Title: Books for Bitcoin
Post by: bookbits on February 23, 2024, 02:57:37 AM
After all these years of waffling and ignoring, I now seek to become a part of the wave that is bitcoin. However, rather than merely buy bitcoin on an exchange and speculate the days away, I want to actually use bitcoin for some purpose or endeavor, and a few hours ago I realized how I could do this. I occasionally sell books online anyways, and offer anybody the opportunity to purchase books from me using bitcoin as the medium of exchange. If you are interested then send me an email - bookbits@protonmail.com - and I will send you a link to my ebay account. Furthermore, I happen to work at quite a large used book store in New England, and so if you want me to hunt down a particular book for you I can do my best. If you need pictures of the books I will be happy to provide them. I am new to bitcoin, and I want to get involved, and so I apologize in advance for any problems that may arise from my ineptitude regarding computers in general, and bitcoin specifically. Hope this is the right place to post this.

You duplicated this thread in another board (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5486165.msg63706073#msg63706073). That violates rule 12 which only allows you to duplicate translated versions of a thread to the local boards, or marketplace topics to the altcoin boards (if altcoins are accepted).

Beyond that, great job actually putting Bitcoin to use and if you encounter any challenges along the way, feel free to ask here for assistance.

Do you have a license or proof that you purchased the books legally and want to sell them, or are you acting as a middleman for that very large used book store in New England?

If you do not have the technical experience to create a website, then create a Telegram channel and put the names and pictures of the available books and all the necessary legal information in it, as it will be easier than corresponding with you via email.

Sorry about the duplication, I realized shortly after this post that it fit better in the marketplace topics. As for the selling, I am not acting as a middleman, but I collect books and every so often decide I don't actually want or need them, and thus sell them on ebay. I suppose I never thought about proving that I am not selling them as stolen, as there are so many millions of people selling things on ebay with no proof - but for the record, I am not selling them illegally, and I have purchased them all. I do not do this as a job, but more as a hobby, a few sales a month type of thing. But I will check out Telegram, thank you. I thought Telegram was merely a messaging app, didn't realize one could create "channels" there.

and I will send you a link to my ebay account.
You can include the link to your eBay account without having to worry it'd violate the rules on this forum [ref links aren't allowed].
- Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=703657.0)

Furthermore, I happen to work at quite a large used book store in New England, and so if you want me to hunt down a particular book for you I can do my best.
If you can do the same for rare newspapers and magazines [I do know some bookstores do], you'd probably find a good amount of customers on a certain part of this forum...

  • I realized shortly after this post that it fit better in the marketplace topics.
IMO, it's better suited for the "Collectibles (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=217.0)" sub-board [move topic button is in the bottom left corner of the page].

BTW, welcome to the community :)

Thanks for the welcome! Unfortunately we do not deal in magazines or newspapers, although I will keep an eye out at the many antique stores I peruse. Also, I will check out the collectibles board, thanks.

Why don't you send the link for your ebay account listing so everyone knows what you are selling ? Also, if there is already a good sale for your books, then there must be some positive feedback showing the creditability of these books. Also, i would like to know if you are the author of those books  ::)

You haven't mentioned the prices as well. My suggestion is that you can give one or two free vouch copies to anyone who is interested and in this way give a feedback about the book.

Does your book store have a website for us to search books? Do you resell books? Do you sell second-hand only? Do you sell academic books? I'd be great if we had the option to purchase ourselves books using Bitcoin. At the moment, there is no reputable book seller that I'm aware of. Only Amazon via gift cards, but this is too limiting and expensive.

I'm glad you got into Bitcoin, and welcome to Bitcointalk!  :)

It's a service I'm happy to discover, as finding books in English is difficult in my country, and amazon doesn't deliver here either.

Can you ship anywhere in the EU?

I love anything that has to do with books, I acctually think I am addicted to the smell of a new book. Yes, I know you are selling old and used books, but I also love that.

Unfortunately times are changing and everything are going digital now, with eBooks changing the way we read now. So, I applaud you for trying to revive the old way of doing things.

One advantage of physical books over digital books... your real book has no battery that can go flat, whilst you are reading on your Kindle.  ;D

Kindle is way more cheaper though, truth be told. You can have hundreds of books, way cheaper. However, as a physical book addict, I agree that the aesthetics of a good book are priceless!

Does your book store have a website for us to search books?

The store I work at is very old school, the man who owns it has no interest in the internet or in doing business on the internet. So there is no catalogue of what we have, unfortunately, partly because there are so many titles that it would be a massive endeavour to keep track of it all. Some of the books I buy there for my own collection and decide I no longer want them. No academic stuff in terms of textbooks, although there are many university press books coming through all the time.
