phrase which are very important to anyone that is using wallets because your wallet carry seed phrase which are your personal details you can use to have access to your money at any time. Don't save your seeds phrase in your phone because, your phone can be misplaced but it will be easy for you to recover your money with the help of the seeds phrase if they are in safe place

I always check my seed phrase once in a month to know if someone know where they are or to move them alway from children or bad friends, because once someone have access to your seeds phrase your coins is gone because the person will like to sell everything at the moment.

Whenever I participate in the discussion about securing wallet seed phrases, I have mentioned everywhere that we need to secure our seed phrases in multiple safe places. We may lose or destroy one somehow. For me, I don't often check since I wrote my seed phrase in a hard notebook. I just make sure the notebook is safe. But when something important needs to move a large amount, then I again make sure either my seed phrase is fine or not. On the other hand, I have been using a hardware wallet, so I do not always need to check the seed phrase. But I check it accordingly when I need it.

Sorry for your lost funds, but i am afraid that you are going to probably lose your funds again if you don't change your method of backing up your seed phrase. You should not back up your seed phrase electronically in your email, or write it in your notepad, it is trivial for an attacker to steal your funds if your email is compromised, or for you to suffer a physical attack if anyone can get your phone and access your note pad.

Write your seed phrase down on paper, or engrave it on a steel; make multiple backup's of this in different locations, this is the most recommended method of backing up your seed phrase.

Didnt really come into a point on which i would really be buying some hardware wallet for me to store up the coins that i do have on which having a flash drive with some password in it would suffice or something that would really be enough on which im placing the other 1 in my own belt bag, the other one is on safe keep in my own room and the other one is on the rooftop. Im the ones who are really that wary about on where those
flashdrives been located and just like as mentioned on which im really that too active when it comes on checking it out those sticks whether they are intact or havent lost yet. Im doing my best that it would really be
that out of reach or be that easily be noticed by someone because we know that once those things exposed then its over. I do rather sticking up with this kind of storage
rather than making myself minding or trying out cloud storage on which it is really way more risky.

So far so good, im almost 8 years on crypto space but i havent experienced nay hacks or incidents of losing coins due to exposed PK. If it does work
then it would really be just that fine that you would really be doing this or your primary option to take.

I know I have place them in a safe place, so I don't check them that much. But what I do is that I have a practice not to memorized, but to load it in one machine and see if I can restored it in one of my pc's and then uninstall everything. At least I know that my seed phrase is correct.

Because I was not imagining that if I have a lot of bitcoin save on it, and I assumed that everything is right. And then I need to restored it, but worst is that I might have put one word wrong, then everything will be lost. So far my practice works so I know that every word or mnemonic phrase that I have written is spot on and 100%.

Ever since I lost my previous seed phrase and wallet, I learned my lesson the hard way. I began to keep a constant check on my seed phrase so as to be sure they are where they are so that if anything happens again, I can be able to recover it easily. Actually, what happened that made me lose my wallet was a result of my phone crashing one night while online trying to download an app. All of a sudden, my phone went off, and I had not backed up my seed phrase anywhere in the meantime.I had some bitcoin in that wallet, and that was how I lost my bitcoin and wallet that night. Ever since then, what I do first after downloading and installing a new wallet app is to write my phrase or keys so as not to encounter what I had gone through again.

I think this aspect of your topic is not really taken seriously by some account holders. People do not bother checking on their seeds because they are too confident that their keys are where they have kept them for safety purposes. Possibly, if they had shifted from their initial place where they are kept, you would have no idea since you are not constantly checking on them, but if you do check on them, you would be able to detect whenever there are changes in the location of your phrase from the initial place where they are kept. So therefore, it is advisable, in your own best interest, to always backup your keys and save them where only you have access at any given point in time.

All of a sudden, my phone went off, and I had not backed up my seed phrase anywhere in the meantime.

It seems that your problem wasn't not checking on the seed phrase, but not having any backups at all. You can have a backup in the form of wallet file, a private key, or a seed phrase conversion. Any of them will allow you to access the money and you don't really need to check on them. As for having a wallet on your phone and no backup you did at least a couple of "nono's" there.
It's not recommended to use phone as your main wallet without having a computer version anywhere because you carry that phone with you everywhere. The chances of it getting damaged or stolen are high and losing it will mean losing access to your money, even if you have a backup seed. Buying another phone and recovering your wallet can take a while and could give the thief enough time to guess your wallet password if it's weak enough. I'm not even going to start with people who use no passwords thinking that it's safe since they have a fingerprint scanner and are the only ones that use the device.

Checking your seed phrase is very important, regardless of how secured it is in the place you think you keep it. We need to be checking it often to be sure of what we keep in there. There is a saying that says someone who wants your thing will take care of it better than you do, and we know that scammers are very smart, so everything can happen. We also need to be checking the seed phrase even if we hide it in a secure place.

Checking it will make someone not forget where it was kept. The fact that when someone hides something, sometimes they forget where it is because it's been a long time since they checked it, but when you often check, you won’t forget where it was stored.

I’ve never looked at it since I kept it in a location only I know

i’m not the most organized person so i try my best to keep things in place where i last put them
they are also not in any of my devices so it’s not like i have easy access to it anyway i remember where it is
but i just don’t make it a habit to always check if someone sees me taking it out i’ll be in real trouble but this way i think it’s far safer

Actually, what happened that made me lose my wallet was a result of my phone crashing one night while online trying to download an app. All of a sudden, my phone went off, and I had not backed up my seed phrase anywhere in the meantime.

it is not advisable to keep pictures of your seed phrase or take note of it in your note-taking apps
if your phone gets stolen or hacked, you have no way of recovering your seed phrase

write it down on paper or press it into metal and put it in a secure location

I think writing your seed phrase on a sheet of paper is risky. Instead, get a note book or as diary and write them on it and keep somewhere you can easily access.

I guess writing your seed phrase on paper is kind of risky, but I don’t see any difference in writing seed phrase on paper, diary, and book, all is still paper and can be damaged at any moment, so it’s better we look for something better than a book that can’t easily be damaged. I do see people do recommend carving it on steel, which I see as a good idea because metals can’t easily be damaged compared to the book and diary that you just mentioned above.

Keeping your seed phrase in a place that can be easily accessible is the best, why do you have to hide it in a place that can’t be easily accessible? And just as I said, a diary or book is not still the best place to write your seed phrase, and you can write it in different places and hide the seed phrase in different places.

Well, there are numerous ways to store your seed phrase. I think one can cipher it and rather store it online. Don't get me wrong and go storing it raw, but cipher it before doing that. Some people may say it can be cracked but that isn't necessarily true as it depends on the level of cipher-ing you did. Storing it in your home isn't bad as well, but I don't think its that safe though. What if someone finds it? They'll go straight to access the wallet. A lot of things could go wrong too; what if it gets torn from the book you wrote it on? What if your house was flooded, etc? Wouldn't these destroy it?

I understand that several thread has been created concerning the importance of keeping our seed phrase save but the question now is this, how often do you check your seed phrase?.

Seed Phrases are kept to be well backed up and securely stored, so as much as possible I do not have to check my seed phrase regularly since it is stored in a vault and place where fire and water can't penetrate it.  Checking it regularly to see if it is in perfect condition means that the security applied on these seed phrases is worrying, meaning it is not properly secured.

Seed phrase is very important thing, it should be the first one that will come to our mind to secure since it holds our cryptocurrency funds.  The only time when a person forgets about it is when it does not hold any amount.

I don't check it of actually opening it but I can see where I have placed it. As long as it's on my vision, I don't have any problems with it. My house isn't crowded too and it's far from the reach of children and that's why I don't have to check it but it's a good reminder to have it checked maybe a few times in a while because you might not know that the words have already been blurred and the ink of your seed phrase is fading.

Almost never,I always have this though that if I check often I may slip and make some mistake and leave it in the open or someone might see it, once per year maybe.
That's also what I am thinking but as long as I can see it on the specific place where I have kept it, that's better. I have no idea about air, stuff or chemicals that are on the wind that will make it vulnerable to cracking or whatnot depending on the material where you've kept it. But most of us are keeping it in storage and writing it on a piece of paper. That's why the materials shouldn't be exposed to some air, I'm not a science guy but something like that makes the materials weaker if not placed on the right area.

I agree on this and I also do this often. Not only should we regularly check our seed phrases, but we should also always check our hardware wallet weekly so that if something goes wrong, we replace it immediately. I'm using a hardware wallet but I heard they can easily break at any time so I think we should check it regularly and plug the hardware wallet into the computer as a way to maintain its longevity. I don't know if this is true or not, but some people's trezor wallets broke unexpectedly and they thought that providing power by plugging it into the computer periodically would keep the wallet from breaking.

I generally do not try to check my seed phrase as it requires me to load it up somewhere and be connected to the internet. It poses some risks, although I'm certain that my devices are not compromised in any way. I would recommend doing this on hot wallets, but on wallets that are intended to be cold storages, you shouldn't be doing these checks at all because you should have secured everything the first time.

But if you check it once a year, are you sure that the place where you stored your seed phrase is safe? What if you can't access the storage of your seed phrase? There are a lot of possibilities, or maybe I'm mistaken, as your statement lacks information. Maybe what you are saying is that you are using your seed phrase to check your wallet once a year. Then how can you remember your seed phrase, and if you don't memorise it, how did you store it, online or offline? I see there are a lot of questions, as your statement is lacking. Anyway, whether you store it online or offline, as long as you can access it once a year without having a hard time remembering and accessing your wallet, then it is good. Just a reminder, just like others say, better do encryption on your seed phrase; there are a lot of applications or programmes that offer that.

I check the security of my wallet Seedphase occasionally but never open it publicly as the security system of the wallet is very important. Also I turn off my network connection and I open Seedphase of my wallet. But now I have decided that I will write my wallet security seedphase in a document that I will store in a secret place that no one can ever steal.

Why check the benis phrase all the time as we already keep it safe at the start of the wallet and I don't think checking it all the time won't help you with security issues. When you decide to use a particular wallet, there are steps that have been prioritized where the seed phrase is the main thing you will think about, how to store it safely without anyone knowing. We have to make sure it is safe when storing it but that doesn't mean we have to look at it all the time because when you keep checking the seed phrase it means that the deviation you made is not safe.

From the creation of the wallet until now I have only seen my seed phrase three times and the last time I saw it was probably a few months ago. When we are sure to store it in a safe place we may rarely check the seed phrase and at least that is what happened with my seed phrase. My hope is that you have safely stored the seed phrase so that you don't have to check it every day and maybe don't worry too much.

What i always do is secure where it is stored and make backups in case of failure, of a device, your seed will not be changed unless you overwrite it by accident, which is very unfortunate, also the reason why I always not look at the seed, because sometimes when you are opening it and then suddenly it hangs and you click and it's not moving without your idea.

I keep my wallet seed phrase in my mobile and also write it down in notebook form as a document at home as security. I never check it and I know I don't have to.

It's stored extremely safe online ( not the words though, just hints to every word ), then hidden in a book and I also remembered it. So I guess I am on the safe side.

Don't know why someone would need to check it several times. Just have it in a secure place and you can basically forget about it until you actually need it maybe.

Good luck with it, my friend. Relying even partially on memory has its risks. So does saving even part of the seed online. Although in reality everything has risks but I prefer the old school solution.

I don't usually check my seed much, like once or twice a year, although I don't keep it only in one place, like the OP.

I rarely check it unless I really need it, and I feel safe enough with the way I store my seed phrases that I don't feel the need to check it often, and store it in several different places but still only I know where it is stored.
However, I agree that we are the only who have access to the seed phrase storage, unless there is a family we can trust to anticipate when something unexpected happens.
It's possible to avoid things like what you experienced, for example being erased or lost by using material that won't be erased, such as a stainless steel plate to record the seed phrase, which means we have to be willing to spend more for the security of our wallet.

I'm guilty of not following what you have said here. Because I kept my seed phrase to my hidden wallet without duplicate and I rarely check it. Guess i'm to complacent knowing that it is kept in a safe place.

But yes, it's really crucial to check our seed phrase if it is still secure. That's our key to our wallet hence it just right to ensure that it's safe. So much better also to have a duplicate and no one can access because nowadays it's hard to trust.

Despite we need to secure our seed phrase and to put in safe place doesn't mean we should dump it in the safe place and never remember to check on it. Why   it is important to check seed phrase is know if it has been tempered or if the environment where it is kept is okay or not. OP thanks, I think this is a very important update you Brought to our mind. We only remember our seed phrase whenever we need it . Not too often, maybe around once every 30 days, just to ensure that the seed key I have still corresponds to the wallet I intend. Checking the seed key helps me avoid forgetting the location and filename I used to store it. So, performing this check is actually a good practice. However, it's crucial to be cautious so that your seed key isn't exposed in the wrong way. The concern is that it might end up falling into traps like malware or ransomware.

Make sure the device you use for checking is free from all viruses to keep the money stored in your wallet secure.

and also  there are none in my circle of crypto friends that has this attitude , maybe we are too confident of where it was located and safe?

If where you keep one part of your recovery seed is missing and your last option is to go for the second part where you keep the recovery seed then I think you need to move your Bitcoin out of the wallet into a new one, the one you can't find is at risk of been found by someone else, and you claimed that you packed out of the house? I won't feel comfortable that the recovery seed is lost somewhere that I don't know, to be on safer side I will create a new Bitcoin wallet and move all my coin into the new wallet.

You don't know who will luckily found where you write or keep the first recovery seed and if they know what its about they will import into a online wallet and steal all your Bitcoin.

I don’t need to check my seed phrase often. It’s written down someplace safe, dry and kept in a location that’s both very secure and within reach whenever I may have need of it.
I don’t see the need to check on your seed phrase often if you know the location where it’s kept is a secure one and that’s why I don’t feel any urge to go checking on it every now and then.

Well, I guess it wouldn’t hurt to swing by and take a look at where I had kept mine :D.

you mean your seeds stays in your device ? sorry if i misunderstood you but if its correct then maybe you need
to have second thought  of how you are saving it mate.

First  our gadgets are always at risk from hackers and scammers not mentioning that we are near Pumping and
with that much amount of target for sure hackers will stay here and there.

creating new wallet from mate isn't that also safe because meaning you are willing to lose each time the old one
so you are ready for new creation.
Not sure if that is a good Idea but we must be protecting our wallet/seed all the time and creating new isn't
the answer for this .

Made sense. Why would you put a very important piece of paper somewhere in your house where it's easier to be removed. It's always going to be safe to be stored in a drawer where it sits right there the whole time without being bothered of it being moved in a different place. However, in the OP's case, he mentioned that he had recently moved to another place, well I guess that's not gonna be hard as well though as long as you haven't touched anything in the drawer and of course it stays locked. And I'm talking about a large drawers so it can be easier to find when you're stacking some stuff when you move from one place to another.

I agree to always duplicate the seed phrase somewhere or in some manual written storage method that I do. Then as a routine, sometimes it's done 3x a day or once a week and even then just looking at the balance in Explore Total Send is still 0, meaning my bitcoins are safe and no one has taken them. Maybe while holding Bitcoin that's all I do apart from checking the seed phrase. A simple method that is definitely different for everyone. As long as the duplicate key is available, we just need to make sure it is in a safe place.

You keep a screenshot of your seed phrase in your gallery, i don't care how many passwords it would take to get to to your gallery, it is trivial for your seed phrase to be compromised in this way, there is a reason why good wallet softwares don't allow you to screenshot your seed phrase, because it is a stupid thing to do. Back up your seed phrase on paper and keep it in more than one location, you cannot keep your seed phrase in your gallery in a mobile device that goes almost everywhere with you, it is only a matter of time before your screw up.

Honestly, I only checked it when I remembered and probably it was a mistake as it led me to forget where I wrote.
This is why I have a list of things that need to be checked quarterly, I think that was good enough because since it was not saved on my computer, I'm really confident that nobody see it. In fact, it was totally safe rather than storing it on computers and our phones. What I just worry about is when an emergency comes since nobody knows where I keep them.

I don't check my seed phrases constantly but I look at my funds once a week. I think the more I look at my funds the more risky it can be because many times if I check it in front of friends and relatives they will definitely see it. And when they see my private parts they are bound to have some lustful action which may cause me harm. That's why I don't want anyone else to know my personal secrets and it's best to check my saved phrases after a long time so that no one can know and suspect them. I go in there once a week and check all the phrases that I have in my wallet, and I think it's best to check after a long time and it will be safe.

I know it should be checked time to time to ensure it's safe and sound, but I am confident that where I kept it is safe enough. That's the reason for me not to check it.
The same thing I hardly remember the only thing that concerns me is the safety of the seed phase and I am keeping it safe because to me that is what matters the most., I am sure everybody knows where the seed phrase is kept and any time I want to use it I know where to get it from checking it frequently is not a thing, and I think some people care to always check it because of their careless nature so they want to be sure if it is still were you left it. since we all have our individual differences, and we know what we are capable of doing so the frequent checks are important. because if you should mistakenly lose your seed phrase then you funds are gone and their is absolutely nothing you can do to get them back.

Checking your recovery seed frequently can make you exposed your secret location to someone else, it makes sense only if you are living alone, if you are not living alone its a bad idea.

If you are living in a country where natural disasters don't always occur I don't see reasons to be very alert about the safety of your recovery seed, just make sure you keep it offline in a safe location and only to yourself, I don't always look back checking on my recovery seed like this, I don't see any reason why I will want to do so.

I still write my recovery seed in my old book and keep it far away from where fire can break out and got destroyed, in a whole year I think it's not even up to four times that I can set my eyes on my recovery seed again.

Being careful is what we should do, but if you always suspect that your friends and relatives will do bad things to you, then you are overly suspicious. I mean you don't have to show them your bitcoins but you also don't have to be suspicious of them all the time. That will only make the feelings between you become even more distant, especially with your loved ones. In terms of checking bitcoin and seed phrases, I'm probably like you, I check every weekend or beginning of the week to make sure I'm still in good control of everything.

Aside from that, why would he dare to check his balance or the seed phrase in front of his friends and relatives? Information such as the amount of money you have, including your investment, and especially your private keys/seed phrase is highly confidential. When it comes to money, limiting all the necessary information is a must and should not be easy to let other people see.

As long as you consider the place very safe and no one can enter except through yourself, I don't think there is a need to check it every day, even if it only takes one minute. But sometimes we also need to make sure that the place where we put the Seed Phrase is not infested by ants or cockroaches or other similar insects, even though there is little chance of them being targeted by them if our house is always clean and tidy. Actually, I also rarely check my Seed Phrase after I write it with pen ink on paper which I then store in a small box. But once every three months I always visit it to make sure the box is still in the same place and not attacked by any insects.

You should not check your wallet for six months. Yes but if you don't have crypto currency in your wallet then there is no problem if you don't check your wallet for six months. But if you have bitcoins in your wallet then you should login from time to time. Many times things like wallet hacking can happen, in this case you can rest assured about the security of your wallet.

-If you forget about it, well, you may never remember it again.
-If you check it every day, every minute etc... Then this will make you think a lot about it and you may change your original plans and changing strategies too many times bring nothing but trouble.

Forgetting its existence is a problem, checking it out too many times is a problem too. It is better to find a balance between these 2 behaviors.

If you can't handle that kind of stress, you should probably get back to legacy banking where people handle your funds for you.

If we don't check or access it, how do we know it's still safe? I agree, we don't need to check regularly every day or every week, but at least every 2 to 3 months we should check everything again to be sure and make sure that everything is still safe. Nothing in this world is absolutely safe, so we should not be subjective, especially assets with great value like bitcoin. I don't check regularly, but I still access my wallet at least once a month to know that my bitcoins are safe. Even though I know they're still safe where I keep them, it's better to be careful.

I do actually. And apart from that I know it's safe. Nobody is fool enough to keep their seed phrase in a bug infested dark shadowy place. Even if some bugs do find it, I have multiple backup for it. Taking no chance at all. My relief is that, my seed phrase isn't anywhere online. There is no chance in getting hacked in online. The online day when my seeds were exposed were the day they were created and the day when I used them to import my wallet.

I have my seed phrase stored in my mailbox and my device notepad while I checked on it once it comes to my mind to do so, I wasn't used to checking on my first seed phrase before untill I learnt my lesson from loosing my pk to a wallet consistent of assets of great worth. I don't have it written and kept with in my other files, this post just remind me of doing that just now.

I've already done written it down on paper just right now, but the other ones you mentioned to be on metallic steel, please I have no idea about how exactly how to get started about that, do I have to pay someone to do that for me?, how is that been done by the way, just felt curious to ask.

Always check your seed phrase to be sure it is intact
There is no need to check the seed phrase every time if you hid it once and well. It is enough to keep an eye on the place where the seed phrase is stored, making sure that no one else has access to it. You need to hide it in such a way that when outsiders gain access, signs of their presence remain, so that you can understand it even without unnecessary checking of the phrase itself.

To avoid damage, use stable and durable storage media. This will also reduce the need for unnecessary checks.

I believe that the phrase and storage location don't need to be “disturbed” once again. Your excessive presence in this place may attract unwanted attention from strangers.

Be sure you alone have access where your seed phrase is kept.
There are no places in the world where you have sole access. There is always a chance that someone else will come to the place where your seed phrase is stored.

It is not possible to understand if multiple people have accessed the same wallet using 1 seed phrase, but if you have not given your seed phrase to someone else, then no one can guess it or hack it to access your wallet.  So always store it in a good and safe place so that it is not accessible to others. A seed phrase is something that can be used to access a wallet without any authorization and control the funds of that wallet.  Remember not your key not your bitcoin.  So it is your responsibility to protect many seed phrases.

I have 4 backups of my phrase key and they are all secure and still in their place. I also moved to a new place a month ago but my first concern was my seed phrase. I have it on a piece of wood, on a piece of paper, on a hard drive on a PC and on a removal drive. These are the 4 things that I have backed up my seed phrase to. I have a plan to make a dogtag and print the whole seed as a QR code but there are no local manufacturers that I can trust. I will need a laser engraver and a fresh dogtag for that.

Anyway, I do check every now and then to make sure that my seed phrases are safe. I made a big mistake in my early days. I backed up my key on an online notepad platform and it got compromised. Never gonna do that mistake again LOL.

Back in the day when I frequently checked my seedphrase/private key  I accidentally changed a character unknowingly and when I tried to access my wallet I lost control of the wallet just like that..and ever since ,all I do is create wallet, back it up and try get into my account and if all goes smooth it's never again checking on the seedphrase to avoid messing up what I have.

yes when ever you check a seed it is possible to accidentally alter the seed.

say you have electrum wallet

12 word seed

plus an extra 13 word.

it is possible to screw up the 13th word and buy buy coins.

I can’t recall the last time I have checked on my back up phrase, I don’t have reason to do that yet, I always only remember to go check on it if I want to get something outside any of my wallet which I don’t have access to in my mobile gadget.

My phrase is saved in 3 different location and two among them is close to me which means when ever I want to check up on it I can always do that, I always don’t see need to always go and check up on it times without number as it could reduce the security of it, the more I often visits the location the more likely it can get exposed which is not good for something like that.

And another thing is that it’s in a place that’s lost secured in my apartment which, means I don’t have to worth’s about it being misplace or someone getting it out due to them looking for something or any of they as my space is being respected.

Write it on steel? Lol! I don't know how possible that can be, considering the fact that steel could be heavy and difficult to write on.
Anyway, my opinion though, wriring it on multiple places is my best bet. It has been working for me.
All I need do is keep it safe, far away from prying eyes.
Moreover, I have important documents that are on paper, they haven't been damaged, so this won't be an exemption.

I think it's a good idea to regularly check on our seed phrase and to make sure that there is no issue with it. Personally, I like to have to save copy just to be on the safe side and not risk losing access to my wallet. One copy I keep in a bank vault in my home town, it's a bit hard to visit there during office hours as I usually just go home for the holidays. I used a piece of paper and a good pen, leaving everything in an envelope and there shouldn't be any issue for the seed phrase to disappear. My main copy of my seed phrase I keep closer to myself and I can check regularly on its condition. The good thing about having all the important files in one place at the bank is in the case that something happens to me, my family has no issue finding my crypto wallet and can get access to it. If I ever make a enough money with my investment portfolios, I would love to install a high end safe at home to store all important information their instead of the bank. But for that I need to make enough returns to make it a good decision, otherwise the bank deposit box is much cheaper.

I understand that several thread has been created concerning the importance of keeping our seed phrase save but the question now is this, how often do you check your seed phrase?.

This is a really good question. The majority of people never even think to check their stored seed phrases, but it's crucial to make sure they're secure and undamaged by checking them on a regular basis. A whole lot of people don't even give remember they stored something somewhere and just assume it's safe there, sometimes even forgetting where they put them because it's been too long. Some even go months without checking it until they might need to use it. Since the seed phrase serves as a kind of entryway to our assets, we should make it a habit to check its security on a regular basis to make sure we don't lose them.

Like you, the majority of people tend to forget about things and only remember them when they are needed. If we continue to assume that things are safe, we will eventually forget where they are kept. Since the seed phrase is just as important as our assets, we must always remember to check it in the same way that we check the market price and direction. Crypto experts have always advised making duplicates and storing our keys and seed phrase in different locations in case of unforeseen circumstances or unexpected events, just as it happened with OP. This is the best practise. It's a blessing that you made duplicates and that your efforts paid off, else you would have lost everything otherwise.

( 1) Do not keep your seed phrase in a particular place

This forum has always given us the best security measures. I've read a lot of posts and opinions about different ways people store their keys and seed phrase, and I've come to the conclusion that creating duplicates and keeping backups is the most effective approach in case the original storage location is compromised. In case of an emergency, I would even suggest making up to three duplicates and keeping them in separate places. I think in order to avoid losing their assets, beginners would take a lesson from this post and create duplicates just like you did.

(2) Always check your seed phrase to be sure it is intact

This is the most important point of all. It is not sufficient to just keep your seed phrase in a safe place; are you certain that it is secure there? Even so, are you certain it's still there? Even though you may think that only you have access to the location, you never know what will happen to it. If you can have access there then anyone else can also enter the area knowingly or unknowingly and tamper with it. For this reason, it is wise to make it a habit to routinely verify that your seed phrase remains intact.

Assuming, for instance, that you created duplicates and kept them in various places, someone unintentionally tampered with one, and then you relocated shortly after, you lost access to the original. You then attempted to find the duplicate copy but discovered it was missing. In this scenario, what would you do? This indicates that because you haven't been checking your seed phrase frequently, you have lost your assets. It is for this reason that it is crucial to frequently check your seed phrase.

It is the same for me, I don't check it often, I can not even remember the last time that I have checked my seed phrase, it is safely stored already in a piece of paper on my favorite book and I have all the necessary information written on it so I know the purpose of that piece of paper in case I forgot what those series of words are about. I do not really understand the reason for constant checking of the seed phrase, will it suddenly change the next time because I did not check on it regularly? Of course it will not happen so there is no point as to why I should do that.

lol I just keep screen of seed in my gallery xd. But it need to know 2 passwords to get access to my gallery
That's the key point. Bro, that's the key point.

Obviously, this is the stupidest thing to do: take a screenshot of the seed phrase. Because no Android or iOS device gives you this guarantee that your data will not be accessible to Google, this means that you have Gmail on your phone, and all Google products are connected, like Google Drive. When hackers hack your Gmail by fishing link, they can easily access your photo, screenshot, and data. And no matter how many pass codes and security gates you use, a hacker can easily hack you, and when he gets hold of the seed phrase, he can obviously steal your funds.

Fortunately, I also have his witness (https://youtube.com/@learnfastearn?si=nQ2-RhbuZynKfcHy), who also had a similar incident. And his million-dollar crypto assets were stolen.
So the meaning of the saying is that you shouldn't take a screenshot of your seed phrase. Be careful with your seed phrase, and don't keep it on your phone. While only printing or write it down on paper in a safe place. Only then will it be safe.

And at the end, @Z-tight brother gave you a better example and explained that if the screen shot was good or safe, then why TopWallet doesn't allow you to take a screenshot? It means that it is an unsafe method. Hopefully, some minds will be opened.

At least once a week I check the 12 words Seedphases in my Electrum wallet, login to the wallet and check my weekly payments. Although I have logged into my security seedphase wallet for a long time and check the balance weekly by just logging in with the password. Repeatedly logging in with Security Seedphase has ricks, that's why I have logged in with Seedphase.
I have saved the Seedphases of my wallet in Google Drive with a strong password. That's why I don't access my google drive frequently because if someone steals access to my google drive then there is a possibility of hacking bitcoins from my wallet. That's why I check my Seedphase after a long time.

Since there has been more and more news about people who lost their bitcoin wallet seed phrases because they were hacked - their devices were stolen - their devices were damaged, so I store mine in many wallets, currently I use 4 different wallets (safepal, trust wallet, bluewallet, unstopabble) well I installed each of my wallets on several devices, when one of my devices has a problem then I will go to one of my wallets (another device) and see my seed phrase there, usually just use the password and everything is done, I don't know I don't know if people use my method, but we have to maintain our bitcoin wallet seed phrase as well as possible.

Checking your seed phrases periodically is a good thing, but it's a bad idea if you're storing your seed phrases on Google Drive. Basically, online storage is very risky, so using a strong password doesn't guarantee you anything. One more thing, whether you regularly access google drive or not does not guarantee that your seeds are safe. Because don't forget that your GGdrive is already linked to your online gmail account. Once your gmail is hacked, you will lose all access and data to your google resources. I strongly oppose the idea of storing your seed phrases on an online storage platform.

I almost never check it because when I create a cryptocurrency wallet I save the seed phrase in several different places and in my notebook. Although I am someone who rarely checks the seed phrases because they never change, I make sure to check my backup files at regular intervals because I have a wallet with a balance in it that I have lost access to before. Yes, this is a bad situation but I had such an experience with the inexperience of the period when I first started to be interested in cryptocurrencies. For this reason, nowadays I want to at least check my file backups and notebook regularly to make sure that I have nothing missing.

Why the hell will I need to check my seed phrase or private key often? What do I expect to see differently other than a bunch of phrase steering right back at me each time.

Well, I’ve had to import my wallet a few times over the course of a year with utmost necessity and that have got to do with, having my wallet on a device of interest. Other than that, nope! I feel more secure in not having to go back yo it every now and then, I just know that it’s placed in a safe place and space and don’t have anyone yo tamper it so, it’s cool not having to create attention or cause reasons that would necessitate a transfer. Can’t be doing that from time to time, I might mess things up in the process and that ain’t allowed in this business.

I personally also very rarely check wallet phrases. But even so, I'm sure the wallet phrase I have is still safe. Because I have laminated the book where I wrote the wallet sentence and it will be safer from termites which will damage the paper. So I'm not too worried, because apart from that I also have a special safe to store the wallet phrase. What is certain is that I will not forget where I saved the wallet phrase.

If you have your seed phrase stamped into metal (stainless steel or titanium) then you can be sure that it is protected from all physical harm and will last a lifetime.

Once you know that your seed phrase is basically indestructible, you need to focus on hiding it in a safe place. There's not much need to constantly check on it unless you need to use that wallet often. You should probably use a tier'd system for all of your bitcoin so you can set aside some of your stack for well into the future where you don't need to check on your seed phrase all the time.

Here's a good system for managing your seed phrase. Each tier can be used to send bitcoin to the next tier as needed.
Long-Term Savings: Seed phrase punched into metal and use an air-gapped hardware wallet (with passphrase or multisig) for signing and broadcasting transactions.
Mid-Term Savings: Seep phrase punched into steel and use a hardware wallet that you might decide to plug into a computer to sign and broadcast transactions.
Short-Term Savings: Bitcoin kept on a hot wallet that is sent to lightning wallet for daily spending.
Spending: Lightning wallet for daily spending online and out in the real world.

Lessons( 1) Do not keep your seed phrase in a particular place (2) Always check your seed phrase to be sure it is intact (3) Be sure you alone have access where your seed phrase is kept.

The significance of all of this is that seed phrase is a very important and valuable resource that you require in order to keep your account safe and secure from hackers. Many of them who are familiar with bitcoin and the seed phrase can easily infiltrate it and steal funds from it. You must always keep an eye out to ensure that your personal information is not exposed online, as this is the simplest way to attack you. But if you don't mind, you can always check on this oo yea his in every matter because they own the key to it clinic everywhere.

This is the main reason why it is being advised that everyone with Bitcoin holdings to use a hardware wallet especially if you are aiming for a long-term holding. Hardware wallets are a good way to hold your crypto as it is more secure than software wallets. With using a hardware wallet, it is not required to regularly check your wallet or getting worried of being a victim of hacking. As long as you keep the important information of your hardware wallet.

Can checking on a scale guarantee the security of our wallets? The level of security is not seen in the extent to which people often check, but rather how someone can store the seed phrase in a safe place. The phrase functions to recover it and that means the phrase must be stored in a much safer place that no one can reach. To be honest I very rarely check seed phrases because I think from the start I have them stored safely so there is no need to check at scale.

Some wallets don't even give a prompt when you capture the screen and we are required to write the seed phrase as a small security measure. That's why regarding security, we have our own role in protecting it and when we ignore it, we ourselves will be harmed.

I thought people would be doing that already but I guess I was wrong. It's good that you have pointed it out.
People should really verify that their seed phrase are in the same condition as it was before.
Multiple backups in different locations is utmost necessary to make sure you still have the access to your funds.

I rarely check my seed phrase, but sometimes I accidentally do it because I'm confused about what else to do in front of the monitor and just for fun I like to open it.
And I have also modified my seed phrase with a steel plate that I put in a very safe place and also some pieces of paper that I kept in several places in case of unexpected events. And this seed phrase is the core of the assets that I hold and must be looked after properly, so I think it's a good idea to check it, even though it's not often, but it's a sign that we care about the seed phrase.

Honestly, I couldn't remember how often I check my seeds phrase in a year and even changing my passwords haven't done yet. Maybe there is no problem with that if we know that was totally kept safe and of course, when we know that nobody knows where we save and keep them. It was necessary only if we used 3rd party wallets as they are prone to hacking incidents. Checking twice a year is good enough because as long as we never save our keys/seeds which are accessible online, I was sure that it was safe.

not that often mate , because  there is no need to check my Seed because of being safe and I am confident enough.

Not sure why people need to check it from time to time? sometimes our continues checking will send chances for this  to be hacked or phish .

and also When need to transfer and withdraw yes that is the time I need to check them again .

Well, there are some people who want to check the current status of their see phrase just to be sure of its safety. Even if you store it in a place where no one can easily find it, there are some people who can't stop thinking of the possibilities that might happen.

There is no wrong in one checking for their key phrase regularly or constantly because that would give them an assurance that their key phrase are still where they are kept which is advisable to do for security reasons.

Why it is done is to know if there is any shift or change in position where the details were kept so the owner would know if there is any compromise as to warrant him or her to move the assets from that wallet to a new one.  If you read OP post well you will notice that OP made a statement which points towards that direction and it happened that OP noticed it as a result of his relocation from his previous place to a new place which warrants he checked for it if it is still intact where he kept it. That alone could make some one lose their assets thinking they had backup somewhere written down but unknown to them they had lost it while moving things from one spot to another.

This is why it is good to constantly checking on your keys if Stored or written down and kept elsewhere for safe keeping purposes. So I am would say it is not bad for a constant check on ones key phrase regularly.

Constantly checking your seed phrase is not necessary. My personal approach is to write the seed phrase on 2 or 3 papers covered in plastic to protect it from environmental damage. I check my Bitcoin balance once a month because I add some to my hardware wallet.

I don't check my seed phrases very often but I don't see any problem if someone checks periodically or multiple times. How can that lead to hacking or fraud when you do it alone and if you use a hardware wallet you hardly need to connect or do anything on your computer? Depending on each person's personality, some people will check periodically but others won't, and I see it has nothing to do with hacking or scam as you said. In my opinion, we do not need to check regularly but periodically several times a year is the right thing to do.

As for me, I open it at least once a year and I don't recommend it because we have some different level of knowledge and I was lucky enough to remember my Seed Phrase throughout these years. Others might find it difficult to do what I am doing but surely by now, they have found a way where they can easily protect and preserve their keys. As long as you don't compromise your seed keys and expose them to others, you are completely in any way shape, or form you are preserving it right now. The best way is to write it and cut it in half while keeping it in different places, it works for me well.

Anyway, I do check every now and then to make sure that my seed phrases are safe. I made a big mistake in my early days. I backed up my key on an online notepad platform and it got compromised. Never gonna do that mistake again LOL.
Keeping savings in an online wallet is much riskier than keeping them on a trading platform. I think most of us committed this foolishness in the beginning.
You tried to avoid this old error, but it does not seem that you took the correct steps since you have four backup copies. Multiple copies increase the possibility of one of them being discovered or stolen. This would have been effective if you had more than one seed, meaning that you divided your savings into more than one wallet, which can be considered a safe step as well.

Too many wallets is not necessarily safe because you can avoid hacker attacks and only lose a portion of your bitcoins if one of your wallets is hacked. But using multiple wallets for storage means you need to spend a lot of time and need to find many safe places to store those Seed Phrases. If you have an amount of money up to millions of USD, you can divide it into 2 to 3 wallets, but if it's just a few bitcoins, I think just 1 wallet is enough. As long as we ensure the safety of the seed phrase, there is nothing to fear.

Maintaining the security and integrity of the Seed Phrase needs to be done so as not to lose access to open the wallet where you store several assets. I'm the type of person who rarely checks Seed Phrase because it has always been stored in a safe place and can be guaranteed to always be in good condition. Everyone will agree that the Seed Phrase is the most valuable part for individuals who store crypto assets, as long as it is stored in a safe place and written on a hard object such as a stainless plate or the like, there is no need to check it periodically because its needs are guaranteed.

It is never a bad decision to have multiple wallets in order to store your BTC. The safer you stay the safer your assets will be. Even if it's 1 BTC, you should take caution and keep it in separate wallets by dividing it. If one of your wallets gets compromised, you can still have the other wallets. Safety is the key. To some people, $10 means a lot and they will do whatever is necessary to keep it safe. So I don't think it's a bad idea. Instead, it's a good practice to do.

Today you may own $1 tomorrow it could be $1000. So doing it beforehand and gaining experience is good. It all comes down to how you keep your seed phrase safe. Many people have different methods that they use for this particular reason. Maybe you should also come up with something and keep your phrase safe that way. You can keep multiple seeds in one place and encrypt them using your own method. That will ensure safety no matter how many copies you make out of it.

If there is no problem, for me I do not need to check it because I know that it is there and intact. But these reminders on why we need to check got me guilty that I have to be so sure too that it's doing well and if the words that have been written are still fine and printed.

Indeed if the security of the device where your wallet is logged would be enough as long as you are being responsible with the platforms or things you are accessing it with. Only those who are anxious are the ones to check it frequently. But in reality, the more you do not access it with platforms or networks which could infect the mother device, won't give you any problem on the long run. Just be sure to keep the copy of where it is written in order to make sure that no one else would have access into it and that if there would be anu problems then you could make an action with it.It is our money in the first place which should be enough to push us to be more cautious of its linkage and to avoid things get into worse.

From the day i created my wallet i mever really check my seep phrase to be honest it is written in a notebook so i guess it is kinda safe in there , i mever really relocate my wallet it is just on my desktop pc, probably only if i encounter problem that is the time that i am going to look and check my seed phrase to recover my account again.

But i keep that i mind, i only use my wallet on one desktop so that it is not going to be confusing and just to be safe. Im just afraid of doing something on my seed phrase since it has funds on it. I might break it or something so i avoid doing something or checking it.

The initial code phrase on a crypto wallet is something that is very important to always keep safe. Because of the wallet code phrase, the contents must be truly valuable. So don't be careless if you save and hide the code phrase. Don't let us forget where we hid the wallet phrase code. In essence, in my personal opinion, keep the wallet password code in a safe place, but don't hide it too much. Just save it in a place that is familiar to our thoughts.

And checking regularly is also very necessary. So that we can always ensure that the wallet phrase code is safe. Because checking the code phrase doesn't take much time, it must always be checked regularly.

Nice.
You have secured it probably with a metal piece or dog tag that will never get burnt and no doubt that even Earthquake comes, it's still going to be in whole piece.
That's nice that you have made your homework well and you're able to secure that regardless of what acts of nature will come.

The seed phrase is not something to memorize. so you have to find a place to keep it securely which will be very secure because if someone gets it then they can access the wallet and manage the funds without any authorization. The seed phrase or private key is the lifeblood of a wallet. So to save your wallet you need to save your seed phrase.  And keeping multiple wallets safe is a lot of trouble so it is wise to use only 1 wallet as main wallet for holding and 2nd wallet for another purpose

Of course, it will not be useful to use multiple wallets to save a small amount, and it will also not be useful to keep more than one copy of the seed if the person wants to save the same amount on one wallet. Saving the seed can be done in a variety of ways, most of which are considered safe if it is not in an electronic copy or on the cloud. However, using more than one method to save the seed, meaning having several copies of it, increases the possibility of it being hacked. But when the amount is large and you distribute it among several wallets, I think it is better to save the seeds in different places and not in one place.

Even a single copy, once it's well secured you're safe because numerous copies surely will expose it to getting hacked. And if you should make additional copies, I think two duplicate or highest three copies should be okay and it's also advisable to divide the seeds into two and save it in a different place to minimize the risk of theft. Even if someone manage to locate the first half, finding the other second half will be difficult and it will definitely increase your security level. I personally don't have more than one copy of my seed phrase for now and just like the op pointed out, I don't usually check it because I believe frequent checking might increase the chances of hackers getting access to it although I remember where exactly I kept it. Now, I think it's high time I get additional copies reading the experience of the Op.

You've got the wrong idea mate. You don't just put your seed phrase directly on a piece of paper or whatever you are using in order to store your seed. You use some kind of encryption before you do it. Here's an interesting method I have come up with. There are 12 or 24 words in a seed phrase based on which one you choose. Now you can divide them into 3 or 4 parts. That being 1 2 & 3 or 1 2 3 & 4. In each of those groups, you put the same amount of words (this is for a 12-word seed phrase). Each group can have 3 or 4 words based on your choosing. Then you can randomize them to get a number. For example, it could be 3412. Now you put as many random words as you want between each number. But the number of new random words should be the same. For example, if you want to put 4 words before the number 3 in the group of 3412, the number of new words after 3 4 1 and 2 should be 4 words as well.

like this RW= Random Words.
RW RW RW RW 3 (contains the actual seed) RW RW RW RW 4 (contains the actual seed) RW............................RW [it goes like this until you have a full list of random words.]

Then you can make as many copies as you want and trust me, it is gonna take months for hackers to crack this.  (if they get a hold of your word list in the first place.)

All you need is the word list, the amount of random words you put in between and the actual number after randomization. For Example 3412.
You first make sure even if someone gets their hands on the seed, they won't be able to crack it. Then you make backups. That's how I do it. [Not exactly the same method but something else that I am not going to disclose publicly.]
But yeah. Having multiple seeds in one backup is not an issue if you are able to encrypt it. ALso, you can add some dummy accounts in there as well. You know the formula so you can check all the accounts, but for hackers, it will be a nightmare.

The seed phrases of my wallet accounts are also very rarely seen by me, because they are saved on my flash drives, I don't save a phrase on my desktop or laptop especially on a mobile device.

But I get a glimpse from time to time when I open my account wallet whether it's electrum, ethereum, or Bsc wallet account. It's important to hide them so that hackers can't get them like what happens to others who steal seed phrases or private keys.

Seriously when I saw this post I started thinking of where I saw my seed phrase last (where I wrote it). The seed phrase is something many find hard to even check on from time to time. Like me I don't know where I wrote and I think if is going to be a secret then there's no need knowing where I wrote it.
But another thing is that I have people who I can comfortably show without anything happening, the thing is knowing the kind of people you find yourself around.

The truth is that we all hard check our seedphrae because we have the believe that where the seed phrase is, it is very safe, we only go in search for our seed phrase when it is  needed . But I'm just reasoning that it is important to check the seedphrase from time to time not only when we need to . The seedphrase is also important as the bitcoin we have in the wallet so I think the seedphrase needs to be checked the way bitcoin balance is checked in the wallet, because if the seedphrae is been tampered with their will be nothing left on the wallet.

Lessons( 1) Do not keep your seed phrase in a particular place (2) Always check your seed phrase to be sure it is intact (3) Be sure you alone have access where your seed phrase is kept.
- I agree with you; it's too risky if we store our information in only one place, and we're the only ones who know about it. It's advisable to have at least 2 to 3 copies stored in different locations, and ideally, it's a good practice to let your spouse or a family member know about those places. Personally, I use a backup storage service in a bank, and my wife is aware of it.
- Additionally, I'd like to emphasize that we should encrypt our seed phrase. In case someone happens to discover or obtain our seed phrase, it would be challenging for them to use it if it's encrypted.

I think that dividing the seed into two or more parts is not a good idea at all, since this requires keeping each part in a separate place from the other.
Preserving a single copy of the seed is not enough, no matter how well it is secured. The assumption of loss or damage must always be taken into account, regardless of the materials from which the preservation device is made.
In one recent case, a citizen of the besieged Gaza Strip happened to lose his copy of the seed after his house collapsed during the Israeli bombing. If he did not have a password-secured wallet on his phone so he could transfer the money to a new wallet, he would have lost it forever.

I think you have given me a good reason why I think I won't stop checking my seed phrase on a regular basis even though it is safe where it is. Funny enough most of us always check  to know the current price of Bitcoin on daily basis because there lies our treasure I don't see any reason why I shouldn't check my seed phrase since it can also get misplaced or stolen because anything is possible nowadays.

After looking at the contributions I got here after making this thread, I find out that there are certain things I shouldn't do even though am no longer a newbie in the system but yes your contribution has also inspired me to not stop checking the condition of my seed phrase.

Regularly checking your seed phrase is not necessary unless there are specific circumstances that warrant it. While it's crucial to safeguard your seed phrase, frequent verification can increase the risk of exposure, especially if others have access to your personal space.

In normal circumstances, it's advisable to store your seed phrase alongside your essential documents. Treat it with the same level of care and confidentiality as you would your passport, bank statements, or other sensitive information.

However, regular checks beyond relocation are generally unnecessary if you've stored your seed phrase securely and have multiple backups. Excessive handling can introduce vulnerabilities, so it's best to minimize unnecessary exposure. Remember, your seed phrase is the key to your cryptocurrency holdings. Treat it with the utmost care and avoid unnecessary exposure to safeguard your digital assets.

Storing your seed phrase on a usb drive is not a bad option, it can be a good method of offline storage if done correctly and in a safe enviroment, but you must ensure that your usb is encrypted and you also do not store any extra data on that same usb drive. A usb drive can fail and the data on it would be lost, so the safer option is to make multiple copies of your back up on different usb drives, and also back up your seed phrase on paper.
But I get a glimpse from time to time when I open my account wallet whether it's electrum,
Your wallet is not an 'account' if it is a self custodial wallet, it is either a software or hardware wallet, you have accounts on centralized exchanges and services and it is not recommended to store your funds in their wallet.

When one has stored the seed phrase safely then not checking it constantly is not a problem because we have made sure to store it in a safer place. Seed phrases are an important thing to save because this is one of the levels of security of the assets we have and when someone doesn't save them properly it can be dangerous. I rarely check it because I have stored the phrase in a much safer place that no one can reach.

But checking as a security measure may not be a problem so that we do not feel worried about the assets we have in it. But as many people have said, when you have stored it properly and safely not checking it regularly is not a big problem. Make sure that we have stored it safely so that we don't have to check it regularly.

Perhaps, the only thing we need to often check is the transaction happening in our wallet just to sure that there is nothing wrong happen and unauthorized withdrawals. Because as long as our seeds phrase kept safely, nothing to worry about, and our wallet remains untouchable.
As far as I can remember, I only check my seeds phrase twice after the creation of the wallet and when I transfer location just to be sure that I've never lost the notes I've made, it is all about crypto.

Indeed, by looking at the transactions that occur we can check the security of our wallets, but before that happens I think it would be better to anticipate not letting it happen to other people. at least we can open the wallet periodically to make sure it is working, on the other hand a phrase backup must also be done, if something goes wrong then there is still a backup so the wallet can still function

Of course we should check the seed phrase. Very beginning of my crypto life when I transferred my wallet for the first time, I was very upset I found that the seed phrase key of my wallet was not working. But luckily I kept the seed phrase one of my other devices otherwise all my assets would have been lost. Which is why I must also say that those who are storing their seed phrases can check if my wallet keys are correct or not. Otherwise it will not be possible to recover if any error has occurred. These actions should be taken for the safety of assets.

It is true that one should not always keep their phrase in a particular place so that they would always have other rescue option when it happens that one of their back ups are missing. This is very important because you would not be solely depending on one source of back up to your key phrase but when you have it saved in two or three places, you can be rest assured of the  safety of your assets when you do a regular check on them to know if they are intact where you have kept them. This measures you have mentioned is a very good on OP. If members can see the truth in what you have just said, I believe they would give it a trial.

Securing the seed phrase is the most important thing to do as Bitcoin holder. And another way to get the seed phrase if in case you lost it. You can log in to the wallet and from the wallet you can get it back but whereby you have forgotten your password then there is no way you can get it back again. I don't keep my security information or details in one place. I normally keep them outside the house and in the house so if anything happens to one side the other side is still saved.

If you keep your seed phrase in good place and saved and in several places then there is need to check on them once a while. Don't disclose your seed phrase to people around you. Because they will use it to hack you. Stay safe with you login details with your seed phrase.
