This seems like a perfect thread in the goods section and specifically collectibles 😐

With that being said if we are talking collectables:

1) bit bills starting the genre
2) casascius perfecting the genre
3) killyou fine tuning the genre

Those 3 seem pretty solid.

1 - when I started mining in 2010
2 - when I quit in 2011
3 - when I came back to mining in 2017

Yes, these are 'MY' top events as they most directly affect me in this space.  :D

If it's not too late, I wanted to share my top 3:

Casascius Coins - I remember seeing these in 2012, as I was a total silver bug.  I remember seeing them on eBay for $80.  I did the math and thought, $80 for $30 in silver and $10 in Bitcoin, not worth it and bought 2 rolls of American Eagles instead.   Biggest regret of my life.... lol

August 2017 BTC Fork - This taught me a lot about wallets, as copying your wallet to get access to the Bitcoin Cash and then to sell the Bitcoin Cash for more BTC, that was so awesome.  I honestly forget, but I believe that got me at least 20% more BTC!

March 2017 - Bitcoin overtakes gold in value!   This was a big one for me, as I came from the gold and silver world.   To me BTC being worth more than gold solidified it's existence and people started to take it a lot more seriously.

1. Genesis Block - Satoshi started a fire in cyberspace as Michael Saylor says

2. 2016/2017 Big Block Wars - Showed that Bitcoin was truly decentralized and the protocol could not be easily changed. People were willing to defend the network.

3.  Number three is a tie between 3 events: Microstrategy being the first publicly traded company to adopt Bitcoin as a treasury reserve asset, El Salvador being the first country to adopt Bitcoin as a treasury reserve asset, and the approval of the Bitcoin ETFs.

It's quite hard to pick the top three, so I'd just list the first three that come into my mind [in no particular order]:

  • First BTCitcoin exchange (New Liberty Standard) that came up with a formula to calculate the value of Bitcoin [archived version (http://web.archive.org/web/20091229132610/http://newlibertystandard.wetpaint.com/page/Exchange%2BRate)]
  • BTCitcoin Pizza Day [source (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=137.msg1195#msg1195)]
  • BTCitcoin becoming a legal tender in El Salvador [source (https://twitter.com/nayibbukele/status/1402507224916836352)]

Silk Road closing - Bitcoin became popular due to an article that was released in the summer of 2011 about Silk Road. When it was closed, Bitcoin had to stand on its own for the first time. It was no longer just a darknet coin.

mtgox closing - This was the first major event for Bitcoin. One so big at the time, we’re still awaiting resolution a decade later.

FTX bankruptcy - FTX was the biggest fraud in Bitcoin’s history. It single-handedly kept a lid on the top of Bitcoin’s price and pumped alts to the moon, making some people crazy rich while others lost what they thought they had. We are still recovering from this and it remains to be seen if the manipulative effects on altcoin valuations remain lasting.

A runner up event might be pirateat40 who ran a Ponzi scheme so large, it once made up a huge chunk of available BTC. His arrest was one of the first in this community and a signal we were moving away from the Wild West.

Can you give us a quick history lesson on killyou?  Sounds like it may be before my time on the forum but I am intrigued nonetheless.

Absolute legend.  I have a silver prototype don't think many exist.  It's not readily available so it might take some time to dig out.

Besides that, when he was first here, he had some girlfriend sharing his account or something. it was quite odd. Then he just got stranger and stranger, until...

TMAN comes along... And then KY was homeless... So somewhere out here is a thread/pics of him doing odd things TMAN paid him to do... Like grab a pink Flamingo off a lawn... Hang out with some homeless dudes...

And oh yeah, his coins... OMG, the first ones wheelz mentioned were surely something else at the time.  ::)

ICYMI - FFrankie used to be Killyou72. His alt was killyou73, but not sure if it still in use.

My top three collectable events in my history as follows...

1 Came across Casascius in 2013
2 Came across Bitbills in 2017 after being away for years...yep they were the first and my hunt for them began once I realized this
3 Making my very first physical crypto item in the form of a postage stamp and mailing it in 2017. After that I started Cypher Hodl and the rest is history so to speak for me. Also discovering so many other collectables thru the years and meeting fantastic like minded individuals online and in person!

   As far as Bitcoin goes....

  1) Reading about Bitcoin in 2013
  2) Satoshi identity an unkown.
  3) Bitcoin White paper where it all started!

There are so many events to choose from which are important but for me and as
others have posted here are my 3 in order of date

January 3rd 2009 - Genesis Block

May 22nd 2010 - Pizza Day - This was the first commercial transaction using Bitcoin when Laszlo
Hanyecz paid 10,000 bitcoins for two pizzas.

September 7th 2021 - El Salvador Bitcoin Day - 'First Country' to recognise Bitcoin as
legal tender just the same as their US Dollar.

3 events?
well it's kind of impossible there are many more "top" events ::) of course I avoided to get "inspired" by other posts :P

[ 0) genesis block this is a MUST at least on my opinion we cannot not list here]
1) first exchange of btc for FIAT (late 2009 here on btc talk - 5000 btc for 5 USD)
2) CBOE of chicago listing the first BTC future (2017)

I have some doubts for the "third event"...
3) btc cash fork? or maybe Satoshi leave the forum? G. Andresen audited by CIA?

He's still around,  No crazy ole lady's as far as I know now days. ;)

FFrankie was one of my first friends on the forums.

He gave me my first collectible pieces here. He supports small projects.

I'm very happy to see he's impacted more than just me.

It’s hard for me to give a top moment in my history or the history in the general but I think that all the times we have come together to make other people happy and help other people are all great. there are so many selfless actions done by some many members of this community.

For me personally I have 3 time periods that were of major significance to me.

1. The time I was introduced to this in NY in 2009 but never followed up on looking it up

2. The time my friend included me in a Facebook group chat with 40 others in 2014 urging us to look into Bitcoin. Still I didn't.

3. The time I could literally hear a pin drop in a large and occupoed cubicle office and then I suddenly get up and ask the question about Bitcoin and everyone shot up in excitement! It was then I realized Bitcoins importance and I began looking into it.

Really the most important date though is the time that I met with a former client, I'll look up that post it's wild
