Title: Making informed decisions is our responsibility
Post by: Troytech on February 03, 2024, 07:27:41 PM
One thign I am sure that we cannot neglect as crypto enthusiast is the our need to continually be informed and make good decisions, to be a part of a fast growing and information based space like ours(crypto space) does come with a responsibility that all of us must bear for ourselves and that is to seek knowledge.

As members of this community, relying on our past information would be very shortsighted of us especially when
Scammers are continually looking for new ways to compromise our security and get to us, sudden news can happen that can throw traders off balance or even make us holders to miss out on opportunities to buy cause we were ill informed. Just one wrong move, like clicking on a malicious link or ignoring critical news, can have very negative consequences. Also, the right information can lead to significant gains or safeguard your holdings.

It Is important and for our own good that we dopt a culture of continuous learning and upgrading our selves, by staying informed we would not only protect ourselves, but also increase our chances of success, there are countless reasons why making informed decision is good, but action on this solely is our responsibility and only we can make those decisions for ourselves, yes indeed the community is here to help you, but at times before you know it your already and victim. knowledge is power, and it's up to us to harness it for our benefit.

You make a fair point...  Knowledge is important, but this crypto landscape shifts quicker than a jackrabbit on caffeine and  trying to know it all can have your head spinning in circles.  Rather than aspiring to be a walking textbook, I think you should prioritize cultivating core critical thinking skills. They will serve as your foundation.

Think of it like constructing a house: logical reasoning provides the resilient framework while factoids are the bricks slotted in later.  Sure, scammers are crafty, but sound logic helps sniff out fishiness.  Steer clear of questionable links, vet info thoroughly before acting and be wary of too-good-to-be-true opportunities.  Getting rich quick often leads to losing money quicker.

With sharp critical thinking guiding you, the intricate details of crypto become less urgent.  Absorb knowledge steadily, but dont overwhelm yourself.  Having an inquisitive yet reasonable mindset helps cut through the clutter in this breakneck digital world.

Information in is power just as they say so that fact can't never be neglected. reading of valid articles, books and other readable is very important in ones life not just for those of us in the crypto space.
Long time ago I read about the habits of the rich and I found out that reading is also part of their biggest activities. Another I saw too was the saying that the level of information you have determines the level of your success although it might be wrong from other perspectives but it's all connecting. we got to stay informed in the crypto space and that's why this forum was created to keep the crypto enthusiast informed always.

Mind you the right information is the core objective not just anyhow information.

Cryptos shouldn't be like that. Because it means, people oustide of new technologies shouldn't use cryptos. And they will always stay reserved to a few part of the humanity unlike most progress. This is not acceptable, because it's not the goal of Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. So we should find solutions to allow anybody to use cryptocurrencies without fear, if they need to. Technology must adapt to humans and not the other way around.

We need information because it's the key to knowledge and power, when we are aware about something, we will do as according to how such will help be of a benefit unto us than we see if we are clueless about them, we have to see more information from time to time, this is not a way time request we do, we are expected to always remain being updated because things we knew before could have changed over time.

Knowledge is constantly being refined, new research will reveal that some knowledge we have are becoming obsolete, and there is a need to stay informed. Failure to stay informed puts you at risk of making decisions based on old knowledge and information, and that makes you more prone to making wrong decisions.

This forum helps a bit with providing up to date information, it is now your responsibility to make sure you are a reader.

Then as a forum member, do not only depend on the forum for information, be actively engaged in other channels, podcast, etc that always have new and current information on cryptocurrency and bitcoin, so you are always fresh with knowledge.

Being on the forum puts us at an advantage over other users in the crypto system that aren't here. You get first hand information on the forum that'll help you to make informed decisions. Nothing is left out when discussing on the forum. You get both the pros and cons of any information that you need which will later help you in your decision making. We're in an industry that needs us to be constantly up to date or we'll fall prey to scammers that'll use our ignorance to defraud us.

We're responsible for our finances in this industry so we ought to be informed always on new developments to help protect ourselves from scams. Scammers aren't resting, they're always looking for new ways to defraud their victim so we ought to be alert and use the later security measures to protect ourselves.

What you said is true in one sense—that technology should better adapt to human behavior. However, in the current state of cryptocurrency, I don't think much technology has begun to be built with this in mind. Nevertheless, knowledge will always have a place in society because it is only through learning that we can develop as individuals and take on new responsibilities. As for scammers, we can't hold developers responsible for their inventiveness because, in my opinion, what one man creates, another man can destroy.

A place of Learning must be amongst us as crypto enthusiast, and it has always been that man seek knowledge and new creation and not vice versa.

Yes of course, information is the most important thing in the crypto world, with the wrong information or little knowledge we will fall into the pit of hell, our wallet could be drained, or trading can lose profits. Correct and not misleading information is the key to success in the crypto world.

The bitter reality is that scammers are always one step above us, if we can overcome this scam method, they have other ways to rob us of our money. Having a sense of extraordinary caution is an important asset for us to be in this world.

I really agree with this point, the key is to always upgrade your knowledge about cyber security.

I agree with you, learning is always a good thing, it helps to be happy and to improve yourself. But it shouldn't be mandatory for something people need to use in their daily life. And above all it shouldn't be dangerous for yourself to not knowing it. Or regulators should restrict its use to protect people, sadly. For example, for driving a car you need a licence, because it's dangerous to use a car without knowing how to use it.

Staying informed is no longer sufficient.  Information is everywhere on the Internet.  What matters today is to filter information, but not only that.  You need to be careful as to what information you're even allowing your attention.  The ability to focus your attention is what's valuable.

That is true, as they say, learning is continuous and that makes us being informed not just with the basic information that we need to know but also with the current things that are happening.

For example, in the current crypto cycles and community. We have an idea on where we are right now and this should give each and everyone of us on how to react with the situation.

Because if you're informed and knowledgeable, if a huge correction happens, you'll not panic. And as for the scamming tactics, you're not the ideal target of them.

Lots of shits on the Internet that can end up doing more harm than good, and most of all we can't unlearn some stuff. Better we do some real filter. But we must still find means to get good information for ourselves, else we would still be victims of ignorance.

Relying on the internet for stuff can be risky and dangerous because they can never know if what they are following is right or not, or it can lead them down the wrong path. For example, in crypto currency, there is a lot of information, blogs, and videos on the internet discussing crypo or bitcoin, but people notice that the information they are giving is lacking, and if newbies read or watch it, they might follow it, but the thing is, what they have learned on the internet is not enough. Yes, the internet could help us if we are resourceful, but for content creators or information providers about bitcoin or any cryptocurrency, you should be responsible about what you state in your content because that's what the listeners, watchers, and readers follow. So if you give wrong or lacking information, it may affect them in a bad way, and if those wannabe influencers stop it, you are ruining people's lives.

There is one statement my economic lecturer made one day in class, he said that, "when you are dealing with money and investment, be very vigilant and always keep your self updated with current news related to your investment.„ I don't always let that statement to run off my mind after I joined the crypto industry because I no that I will be needing such statement as a guid too. Before making as decision about investing in crypto, make sure you are not missing any information that will help you. Wrong decision can lead to zero profit and a big loses and there is no investor that doesn't want profit from their investment.

knowledge is the most important thing in this life, without knowledge we cannot protect ourselves from the outside world, every day we continue to see many people being deceived in the internet world and everything happens not only because they do not have adequate knowledge but also because of greed piled up on them.
In the crypto world itself, there are many frauds that occur, such as exchanges that deceive users, tokens or crypto assets that end up with zero value, personal wallets that are stolen and so on, for this reason knowledge is important for anyone, especially those who really have the intention investing in crypto.

There is knowledge that changes little over time. These are exactly the logical things that will always be relevant. There are also laws that will most likely always be relevant. These are well-known laws that make it possible to combat phishing, deception of investors by scammers, or hacking based on software with backdoors.
But of course we must constantly be aware of new technologies. Now, for example, there is a boom in L2 solutions. L-3 solutions are also appearing. New technologies for storing data outside the main distributed network are constantly emerging. The MINA project presented a solution to how we can effectively compress the blockchain. I expect that many of these innovations will migrate to Bitcoin over time. I also follow the development of Taproot technology.

You are over estimating scammers. They are scammers and can use many tools to scam people who don't have knowledge, experience or just to naive. However scammers use same strategies from time to time and they only use different tools to execute similar scam strategies.

Like Ponzi existed many decades ago and now scammers use cryptocurrencies as one of tools to run their Ponzi.

Security, privacy, scam, if you are careful, are not greedy, you will not be scammed. If you are careless, greedy, any advice is non sense for you.

I think it should be like that, informed decision means that you've weighed out all the possibilities out there and that you already got what you need to enable a smart exploration into something, these people that you call outsiders that are reserved aren't really reserved if they're informed at how to approach crypto and if they're not then they're more like xenophobic meaning that they fear the unknown and don't like the idea that they're going to be experiencing something new, as much as there's risk in knowing about crypto, sometimes the evidences provided and the information that you've taken should be enough to make you go in anyway. A lot of the safe cryptocurrencies out there already have a pretty simple design and UI/UX so I don't see how finding a more easier way would make things go smoothly for these people that fears to get into crypto, I don't think that the ease of use is the issue with these types of people.

I think making informed decisions is the need of the hour. The World is rapidly changing, and with every passing second, new information is being added to the internet/ repository. Crypto users, as well as other investors, need to get in touch with the latest available information. With information comes knowledge and wisdom. Making informed decisions will help you reduce the risk of losing money and increase your chances of earning a good profit. For example, If you have information about an upcoming crypto project and know that a related technology is already in use. You should not invest your money into that project because, in the end, the project won't work, and investors will lose their money.

Though we wanted no one will fall into scam projects or be involved in such activities but sad to say that we can't make decisions on behalf of others. Too hard to influence someone if they also have different views and investment opinions.

That is why if we are looking for information, we have to be very careful and not be easily tempted by attractive offers. We must compare the data from one site to another to know more. Besides that, we also know which one we should choose to avoid cases of scams.

We can only advise people who want information to be more careful. That's because, today, many scams are carried out by irresponsible people. That's why they can make comparisons if they can get more information.

After all, if someone wanted to find the information they wanted, they needed to look for it themselves and not rely on others. They can find a lot of information they need, especially if they are familiar with the internet. By searching, their knowledge will increase and that will help them to find what they are looking for.

If you don't adapt, then you'll be left behind

Not only in crypto but in anything, people need to make informed decisions. That's how everything is, so why should crypto be different? If you don't make informed decisions in your business you lose, and so is in your career and education too.

I agree with what @stalker said, you don't need to be a genius or have all the knowledge in the world about crypto, but you have to be able to think critically. When you're able to think critically you'll be able to know what is a scam or what's legit. Thinking critically is what would help us make informed decisions.

As Bitcoin and the market grow, there are more and more scammers, unethical and irresponsible people. Personally, I will not trust any opinion or anyone online but will read, learn, and feel in a way that my responsibility allows me to trust. The money is yours, the investment decision is yours, you should not become a puppet or a puppet for yourself. All suggestions are displayed, but it's up to each person to decide. Some people find it difficult to refuse invitations from famous people to participate. It is unlikely that they will keep the final decision as their own. It is a risk that many people should consider. . Sure, keep the decision with your responsibility. Whether it's right or wrong is still your choice.

He probably refer to us, individually. It is really our responsibility to be updated with things given that the market itself is volatile in nature. Things are changing easily and that's how demand is highly affected by many factors. News play a huge role with every changes on the price of Bitcoin and other cryptos. Buy the rumor and sell the news as most of us are saying. Actually, I was a believer of things will always repeat itself however as we are seeing changes over years with what we so called "patterns", no consistency is there and that is an enoigh reason for us to be mindful of everything that is related to it. We invested to gain profit and it is our sole responsibility to be in full watch of anything that could affect the market in general. Decisions on the other hand should always have a substance or reason and not solely due to our emotions.

Just one wrong move, like clicking on a malicious link or ignoring critical news, can have very negative consequences.
I like the way you saliently identified that clicking on links erroneously could jeopardize our wallet safety. Consequently, scammers will continue to get people through that means because of greed. How do we justify someone clicking on a link where they've been promised to claim something they never applied for or bought? Even if it's an airdrop, at least the claimer applied for it in the first place or used a service affiliated to the project distributing the airdrop. Greed is a killer. If anyone can steer clear of it in this space it would be difficult for them to get hacked or scammed.

Quote
Also, the right information can lead to significant gains or safeguard your holdings.
...it can also lead to losses. We shouldn't forget that. Everything about right information isn't right all the time, paradoxically writing. At one time, I was an early investor with a project whose developer meant well for the project and the community he had. Sadly, things didn't go the way he had planned. The token later flopped after several months of the dev trying to steady it. That was the end of it. Many people accused the dev of abandoning the project but that was never his intention. The same thing goes with many other projects. Those who got information (good one at that) of how good and great that project was going to be must've lost out too on their investment.

Knowledge truly is power, and in the ever-evolving world of crypto, staying informed is more crucial than ever. But simply consuming information isn't enough. It's about seeking the right knowledge, the insightful gems that illuminate your path, not just filling your head with any shiny object.

Sure, a flickering candle helps, but a powerful headlamp reveals the hidden dangers and treasures alike. Discerning the right information is your headlamp, guiding you through the complexities of the crypto landscape.

Reading habits of successful individuals paint a clear picture. They devour books, articles, and engage in meaningful conversations, constantly expanding their knowledge base and perspectives. It's not just about accumulating facts, but about developing critical thinking skills to analyze, question, and form informed opinions.

Knowledge truly is power, and in the ever-evolving world of crypto, staying informed is more crucial than ever. But simply consuming information isn't enough. It's about seeking the right knowledge, the insightful gems that illuminate your path, not just filling your head with any shiny object.

Information is already there and so many scam stories we heard but many people still get scams. It is a question of why it is still an existing problem despite that we already know the usual trick of these scammers and it only appears in my mind that advice is useless if nobody is listening. Scams will continue to spread because people are still believing these colorful words and tempting rewards even though it is very clear that was a big lie and scam.

That is why I hate those people who say crypto is a scam and blame which in fact, they are the problem. Because if they only know how to listen and follow advice, they won't fall into scams for sure.

Knowledge plays a crucial role in our lives as it helps us make informed decisions, solve problems, and understand the world around us. It can also help us develop new skills and pursue our interests and passions. Without knowledge, we would be unable to navigate the complexities of modern society and would be unable to make informed decisions about our lives.
It is difficult to imagine living without knowledge, as it is such an integral part of our daily lives. However, it is possible to survive without a lot of knowledge, especially if you are able to rely on others to provide the necessary information and guidance. But living without knowledge can also lead to a limited and potentially unhappy life, as it can prevent us from fully understanding and engaging with the world around us.

I really agree with what you say, for now it would be better for us to decide for ourselves what we are going to do and we don't have to follow what other people do and learning for ourselves what we want to do would certainly be better, because we will can know the advantages and disadvantages of what we have learned.

Those who accept people's invitations to participate without studying first will find it very difficult to survive because they will suffer losses from what they do so they leave and don't study again.

Making informed decisions would even be more important now with more news of the bull run emerging, and we know that a lot of persons are interested in bitcoin even scammers and those who want to use this opportunity to give stupid speculations to decive the public, everyone should make quality decision regarding to the kind of links they click, the kind of persons that take advice from and all that and most of all our security is our full responsibility and if we lose our bitcoin we are to blame and noone else. Let's priotise making informed decisions, cause it the only thing that can safe us in this fast growing space.

Yea, but the problem is that most people are too busy watching movies and series on the Internet or stuck in their phones with social media... to care about proper research on topics like crypto currencies.

You can only make informed decisions, if you do proper research on a specific subject... and to do that takes time.... lots of it. I made loads of mistakes when I started out with Bitcoin, but I experimented and I read a lot about it, now I feel confident that I can spot scams and also secure most of my stash.  ;)

Every decision we take is based on careful consideration and basically we know why the decision was taken even though there are risks involved. Likewise, people are starting to invest in crypto, especially bitcoin because people believe that currently the best opportunity we have is only involved in investing in bitcoin. Many victims have been trapped by investments, but what they regret is that they did not make an analysis when they wanted to be seen in it, so the decisions were taken based on large returns and without realizing they had been trapped in fraudulent investments.

The bitcointalk community has given me knowledge and if we want to get involved in investing we don't need third party help because we can actually do it ourselves. Likewise, vice versa with trading and people don't need to place money with other people because if they want to learn then trading can be done independently. There are many conveniences that can be done independently as long as we want to learn, the question is why should we trust other people too much if we can do it ourselves.

With level of exposure in our age and stories of what had happen in the past and still happening, I think anyone that is scammed in this present era has some form of greed for money . Imagine buying a crypto that worth just a dollar at 5cent even when you can see it everywhere that , this is 1dollar worth.
If a person sees an offer of crypto whose worth is up to 100 dollars and the buyer wants to pay 500 dollar without using exchange p2p platform, such a seller is also greed.

A person who sees a link leading a claim of money not worked for is also greed.

Falling for scammers begins from greed covetousness

They are not greedy but less fortunate because how these people believe in something unreal. It was hard to buy promises that were impossible to happen, I should have declined it. But what mostly happens is that the majority had thing impossible offers become possible, they remain uninformed despite the fact that many people already describe what a scam looks like.

Quote
A person who sees a link leading a claim of money not worked for is also greed.

A very common thing happens is we experience of getting scams first before we realize that we are a fool in believing their sweet promises.
We just suffer losses first before we know how to research.

For sure, I get your point here and that is also what I tell on the local board for new traders, Bitcoin and cryptocurrency surely have a lot of scammers, hackers, etc. that are going to do anything just to get our funds on our wallet. We already know that technology continues to grow over time and that just means that we need to keep on learning as well to keep up with the technology, that just means that hackers and bad guys use new methods as well in order to hack or scam people were we need to learn as well in order to prevent it from happening. It's a good thing that we have this forum since we share a lot of information including methods of how the scammers scam people as well, if we are aware of how they do it it would be difficult for them to scam us, or probably they will not be able to do it. Still, we need to be careful all of the time because there are new ways that they might do what we doesnt know yet.

I mean they probably not going to stop since for sure they are earning a huge amount scamming people what we can only do is protect ourselves if we all know how we are going to protect ourselves there are no people that are going to get hacked or scam, and these bad people are not going to get anything from us.

Making the right decisions has long been important for everyone who works everywhere and that doesn't just apply now. But from previous years it has also had to be made by each person who does not want to become a victim of fraudsters in various cases. Because nowadays there are many people who still continue to take advantage of any conditions and opportunities to make other people fall asleep with suggestions that sound reasonable, even though they are still not necessarily good.

So making the right decision for whatever it is through ourselves should have been done by ourselves a long time ago without having to immediately believe what other people say. Because it could be that advice given by other people we don't know can be a sadistic trap that some people don't immediately realize. So apart from the importance of making the right decisions, there must also be caution in trusting new people around us because that is also an important part that we must remember individually.

Being informed and making informed decisions is a good idea not only in crypto space, but in general in life. The same goes for lifelong learning and actively seeking knowledge.
Relying on information about the past is important, though, as that's how we usually learn about types of scams and can try to find general patterns to resist scammers of the future.
To navigate tons of information, we also need strong analytic reasoning and other skills to make sure that we know how to find and assess information.

in today's digital age, you are being exposed to a lot of online resources and it is up to you now how you filter such information for your own consumption. scammers or fraudsters are in different forms and can exist in various faces. as you traverse this life, you will learn a lot on how you can prevent yourself from being a victim of online fraud. one look and you already know the potential threat.

these are just few pointers to always remember when you are navigating over the net or any social media channels -
> don't click unknown links as it is likely a phishing link
> ignore unsolicited offers or PMs
> don't be tempted with mouth-watering rewards or promos
> don't enter personal details to unfamiliar sites
> limit the exposure of yourself to social media
> don't disclose any financial dealings or crypto-related transactions

OP, this community will only help when you are ready to learn, yea scam is every where but I believe people are only scammed when they are interested in the project that the scammer presented, many threads here has helped many of us to avert being scammed, as a bitcoiner, knowledge is a continuous thing and if you refuse to learn the reverse will be the case, people will learn from your mistake and it's bad when this happens, the problem here is that most of us are going hyper instead of learning from the foundation, though the forum knowledge is not enough to guard us, personal research won't be a bad idea, sometimes most think that we know too much why we don't know nothing, for us to know anything we must ask question so that it won't turn to be a disaster at the end.

There are things that I learnt in this community ordinarily I wouldn't have get in touch with such knowledge, though I learnt those stuff by reading through must of out senior men threads and post respectively, I must confess those piece of writing has been helpful to me, I have to state categorical that for one to be a successful bitcoiner he should be ready to make himself available for informations concerning bitcoin and utilize them for good results.

Before deciding on something, we really need knowledge about the thing we are going to decide on and it would be better if we first examine the decision we have made, whether it is appropriate for us to apply it to the thing we are going to decide on or not, because without good knowledge In the field that we are going to decide on, it is very unlikely that we will be able to decide on this matter well.

If we use past information as a comparison for the decisions we will take, of course this is very good because we can find out whether we can actually use the decisions we make or not, because with this past information it will make it easier for us to decide things. which we will decide well.

"Whatever you do in this life, you always need to get information, make the right decisions and learn" (Captain Obvious).

Yeah it's very a obvious fact that we need to still talk about cause when you leave the community and go out there and see the kind of mistakes that people make and how they fall into scams and all kind of very obvious traps you would begin to wonder if people are still this dumb, right now I can say even a 10 year old with access to a verified exchange like Binance can start buying bitcoin and he would know so little about security or even the importance of having a cold wallet to store his crypto, most people would never understand the technical part of bitcoin or it's developed, I've tried telling people what prove of work is all about in bitcoin and you would see the look on their faces, even more discouraged, but it's far easier to teach them to buy and to save their crypto and the right way to invest, theses are the kind of things we teach to newbies cause I think it's even far more important to them as new comers than explaining all the big facts to them, just try explaining UTXOs to a newbie and see what I'm talking about.

So I think making post like this is good even if these are obvious facts to you there is someone here that needs them and would be of much help to them, I only wished the OP hD given some good sources of good information for newbies to back up the topic, and even so I still think the topic to be a good one.

I guess if OP had put it this way, that expecting past experience to happen in exact same way would be short-sighted and I think he is right cause scammers continue to improve them selves, I know dusting has not been a new strategy to them but I'm just learning about it, and before we would think that reading white papers was a way to detect fraud project but now they are all getting better and probably higher a professional to build the road map and also the business structure and whitepaper.

Using old experience or knowledge is good to help us detect some flaws but it term of making decisions I think we have to be more current in such areas.

More important than being very informed, is being very critical about the information that you receive/gain. It's one thing to be a wet sponge for all the information on the planet that you could acquire. It's another to be very smart about choosing which information to retain and which not to. But how would you do it specifically? Well, you first have to have the innate ability to be utterly skeptical about information you deem suspicious, and even if it doesn't give you the heebie-jeebies, I suggest you still go the extra mile and be very critical about the information in question. You also have to compare and contrast information against different sources, and with that being said receive information not only from a single source to make sure you're not forming biases and creating your opinions and decisions around them.

It's your responsibility to always be on top of what's happening in the crypto scene, but the sense of community that we have in this industry induces people into sharing their best practices and information towards each other. Being very critical and skeptcial about the information that you receive will ensure that you stay well-informed, and you keep misinformation at bay for you and the people you'd share these valuable information with.

Information indeed keeps evolving and one needs to stay updated to have a better understanding of each situation they might face. However, what @Stalker22 said is correct that if one has critical thinking skills and a general understanding of what's happening and if they are always sound about their surroundings and always have a good presence of mind, they can barely get scammed no matter what tactics the scammers try on them.

People that get scammed are often those who are not mentally present when they face such a situation, which is the reason why they do anything a scammer asks them to do instead of thinking why they are getting an offer that is too good to be true from a complete stranger who would get nothing if they benefit?

Those who lack understanding about investing or trading will certainly be very easily deceived because they never realize that they have been deceived by what they feel is very good for the investment or trading they do, but for those who already have a good understanding of investing or in trading, of course they will think according to the abilities they have and if they feel that it will be detrimental to them, they will of course avoid it, so it is very important for us in deciding something, whether in trading or investing, we must decide based on the knowledge we have because if we just following what is there and not having an understanding of this, of course we will experience losses from the decisions we have made.

Ignorance can really be more risky than people think, lack of information can lead to making bad decisions, In the crypto space news of scam never fade away as scammera always target new and ignorant persons, you would see people lose their holdings to phishing links and even simple scam format like taking advantage of their greed to get them to invest in fraudulent websites that offers outrageous profits.

People also make bad decisions in terms how they store their holdings, people still keep their bitcoin in online exchange instead of holding it in cold wallets.
