Title: copy-paste wallet address to SMS Post by: joe1234 on January 29, 2024, 03:45:59 PM Hello
Is there a possibility to copy/paste the wallet address to the clip-board in order to copy it afterwards to an SMS? (or even better if the SMS app would be started automatically :) I do know that SMS is not really secure, but better than email and i think it will certainly be ok for my needs... Thank you! The only thing that needs to happen is you must have to check the pasted address very to see if it corresponds to the real address. The only security breach is that if you’re having a clipboard malware then there is no difference in weather it is sent through email or an sms text because this clipboard malware will just change the address to that of the scammers. So verify the before sending to the person and also the sender needs to verify the transaction details from his end too before broadcasting a transaction.
So there is no much risk associated with that of address but if it is private key or seed phrase never you send it through any electronic means because even this SMS you think is secure is not, because you never might know why network providers might do with it or hackers that get access to their sever. It can be through message, email, WhatsApp, Telegram et cetera. Just make sure your device is not having clipboard malware.
If someone device is having clipboard malware, the malware is able to change the address that you copy to clipboard on your device to a hackers address, so that the address that you copied is not the address that you will paste and send. If sending bitcoin to someone also, it is good to check and recheck the address before sending, making sure it is your address and not someone else address. But if you must copy and you make use of mobile device (android) most of the carry come keyboard always have a clipboard option which you will just have to update to the latest version and you will be allowed to use the copy and save features which can allow you to copy up to 10 different things and saved on your clipboard for later use, but always proceed with caution in other not to mistake your address to that of others a successful transaction can’t be reverse back. There is nothing wrong in copying your wallet address, and it is safe if your device is free from malware. Manually typing your wallet address is tedious and that will take a lot of time. After copying and pasting your wallet address, you can then double check it to be sure it is actually your address.but always proceed with caution in other not to mistake your address to that of others a successful transaction can’t be reverse back. What you should be concerned about is clipboard malware, this type of malware would change your address to that of an attacker, another thing is dust attack, you may end up copying a scammers address if you get your addresses from your tx history, that is why it is recommended to copy your address from your address' tab or generate a new address. Is there a possibility to copy/paste the wallet address to the clip-board in order to copy it afterwards to an SMS? Both are possible, but the latter depends on your phone's "share" feature.(or even better if the SMS app would be started automatically :) And use the latest version with QML UI to follow these instructions. For copying, it's straightforward, use "Copy" in your invoice: "Receive->Create request->Address->Copy"; or in Addresses list menu: "Click the wallet name->Addresses/Coins->Click an address->Share Icon->Copy" For sharing to SMS app, do the above but you'll have to use the "Share" button instead of Copy, but as I've mentioned, it depends on your phone if it enables your SMS app in the list (scroll-down or side if your SMS app isn't there) But as mentioned by others, there are malwares that can change your clipboard so at least check the first and last 4~8 characters of the copied address. |
