Title: The Joy of forgotten Bitcoin accounts...
Post by: Kakmakr on November 30, 2023, 02:57:05 PM
So, I was just opening my email today....and browsing through the spam and the unsolicited junk email and phishing scams, when my eye caught a name that I have not seen in a few years. I clicked and opened the email and saw that it was a site that I joined over 5 years ago.. but I totally forgot about it.

This email warned me that the site are going to delete all the dormant accounts, so I navigated to the site (manually... not clicking on links) and tried to login. I obviously forgot the password, so I clicked on the "forgot password" option and it allowed me to change my password.

To my surprise, the account was still funded with coins that I deposited almost 5 years ago... and it was worth considerably more now... than what it was worth back then. (I think the Bitcoin price was around $7000+ at the time)

This put a huge smile on my face, because it is the EXPENSIVE holiday season and I need all the money that I can get to fund this silly time of the year.

Have you experienced the same thing..... please share your story with us.  ;)

I’m not sure if this is counted.

Not an account but a seed phrase that I save on the drafts of my personal mail. I’m very active on participating to airdrop before that’s why I always save Ethereum as fee was back ETH price is just 100$ each.

My computer got infected by virus that makes my backup .json file for my seed phrase deleted in the process. I knew the existence of my Ethereum wallet and all the ETH inside but I lose hope on recovering it. Luckily, I open my drafts when I’m sending an email then notice the seed phrase. I remember that I temporarily backup my Eth address when I created on MEW to my email through saving it on drafts.

This gives me around 2000$ with just a 0.6ETH

I am not sure it is a true story but I have reasons to believe you are telling a truth. Because I knew some people who bought Dogecoin in years like 2017 and 2018 and left them on exchanges like Bittrex, Poloniex before they moved to Binance for trading. With Dogecoin in 2017 or 2018, it was traded at low value but suddenly in 2021, it pumped a lot by Elon Musk. Those guys got considerable money from Dogecoin they left on exchange accounts which they did not touch for years.

Storing your seed phrase in a personal email's draft. Oh, it' is a very bad practice. You have to stop doing this since today.

You just need to see the smiles on my face right now while reading this post, as if I'm the one who discovered the forgotten Bitcoin. Lolz... And, I understand the joy you must be feeling right now, knowing you have an extra $7000 to spend this forthcoming Christmas, as it's really something worth to celebrate, and I'm very much happy for you. But however, there are two lessons I got to learn from this, which include;

1: To always diversify your funds and not storing it all in just one basket, because if only had you not diversify your Bitcoin asset into different wallets, you never would have discovered this whooping huge sum.

2. To always store your coin on a very secured wallet,
because only if had you not stored this amount of Bitcoin on a reputable wallet, I'm sure by today the exchange or wallet is likely to have gone bankrupt or shutdown and you losing all your funds.

Now why would I want to lie about something trivial like this? It is a "crash" type gambling site and I think a lot of people are getting these emails from them, because they are busy with house cleaning. (I checked my other webmail addresses and found another email from an Alt account that I created on the site... but that account was empty.)

I also had a small amount of Dogecoin on faucet site... but they closed it down. (Freebitco.in also had a dogecoin faucet) ...would be nice if I found that info.... because Dogecoin was shit back in those days. (The whole Elon Musk thing... hyped it a little... but I cannot seem to find anything I kept.. from the account I created for that)  :P

This kind of stories are very rare. (PS. I am genuinely happy for you!) People who are for this long crypto aware (to say to) know that it's not safe to keep money for long at exchanges, hence if there was something valuable, it was withdrawn.
On the other hand, I am certain that I've left a long trail of worthless altcoins (lower than the minimum to withdraw) along the exchange I've used, especially in my early years of my crypto adventure, but I am not aware that any of those would suddenly become of any value :D (and I will also not start now to hope or look for that)

With the various forks, e.g. bitcoin gold etc, many people may have "forgotten" holdings out there.  It is difficult to know unless you are aware of every fork that has happened, so don't forget to look and see there too.

Speaking of forgotten things, I've also had some discoveries over the years, although I've always been very careful with Bitcoins and I haven't (at least as far as I know) lost anything. Given that I started collecting dogecoins almost 10 years ago and that at that time 1000 of those coins were worth even $0.14, at one point I collected them all in one pile and discovered that I had enough of them to buy a car in a medium range. After that I remembered another "forgotten project" and dug up another forgotten treasure.

The bad news is that I didn't sell any of it because I simply didn't need the money then, and if Mr. Mars doesn't perform his magic again, it will just be another in a series of stories that I will remember. I won't regret it though, it's just money :)

I just hope that I also did the same as you did years ago, but no I didn't. I know all my accounts, and I still have their username and passwords.

What I only remember is a cloud mining website called Eobot, and I remember that I did put some Bitcoins there. Those Bitcoins are the ones that I got through doing some faucets back when I was a newbie. By the time I saw this thread, I tried visiting that website, but it wasn't existing anymore. I was a newbie at that time, and I don't care about it anymore because, after all, I got it for free. :D

TBH, you're lucky that you still have those coins that you deposited 5 years ago. Most of them either forgot it already or if they kind of remember it, they already forgot the username and password that they used. I guess I need to congratulate you because you will have some money to be used in this upcoming holiday, or you will have some coins that you can sell when the bull run happens. :)

I would say it was a lottery won but no maybe I should say it was an income on your long term investment that has done you such good.
I haven't had one the experience but sometimes ago around 2016, I learnt about from someone who sold his Bitcoin but left with some unreasonable fractions.
He literally said he had to go a different phase of life because Bitcoin is not a journey one could Lean on since he needed to go into some conventional businesses.

He said he left over a minimum fractions of the Bitcoin intensionally with the aim that he wanted the limited Bitcoin in that of his wallet to serve as services to the wallets account so it doesn't get dormant. That was his mentality. He basically forgot about it but around April 2023 he has to retrace and could manipulate and succeeded access to the account again after all the pros and the cons of Bitcoin. Then he said to had been shocked over the rate of accumulated Bitcoins in that of his account and then he was impressed and had to accumulate more and sets to hodl for a long term.

I think at most cases in long-term investors runners, something experienced impressively are triggered them with the courage to hodling for the long periods of time and not mostly like they just want hodl for a long term.

I have heard a lot about this and hello, I keep my private keys to myself and hover along them after some periods of time and hoping if related testimonies would happen too 😆.

First of all, congratulations on your treasure discovery... I have seen beauty of holding Bitcoin for long, I guess the website just helped you to achieve that.

From your impression, the holiday season is settled for you and that is something amazing, after all,  what is wealth without enjoying it? However, I will suggest you don't blow all away, just discipline yourself to use half of the funds and you will still have enough fun while holding some Bitcoin as we enter the halving year. The portion you are holding might just yield as much profits as the money you saw in that account. Just my suggestion, it is up to you to do what is suitable for you.

My experience is somewhat similar. An old Bitcoin casino I joined several years ago was closing, and they sent email notifications to all registered players. I hadn't visited the site for years and forgot that I even have a balance there. When I saw the email, I logged in to see if I left anything in my account. I found over 0.06 BTC and had no problems withdrawing it.

If they hadn't been honest about their intentions or if the email had landed in my spam folder, I would probably not have seen it because it's not an email address I use regularly. If the email spent 10 days in the spam folder, it would have been deleted. The email was a few weeks old and luckily my email client didn't classify it as spam.

Congrats! You should buy a lottery ticket today. Luck is on your side.

I too had a similar incident couple of years back on Litecoin. I had an account with Litecoin foundation when the price was in cents and we used to get a good amount of litecoins from faucets. I had stored my entire faucet earnings in the wallet and due to low price, I didn't care much.

When I discovered that account, the price of Litecoin was around 30 dollars. So I had recovered them and moved them to my secret wallet. I am holding them still today. It's feels great to find such treasures sometime. I totally understand the feeling.

The closest I have come to this is creating a Bitcoin wallet to test run something. I sent a small amount of Bitcoin to that wallet ran the test I wanted to and left them on the wallet without opening it for the next 3 years.
When I returned to the wallet later when I was verifying my different seedphrases I discovered it and the then insignificant amount had become a bit more significant. It felt like a gift to myself from the past.

You were really lucky to not only get notified of the plan to close dormant accounts but to still find your funds on it. In my experience platforms will close shop with whatever was left on it in the hopes that no one will check their dormant accounts.

Happy for you mate, atleast it allowed you to change the password or maybe you had saved the seed phrase somewhere but unfortunately not the case for my blockchain wallet as seed phrase is lost and it been over 8 years but unable to retrieve my account with some amount of Bitcoin in it.

Just want to give you an advice since you got to know the growth and return on investment through Bitcoin, why don't you start hodling Bitcoin? I mean even I am doing it as i buy in parts whenever I can and down the line this would yield more profit to us.

Anything I would have forgotten or overlooked wouldn't be much. Usually too small to even withdraw, am pretty careful of keeping track of it all so doubt this will happen to me.

A few years ago I deliberately threw away/deleted a huge number if silly alts. Mostly actual qt wallets. I know at least one pumped in the ATH aftermath  of 2018/19. Sadly, no way to recover them as these were all only recoverable with seed phrases or private keys.

I'm over them.

Now if someone left me some Bitcoin posthumously, heh. A fantasy I have had when really, really sleepy.

OHHHH that feeling... That is one of the all time greatest feelings in the world. I havne't felt it recently, and unfortunately when I felt it was much less than what it is today, it was 2018 when I found an account, and the price of bitcoin was 3 thousand dollars, I had not even a full one bitcoin, so the return wasn't that great. I can't help but think what would have happened if I didn't touch it all the way to today and if I cashed out today, I would have solved every single economical problem I have today. Between having sickness and debt all the same time, I think I would have paid it all, and would still have a lot of money left to put aside. Kudos to you mate, it is a great feeling, I wish you get many like that.

I had a similar experience sometime this year. A friend messaged me that he needed a small amount of Tron for gas fee to complete a transaction and wanted to purchase from me. I remember a local exchange I used back in the day, and recommended it to him. I had not used the exchange in a while but knew it was still running because of the ads I keep seeing.  Luckily, the password was saved to my browser and when I opened the wallet and discovered I had a reasonable amount of Ethereum in there. I was so happy and couldn’t believe my eyes. It surprised me that I would have money somewhere and not remember.

Interesting story.... The money you never expected to come back for on the day of the holiday season you'll be smiling from ear to ear when you find this out.  ;D

I completely forgot what I stored altcoins in several sites but I used to record all of them in notepad but because the laptop was broken and left it alone because I thought altcoins were meaningless but now the price has started to be quite high, but I regret having sold the laptop.

My story will not be as interesting as yours, and I have lost everything because I did not save the seed phrase properly, forgot how much the total was but it will not be a regret because it has been forgotten.

I'm not as lucky as you, bro. I have a story like yours but not about BTC assets but about altcoins, more precisely on ETH. I remember at that time eth was still cheap and there was no BNB. At that time, most altcoin transactions still used ETH and the fees were still cheap at that time. I often use transactions using the eth network, I remember very well I used an eth address and I didn't save the private key properly even though there were still eth assets in it, it's just that at that time the price of eth was still cheap, and at that time I didn't get any education about saving private keys is important I underestimate this problem. In the end when ETH rose and reached ATH I couldn't access the wallet anymore, the assets weren't much but it was very painful to remember.

However, from that incident until now, I keep all my private keys or wallet phrases, basically everything related to my wallet I keep carefully. because I don't want to repeat the same mistake I made before, namely not being able to access a wallet that still has assets in it.

This is a remarkable memory, and it's a good one indeed. I have tried to remember a few of my old crypto accounts that I opened over the years when I started the crypto journey, but all led me to a dead end, and the few I tried to gain access to were all with zero balance.

I could remember that my first account back then was with blockchain, if I'm not mistaken, and I used to exchange a few cryptos in that exchange, and I was not certain if I had a few cents left there then or not.

Another bad experience I have that I lost completely was that of one old exchange. I can't even remember the name again, and they have shut down. I have a few dog coins in that wallet, and when I try to access it, the site is already down. To get access back to fund, the kind of questions I was asked were things I could not even remember at all as it has been a long time since I used the exchange.

Congratulations on finding your own funds which you have forgotten It indicates luck works in a way like did you know you should check emails, or check spams, you must have another thing on your mind but there you find this like and found money in that platform too. Luck always work like that, I have observed it few times even experienced it.

But unfortunately, I don't get to have huge money, that I will become that happy on finding, and you did not mentioned the platform neither showed any image proof then how ew can say you r story is legit. Even if you have become legendary member and have spent a lot of time here but it does not mean that you will not fulfill the basic requirements to verify things. Not trying to be rude you are my senior I did respect my seniors.
I have stories but only bad ones, because I rarely remember if I have invested in any token when BTC was at it lowest in my time, like when I joined the crypto market. Even if I have remember, I am not getting any profit because I lack some luck .

I once found 2000+ dollars that I left on an account on Bitstamp and forgot, lol. Now that I think about it, my attention was caught due to an automated E-Mail as well.

So my situation was very similar to yours.

It was money that I left aside for hodling but I hodled it so long that I forgot about it. I think it was below 200 USD when I started off. I must have just forgot about it after a while and stopped using Bitstamp. There is absolutely nothing more to that story. It was all due to my sheer laziness of not writing down where I put my stuff. In this case, my money, but I am pretty sure that I am one of the few people in this world that could lose a car because they forgot where they parked it.  ::) :P

After that I withdraw that fund and then give party with those money to my friends and my family. Also give some money to the poor people of my area.

By the way finding an old wallet and getting the money which we have in that is so amazing.

I had such an experience just few days back, I signed xeggex exchange when the exchange newly launched, I deposited some a very small amount of coins on the exchange and trade for a while there, but later on stopped and abandoned the exchange due to low liquidity and trading volume.

It's been years, I can't really remember the particular year this was, but I know it's been a while really. So just few days ago, I was browsing through a telegram group and saw someone mention the exchange in his comment, I then remembered the I had an account on this exchange a long time ago, and possibly traded there, I decide to check the exchange out, I opened the site and reset my password since I've forgotten the previous one, successfully logged in and discovered I have about $80 worth of coins there, I was really happy since I wasn't expecting anything of such, I quickly placed a withdrawal request which was accepted and processed almost immediately.

Honestly, you lucked out big time in this situation.  I mean realistically, if folks leave their crypto forgot in some online account, they're pretty likely to lose it.  I'd say take em off there quick as you can, from those digital wallets and whatnot, even if we're talking small amounts. Stick 'em in your own personal wallet where you won't lose track.

Nice, usually we've got websites that have deposited our Bitcoins back then or the same goes to the web wallets that we've got.
Try sweeping all of your accounts and maybe some of it still had the loaded bitcoins that you did before.
@OP, that's like a good bonus for you coming this holiday season.  ;D

This happened to me a few months ago, I was going through some of my old wallets as I had forgotten if I had anything there, so I was looking into them just to see if I could find some hidden treasure, and I did, and while not a lot of money, thanks the growth bitcoin has gone through the past years the amount was good enough, now since I had those coins in self-custody I did not saw the need to move them, but if the need arises now I know I have some extra money there I can use when I need it.

This has happened to me, too, although I would need to go through hoops to get the money.

It was for a local exchange that banned my account because I failed to provide proof of funds within their given time period. It was during the time when Bit-X was still around and I was depositing 0.5 btc in a month - obviously a long time ago. I failed to withdraw 0.09 btc in there and kind of forgotten that it existed because back then, 0.03 btc is negligible, and can be had for a week on signature campaigns. Fast forward 6 years, I received an email from that local exchange inviting me to their VIP Program. I logged in, and lo and behold I still have that 0.09 btc in there, although I obviously can't do something about it due to my account being banned.

I asked the support team on what to do in order to get those funds. They said I would need to provide proof of my funds during the period that those bitcoins were deposited. Unfortunately for me, I closed my account on the bank that I used to transfer funds from the exchange, and it will require a lot of back and forth with the bank to just get my statements. That $3400+ is still in there, and I tried contacting the branch of the bank that I created my account with but stated that they will have to raise my case with their HQ as it has been 4+ years since the account was closed, and that records may be kept in a database that cannot be accessed without the help of an attorney.

Hopefully I get to recover that bitcoins, though with the costs entailing the process, I doubt that it will be worth it.

Speaking of past accounts, it's like looking for a gold needle in a haystack and if you're lucky you'll get the gold.
Starting all the crypto work in 2016 there are already many wallet and Exchange addresses that I use.
Almost all exchanges, I have to accept airdrop payments and dozens of Bitcoin and Altcoin addresses.

A few years ago Finding Bitcoin with hundreds of dollars in Bittrex's account (now closed) and the rest of the altcoins airdropped which of course the price is much increased.
And this is not the only one, checking many addresses that I use, found a lot of junk Altcoins that are mostly worthless, But there are some that can still be sold and even that can reach thousands of dollars.

But there is something sad, when knowing that one of the Altcoins that uses QT Wallet is not found the Seed Phrase, namely the Raiblock Project which has now been rebranded into a Nano Coin with a price as high as $27.
https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/nano/

When the price was high, I couldn't find the Seed Phrase wallet, so it was forced to be abandoned and could not be opened and had to lose hundreds of thousands of dollars.

I've used old wallets in the past, as well as joined other affiliate programs in exchange for cryptocurrencies before 2017, but the thing is that I don't really have any particularly nice memory surrounding these old accounts, for the most part, all of them I already forgot the credentials so there's no way for me to actually access them anymore. Another would be the fact that this was basically before I knew the ins and outs of the crypto industry, so oftentimes I found myself falling for blatant scams (cloud mining platforms for that matter) as well as those spam emails you get where they say you won some random amount of bitcoin even though you never even signed in to their site lol.

In any case, it just sets the environment for me, prolly why I became so wary as well over the years of what I click on the internet.

Have you experienced the same thing..... please share your story with us.  ;)

I experienced such a thing in several occasions.  The first one, I am able to retrieve the coins because I was on time retrieving the funds but on one platform, I was devastated because I was late in claiming my funds.  It holds 6 years of daily auto-claim amounts of altcoins, especially Dogecoin.  I tried to contact support but obviously, there is no more reply because the service had been shut down and a month had passed after the deadline of retrieving funds.

One lesson learned here,  always enable notification of our online accounts so that we can react in time if things like this happen.  @OP is lucky to be able to read the notification on time but of course, it is not always like this that we are lucky to read deadlines so a notification about our account activity should always be enabled.

To my surprise, the account was still funded with coins that I deposited almost 5 years ago... and it was worth considerably more now... than what it was worth back then. (I think the Bitcoin price was around $7000+ at the time)
This is a big win. Are the funds inside that platform still worth it today? Maybe you can share some digits  :D
I also experienced this before, on some exchanges but the amount is not really huge, and not too long ago like more than 5 years same with OP.
So if you have fund that you forgot 5 years ago and you believe the value is likely too much high that you didn't expected, then you are lucky.

Well, if this story is true, then you are very lucky. I guess I've heard a lot of stories similar to this, mainly because in the past, bitcoin had its value but not enough for people to take it seriously, so people tend to horde bitcoin but leave it there until they forget the account or the password to the account, and eventually, after some years, they will remember that they have bitcoin that they accumulated in the past. If this story is true, then you are one of the lucky ones that still have access to your sleeping bitcoins. It's good to see such stories, and I envy them as I started late in bitcoin, but what's important is how you will make yourself earn bitcoin nowadays. But if I did invest in bitcoin in the past I don't think I will have this kind of story like in OP, because from hte start I really manage all my access to any of my accounts.

The joy in such forgetting, is in the withdrawal of such funds after letting it mature enough.
It's the best way to DCA and it is sure going to be a profitable assets when withdrawn after a long while.

Everyone should learn to invest in cryptocurrency and forget the asset until a further basis when it is needed and then even when liquidated, it should become a habit to DCA on regular basis.

This is a bit different because it's not forgotten, instead, I lost my private key of MEW due to negligence where I have a decent holding of tokens and ETH few years back (this is during the hype of ICOs IEO). I already lose hope searching and gave up. After moving on (it took months), unexpectedly I found my keys written on a piece of paper with my other important documents. You can imagine how happy I am during that time.

I'm happy for you that you got some money for your holidays. The exchanges aren't safe but I have also experienced a similar thing in 2020 when I found that I had around $90 in my Bitfinex account that I left in 2018, I know that amount isn't high by any means but at least it gave me hope that sometimes our assets can be safe with a few exchanges. I have had a lot of coins on another exchange and when I visited that exchange I found that the exchange was shut down and I have lost all of my coins that I stored on that exchange.

Fortunately, some of my funds were also present on Binance which weren't affected at all. I can say that going with trusted exchanges is still okay but going with new non-trusted exchanges is quite risky and anyone who allows their coins on those new exchanges may end up loosing them if he/she comes after a year or two. I still won't recommend to store our coins on those exchanges as they can go away with our coins anytime and we can't do anything other than regretting.

Good thing that this isn't going to be happening anymore because people that get in bitcoin already knows the worth of bitcoin and the value of hodling so we can be sure to know that it's going to be impossible that people that have an account or online wallet somewhere that has a considerable amount of bitcoin isn't going to be forgetting their log in credentials there anytime soon. No need to be envious of them, we have our own paces in our bitcoin journey and it just so happens that some people have been introduced to bitcoin sooner than the others when it was at a lower price, just think of it this way, that in the near future other people will be envious of you because you've started investing in bitcoin when it was still around 35k.

Well, such occurrences is very common with altcoins, even when mine happened, it was an altcoin that was involve.
One incident I can't ever forget is also one time when i opened xt exchange, and discovered that one altcoin I've been holding since 2017 has been listed there, and was trading above $5 person, and I had about 26,000 of the tokens sitting in one of my wallets.

When I saw, I instantly remembered that I had some of those tokens, I started searching my wallet, reimporting the ones I had previously stopped using, and boom, I managed to get the wallet where I kept the tokens, did the calculation and this tokens were already worth over $125,000, I marvelled and immediately tried to deposit it to xt exchange so I could sell it, but unfortunately, I discovered that xt disabled deposit, I was very disappointed.

As of today, the price of the token have dropped drastically, and xt still have not enabled deposits, and worst is, xt is the only exchange where the token is currently listed.

A very close short at making a huge amount of money.

Going through emails  for forgotten treasures can  be a lot of fun if you find something that has value today. Around 2018 I got the same momentum but the value was not as high. Because the start of any project is not always  profitable so we consider it no longer valuable. However information after information makes us remember things that turn out to be stored  assets that are now of high value.  In fact the crypto project was no longer running but somehow came back to life and  has a price on the market. We actually became true treasure hunters checking every email message that contained keywords.

Glad to hear you found something valuable and useful as some people  who discover  the world of crypto long enough have the potential to have hidden gems. Bitcoin faucets alone weren't  worth much in the past but who would have thought they could be worth so much now.

Have you tried to find any useful information as to why the exchange has disabled the deposit? I had the same scenario the last time I checked my old exchange account and to my surprise, I was able to retrieve one account with an altcoin. But the thing is, the deposit and withdrawal are disabled and then I gathered information to confirm the reason, the coin has no actual value and the price shown on the website is just an error that's why it is disabled. I thought I hit a jackpot during that time. Lol

Now why would I want to lie about something trivial like this?
I don't mean you told lies about it.

Quote
I also had a small amount of Dogecoin on faucet site... but they closed it down. (Freebitco.in also had a dogecoin faucet) ...would be nice if I found that info.... because Dogecoin was shit back in those days. (The whole Elon Musk thing... hyped it a little... but I cannot seem to find anything I kept.. from the account I created for that)  :P
I knew some real stories about that as I shared and personally had painful story with Dogecoin. I held it for like a half of year or longer in the 2019 bear market and lost my patience, so I sold my Dogecoin before Elon Musk pumped it to crazy moon.

I wish I just left it on an exchange and forgot about it to get a fortune but it's already happened and I can not have a time travel to fix it.

How wonderful that things turned out for you! In fact, its like finding treasure in your own backyard. Your experience touches on a strange human trait: the joy of rediscovering. Often, we forget things and are pleasantly surprised when we remember them later. It shows how unpredictable digital investments like Bitcoin can be.

Have I had this happen? Not quite, but I've heard stories like that. Somewhat strangely, it reminds me of how low Bitcoin has been: $4000 or even $400 back then, who knows what tomorrow? Its kind of like a modern-day treasure hunt, these abandoned digital nooks and crannies can sometimes lead to surprising riches. Also, it shows how important it is to keep your digital life clean by regularly checking old accounts and changing passwords. It's amazing what surprises can be found in old letters

Snipped

This is just a simple explanation that you have an exchange account which had some bitcoin left unaware in it for years and you could have access back to the platform and claim your coins, you must be very lucky with this because they have already stated that dormant accounts will be blocked, this is all about you being lucky not to have loose access to your coin and not to have being blocked or the exchange or platform hacked, this is a risk you've taken, this has ever happened to me before.

I know how nice this is because I experienced the same thing when I opened one of my old accounts in some of our local exchanges back then it was just enough amount for one good meal but since the years have passed the price has insanely increased and I was able to buy a new phone because of that. I got it from winning random giveaways from airdrops back then when they were more legit than fakes and I completely forgot it until I checked them without knowing I was one of the winners back then.

Yes something like this have happened to me, but not this year, it was last year, I have used several crypto wallets in the past and there was this wallet that I still keep it's recovery seed, I just decided to import the key into metamask for nothing sake but to my surprise I have some left over BTC on the wallet, the last transaction I made on it was in 2017 bull market, the amount isn't much though but I got $47 BTC that I have long forget about.

I also have some tokens in there but only one out of like 16 altcoins have good value, I remember I used the wallet for Airdrop too, I sold the token since it's already dying, not much volume available and exchange it for BTC, I think the altcoin was worth $15 then I moved them to my latest crypto wallet address.

Congratulations to you OP if this story of yours is true.

Mine was having a shitcoin airdrop way back then, that's why I didn't bother to sell it that time. Way back 2018, its price went up to a decent amount, but it's not that big, I sold it for around $500 worth of Ethereum. I was so happy with that since it was just an airdrop. I don't know how big was your fund collected from your old account or wallet but I'm pretty sure that was a blessing in disguise.

I see people questioning about the genuineness of op story I can't blame their doubts as a lot of stories similar to this sort has been cooked and served on the forum many times but something tells me this is a real one as I have had someone with similar experience in his own case he was so lucky to have the username and password in an old scrap pad (notebook) he lost memory of where he had placed it after some years when he was relocating  as he was packing and disposing off item's he won't be needing anymore he stumbled on the notebook. So things like this happen but in different ways for different people people only that we can't say for sure which is genuine when we read them in the forum.

I never forget about leaving my Bitcoin on the site accounts, I always made a note on several devices. Since Bitcoin is my priority in investment, it is something that I often check regularly. However, it is different with altcoins, I sometimes forget that I have few altcoins in certain wallets or account sites. I ever have the similar story about my altcoins, I already forget the altcoins for few years. Someday, when I checked each of my existing wallets, I found the altcoins valued hundred dollars. I directly sent them to exchanges and converted to USDT. But because of the urgent needs, finally I converted them to fiats and spend all the money. Sure, finding forgotten coins worth hundreds or thousands of dollars is like finding hidden treasure.  ;)

With Bitcoin? No, with Fiat? Yeah...

I have never forgotten my Bitcoin on any centralized platform before, and that is probably because I just joined the Bitcoin space a few years ago when the price was already above $10k, and even after then, I was very concerned and conscious of every dollar I invested in Bitcoin. The only coin I know I forgot in some random exchanges that later crashed was Dogecoin, and I lost the coin due to the crash of that exchange. You are very lucky, @OP, to have gained such a fortune, and that's also because you got into Bitcoin quite on time. This time around, people don't forget their bitcoin anywhere because every little fraction of it is very valuable.

I have done this a couple of times and see penny's that cannot be moved due to transaction fees. It would have been a great motivation if I had seen something substantial and would have been a way of encouraging me to hold for longer period.

It is good that you got well from forgotten account. It is a matter of great luck and fortune that you have earned Bitcoin with good profit and happiness. It also means that we have to keep doing something. Because our work will definitely give us some benefit in the future. That is, life is the name of doing something. Because there is blessing in movement. And work is work and just work. It is actually life. And the cessation of life and stagnation of man is death.
From eternity the horse of life is in motion and its stopping is its death. Fortune is waiting for you to do something.

When I decided to to some "wallet cleaning" I found some ETH wallet that I had completely forgot about it and they still had some 0.1 or 0.2 ETH that I deposited God knows when to cover the eventual transfer fees. All together they were something like 1 ETH which is not like a lot of money but it's still better than nothing of course. There were also some shitcoins worth maybe $100/$200.

It's good if that's the case, and you'll have a pretty happy Christmas in December 2023. Think from 7000 dollars today to around 38 000 dollars more than one bitcoin. You have a 500% profit on the capital you used at that time. Congratulations to you! At least you have something to use during the holiday season.

My experience is that I participated in an ICO campaign, and I didn't know that the address I gave under ERC20 was paid to. When I checked after 2 years after the campaign ended from 2017-2019, the value increased. I was surprised that it was only around 1340 dollars. Of course, I'm very happy about that, so I cashed it in right away to make it real money.
