Title: An empty OP of a pinned thread in Archival?
Post by: hd49728 on December 18, 2023, 02:22:58 AM
In Archival board (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=59.0), I saw a pinned thread with no title, no content (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5435638.msg0#new). I knew the title is "Review кaмпaнии зa Bitcoin" from two replies in that thread, and knew that the content in OP was removed.

But it sucks to see that thread pinned even it an Archival board.

I don't know why that thread was in Archival and why it was pinned but I think the thread must be trashed.

I guess the topic you are talking about is this (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5277049.0) one.

And I agree since this topic is pinned it looks strange/ugly and you can’t even click or open the thread unless you click last post option on the right

To answer why it’s empty with empty title you have to read this

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5468454.0

But why it’s pinned this is a valid question which moderator or admins should answer.

Are you somewhat browsing threads on that board? If it's on archival that means they are supposed to be trashed, deleted, useless, since most test threads are there.

Based on Ninjastic.space it was posted by Ratimov which has changed it's name (idk the reason). Knowing that it came from the same user who was deleting its own threads. What i guess it was pinned on their local boards (since we know how good OP he is back there) then include this thread to move(delete) there while still pinned.

Just by reading the title I knew it was going to be about Ratimov, who by the way has not logged in since a week ago and it seems that he has to pay back some money he received in advance in the last campaign he participated in, and for which he should still be writing.

Yes, OP, read about everything Ratimov has done, of which thread deletion is only a part, and you will be surprised, but you will understand better why is that thread like that in archival.

That thread has no title, you can not click on title to see it like other threads but you can click on New (that appears beside topic title) to see it.

This is actually weird and is a reason I created this topic to ask for unpin that thread.

No issue if it is a trash thread in Archival but a thread with empty OP is pinned is not good visually.

The title of this topic has a normal space, that's why it's not displayed. But you can still open the topic by clicking on the title.

When a sticky topic is moved to another place, it retains its sticky status in the place where it was moved to. This topic was sticky in the Russian section, so when Ratimov moved it, it remained sticky in the new place.

But the topic is not appropriate to be sticked in Archival in the first place. Can a global mod please unstick it?

I believe it might be considered a bug, @theymos :)

In my view, when a sticky topic is transferred from one section to another, its sticky status should not persist.
Ensuring that stickiness is section-specific would enhance the topic movements and flow of topics across the forum. Just a thought!

This is possible if you use Chrome, but when I try to use Mozilla, there's no way to click it. Look to this image, there's no selected part on the subject title. But @OP can click the tiny right icon, it shows the latest reply of the thread.

This is actually not a problem if he was not delete his thread, shame to see why this can happen.

But this is not appropriate as NotATether noted.
If a sticky post is moved from the territory it gained its sticky status, it ought to lose its power of being sticked. A post is pinned in a particular board because of how relevant the post is, in that particular board. A sticked post in trading board will be unsuitable as a sticky post in meta. Maybe it is time for the admin to work on the back end and change the line of code that makes posts sticky even after being moved.

I knew it was Ratimov's thread even before opening and reading the thread. But, Xal0leX already explained why it's still sticky in the archival board. Xal0lex, don't you have access to that board to unstick it? If not, as Notatether already suggested, a Global moderator may want to take a look and unstick it if they want. Even though it does not occurring any problem at this moment, still it does not look good to have a empty sticky thread even in archival section. I am going to report that thread and I hope a Global mod will handle it.

I don't have that authority. It's clear enough, you didn't have to ask. If I had the authority to do so, I would have already unsticked this topic. But this topic is still a stickied. This is the prerogative of global moderators and administrators.

This seems counter productive.

The stickie feature should only be allowed on the board it was stickied in and if moved around it should lose that feature, same way self moderates threads are no longer self moded when they are moved to a board that doesn't support it.

I've been reporting some of these threads to a moderator, but it seems the administration thinks this is ok and still useful for the community. If only the title remained so that it is known what the discussion is about, but it is completely confusing like this and I doubt that it will be useful to anyone in this status, but the moderators know better about it.

If it can be coded, it's better because if a sticky thread is moved from any board to Archival board, practically it no longer has a meaning of a sticky thread. It is no longer important to be pinned.

I don't know it can be considered as a bug.

I appreciated your reports. That OP-emptied sticky thread in Archival was unsticked maybe because of your helpful reports or global moderators, admins see this thread.

I lock this thread now. Thank you all for your inputs and admins or global moderators who handled this.
